We visited Cairns to celebrate our 12th wedding anniversary and, based on recommendations that Palm Cove would offer a quiet and relaxing atmosphere, we decided to move from a hotel in the city to one here. Sadly, our expectations were not met.
The hotel felt busy and noisy throughout the day. The central pool was filled with children and even some adults throwing balls around, making it difficult to simply sit by the loungers and enjoy a peaceful conversation. Many guests also left their belongings on the beach chairs for hours without using them, leaving little space for others.
What made the stay even more frustrating was the lack of basic service. Our only request—a travel adapter—was dismissed with a blunt “We don’t have any,” delivered without the slightest concern. To add to that, the Wi-Fi did not work, and the hotel offered no compensation of any kind.
We still have one more night here, and while we truly love Australia—this being our second visit—our experience in Palm Cove has been quite disappointing.
However, the staff were all very kind and attentive. The gentleman at the concierge desk kindly called the restaurant on our behalf to inquire about a reservation and offered us helpful information with great courtesy. The two ladies at the reception desk also assisted us in arranging an early check-in, and as soon as our room was ready, they personally came to the pool to let us know.
(It’s not just the Wi-Fi, when the manager’s like this, no wonder the service is too.)
