Stayed here for a Sunday night in August on my way to Olympic Valley from South Lake Tahoe. Had booked beforehand. Hotel was easy to find, but all the parking spots were taken, and the underground lot is a bit tough to get in and out of with street traffic. Luckily, the staff gave me the accessible room which came with its own parking spot. The bathroom was huge, perhaps because it was an accessible room. Nice stay, though a bit on the expensive side for the amenities provided - 140$. No breakfast included, although they did suggest I could get a 10% discount at Rosie's cafe, something I did not avail.

Stopped off at Lake Tahoe as part of our California road trip. This hotel was the perfect location for us in Tahoe. Our room was on one of the upper levels with a beautiful view of the lake - it is literally across the road from the lake itself with good bars and restaurants super close. One morning we took advantage of the great weather and walked to the edge of the lake to watch the sunrise - Mega !!|The hotel is clear about reception times and the lady on reception was super helpful and informative. |Rooms were a decent size and clean.|The one point to note is that generally the hotel is in need of degree of maintenance, mainly on the exterior areas, however having read a few reviews before the trip I was aware of this (what Tripadvisor is for right ?!) - any issues were outweighed by the positives in my view - please see my other reviews which are always balanced ....

Google
Made reservations in advance. I should have gone somewhere else. The rooms where clean, but the bed was hard, the pillows where flat and the heating system made a high-pitched noise. I had to sleep with the bathroom window open and ear buds in all night. I could not change rooms because they were fully booked all weekend. The Inn needs to be renovated from top to bottom. The concrete stairs are crumbling, the heating system needs to be fixed and the rooms need to be refreshed. I was worried the table would break apart when I put my laptop on it.

Google
Very disapointed. We requested 2 bed room only had one bed. They gave us a roll away. Not comfortable at all. Towels left a lot to be desired. Had holes in them .One light on the wall was not connected and hanging from the wall. Toilet seat has paint missing. Lights keep flickering. The lady who checked us in seemed to be disinterested in correcting the reservation errors that they made. No a/c unit. Shopping and eating areas were good

Google
Pics are misleading, no soap is provided in bathroom. Room was not clean, chair was dirty, no ac just small fan, hallway smells funny, carpet was dusty, poor parking situation.

Google
We were on the 3rd floor, the view was good, the hotel location was great! Its near shops, bike rentals & restaurants, we recommend Zas it is lakeside (across the street). For breakfast Sids is a breakfast/lunch bagel shop. And Commons Beach all nearby. The hotel staff is excellent & clean rooms. There is an elevator however sadly there is no longer a hotel pool. Would recommend.

Spent $200 on one night to NOT EVEN STAY THERE. Dropped off all luggage, came back at 10:30pm to getting locked out of our room. No key cards worked. ZERO workers on staff. No one would let us in after calling for hours. Had to stay somewhere else and find a ride there. Would not recommend to anyone.

Google
Great deal! Prime location with views of the lake. Friendly service and room has everything you need. Everything worked. Honestly, a steal. Check-in was smooth. Room was ready. Text/email reminders about check-out (don't need to physically do). Just leave keys in room and leave.

Lod W.

Yelp
Overall fantastic experience! The room is very Clean and nice with amazing view. Staff Truly go above and beyond for your vacation! SHOUT TO FRANKIE WE WILL DEFINITELY BE BACK.

Yelp
My intention for this review is not to complain but to inform. I will start out with the positive which is location. This motel is right across the street from the lake and walking distance to shops and restaurants. This motel is in need of extensive renovations. We were on the lower level and the beds are VERY OLD! We could actually feel the springs through the mattress. I spoke to the lady in the lobby and she said ALL the beds are the same. Half the outlets next to bed do not work. Bathroom window did not lock. Shower shell is stained and cracked. Outside of shower the Sheetrock is cracked and gauged. There are stains on the top sheet. The outlet next to bed is completely out of the wall. Although the weather was nice outside it was very humid and hot inside. Ceiling fan but no AC. We tried to open front window for airflow but the window was stuck. You can hear every movement from the upstairs neighbors. This motel does NOT provide house keeping during your stay.

