The chicken is what we initially came for, and it did not disappoint! It was packed with flavor and super juicy - such a delight. Also got the veal, which came with a bunch of chips and an egg on top. Also good, but does not compare to the chicken. The place itself is very easy going and laid back, but the service is impeccable. Would definitely recommend making this a stop on your trip!!

Google
First, I ordered grilled sea bass. Unfortunately, the fish did not satisfy with its size. It wasn't very fresh, and I didn't like the taste. I didn't like the cabbage and potato either. Then, I ordered "grilled octopus" from the menu. There's a translation problem, because the octopus that arrived wasn't "grilled", it was cooked in tempura-style. The taste was quite good, but the menu should say "tempura style" instead of "grilled." The atmosphere is cozy in the entrance floor. The second floor is more like a restaurant. The staff is very polite.

<€15pp - INSANE VALUE FOR MONEY Super traditional chicken restaurant, the grilled chicken was really delicious- super tender, but on the salty side. Recommend 1/2 dose typically for one person. Other than chicken, we also had the octopus rice which I highly recommend - such a comfort dish and very generous octopus portions. 1/2 dose is already A LOT of rice. Service is a little slow / disorganised/ sassy - we got asked to wait by the stairs even though half of the restaurant was empty, the way seating / serving is done is generally quite confusing. The waiter also got multiple parts of our order wrong (vegetables never arrived, 1/2 chicken became 1 chicken). But overall they are friendly and it is definitely worth coming

Google
This is a must go, clearly locals favorite. Everything about this place is pure perfection. The food is simple and amazing, the prices are low, the waiters were wonderful. We had a lovely bottle of a local sparkling wine by the same name of the restaurant for under 9 euros. We went with 4 people, had chicken, grilled sea bass, 2 veal dishes, an incredible lemon pie, bottle of wine, beer, and 4 glasses of a 10 year port for 80 euros.

Google
This was honestly the best chicken we’ve ever had. It was tender, juicy, and packed with flavor. The value is unbeatable too. You get a huge portion that leaves you full and satisfied. The chili oil and piri-piri sauce were incredible. If you're hungry, get the full dose. If you don’t eat a lot, go for the half. A full dose can easily be shared between two people, but we ordered a full dose with fries and a half dose of chicken only, and it was the perfect amount for me and my wife. I don’t usually like fries or potatoes, but I finished them fast. We ate here twice during our second trip to Porto and will definitely come back. Service was solid, and the wall covered in coins from around the world was a fun touch. Also great that it’s right across the street from Conga, home of the best bifanas.

Google
We came to try the Franho (BBQ chicken) and also we tried the Leitjo. In general it was a tasty chicken, flavoured with a bit of a more salty than usual so you need to eat it with the fries or any other items. The quantity was good with big portions. The chicken was tender.

Google
My first big dinner in Porto — and definitely not the last! The place was packed with locals, which was a great sign, and even though we had to wait around 10 minutes during the dinner rush, it was so worth it. The grilled chicken was absolutely delicious — juicy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. I still can’t believe how affordable it was for the quality we got. The staff were also incredibly kind and welcoming. Such a great experience overall. Highly recommend!

Google
Came to the famous chicken street to enjoy Portuguese piri piri chicken. Surprisingly the tripe stew and the green soup were really delicious, even more so than the chicken which was a bit dried. Great service by the gentleman. Can recommend.

Yelp
Yesterday, we had lunch upstairs on the second floor. It was a lovely, smoke-free meal, with delicious food & friendly l, professional service. Today, my DS wanted piri piri again ... so we stopped for lunch; however, this time we got take out and brought it back to the hotel. Talk about an awesome deal for 10.5€ (includes fries but substituted for rice). The chicken is finger licking addictive, but I gotta give credit to that crazy good rice. It's like 85% fluffy, 15% crunchy, and pairs oh so well w the chicken, esp w a generous amt of piri piri sauce, which brings everything together. Something tells me there's a good chance we might be back for round 3!!!

