8 reasons to visit one of Bali’s best-kept secrets - SilverKris

"Situated on the main market street, this workshop showcases local women weaving the treasured Balinese endek fabric on traditional wooden hand-looms. The textiles are prized for precise techniques, ceremonial significance and richly symbolic patterns and colours, and visitors can attend a simple downstairs workshop to watch artisans at work and better appreciate the craftsmanship behind each piece." - Penny Watson

Was so interesting to see and find out how long it takes to make a batik sarong approx 6 days from sinning the cotton onto a board then the intricaye pattern is made then dyed then out to dry and then dyed again with other colours then onto the weaving machine then takes 2 days to finish. Make sure you leave a donation for them

We visited with our two small children and was fascinating to see the hard work behind the production of Sarungs. Highly recommended to stop by and to get souvenirs from the shop.

Beautiful fabrics shop well worth the visit, even if only to check it out while in Sideman. You can bargain/haggle, but you’ll need to be a seasoned veteran to get them to move a lot on price.... or buy more things. We bought two Sarongs and a woven fabric, negotiated hard and got a good discount. Great views off the back/side of the building. Have a seat after shopping and take in the vista and cool breezes.

The fabrics are stunning - varied and very beautiful. The reason I have given one star is that the people (appears to be only women) who actually make the fabric work in unpleasant conditions whilst the owners have a lavish home just above them. When I emailed Pelangi to ask about this they did not reply. If they can reply here I would be grateful and happy to change my review.