MariaMia -.

Yelp
Giving 1star for location ONLY! This MOTEL is super old. The rooms are very small, the shower is tiny. The carpet looks like it has NEVER been cleaned! There is no housekeeping. The towels had holes, the pillow cases had stains (brown/red). I don't understand how people give this motel 5 stars?!!. Their website shows nice pictures, nothing close to reality. I will never stay at this place!

Cindy L.

Yelp
Very nice place, across from the lake. We stayed on the 2nd floor could still see the lake. Only downside was the shower, water pressure was bad & hated the bar of soap. Besides that I would stay here again.

Kenny M.

Yelp
The amazing lake view is the reason to stay at this otherwise unremarkable, in-need-of-maintenance two-star motel.

Francis S.

Yelp
This place is okay. I'd give it a 3.5, rounding up. As other reviews have suggested, it's definitely more of a motel than an inn. Parking is plentiful - even on a busy weekend - and there is a "covered" garage, but water was constantly dripping. Not a huge deal to me, but that might bother some people. The room is clean, nothing fancy. Slightly better than your average motel 6. Views are awesome, it's overlooking the lake. Location is great, with lots of places to eat within walking distance. The price may seem expensive for what it is, but compared to all the other options in tahoe it actually is reasonable. I'd stay here again definitely, but it wouldn't be my first choice.

Christina R.

Yelp
I don't think many of the reviews here give pepper tree a fair chance cause I had a genuinely pleasant stay. The staff was so helpful and nice, and very accommodating. Parking is plentiful, the view was AMAZING. I stay at over a couple hotels weekly and it was the best view I've ever seen :) the room wasnt bad. Nothing to complain about really, it was clean and it was a normal room. do I think it's a bit pricey for what it is? Yes. But what can u do.. I paid 220$ on third party booking with discount for a Saturday night stay. ALSO there was something making a noise the WHOLE night I think it was the fridge or microwave or something but I was able to sleep I guess.. also no A/C and when I woke up in the middle of the night it was so hot but I was too tired to get up and open the door or the fan or something so I just slept again. ALSO THERE WAS SOOOO MUCH STATIC I don't know why but we kept getting shocked in the sheets but yea it was a nice stay and I'd stay again.

Amy K.

Yelp
It's Clean the most important thing, it has a view of Lake Tahoe, it's warm, quiet, friendly staff. What more could I ask for? Whoever owns this hotel goes above and beyond. There are coffee mugs and maker in the room. It is decorated with cute bears and country theme. There is a microwave and fridge. The bed and pillows were comfy. Although it was in the 20s and 30s outside, we stayed toasty. Breakfast Is included. It differs from other conTinental breakfasts cuz there are frozen burritos and oikos Greek yogurt. Cost: approx $150 for Friday night

Yelp
Stayed back on 9/30. First off, the hotel sent a text message early in the day to advise of the lobby hours & check in times. Still arrived early & saw the lobby was still closed but we witnessed a Karen in the wild which was entertaining at best She was banging on the lobby door despite the signage & the door being locked. When that didn't work she started banging on a button next to the door. When that didn't work she stomped back to her car. Still in our car we watched as she stalked the front lobby until staff showed up. The poor lady was immediately swarmed by the Karen. Not even 2 minutes later she was banging on the lobby door again. I wouldn't have opened up either. Another lady came out to talk to the Karen. Not long later the Karen stomped off to her car again & sped away. We checked in around 6. Easy check in. Nice front desk lady despite the Karen encounter. Yes, the place is run down & could use some upgrades but you can't beat the location.

Kimberlee M.

Yelp
The lobby was closed until 3 - even then she wouldn't open the door and said we couldn't check in until 4 - I said we had a wedding at 4:30 and she said "too bad - you should have read your email". I didn't get check in information until 10:00pm - too late already got a different hotel. If they don't refund my money this won't be the only place I give them a bad review

Clifton B.