Yelp
When looking to grab some food in Porto, there was one restaurant which seemed to come up in almost every search and was even recommended to me by the staff at my hotel - Pedro dos Frangos. As of December 2024, it is also the third most reviewed business in Porto on Yelp, so I had to check what all the fuss was about and I was pleased with my experience. While the restaurant might not look like much from the outside, even the interior looks a little lacklustre and unimpressive, they certainly made up for it with the food. I was disappointed with the service, though I don't want to be too harsh as there was a language barrier. I could tell my server was trying his best despite his limited English (and my limited Portuguese). However, I did face challenges in obtaining allergen information. Even after showing him a translation card, he was unaware and had to seek help from another staff member. Since he ultimately took my order, it didn't give me much confidence that cross-contamination would be avoided. I decided to order a large plate of food to share with my guests. The food was incredibly affordable, costing just over 20 euros, even with a bottle of water and a soda. It was a great option for a table of two ordering together to share the chicken with fries and salad. The chicken was undoubtedly the highlight of the meal, with the peri-peri sauce on the side, the chicken was so juicy and flavoursome, even the skin was crispy. The salad was fresh, and I liked everything apart from the carrots, which were a little hard and chopped too finely for my liking. The fries were fine but were more of a fast-food fry; they weren't hot either, but the chicken was and that was the main thing. 4* - I would certainly visit here again as the chicken was delicious, and it was one of the best meals I had during my time in Porto, and certainly the best value for money.

Yelp
Was disappointed with our experience, after this place came highly recommended from our Airbnb host and seemingly everyone online. We were sat right away but our server walked by us several times after but didn't take our order for what felt like a solid 20 minutes after we'd been seated. We got the half portion of chicken and fries, and the octopus salad. The octopus salad did not taste fresh, and the chicken was okay but just very average and dry. We had eaten at Bonjardim in Lisbon earlier that week, where the chicken was very juicy and flavorful, so this felt very mediocre in comparison. Fries were just okay too. Not sure if we caught them on an off day but can't recommend

Yelp
Great food and service. Homemade meal. Riquísimo. Big plates so you are likely to have leftovers. Quick and affordable.

Yelp
In my opinion, this restaurant was ok. First of all, most of the staff can hardly speak English. Our waitress, however, spoke very good English and was always smiling and very hospitable. The older gentlemen kept joking with each other. We come into the restaurant and were told to go upstairs to the second floor (they have a third floor as well). We waited to be seated. The place smelled of oil and grease, and it was hot and humid in there, no ventilation. Minus one star. We didn't ask for bread but they brought out a basket and asked if we wanted some. We said ok. It cost .60 Euros. brought out bread. We each ordered 1/2 serving calamari platter with rice and salad and 1/2 serving of white cod fish with salad and rice, and water. Both seafood were deep fried with a salty batter. Minus one star. We removed the batter and ate just the meaty parts. Other than the battered part of the meal, the food was good and filling.

Yelp
This place is as real as it gets for the piri piri chicken. It's unbelievable with the wonderful taste and spices. We elected to sit at the bar for faster service. You can also be seated in the dining room, may require wait time. We got a full chicken. Batatas. Salad. Bread. Beer. Water. All for under 20euros. Authentic. Authentic. Enjoy.

Yelp
Pedro Dos Frangos is a casual churrasqueira, or grill restaurant, with an extensive menu of Portuguese dishes with a focus on grilled chicken. My favorite dish was the Octopus Salad, in which huge octopus chunks were marinated in an acidic dressing with chopped onions and parsley. I also had the Codfish Balls, or fritters made of mashed cod and herbs, but the fritters were served cold and would have been much better fresh. The grilled chicken was juicy and nicely seasoned; and the Tripas a moda do Porto was a classic stew of slimy beef tripe cooked in a hearty, savory mixture of white beans, carrots, spicy sausage, and ham chunks. To go with everything, we had a basket of breadrolls and dense slices of corn bread, as well as a mixed salad of lettuce, tomatoes, onions, and shredded carrots. Overall, the food here was delicious and came at an unbeatable value too!

