Recommended, must visit and don't missed it when you re at penang. It's cold weather, good view, nice spot photo area. Surau, temple, hotel, toilet, restaurant available on top. Parking area available with surcharge before entering the funicular train. Different price for local and foreigner, early morning more cheaper. Got jungle tracking for exploring. Be ready also some area must paid before entering. Buggy with surcharge also available for exploring the hill area, u can ask to drop at monkey cup just enjoy nice coffee and some sandwiches, very nice combination at the cold weather. If you re hungry u can buy food and drink at cliff cafe, price reasonable coz on top of hill, or for more rilex and enjoy you can eat at David brown with more expensive. At night view absolutely beautiful. can see 360 degrees Georgetown view. In the morning we can fell the mist, it's very nice. To go up must be patiently coz queue. Advice to wear confortable clothes.

So much of new development since I last came in August 2025. Tram service is good, organised, and efficient. Didn't have to wait for too long. The experience of going uphill and downhill in the tram is interesting. Once up there, you will be greeted with gentle and chill breeze, it's so refreshing. There are a few platforms for photo shooting and enjoying the view of penang island. A lot of souvenir stalls and there's a food courts where you can enjoy local delicacies. So many kid-friendly activities here. For this trip, I visited the Habitat, a reserve forest where u can take tour guide to bring you through the forest on the canopy bridge, it is well maintained and the scenery is just spectacular. We stayed here till sunset. What a perfect experience to enjoy the beauty of Penang.

First time back at this lovely hill after decades long. I was a kid the last i was here, but now I get to bring my own kids. The view from up here is spectacular. You could see for miles! Recommend to check out The Habitat. A serene nature walk on the longest canopy walk, and also the unique Curtis Tree Top Walk - a 360 view of Penang Island from the highest point on the island. Do go up on the morning to enjoy the cool breeze tjat would stay chilly even at high noon. A place for solo travelers, couples, families and friends. Young and old...healthy old. Don't miss this spot on your visit to Penang.

Google
A great place to have a view on all George town. It's great to have a hike to the summit. We went from botanic garden but note, that's worth to have good shoes and be in a good condition. It's not a casual walk but a demanding hike. Otherwise you can choose a cable cart

Google
Penang hill was literally the highlight of our visit to Penang island. The cable car ride and the view from the top are none to second. We were unfortunately late so we didn’t manage to visit the habitat which was a pity but maybe a good reason to come back.

Google
This hill is a beautiful place combination of beauty, heritage, modern eco tourism , breathtaking and many more. This is at the 800 meters above the sea level and it is away from the town. Very clean place. The hill is very steeped, one ca experience various flora and fauna,130 million years old rainforest etc. Lastly, reaching the peak itself is an adventure in itself. Thanks to the iconic steep railway service.

Yelp
This is probably the only place on our itinerary that was the most crowded. For some reason all of the tourists come here. There are some nice views when the fog isn't there. They have different food restaurants that you can eat at. We had lunch at David Brown's. Most people just buy drinks and just sit at the tables facing the city. Just a warning, those people just sit there for hours taking pictures. The food was good. They are short on staff though. Tickets were 30 RM for standard two way. The fast lane for 80 RM two way is a rip off. You only get in first but you don't ride faster than a standard. The funicular service runs from 6:30 am to 11 pm. If you don't want to ride it, you can hike up for free. It's worth a visit while you're in Penang.

Yelp
Unfortunately we wanted to see the sunset, but the way the hills and trees are positioned, you won't be able to see it. But, we were told the sunrise is beautiful here. There's lots of activities to do here. The place is quite large. Food vendors are around. There's a wild animal exhibit. An amusement park at the top. If you go to the cafe, you can pay for drone shots and a mivie

Yelp
A gorgeous little day hike that overlooks the city! The hike is definitely worth it, and is a nice way to get a little exercise in while on vacation, the trail is fairly well marked with arrows, and offers breathtaking views, wildlife, It took about 2ish hours to get to the top. However, if hiking is not your thing, take the tram up/down, (for a price, hiking is free), and enjoy the views from the cable car. At the top there's plenty of kitschy things such as putting a lock on the bridge, food stalls, and photo opps. Visit the habitat, for some more views of wildlife, plants, etc!

Yelp
Yeah, I'm going to complain about the lack of autotellers up here as well, namely because I didn't make sure that I had enough cash when I came up here. Yeah, some places might take VISA, but seriously, I generally accept Indochina as basically being a cash economy. Well, that seems to be the case here. Sure, you do get some pretty awesome views of Penang, and there are a few walks that you can take as well, but then again you probably do need to give yourselves a lot more time than the hour or so that we did. Oh, and they line to get down is pretty long, unless you pay to cut the line, but, well, no cash so no go.

Yelp
Definitely recommend a visit for 360 degree views of the island!