Yelp
Spent a great weekend in Tahoe City. I arrive at the hotel at 2 PM. Lobby is only open from 3 PM to 10 PM. That should have been my warning. After I check in I'm told there will be no room cleaning services. If you need towels or something of that nature, call them. I called at 9 Am it went through there phone service process 3 times. Still no answer. With a closed lobby, how do you check out. Left the cards on dresser and left. Room was neat and clean. However, the mattress was a SPRING MATTRESS from the 1980's. Not comfortable to me. Lots of noisy plumbing issues. It woke we up a few time each night. Definitely not worth the price in my opinion. Parking was first come first serve. If you drive a car, there's an underground parking garage. Not much for bigger vehicles. Will not stay or recommend this hotel to anyone. But, it was clean and had a beautiful view.

Kate M.

Yelp
Not sure if this establishment classifies as inn as I would call it a motel. If judging, it as a motel - clean and small room. Room had all basic amenities needed and super tiny shower

Lanie L.

Yelp
I love finding these cute little hotels that are well kept and such a good value! This snow season has been one for the books, so I HAD to get away one last time to Tahoe for one last snowboarding trip. Instead of going the standard route of SLT and staying near the stateliness, we decided to do a cozier getaway. We went to Boreal & Homewood resorts to snowboard, so we found Pepper Tree Inn as a great options that is close to both resorts. Plus, being right off the lake sealed the deal for us. We booked through Hotels.com, but when we checked in, the manager kindly explained that in the future if we booked through them directly, they will match any online price, plus give us free upgrades! That's a good deal in my opinion. We booked the partial Lake view, so we got the 4th floor. Wow! What a view, I didn't even mind that a few trees were in the way, you can still see all across the lake to the other side! The water sparkled against the bright blue sky, and the lingering snow on top of the mountains gave a great contrast. The room itself is so cute! A [VERY] comfortable King bed with 4 fluffy pillows that supported my sore neck after a long day of boarding. The room came with a small dining table, fridge, microwave, and tv. A desk with a coffeemaker and a closet tucked away in the corner rounded out the main room. The bathroom is nicely renovated and kept its cabin-like charm, but is clean and not outdated. Water gets very hot which I appreciated. Towels are large and soft! I especially appreciated the makeup wipe included with the toiletries, I've never seen that before! Breakfast is served from 7-9am and is pretty decent for continental. They have a waffle station, pastries, bagels, toast, cereal, granola, hard boiled eggs, yogurt, and frozen breakfast burritos. As a vegan, I had enough to eat (the butter was accidentally vegan! nice!). Coffee, tea, juice, and hot cocoa for beverages. We loved how close it is to so many bars and restaurants! We never had to move our car so we got to enjoy our beers during dinner. Overall, we had a very comfortable stay. Only thing is that we thought we would be getting a whirlpool tub, but apparently that's an upgrade you have to pay for. Next time, we will definitely go all in.

Tony J.

Yelp
Everything you read on here is true. No air conditioning, hot Af in the rooms, rat traps on the stairwells, no breakfast, pool is a dirt pit, stains on curtains and bedding, not enough parking, entire place needs updating bad! I would have rather slept on the beach

Jeremy A.

Yelp
No air conditioning. Stairs have crumbling concrete and exposed rebar - unsafe to use. No room cleaning or services of any kind. Noisy. Parking is a challenge. But - it's really close to the lake and restaurants. Working fridge, microwave and clean shower and beds. Probably won't visit again.

Adam M.

