Where to Stay in Athens When You Visit (Updated 2025)

"Just a few minutes' stroll from Monastiraki metro, Pella Inn Hostel has both dorms and private rooms with lockers and some balconies; the decor and dorm bunks are basic and not super comfortable, and it isn't overly social, but the location is fantastic and there are female-only dorms available." - Matthew Kepnes

I would call it a very decent value for money. The dorm I slept in (8 beds) was pretty minimalistic but nothing missing and the bed was comfy. The shower and a miniature wc room have non-see through glass doors, a bit strange kind of feeling when it comes to privacy. The morning cleaning didn't happen before the check-out time, naturally, so the wc was ..well, like when 8 guys use it a couple of times and many of them without too much consideration for others. However, it tells more about the guests than the facility itself, to be fair. There's only so much the staff can do. Speaking of staff, they were very friendly and helpful. Not an easy job to run a place like this in downtown Athens, I guess. The rooftop terrace view fully lived up to the hype, a truly great spot! Parking my motorcycle required some thought, patience, and a bit of luck but eventually all was fine. Location is great during the day: a very good gyros place right across the street, a decent cup coffee a block away. Not more than 20 minutes of a lazy pace walk to Acropolis. The location at night... well, depends on how you can sleep with an ever present street noise coming through the windows. I wouldn't take points away here, it's what you're signing up for when deciding to spend the night in this neighborhood. Overall, if you don't want to spend more than just over a tenner to sleep in the comfort of a bed that is a stone throw away from Acropolis, and to enjoy the evening takeaway/morning coffee with a view to remember, this place as as fine as it gets.

Great location, great service. We had a private room with own bathroom. Room and furniture and shower are outdated, but for us for this price this was a good deal. Awesome views from the roof terrace to the city and Acropolis. Good and safe neighborhood with huge amount of great restaurant options and, antique stores, vinyl record stores etc.etc. At walking distance to almos all the cool sights. Very short walk to underground station.

Pretty nice, not much more you can ask for given the price. Rooftop was awesome, open 24h, and you can bring you own drinks up there and enjoy the view. They have AC, comfy beds and clean rooms. Maybe the pillows could use an upgrade but overall it’s great. Location is fantastic. My one and only complaint is that the WIFI didn’t work properly on the rooftop.

My husband and I stayed for 3 nights. Private room 36 was substandard. It was very small and clearly needed more maintenance. The door handle fell off, the electricity sockets are a hazards as it was falling off and was not in a good location (against the middle of the bed), the furniture was in terrible condition, the "shower" was right beside the toilet, with no separation and hardly any space (I had to sit on the toilet to shower), the toilet seat was not attached to the toilet and the hair dryer was falling off the wall (the hole attaching the support was too big / missing the screw base so the hairdryer would fall off when you removed it from the support to use it. The elevator is a tight squeeze for 2 people, when you open the door you have to be careful because you could fall down the stairs, there was graffiti on the walls of the elevator (with no attempt of trying to clean). There is no light in the stairway, and this is dangerous especially since you need to use the stairs to get to the rooftop. The protective bars as you climb the stairs are bent. The rooftop terrace had fabulous views, but the furniture is not well-maintained and it area was dirty and needed maintenance. The reception area looked dirty and cluttered. On the plus side, the staff was friendly, the views from the rooftop were great and the location was very good. I will NOT be staying here again and will NOT recommend this place to anyone.

Amazing location near a train station and the Acropolis with other attractions within walking distance. Lucas George at the front desk gave great suggestions and was very helpful during our stay. The eight bed dorms do not have outlets near the bed, no curtains on the beds, no lockable lockers, and the room where the shower is isn’t sealed so water leaks out into the room every time. We changed to a private room partially because of these reasons and the private rooms were tidy with views of the Acropolis from the balcony.

Location couldn't be better. Within easy walking distance to all major attractions. Staff are nice and helpful. Decent and clean showers and bathrooms. Also great views of the Acropolis from the rooftop area. The bad: rooms are dated, no outlets next to all upper bunks, no in-room lockers, and the ones that are available are 2 Euros per use. But the worst of all is wi-fi - it is virtually nonexistent with an upload speed of 0.18mbps, plus it constantly kicks you out. This hostel would probably work only if you spend minimum time there, like shower and sleep.

Conveniently located to nearby attractive eateries, and within 300 meters from the Monasteraki square and metro to the airport. The reception staff is super friendly, very reachable and very well informed of anything you may need in Athens. The rooftop terrace has an amazing view of the Acropolis. Without a doubt, I recommend this hostel.

Google
Great location. Cheap. Would be better if wifi was available on the roof. The roof itself is gorgeous. I wish the bathrooms were outside the dorms. Staff was friendly and helpful. For the same price I spent a night at bedbox hostel and I'd stay there again instead of here, because the bathroom and setup was better. Not so many wall plugs in the room.