Yelp
I tried the Half Rotisserie Chicken from Pedro Dos Fangos in Porto. The chicken was nicely cooked and had good flavour. Overall, I'd give it 8.3/10.

Yelp
Our local tour guide brought our group here for a casual real Portuguese lunch. Our group loved it. We shared piri piri chicken and fries, a beautiful rice dish full of veggies, and grilled sardines! It was all full of flavor, so much food for lunch! We sat upstairs, the downstairs area was packed. It was a hopping place! Our Spanish tour guide did the ordering for us, and we felt bad about leaving so much food behind. Everything came quickly, and we left very happy and full! It's fun to see all of the chickens roasting and turning in the window as you walk in.

Yelp
The seating is in a couple of rooms upstairs. The server was funny but getting the food and check was slow. The grilled chicken, octopus, and sardine entrees tasted wonderful. Super fresh.

Yelp
To all my fellow tourists. Stay far away from this place. The only edible dish is their roast chicken. The rest is inedible. If there is a Zero Star, I would have chosen it. We ordered the following - oven roasted veal. The meat is dry and hard. Like chewing on a card board - octopus with potatoes. The meat is tender but absolutely no taste in it - grilled pork belly. Meat is dry and hard. Took a bite and left the rest alone - half roasted chicken. Taste decent. Edible We paid $65 euros for the entire meal (May 15 2024) Very bad restaurant. Gives Portugal local food a BaD name. We had so many meals for 11 days in Lisbon and Porto and this place beats them all with bad food. The most frustrating part is we told the waitress about the food couple of times , - all she did was smile and didn't say anything or even told the owner/manager about it. No one came to check on the food We finished off our dinner at McDonald which only cost us 18 euros.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious and authentic local cuisine at this "cozy" and bustling family owned restaurant.

Yelp
Came in for dinner with my family (6 adults) on a Monday at around 6 PM. We were sort of doing our own mini food crawl prior to this so we weren't super hungry. So we decided to order a few things to share. We got the spit-roasted chicken and the Braga style cod (fried salted cod with onions, boiled potatoes, and boiled eggs). The chicken was very good. It was cooked perfectly, even the white meat. I guess that's what happens when you roast it on a spit, which you can awe at at the storefront. Fries were crispy enough but could have used some kind of flavorful dipping sauce. Maybe chicken drippings perhaps??? (I don't know, that's just the fatty in me). Although this place is known for the roast chicken, don't sleep on the fish. Portugal is known for its salted cod, so this dish was really good as well. I wasn't used to having boiled eggs with it but I could get behind it. It does have bones though, and I usually like filets, so just be careful with that. We also ordered a carafe of the green wine and the red wine, which was definitely way too much wine for 6 people (especially when half don't really drink). But the wine was cheaper than water so why not. When on vacation, and when in Portugal, right?

Yelp
Chaotic but festive atmosphere yielded results: piri piri chicken that we absolutely devoured. Fries were soggy tho hot, but the main star was the spicy chicken! We got spicy but I'd call it medium. Pro tip: if you're ordering to take out, pay at the take out shop and then bring your ticket next door to pick up your piping hot chicken.

Yelp
Awesome peri peri chicken and fried pork chops. This restaurant was only a few blocks from our hotel. It was frequented by locals and tourists alike. You can see the rotisserie chicken cooking in the window. We also got a mixed salad and cabbage soup which were both tasty. It took a while foe the food to come out, but it was a nice treat to have some chicken after eating so much fish. Prices were super affordable too. Cost was only 24 Euros for appetizers, mains and one drink for 2 people. Definitely recommend arriving before the dinner rush. This was a nice way to spend our last night of our Portugal trip.