Yelp
On a recent trip to Tahoe, I stopped in here for a couple of nights. Listen, I *love* hotels and can be pretty forgiving since I can't imagine all of the upkeep involved...but, also, that's part of the gig? Anyway, we check in and are told we'll be staying on the sixth floor. Here's how the chat goes: "You're on the sixth floor. Stairs are over there. You know the elevator is out?" "Excuse me?" "The elevator is out. You know that, right?" "I do now." "Yeah, it's out." I didn't think it was a big deal, until we had to go up and down them a lot. My bad for being too out of shape (a teen ran up and down the stairs, which happened to be outside of our window, thirty times both days), but also, that should be a priority when you have a hotel with seven floors. I watched older people stop and gasp as hard as I was and felt bad. Oh, also, BE CAREFUL on the stairs. They change width and height constantly, so it felt like walking up and down an MC Escher drawing. I tripped twice and am *catlike* in my walking abilities. There's no AC in the room, which they do list, but they also promised a fan. The fan is a very little Honeywell fan which did *not* cool the room at all (I'll include a photo of the fan from Target's website and say the product rating is WAY too high, but the price is right at $15). I would have set the fan in the window to pull air from the outside, but we were scared into locking the windows by the sign in the room that warned of "always asking for ID before opening the door" and being careful with who's outside for our own safety. We ended up sleeping with nothing on the bed to stay cool enough. The wifi didn't really work the first day and worked the second day, so it's not really reliable. Also, you have to watch an ad to connect, which I don't *think* I've ever seen at a hotel. The place, for being so tall, is very small and narrow. You can hear everything in the building. I had two teens in the room next to me scream-laughing all night/morning, so I didn't sleep a lot. The garbage cans were all stuffed full, so I watched people try to find a place for their trash. One possible place would be all of the trash bags that the staff left folded up in front of each room that I had to walk by on the way to my room. If you're cautious about COVID, like most people, bring your own mugs and cups. In our room, the coffee cups were loose and had coffee spilled on them, which did *not* make me feel safe about the cleaning policies here. Price-wise, I have two charges on my card currently: $350 and $400. I'm waiting to see which one I am charged, but that's the ballpark.

Ayatt A.

Yelp
My boyfriend was playing a show across the street at Hacienda Del Lago and the promoters were kind enough to get us a hotel room at the Pepper Tree Inn. We were welcomed with a warm greeting and made our way up to the room on the 5th floor. My god, the view was absolutely gorgeous. We couldn't believe our eyes. The room it self was clean and cozy. It was a little outdated but no big deal at all. They had everything we needed including a coffee maker with whole beans and grinder. So nice! The continental breakfast was alright, but I'm really not here to complain about free food lol. I would definitely stay here again!

Kate S.

Yelp
The only reason I am giving this place a one star is because it's across from the lake. No AC in the room only heater so we had to turn the thing completely off and open the tiny bathroom window for a little air flow. TV only has three working channels. Elevator is sketchy, stairs and walkway all broken uneven concrete. Lobby barely ever open. No housekeeping. WiFi didn't work. No pool. No breakfast. WORST PART BUGS EVERYWHERE IN ROOM. Spiders and roaches everywhere we killed at least 6 of them and I was left feeling itchy and gross.

Cuong N.

Yelp
great little Inn. place has the best location for a family. beach is across the street with all the fun activities. restaurants all around you. super clean and best price around for your money. we had to leave early because of the storm and they refunded our last day back. hidden gem!

Olivia D.

Yelp
Great stay for the price! Easy check in/out, clean rooms, good parking. Great location with lots of great restaurants and some shopping within walking distance. Recommend for your next trip to Tahoe!

Kevin W.

Yelp
Wonderful little hotel where I had a great experience. I signed up for the Spartan Beast and was looking for a place to stay that wasn't too far away, but within my budget. I ended up searching through my bank to see what they had, before weighing my options. I stumbled across Pepper Tree Inn, and after a couple of reviews on Trip Advisor, Yelp, and Google, I decided to book it. The beautiful pictures ARE accurate. Luckily, I booked ahead of time and was able to secure a spot that was sold out during that busy weekend. The hotel booking includes a simple breakfast. Kindly make sure you can check-in before they close. Although they have special instructions for late check-ins, this minimizes the trouble the staff have to go through to call and reach people.

Tania G.

