Bonjouir is such a special place! I spent a week here with a dive group in September, and while the rooms themselves are rustic/simple, you can always expect warm water and a quiet reprieve. The hosts, Annick and Coco Choux, are Teahupoo legends and absolutely lovely to get to know. Homecooked, fresh French/Tahitian meals each day were always a highlight and always filled with stories. If you want a private, tranquil location with access to surf/snorkeling/hiking/waterfalls, loud and lovely Tahitian hospitality, and don't mind a simple accommodation (think camping but with beds, homecooked food, and warm showers), you will find paradise here. Merci / maruuruu Annick et Coco Choux! Our group adored you!

Bonjouir Lodge is a 10 minute boat trip from the end of the road in Teahupoo (the famous surfing site). Rustic cabins and rooms but nice and clean. Be prepared for electricity only from 5 pm to midnight. We wandered around the well kept grounds our first day; took a short hike to a deep pool in the adjoining river the second day and a grueling hike to a lava tube waterfall the third day. The last trip was led by our host, which was a good thing. He and his son are improving that trail. The waterfall was beautiful. ||The beach is black sand with bits of washed up white coral. There is a long dock with a ladder to get to swimming depth water. Very shallow beach. Lots of colorful fish can be seen in the clear water at the end of the dock. ||The sound of the surf out on the reef (some distance away) was really loud and quite soothing.||The owners were very responsive to food requests. We wanted to try breadfruit frites and poisson cru any time we could get it. Dinner largely fish, some caught off the end of the dock and others from neighbors. Local fruit and vegetables. ||There are kayaks but we didn't get around to that in the three days we were there. Great place to be lazy or active.

We stayed only one night at Pension Bonjouir.||||The owners replied late to our second email so we didn't know they come every day 2 times a day (11.30 am and 4.30pm) to pick up people at the boat ramp for 2200 CFP return per person. You need to get one of these rides otherwise they come to pick you up at extra cost. We got a free ride from a very friendly local fisherman as we arrived at 4.45pm ! ||If you park your car at the boat ramp the pension charges you 500 CFP for the parking as they pay someone to watch the cars at night.||||We brought our food and water to cook our own diner and breakfast, but you can eat there ( 3500 CFP per person for the diner and 1500 CFP per person for the breakfast). ||||There are dogs and an old horse which is free to go everywhere on the pension section. Dogs can get a little bit dodgy at night but were friendly otherwise. Keep your food stored all the time otherwise the horse comes to eat it! ||||You can borrow kayaks for free and go for a walk in the bush and to waterfalls. ||||The room was ok, with no mosquito net and the roof is separated from the walls to let the air flow so you get some geckos coming in your room at night...||||Pros: All in all it was a nice stay, relaxing and in touch with the nature. The location is beautiful and you get the feeling of being alone in the island. The owners were very nice with us ( we speak french so that helps for the communication !). They offered us fruits and flowers and drove us to the wave of Teahupoo where we stayed for a while. ||Cons: It's expensive for what you get in terms of room (8000 CFP) and cleanliness. It could be a little bit more looked after and you pay too much for every extra.

Bonjouir is a rustic paradise. Without exaggeration I can say this is the most relaxing and most tropical place I have ever been. The property is right where the jungle meets the ocean which is an extraordinary setting. There’s spectacular hiking to a waterfall, excellent snorkeling nearby, a lovey little beach that’s great to kayak from, and delicious food and hospitality to found from the wonderful owners. Bonjouir is off the beaten path (seriously, you have to take a boat to get there) but so worth the visit if you’re looking to feel the heart of a tropical island and not just stay in some soulless walled-off resort. Please go visit and say hi to the dogs for me!

Only accessible by boat, Bonjouir Lodge Paradise Pension is a must for a French Polynesian local or tourist. A beautiful blend of authentic culture, incredible landscape, adorable bungalows and unsurpassed service truly exceeded my expectations. The hikes to the river and waterfall or the kayak to the hidden cave with a school of dolphins jumping alongside will stay with me forever. The snorkeling off the dock and the delivery of the fresh fish for the evening meal then carried the experience over the top! Thanks Annick and Koshu, the very special owners and hosts, for all you do to maintain and preserve this gem.

Friends brought us to Pension Bonjouir for a few days. What a wonderful escape from the tensions of life. Simple accommodations close to nature make this a special place. We enjoyed fishing out in the waves breaking over the reef, unfortunately didn't catch any fish. Later we went for a hike up the river to a great little swimming hole. The days came to an end with a wonderful meal and plenty of drink.

I live in the US and have been going to the "pension bonjouir" for awhile and I would totally recommend it to anyone who loves nature. This place is gorgeous, and totally looks like paradise to me. There is the sea, the mountains, the river, a waterfall, the "vaipoiri cave", the "pari" (beautiful cliffs ) ... for nature lovers and adventurers this is the best place to go. It's also a really nice place to chill out because you feel so isolated from the world, and so peaceful. ||The owners were really nice, and everytime I go there they welcome me with open arms. The food is also pretty good, local, and fresh. There's just a general warmth to this place that i can't really put down with words. I recommend it!! I'm definetely going back there!

I had the pleasure of staying a few days. What's so special is the tranquility and superb hospitality by the owners. We saw whales, we walked up a river to a water fall, swam in the sea and had a great meal cooked for us in the evening. Don't expect 5-star - it's got character. There was also a little sausage dog called amour. She's a bonus to the friendliness and homliness of the place. Great to hide away and read your book and great to walk around or simply lie in the water - there's also a little pool if you prefer. You can only get to it by boat so check out the two times - 11.30 and 4.30pm. Highly recommend it for a great escape from the bustle of cars and people.