Yelp
What I like here is how affordable the meal is here. The chicken roasted flavorfully and moist. The beef tripe dish is interesting. Although presentation is not that good, it actually has a good combination of flavors and texture. I like the octopus salad here. Being simple but tender and having a good savory sauce. The place has good service too, and the ambient is very local.

Yelp
Oh my gosh!! This was a great place to eat. My husband and I came here twice while in Lisbon. We walked pretty far to get to Pedro dos Frangos which made the food even more scrumptious. Everything was simple and served fast. The flavor was amazing!
google avatar

Yelp
Food is amazing and super affordable. The "small" portion is good enough for 2 or more people. I wish I had tried the roasted chicken. Definitely next time!

Yelp
First meal we had on our visit to porto, and it was delicious. Honestly we stumbled upon this restaurant and we're happy we did. We each had the steak and fries meal, which I was so hungry, I didn't snap a picture. We also had the red wine aged 10 years (tbh cannot remember the name) but it was incredible, very decadent. One of the best wines we had on our visit! The service was great and the interior was simple. Worth a stop by for a straight forward meal.
google avatar

Jason T.

Yelp
We were starving and came in here for some of that tasty roasted chicken. It didn't disappoint. The portion sizes are huge. A full portion can feed two people for sure. The chicken is juicy as can be. Fries are decent. But I'd definitely get the rice again. Comfort food at its finest.
google avatar

Diane J.

Yelp
Famous Porto restaurant known for roasted chicken that's frequented by both locals and tourists for over 60 years. The frango asado was undeniably flavorful, particularly the skin and dark meats. We ordered the full portion with chips, and it came on a massively piled platter. The traditional Porto tripe is tomato-based and came with stewed white beans. Our dish was so enormous that we couldn't finish it, despite it being only half portion. The beans and meat soup was thick and hearty. The codfish fritters were most disappointing because it was already cold when it came to our table.

Yelp
A typical Portuguese family style restaurant that serves up honestly good food at reasonable price. This restaurant has been around for over 60 years. They started out as a rotisserie chicken place, has since also expanded their space, from a small storefront on the ground floor to additional floors above it, to another space right across the street. When we went to the original location, they directed us to the fancier, newer spot across the street, assuring us that it's the same restaurant. Now that they have gained fame among tourists as well (their website offers 6 language options), they have expanded their menu to include most Porto specialties, such as francesinha (a sandwich loaded with all types of meat and topped with a beer cheese sauce), tripas (beef tripes with beans), and more. We ordered the caldo verde, roasted suckling pig and chicken - well, this place started out as a chicken place, so we decided to stay with their specialty. There is plenty of chances to try the other dishes elsewhere. The chicken most certainly do not disappointed. Now, Portuguese chicken will never be as fat and meaty as the ones in the US, it's just different breeds and different raising methods, I suppose. But it's really flavorful. Overall, a very satisfying meal.

Yelp
It's a great local foods. It's good to know about the tradition foods, they had great chicken and bbq . I give 5 points to the services they are awesome and lovely. We also have sangria and it's yummy. I definitely be back if I'm in Porto next time.

Yelp
We stumbled upon this restaurant because they had rotisserie chickens in the window. It was a very good value. The food was excellent. We didn't try any of the other items, but we did see things such as mixed grill, grilled lamb chops, and many kinds of soups. For a quick bite it was a good choice.

Jane A.

Yelp
Everything was delicious. Service was excellent even though it was very busy. Ambiance was basic but not in a bad way, the focus is on food. The staff were nice enough to accommodate a large party with little notice. Definitely recommend!
google avatar

Bubba Y.

Yelp
A decent last meal for us here in Porto. Food was just ok. Be sure to check your bill - we shouldn't have been charged for a couple of items but didn't want to make a scene.
google avatar

Yelp
Decided to try out this place after a long day of walking. My son and boyfriend had the sirloin steaks and fries. The steaks were good and a good deal. I had the mackerel grilled fish with potatoes. The seated us far away from the main dining room with other tourists. It would have been good to sit with the locals instead of in a separate room. The service was good overall.