Yelp
Stayed at this hotel on Sunday 8/23/2020 First off they offer a discount with triple A which is a plus! But!! Don't be scammed I confirmed with the receptionist the price for the room, i signed paperwork stating that the room was 237.15 and I verified with her that that was the final price. She stated yes! She told me that there would be a 25 dollar holding fee for the hotel and I said okay that's fine. She then proceeded with letting us know there was no AC, we said no problem cause I mean what we're we todo? On top of this the bathroom sink was clogged!!! We traveled so far and didn't have anywhere else Togo. I called and spoke to another receptionist to verify what happened and she stated there's nothing todo the price charged was final. I kept asking for a manager and she kept hesitating on giving me any information. Eventually when she did say she'll pass on the message I received a phone call. And all he said was it states on the paper that there is taxes and fees and said we emailed you this confirmed that my email wasn't even correct after I told the original receptionist my email twice! And I have yet to receive anything. I'm sorry but you can't quote someone something and confirm 3 times and then pop up with another price! And then give bad service when asking why we were being charged that. Honestly there was NO view we had room 210, and it wasn't amazing. I would avoid this place if possible customer service IS HORRIBLE!

Vasiliki F.

Yelp
Not happy with the customer service to this place. When I went to check-in, the person at the front desk was rude right away. I had my service dog with me and I was charged a pet fee because there were no rooms that allowed pets available. There was nothing on their site about an extra charge or letting them know I was traveling with a pet ahead of time. Room is super small. Not all the lights work and the room is not well lit. The ONLY good thing this place has it going for themselves is the fact that they are in a great location and close to a lot of restaurants and stores. Not worth the money I spent here though.

Sean M.

Yelp
Amazing find! I'm I glad I finally stayed at this hotel. Me and my fiancé came for a 3-day, 2-night, no kids, weekend getaway. Our view from the 6th floor was worth every penny for the Superior Whirlpool King room. The great service, comfortable bed and gigantic jacuzzi bathtub was even better than I expected. The location is perfect for leaving your car parked and walking to the local shops, restaurants and docks on the lake. We will most definitely be staying here again in the near future.

Silvia C.

Yelp
The star is for the location. This is this biggest piece of junk I've ever stayed in! I'd didn't see anywhere listed they had no AC . DO NOT STAY IN THE SUMMER. My poor family suffered with a rink-a-dink fan. My husband was sweating while sleeping , the baby cried all night uncomfortable my 4 yr old dripping sweat all night and I of course didn't sleep worried for everyone. Elevator out of order just felt disgusting being in there . We almost left in the middle of the night it was SO bad

Tami B.

Yelp
We selected a 2 queen bed room so our 4 year old daughter could have her own bed. Because of this we were on the ground floor and there was NO view. Maybe if we had a view it would have made up for some of the other issuess..... The room is very small and the beds are 2 doubles not 2 queens. The beds are also uncomfortable. If you have any back or hip issues, they won't be good for you. We had a midweek special paying $95/night. If it were any amount over this, I would have definitely felt ripped off. The walls are thin... Our neighbor next to us was loud talking to someone (or maybe on the phone) starting up before 3 am and carrying on until he left at about 6 am our first night. The 2nd night our neoghrbos above us starting arguing and cursing at each other from just after 2am (likely after getting back from the bar closing) until sometime after 5 am. During this time our smoke alarm starting chirping to alert the batteries were about to die. I almost wonder if the office staffed during the night if the neighbors would have been better behaved? The shower is EXTREMELY small. I am a petite woman and felt claustrophobic. It also had a cracked pan and you could feel it was spongy. They definitely need to fix this. The toilet handle is broken also. A $ 5part could fix the handle. The complimentary lotion was partially used by someone else before our stay. There was no ice machine.... Wear socks, the carpet needs shampooing. My daughter's feet were getting black (I kept making her wear socks but you know how kids can be lol) The pluses..... good location! walking distance to lots of shops, restaurants and the Commons Beach. As soon as we walked in it smelled like Pine Sol and seemed clean. Plenty of towels and plush pillows. Dish TV, microwave,, fridge and ceiling fan.

Paul C.

Yelp
This is your basic lodge in Tahoe City, but what's great about it is really the location. Walking distance to the local bars, coffee shops, creameries, Safeway, the lake, river rafting, kayaking, etc.! We found that booking a room online was cheaper than pulling up to the front desk. The room itself was adequate, but our first night there was rough because there were folks partying in the balcony area just above the empty/dirty pool. Keep in mind that you can walk around Tahoe City with an open beer or two! Would I stay at Pepper Tree Inn again? It did the job, but I'd probably look for another option. There's plenty if you plan ahead.

