If it's mod cons and flashy rooms you're after, this is not your place. Wifi is only available in odd places, and the beds are a bit ricketty. But if you want to go back in time to a more civilised era, then you'll love it. A gong invites you to excellent meals, with coffee served in the lounge where guests chat and play games. No en suites, but a plethora of hot water options after a long day hiking, with a couple of truly amazing Victorian surprises. Friendly and helpful staff who make you feel like family. Fabulously placed to explore Snowdonia, it describes itself as 'the home of British mountaineering', famously used as a base by Hilary and Tenzing. We fell in love with the place.

Fabulous one of a kind hotel. Steeped in climbing history, great guest lounges and bar. Games room, sauna, wild swimming lake. Not a TV in site!|Very good home cooked food served in the old fashioned way, dinner at 7.30, that's it. Staff are wonderful, can't praise the place highly enough. First visit for 23 years can't wait to go back. Thank you.

Amazing stay at the Pen-y-Gwryd on a Thursday night. We had only been previously for a bar meal and drinks in previous years. A stay, however, was definitely on the cards. Great service and very nice 5 course meal in the evening. Excellent wine list and a tasty red Bordeaux to go with the venison. Breakfast is at the civilised time of 8.30 giving one adequate time to check out by 10.30. Our pre ordered packed lunches, that were also tasty, were waiting for us on the breakfast table. Very nice room. The view over the garden and the lake in the evening was lovely. We fortunately had unusually mild and sunny weather for November. My wife even had a swim in the natural pool in the garden. I wasn't quite so brave and just watched whilst having a cold local (Purple Moose) larger. What I thought made it extra special was when we called back in, on the Friday, after 12 for a drink and we were still treated as guests despite having checked out that morning. We will be going back.

An excellent place to stay! If you're visiting Snowdonia you really need to see this place. The staff are lovely, the atmosphere of the building is amazing and the food is great. We didn't have an evening meal this time but the breakfast really sets you up for a day's walking in the hills. The location of this hotel is amazing too. The history, relating to Everest, is incredible.

Myself and my 2 young sons had a fantastic stay at the hotel ahead of the boys' first walk up snowden. The hotel is steeped in mountaineering history and provided a very interesting and enjoyable visit. Staff were super friendly and very accommodating. The breakfast was also top notch - and they were happy to provide a packed lunch for our hike. Our 2 boys were invested into the hotel's Snowden Club - which they were both delighted with. All in all, a hotel stay which I am sure they'll remember for a lifetime. Thank you.

The Pen Y Gwryd is a special place. Nestled right into Snowdonia National Park with mountain passes, such as the Pen Y Pas - gateway to Mount Snowden - and Moel Siabod nearby, you really are at the heart of British mountaineering. The rooms are quirky and feel a bit like you're in The Shining. The staff and available facilities make for a delightful stay though; I spent a weekend, reconnecting with North Wales, after an almost 20 year gap in visiting the region. The fact I managed to climb a mountain and spend time with friends was like fresh snow atop the mountains.

A historical hotel, set at the foot of Snowdon, steeped in history. Kind staff , comfortable room (garden room). A special mention for the Chef Gareth and Dylan and the kinda ladies serving us food and drinks. Very delicious meals, quick food service at meal times. We were really spoiled. Lots of choice and chef Gareth was excellent with helping us with our serious allergies. We left with full tummies and grateful hearts. The location of this hotel is perfect. The cold lake and sauna were also brilliant post hikes! We were a group of 9 and 1 night if 11 so far think groups of this size were accommodated so well.
