This was great place to relax and unwind. Staff were extremely helpful and gave us lots of information to help us enjoy the area. The beaches locally felt safe both for swimming and security though we did not swim from the beach right outside the back door of the hotel because the weather at the time of our visit had been quite stormy. Our rooms were cleaned and tidied every day and the breakfasts were excellent. Generally we loved the area and would love to return to explore a little further using this pousada as a base. Klaus, the owner, speaks excellent English but was away during our stay.He left Joseph in charge who was lovely and more than helpful and also spoke very good English which was more than helpful to us.

The place is very well built and it is in a quiet part of the island, perfect for a calm and invigorating stay. Breakfast is very good and gives a good amount of energy for the day but I wouldn't mind if it were served a little earlier, let's say, around 7:00 / 7:30 - so we could go earlier to beach and enjoy the first sun rays.. The room I took on the second floor was very nice, large and good enough for a family of three. Very nice bathroom, shower with enough space and water pressure. One thing I enjoy was the lounge with a pool table and big screen cable tv - good for rainy days.||One thing I found a bit complicate was getting a cab, but there are buses nearby.||A supermarket helps being just a block away.I really enjoyed my stay.

Great location -- including private entry to the beach. Clean rooms, equipped sufficiently. Tasty breakfast. The best feature is the staff: super friendly, even if your Portuguese is lacking! The only reason it's not 5/5 is the price, which can be a bit lower in my opinion.

This pousada is located at the praia armacao and there is a direct access to the beach; nice to go when it is dark to look at the stars with the great noice of the waves, either or not with a glass of wine. If you need a place that is an ideal starting point to discover the south of the island, which is the most beautiful part, this is a great place. A rental car is advised but also buses go frequently to all spots, also to the start of trails that lead to amazing beaches (Lagoinha, Naufragados, Saquinho, Campeche Island ...). Access by foot to Matadeiro beach too, and to the boats leaving to Campeche Island. Also easy acces to Ribeirao by bus or car, a great village with amazing restaurants (oysters !). The owner, Klaus, has good tips about restaurants (eg Pantano do Sul village at the beach), trails, and can be asked anything about the island. Breakfast is nice and complete and can be taken until 11.00, what is nice for people that want a relaxed and delayed start of the day. Our room was clean with a good shower and airco. Balcony was small and only used for drying clothes, but in the garden there are chairs to lie down so you can relax with a book after a tiring hike or swim outside. So ... to our opinion, nice place to discover the island if you are not seeking for huge rooms in a resort, but for a relaxing atmosphere in a correct, clean and nice pousada with easy access to all places you need to visit.

These comments are all so super positive and I can't understand why? The place is nice and the pousada is correct. Breakfast is good too and the location as well.|So all Ok, right! Maybe it is just me, but I felt the price is too high for what all this is about. The room is very simple, quite large, but furniture and decoration are cheap and getting old; bed and bathroom are ok. But the fridge kept me awake all night long as it is with a very noisy compressor and not an in-room minibar. Everything feels humid and moist, no closed cabinet or table and chair. Reservation process is messy and replying time between 3 days and no reply.|I don't think I would return, nor recommend. Once on site, the owner Claus is very pleasant and helpful in sharing tips and recommendations; though most were not current anymore; Monday all restaurant recommendations failed, as they were closed ( I admit it is not high-season ) and the famed hiking path along the coastline to a hidden gem beach, ended in the sub-tropical jungle at about 1/4 of the way. So not much to do around here except for the beach and surf - and there are about 40 more of those around. Possibly it is just the best you can get in this area; a truly nice region if you look for a wild paradise with just the minimal infrastructure necessary.

I seriously miss this place. I think I want to go back here and live! I would definitely recommend a week there! The south part of the island is the best! It's quiet, not crowded & bustling or touristy and it's only about 1/2 hr drive or less from the airport & downtown. The rooms are very comfortable & the place is well built. Not fancy, but clean & comfortable & breakfast was lovely. We were there for 3 days in the winter (July) and it was quite empty--only a couple people on the beach. You just walk through the garden (banana tree grove) and you are on Armacão beach, which is so beautiful! You absolutely have to walk down to Matadeiro beach (just south of here.) It's an incredibly beautiful walk (about an hour round trip). This place is just magical! And if you are up you go past Matadeiro beach & hike to Lagoinha do Leste. This hike is one of the best most scenic hikes in the whole world! I loved it! Incredible views from the trail. It took us about 4-5 hours to hike down to Lagoinha & then hike out the short way to Pantano do Sul and take the bus back. Klaus will map it all out for you. He is super helpful, speaks good english & gave us a map & lots of suggestions. The hike was sooo worth it! Best thing we did on the island. I loved Pentane do Sul as well & having dinner on the beach there.