Bartholomew H.

Yelp
If you stay here, make sure you stay on the third floor or higher on the south side of the elevator. It has a million dollar view from the 5th floor. we stayed in what I think is called a queen Lakeview room. It made it worth the stay even though it was a very simple room, ***very bad*** bed and sporadically attended front desk. Although the staff was friendly and cooperative when they were there. Supposedly new ownership as of July 2020, but doesn't look like I've done anything to it yet. Poor - basic hotel though clean. But that view....

Tom D.

Yelp
Just stayed at this motel. Had two rooms and both were spotlessly cleaned. Rooms are small but comfortable and have beautiful lake views. I was pleasantly surprised.

Judy H.

Yelp
Very comfortable room. Queen adjustable temperpedic bed. Very clean and nicely maintained. Will definitely stay here again

J H.

Yelp
Book at your own risk. Outdated and not kept up. Horrible customer service. Beware hidden fees and charges. Not all electrical worked in the room. Good views from high up floors. Not accommodating or flexible. Limited parking. Decent continental breakfast. Overall rude management. Attitude is "where else are you gonna stay in Tahoe city?"

Marcia K.

Yelp
The wedding we attended recommended this hotel and offered a bus to the venue. On check in our first impression was immediately disappointing since the pool appeared to be filled in with mulch. The front desk patron didn't even welcome us when we entered the small office. Firstly, keys didn't work..had to return for new ones..no apologies for the inconvenience. Then TV didn't work. Front desk guy shows up to fix it but spends 1 minute; gives up and gives us new keys for another room. We rush to new room since our ride for dinner has arrived leaving our wedding gift and the invitation paperclipped together on the desk. Next day we're leaving for the wedding and realized card with check & invitation are not in possession. I go down to front desk and ask about if they found it in our old room. He passes me the card and THE MAID OPENED THE CARD LOOKING FOR CASH. Thank goodness we wrote a check but now we have an envelope to the Bride & Groom ripped open by some fleabag. I am livid. Then, we return back from the wedding to find the elevator inoperative so we have to walk up 6 flights of stairs. The next morning we are told someone got stuck in the elevator and emergency vehicles were called in to rescue them out. This place is a travesty of issues left and right. No air conditioning, no pool, half the lights didn't work, employees that are suspect and lacking in customer service skills. Filthy conditions in the stairwell. You couldn't pay me to stay there again. And at $300 a night, I truly feel ripped off. Shame on you, Peppertree Inn.

McCheffin M.

Yelp
Worst place I've ever stayed. It is NOTHING like the photos. To start, the guy at the front desk, wearing a scary smiling ape mask I must say, was unkempt with very long dirty fingernails and unprofessional. He took my card, ran it for the stay and an unknown deposit amount, tossed my room keys on the counter, and sat back down in front of his computer without saying a word. Well, except "yep" in response to my thank you. The property itself was filthy. Old carpeting throughout with rat traps?? and overall dirt, lint, and whatever else. The building is falling apart. There is no beautiful shining deck with umbrellas and breakfast. I walked in my room and it was about 90 degrees. No a/c and only ventilation would be to keep my door wide open. There was a ceiling fan however that just circulated hot air. Yay! The bathroom window sealed shut so no cross breeze, and also no fan in that room for steam. The dark green carpet still showed stains. There were holes in the bedding, old towels, bugs on top of the microwave, and dirt/dust everywhere. It was simply dark and dreary. I wanted to check right out the day I got there, but I had already paid for the 2 night stay so I just stayed and dealt with it. Would never recommend this place or ever stay here again. Perhaps under new ownership and an entire overhaul. Be forewarned...

Kevin W.

