Pen Y Gwryd Hotel

Used to stay at this hotel many a year back in the 1990's. I would stop overnight eat alarm shank and some sticky toffee pudding, and then run Crib Goch to Snowdon and do the horseshoe and back to for an overnight, a sauna and a jump in the cold lake. Went recently and it still kept some charm. Fab days... ✨

Great location as base to climb Snowdon. The staff are very friendly and helpful, I had a very early start so they left sandwiches in the fridge for me to take on my hike as well as adding some fruit and biscuits. Clean rooms with stunning views. Parking is available right next to the hotel. Overall a very pleasant experience.

Oh my gosh. How enchanting indeed. This place truly transported me back to the time when Edmand Hillary and his expedition team where training here. The place really hasn’t changed one bit since then, they have a series of bath rooms (literally rooms with baths in them) that you are allowed to request to use one of the magnificent Victorian baths (There is also a big shower). They even have a collection of equipment, clothes and basically anything from the Everest team. All of the staff are delightful and very willing to help with any queries. The hotel is a short walk or bus ride (10 mins tops) from the foot of Snowdon which is obviously one of the big reasons you would go there. The meals were delicious and they are very good at adapting to different diets when told in advance! I just love the place! It fells like a real people place and you are welcomed in to the family very quickly 😊. Would highly recommend to anyone who wants to take a step back in time and arrive back from the mountains to a warm, welcoming hotel.

Stayed as part of a group booking, made by friends for their celebration. Had a fantastic time! The hotel staff were great in every respect, food was delicious and the whole group was served at once with incredible efficiency. Location was brilliant for our walk, although I’m unfamiliar with the area so assume it’s as good as it gets. Bus stops outside the building. The hotel hasn’t been touched by any heavy duty refurbs so feels authentic and like stepping back in time; so refreshing. Hats of to Gareth for keeping us refreshed! I’ll be back, for sure.

Fantastic place if you like your mountains. Rooms are basic in facilities but very clean and in keeping with the feel of the hotel being authentic and not flash. Food was fab, good portions, loads of veggies and the sticky toffee pudding definitely sticks to the ribs! All cooked in the kitchen and not prepackaged like in other hotels. Lovely staff too, very friendly and attentive. Well worth popping in for a drink if you don’t have the time to stay

I thoroughly enjoyed my stay here — it’s the perfect spot for a weekend getaway, especially if you’re planning to climb Snowdon, with the trail starting right at your doorstep. The staff were exceptionally friendly, and the whole experience was fantastic. After seven hours of hiking, relaxing in the sauna and taking a refreshing dip in the pond was exactly what I needed before tucking into a delicious three-course meal. There’s not much mobile reception, so don’t expect to be checking emails — which, honestly, made it all the more relaxing. 💯🇳🇿

Our small party of two arrived here after a long hike in the hills of Snowdonia and we were pleasantly surprised by nearly everything. The hotel itself is a very charming place with gorgeous backdrops on all sides. The (mountaineering) history throughout the hotel is really cool to see as well. Some parts of the hotel might have seen better days, but nothing really feels outdated or broken. Our room was spacious and nice with a great view.||A big plus was that the staff was really friendly and helpful. When it turned out our luggage wasn't escorted properly from the last B&B they helped us out where they could. In addition they also made a vegetarian three course meal especially for us so we could dine in the hotel. ||All in all this was a very nice experience that made us want to come back a second time (for more nights, which we'll surely do when we are in the neighbourhood again) :)
