Wow.
where do I start?
I found this place after looking through one of those touristy booklets you find in your hotel lobby. Buy One get one Parasail ride 1/2 off???? DONE!
My kids (11, 14 and 17) all wanted to parasail while visiting Destin. So, what the hell, I decided to as well.
Our departure time was 11:30am. At 10:50am Blake came over to grab our group. We headed down to the dock and boarded our boat. The boat is smaller than I expected, held 12 passengers, which was nice! I hate oversized boats while on the ocean, they're the worst especially if you get a middle seat.
Anyway.. We head out to the Gulf (not the Bay which is VERY different if you don't know). While cruising out there Blake is explaining the rules with humor. He was quite funny with an awesome sense of humor. My kids found him to be entertaining.
We made it out to sea and while we're all suited up in our harnesses he looks at me and my 11 year old, "you're up". OH shit... we're first??? Okay then...
I was a little afraid of how this was all going to go seeing as though I'm a voluptuous girl... okay, I'm a big girl, and this thing is gonna hold me??? Sure as hell did! It went quick.. sit on your butt, an slowly, the parachute takes you up, way up... like 500 feet up! It was quiet, and peaceful, and you feel weightless. For me, big girl over here, that felt incredible!
We saw dolphins, sting rays, large sea turtles and even a shark!
We were up there for roughly 10 minutes or so, and it was the perfect amount of time.
They started pulling us back in slowly, and before you know it you're back on the boat.
We had 3 spectators and 9 riders on our boat. We were out on the ocean for about 90 minutes. If you've never been on a boat in the ocean its incredible. So, if you're worried about what you do while you wait for your turn, don't worry, enjoy the view and the wind in your hair.
On our way back to the dock, Blake would point out Dolphins swimming behind the boat. We were even able to see a small baby dolphin playing in the wake. It was definitely not expected to see that as they don't advertise, but it certainly made my morning. We saw SEVERAL dolphins that morning.
Blake also recommended things to do and see, asked everyone how long they were in town and what they had planned. He mentioned "tourist traps" and what to avoid if you're not into that sort of thing. I found him to be very knowledgeable and helpful
Lastly -
This place doesn't have the amount of good reviews as it should. It was EXCELLENT!! my kids are already talking about coming back next year. It was worth the price and go early to get the BOGO special!
These guys work on tips...make sure you bring cash. Blake worked hard, fast and most importantly, safely. We tipped him $20, and in all fairness it should've been at least $40... too bad I didn't have more cash.
Do yourself a favor and check out Pelican Adventures.
You can thank me later.