Yelp
Well...I hate giving two-stars, but in this case it was well-earned. Let me start with the pros (it's a short list): - The lady at the front, I believe her name is Erin, was super nice. - Besides the weak coffee, the breakfast was pretty good. - For what they have to work with, the housecleaning people keep the rooms pretty clean. Ok...now the cons: - They are right on the road and the noise at night is terrible. Good luck sleeping. Garbage trucks and snow plows going off at 4am. - Parking is very limited. We are here in winter when the crowds aren't high and had to park two blocks away. Can't imagine what summer looks like. - Room walls are extremely thin. You can hear what people are saying and they are just talking in a normal voice. - Rooms are outdated, wall coverings peeling, paint is coming off and the bathrooms is extremely small. In the end, we tried to cut our losses and go to a different place. We paid for three nights and their policy is: we don't give refunds. I get it, we paid for it, but the funny thing is that the young lady at the desk had a hand written contact note pre-prepared, for Billy. Evidently, for Billy this is a common request. If you have to have a place to crash for the night, you don't care about sleeping, and you don't have any other options, then this is your place. However, there are tons of other options available here, just use Yelp and it will point you to some good ones. After writing this, I've decided two-stars is way too generous. One star it is.

Isaiah R.

Yelp
No AC, No Pool and most of the outlets next to the bed doesnt work. Overpriced hotel $300 for 3 people only for one night

Joel S.

Yelp
Absolutely horrible experience on all levels. Elevator broken, pool not filled and looks horrid. Customer service was absolutely horrible on all levels. Refrigerator didn't work. Staff entered room and moved personal items around without consent, in fact where told not to. To there credit we did complain about the electrical system, so they might have to double check to ensure safety. At the same time, there is ZERO reason to move pillows and person clothes around during this check. I don't know a reason why you should have a refrigerator plugged to a microwave to an extension chord. When communication with the manager was had, he was rude, condenscending and flat out an asshole. During a pandemic I would assume they would be more cautious and have better communication. This place has been the most unprofessional hotel I have ever heard of. Being in a world renowned location I expected more. I would highly discourage anyone from staying at this establishment for all the reason stated above.

Yelp
Charming motel in the middle of Tahoe City. We were able to walk everywhere and there were great restaurants all around us. The beach is across the street. The room was clean, the water pressure so so. The parking plentiful. We will definitely stay there again.

Yelp
Growing up in Tahoe City, this was considered one of them main hotels in Tahoe City. This Labor Day weekend we stayed here and had a great experience. It is conveniently located in the heart of Tahoe City and has free parking. The hotel is definitely a little older/rustic but it goes with the Tahoe theme. The room was clean and the view was outstanding. My reasoning for not giving five stars is because of the pillows. We had a king size bed with 5 mini/square pillows. 5 mini/ square pillows was not conducive to comfortable sleeping so I recommend bringing your own pillow.

Yelp
Exactly what we needed! My fiance and I were looking for a place to stay for our weekend getaway. We weren't looking for a fancy place because we planned on hiking, eating/drinking out and being outdoors for most of our stay. Pepper Tree was perfect! Warm, cozy, quiet, and clean room. Good service. Most importantly, it was right across the street from the water and all these cute cafes and restaurants! We'll be back again next time we visit Tahoe City!

Yelp
Elevator broken after as they checked us in said it's just above the parking lot. They put us at the 7th floor and refused to give us a room we didn't have to walk up 7 flights with all our things. Rude guy working July 27, at 6pm . Spend more for another place .

Yelp
I was led to believe this hotel had great amenities and unfortunately I was very let down. No AC with 90 degree weather and I have a 3 month old. Band blaring thru the late night. Pool was not available. Screen busted off bathroom window allowing mosquitoes in. Just was not worth the money

Yelp
Arrived after a long day of hiking. Thankfully check in was easy and fast. The front desk staff was friendly as well. The pool was empty, which I did not know when booking. It was unseasonably cold so I may not have swam anyways but having an out of service pool in June should be something the guests are made aware of ahead of time. The room appeared clean enough, but once the sun came in there was so much illuminated dust in the air. The rooms have no ac which usually wouldn't be an issue as tahoe doesn't get too hot but being on the 7th floor made for a fairly warm stay. Thankfully the room had a small fan I paired with an open window. The bar next door is very noisy pretty much non stop, even in the morning. But this is a weekend stay in a heavy tourist area so that is to be expected and wasn't an issue for me. Beautiful view of the lake...and of the roof repair taking place on the parking area. Again not really a big issue but I would suggest starting the repairs after check out. Guests trying to sleep in probably weren't too happy about the noise of the power tools. All in all if this hotel were in a different location I would have given it a lower rating, but being right across from the lake just can't be beat. You are definitely paying for the location and not the accommodations with this one.

