Pellegrino 2000- tiny spot in Surry Hills — dim lights, candles, and that kind of vintage buzz where everyone’s squeezed in just right. Feels cozy and a little chaotic in a good way.
The focaccia was soft and airy, light enough to tear apart with one hand. Would’ve hit harder if it came out a bit warmer
Prosciutto and burrata — largely dependent on the ingredients. No fancy tricks, just clean flavours: creamy burrata, salty prosciutto. Asked for their homemade chilli oil — turned out to be a gem. Crispy flakes, smoky aroma- works well with the burrata.
Charred octopus with beans. Nicely cooked, just enough char edges. Creamy Sauce tights everythng together.
Then came the rigatoni carbonara, supposedly their signature. Honestly, too salty. Both the guanciale and the sauce tipped the dish over the edge. The mix of fried and regular guanciale added great texture though — that crisp-soft contrast worked.
Steak was decent for the price ($70), but you could tell it wasn’t prime cut. This said a lot about how expensive eating out in Sydney’s getting.
Overall, a good upper-casual dining experience.