Yelp
Most people take the cable tram up to the mountain top but what if you can skip the crowd and hike up instead? C'mon, you can do it. It's 4.5 miles and 2400' climb from the Moongate. The trail is well marked and took us just over 2 hours. Amazing views of the city, wildlife along the way and you won't be alone. Saw a surprising number of adventurous souls and hiking clubs using the trail. Very fulfilling adventure. Once at the top you can still do all the kitschy stuff like put a lock on the fence, eat crappy food, or take your picture in the monkey cut out. Have fun. If you don't want to hike back just take the cable tram back down the hill.

Yelp
If you are looking for the best viewpoint on Penang, that would be Penang Hill also known as Bukit Bandera. It is located in the center of the island. It is easy to get to Penang Hill as there is frequent public bus service to this attraction. It does take quite a while to get there due to the distance from George Town. To get up to Penang Hill, you need to take a cable car train up which costs RM 30 for a roundtrip. It seems a bit steep for the short ride, but I would compare this to visiting an observatory as you probably are visiting this attraction for the view. But you will forgive the pricing when you do get up to Penang Hill. The view is nice and comprehensive. You can see the Penang Bridge down below from here. And there are a couple other attractions up top like a Hindu temple and mosque. There are a number of eateries on Penang Hill if you are looking for a meal including a British-styled restaurant as well as a food court serving local cuisine favorites. I had my first taste of char kway teow here which was one of my favorite dishes that I tried from my trip to Penang. If you want to get away from the hustle and bustle in George Town, make your way to Penang Hill. There you will find a wonderful view that you will be reminded of every time you reminisce about your trip to Penang.

Yelp
Everybody surely is well known about Penang Hill, but do you guys know what's cool up there? Jeng jeng jeng. *dance* First, if you're a scenery hunter, this is the right place for you. Totally. You'll get to see the whole Georgetown view up here. Technically. Height of more than 2000ft height, Penang Hill offers the best panorama of George Town, and other conurbations on the eastern coast of Penang Island. There's designated binocular (I guess that's what they call it? Maybe?) that allows you to enjoy the view of the island - but you must be inserted some coins first lah. Nothing is free kay. Even entering a toilet could cost you up to 50 cents now. :( Second, the train itself is the attraction (well for me) I've been here long ago when I was 3 years old, where they still operates with the old red train cabin. Anyhow, the latest I've been, they've switched to the new comfortable blue cabin, which is super smooth and user-friendly. I super love it! Even travelling in it felt so much convenient! There's no noise (except the chit-chats of people), it's fast almost 60% equivalent to a roller coaster - except that they don't have much adventurous trails. The ticket fairs are varies, you check check'em up from website or during lining up while buying one. Third, there's mosque and temple up there - basically sort of an attraction to me. When I was there, there's few groups of mat saleh photographing there hence I believe those religious place has its own attractions. Cafes, not to be denied, there's few up there. Same goes to the accommodations. You can choose them according to your preferences. Other catchy attractions uphill are the museums! Besides scenery and nature, Penang hill also holds many historical values and identity. Historic values liker, this is suitable for you guys! Next next next the new attraction! The Love Lock Bridge! Yeahhhhh! One thing I love about Malaysia. We can have our own version of every outsider cool attractions! You know, MALAYSIA BOLEH :D Ahhhh too many things to be mentioned till I myself might missed out few interesting activities there. Anyhow, Penang Hill is very suitable for families, kids, and even honeymooners! (I've met one when I was there) But please be patience in finding the parking nearby because the area is kinda small.

Yelp
Great views of the rest of Penang. Lots of monkeys here to keep you company. There is a railway that leads to the top, arriving early in the morning we only waited 15 minutes to get to the top. The first train compartment is the best because it allows you to see the train climbing up the hill. Earlier in the day is better as it avoid later heat. Tickets are $30. The lines to get down the hill are worse, closer to an hour. Given the extra cost and wait time it is better to go visit Kek Lot Si Temple if you are time constrained and get views from there instead.

Yelp
What a difference from so many years ago. Recommended is the free guided walking tours in the morning by very knowledgable guides and end it at the food court.

Yelp
One of the famous attraction in Penang Island. the top of the hill cool down the heat of the island. Plus with the view of Georgetown from the hill. It worth the price paid for the funicular train. The train cost me around RM8 if i am not mistaken. What else you can do at the hilltop? Beside a great escape from the city, natural environment surround you with cool temperature. I have been there for several times, i enjoyed the most for its fresh air that i couldn't get in Kuala Lumpur. The latest attraction for the visitor, Owl museum and love lock - yes , exactly it does exist at Penang hill. You dont need to go to Korea or Paris to lock your love. Lock your love at this hill since its on top of the island :P Food court available at the hilltop but the price is a little bit high. I managed to bought Nasi Goreng Ayam and it cost me around RM 10.50 Hmm it a little bit pricey but that is the only food i think the cheapest and worth my taste.

Yelp
If you have the time... Take the tram up the hill for some views, food, drink and some culture.

Doris S.

Yelp
The highest landmark in Penang Island and has a nice train service to the top of the hill with great view and parks. Great for hiking but if you just want to tour the place, there are many golf carts vendors willing to bring you around.