Yelp
This hotel is the basics done well. Not fancy shmancy by any means but clean and comfy. Communicating with them via text was seamless, we checked in early using lock boxes mounted by the front desk for contactless key retrieval. The water is hot for a long shower. The heaters are strong, and the views are great. Again, this is the basics in the best location. Right across from Tahoe Dave's and walking distance to restaurants shopping and bars, and of course the lake/mountains.

Yelp
I just got back from a meeting with the owner Bill The night before I had pulled into the underground parking lot. The sign was clearly marked 6'6" clearance. I know that my 4runner rides 6'1" off the ground. My roof rack grazed the roof as it entered the parking structure. Not a lot of damage but something I thought I should bring to the attention of management. Initially, Bill seemed like he wanted to help. He was going to watch me pull out and tell me to stop if it look like it was going to hit so that I could take air out of my tires. When he came down he had a measuring tape and his maintenance guy with him. They started measuring the entrance to the garage door. At its lowest point it is about 6'1". He began arguing with me over the height and I told him that I wasn't looking for him to pay for the damage I was just trying to make him aware that his sign was in accurate so that he didn't have any problems in the future. At the point, things went south in a hurry. Bill called me an idiot and told me that he could see the games that I was playing with him. I asked him to slow down and take a breath because it wasn't my intention to extort money or anything from him but simply to make him aware of the issue and employ his assistance in making sure that my vehicle did not hit again. He continued with the verbal assault the entire time. I will never stay in this place again nor will I recommend anybody I know stay in this place again. The thought that somebody that unstable is responsible for every facets of maintaining the property is a scary concept. On a positive note, the rooms have beautiful views of Lake Tahoe and they are clean.

Yelp
I would not recommend this anymore. Stayed there previously and it was ok, but had a very bad experience this week. Heater barely worked and was very noisy all night long so couldn't sleep, handle on toilet was broken off and had to flush manually, problem with jacuzzi tub, unfriendly front desk service. Sent them my concerns and they made excuses about it being old, and that I would probably be happier at a newer hotel. No maintenance person on staff overnight if a problem occurs. Breakfast very lacking in quality and options. In my opinion there are Much better options available. Sad to see a place go downhill.

Yelp
So disappointed with this hotel and hotels.com My husband booked a (non refundable) 1 night stay with this hotel, well things happen and emergencies happen, my son is sick, ear infection, fever, runny nose... you name it. I've been on the phone trying to talk to someone to help me and NO ONE will help me or understand what I am going through. I've been going to this hotel for YEARS and NEVER encountered this problem. Also, I asked for the manager or owner, and all they gave me was an email, and that they're never on the property. I'm sorry but this is not how you run a business, and not being understanding when something comes up, also I even mentioned getting a doctors certificate and they still refused. Shame on you peppertree, things happen and people are not perfect. Maybe try being a little more empathetic when things happen like this, it's unfortunate that the honest people always have to pay the price for the dishonest people that do this and ruin it for us HONEST people.

Yelp
This place's only redeeming quality is the view from the top two floors. If you're not on the top two floors, forget about it. In general this place is kind of a dump. There was no one here to check us in for 15 minutes. When the front desk person finally showed up he was extremely rude. There was what looked like hot coco spilt all over the elevator. There were no face/hand towels, only two bath towels. Half of the lamps had no light bulbs. There was someone's left over ice cream left in our freezer (so they did not clean well). And the coffee machine is broken. We were glad to have a bed and a warm shower but besides that we were very unimpressed.