Jose P.

Yelp
We were hungry and wanted somewhere without long line and local Porto food. It was awesome food. We shared the tripas and chicken for the four of us. Super reasonable and nice service
google avatar

Kassandra Z.

Yelp
The food was delicious as were the mojitos! We had the risotto with beef and mushrooms, which was super tasty. We also had the bread which came with a pumpkin jam that was to die for!

Yelp
The meal here was very reasonably priced, and tasted pretty good too. We arrived around 9 on a Monday night and had a 10min wait since the restaurant was still pretty packed. A few tables did empty out shortly after we sat down though. Ordered: -octopus salad (believe this is called octopus and green sauce), after reading the positive reviews. This was great.. the onions and oil went really well with the octopus -sardines & pepper: came in a set of 6. The sardines were cooked well, but pretty much on par with other places in Portugal (which is good). I wasn't a big fan of the peppers though... they just didn't look very appetizing -half order of veal: this too was fine. Pretty good, especially for the price. I wish this came with fries instead of potatoes though -chicken: this seemed to be the specialty. It was moist, but just not that flavorful. We requested some chilli sauce to add. The fries on the side were delicious though
google avatar

Yelp
There were a ton of locals eating at the counter when we first stepped into the restaurant. That is always a good sign. The food is fresh, tasty and inexpensive for what it is. The staff was friendly and made us feel welcomed. The chicken has a nice flavor and was cooked perfect! Would definitely recommend!
google avatar

Deb A.

Yelp
mix grill- just ok Chicken was super dry and cold when we got it. Pork was tough and hard to chew Beef was medium well but not as chewy Chorizo tasted like keilbasi Another smoked sausage was good but could not figure out what's in it. Cauliflower was pickled and salty Sangria - eh... generic Service- this is an eat and go place so dont expect personality

Steve V.

Yelp
I've been going to Pedro's for over 20 years. Anything on the menu is excellent. Superior service, great prices and friendly staff. And they have the best piri piri in the world.

Bob Y.

Yelp
It was okay. Definitely not as good as the 5 star reviews make it out to be. We unfortunately got fried seafood and it was quite greasy. While portions were big, it was a lot of fries and sliced potatoes. There are so many better options, starting near by at R. de Passos Manuel. We wound up eating a second dinner at Lado B
google avatar

Kelly M.

Yelp
Such a hidden gem. Stumbled in to this place our first night in Porto. Great good and service. Highly recommend the baked cod.
google avatar

Bojan P.

Yelp
There were 5 of us who came for lunch . Food (4 stars): Octopus salad: boiled octopus, 5 stars. Chicken on a split with fries - 4.5 stars. Delicious and very fatty. The fries were fatty as well. Bean with tripes -3 stars. The beans had too much liquid for my taste. The tripes do not have lots of flavour generally and the beans did not make them taste amazing. If you never tried tripes give it a shot, I would do half a dose. We ordered some beers. The total was 38€. We were all full at the end of the meal. Service: (5 stars) Although the waiter did not speak a lot of English, he tried very hard to explain what was on the menu, and gave his suggestions. Ambiance: 3.5 stars First floor has a bar table and a very narrow walkway next to it which will get you to the second and third floors which have tables. Everything is a bit worn out and crammed.

Hao C.

