Pelican Lodge and Camping

We had the worst experience of any ever in Botswana. The aircons aren't working in most rooms and there is so much maintenance needed that they can basically just break everything down and rebuild. The swimming pool is empty and even though the staff said it's under maintenance, it has been empty for years. There are lice in the beds and most of the showers aren't working properly. At dinner there was also not enough cutlery and the bar is not well stocked. There was also not enough food and we had to wait long for food to be restocked if there was more left. The staff really tried, but they couldn't make all this right even if they tried. The food was also put on the grill in the morning and just left there with no attention and flies everywhere. The next morning when it came to payments there were beverages on the bill that was not ours and it took way too long to actually pay. Overall the place has potential but there is NO MANAGEMENT.

We arrived at Pelican Lodge feeling very excited as we had stayed with them 10 years ago and we absolutely had the very experience. Unfortunately the owner has not maintained the property. The pool was empty and looked like had been like that for some time. The gardens have not been looked after and are all over grown. The building needs a good paint and the paving and thatch need to be re-done. In saying all of this the room we stayed in was very clean. The bed and pillows were super comfortable and we had the best shower head and pressure. The staff were very friendly and kind. James and Mishak made such a great effort. Mishak made us a wonderful dinner of rump steak and chips, exactly what we asked for and it was super yummy. We even got a yummy dessert spoil. The owner has got a real gem he just needs to make an effort to clean up and do a few renovations because the staff are super amazing.

Whilst there we had dinner in the dark after power went. They claimed generator was out for repairs. After 30 minutes a few candles were organised. Meantime the buffet food was cold. For such a big entity surely they should always have proper water and electricity backup.

Seriously, I have never experienced anything like it. ||No water in the pool||No tea/coffee in the rooms||Bug infestations beyond belief||No mosquito nets to protect you from the flying, biting bugs ||Rude, un helpful staff ||The list is endless ||||Nata Lodge - 4km down the road is fantastic, worth every penny!

The lodge has probably seen better times before Corona. We were the only guests. The rooms are modern and clean. The water from the shower is salty, but not too bad. Dinner and breakfast was very good. The team is very hard-working and friendly. I hope things get better for them soon.

Lovely place and scenery. Clean and easily accessible.

The room are super spacious. The can be water shortages at times. Their WiFi service is not up to scratch. Its situated in close proximity to rooming wild animal, so extra caution must be taken, especially during the night.