Yelp
Terrific food, friendly staff, and warm ambiance, and after all, reasonable priced where locals and tourists all could enjoy
google avatar

Yelp
Authentic homemade Portuguese food. Every waiter was an older guy and looked to have been working there for years, which is usually a good sign. They specialize in seafood and chicken. I wasn't in a foul mood (see what I did there?), so I ordered the fried octopus. It was perfectly cooked and had great texture and flavor and came with a salad and rice. Portions are pretty big, and a half order will fill you up. My better half got the calamari (also with rice and salad) and it too was awesome. We topped it all off with a side of "thin fries," which are really just homemade potato chips, but a little chewy (in a good way) and Portuguese sausage. Very good, pretty affordable, clean and good service. I'd recommend it. If you do go, however, be warned that they have two buildings, directly across the street from each other. Each have the same menu but the building on the west side has more of dining room setting upstairs.
google avatar

Yelp
Divey and counter restaurant with yummy Piri Piri kind of spot! Chicken is cooked flavored well and moisture is stil there - generous, proportionately sized and served with hot sauce complimenting the taste buds! Fries included on the platter! Attentive waiter at the counter bar seating! I love the octopus salad here and it well with their wine that they poured all the way to the top literally! It's one of those meals that one appreciates for the soul! Fulfilling and smiles!
google avatar

Ritzi S.

Yelp
Good chicken and rice! They were able to accept a big group of 13 without prior reservation. Service was okay.
google avatar

Geanr L.

Yelp
Great simple food. Highly rated and hearty tasty dinners by all. Chicken certainly their specialty. Simple green salad delicious. Suckling pig kinda tasteless. Veal chops were great. The fries much better than the "thin" fries, which were greasy sliced potatoes meant to be chips. Great stag and a very happy place. Huge take out operation all night. Get the chicken and fries.
google avatar

Suzie L.

Yelp
Amazing grilled chicken!! This is a great place to visit if you want to feast on grilled meats. We decided we preferred the atmosphere at the bar and after a drink ended up eating our dinner there. We a had a really fantastic meal of chicken and pork ribs - which was grilled over charcoal in front of us! The waiter recommended a really a great wine so we had a fabulous night! Note that there are 2 restaurants on opposite sides of Rua do Bonjardim - we went to the more upscale looking one!
google avatar

Yelp
Huge restaurant huge menu very good food. Our server told us he worked there for many years and was very polite and helpful. They cover all the Portuguese basics and then some. Spending a week in Porto- spend an evening here
google avatar

Yelp
Great restaurant. Give it a try and have the chicken. Service was excellent. Consider sharing.

Yelp
Great food, fresh seafood. BBQ chicken is very good. Wine was very drinkable. Great value. We actually returned the next day but it was closed.
google avatar

Yelp
If you are looking for peri peri chicken and a cheap meal with huge portions this place fits the bill. Nothing fancy but good chicken and local specialties like tripes. You won't leave hungry that's for sure and your wallet won't take a big hit, perfect for hungry families.
google avatar

Dianne S.

Yelp
Holy bifanha! So much flavor to a simple slab of pork (marinated in a mix of garlic, salt, paprika, piri-piri sauce, vinegar, and wine) on a doughy baguette. Get it! I think this is way better than the Francesinha! Get the sandwich plain-it needs nothing added to it at all- IT IS PERFECTION IN SANDWICH FORM! They've got a huge menu including octopus salad and piri piri. Cash only. A bar on the first level for casual dining and those coming for drinks. Line up on the stairs to your left for a table. I like eating at the bar...it's where all the locals park it! They're also quite generous with their pours of wine....up to the rim!
google avatar

Jon C.

Yelp
A little off the beaten track, this place is a gem! Most of their dishes are offered in full size and half size. Half size is big enough for one person. You could arguably say half size could be split amongst two people. I had the octopus. How do they get it so soft! It was delicious with some pickled vegetables and boiled potatoes. The potatoes were definitely boiled in salt water cause they tasted good. Then also had the veal. Half size has three slices and they were juicy! Comes with double cooked potatoes and rice. The beer here is very cheap too. The guys here are polite and quite nice. While they don't speak much English, they came to show me the food before packing it up. They do take away too. Would definitely eat here again!

Yelp
O serviço a mesa poderia ser mais simpático. Mas é um bom lugar, boa comida tradicional Portuguesa.
