Peppers Gallery Hotel (Canberra, Australian Capital Territory) Hotel Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Canberra, though roughly midway between Sydney and Melbourne, sees but a fraction of the tourist traffic — it’s a purpose-built inland capital, like Madrid without the history or Brasilia without the concrete. But in Peppers Gallery Hotel, Canberra has got itself a high-end boutique hotel that wouldn’t look out of place in either of the neighboring seaside cities." - Tablet Hotels

Fantastic budget priced hotel… under $150 for New Year’s Eve , located 15 minutes stroll to the lake, rooms modern , lovely and clean , bed comfortable , no frills but great price .staff lovely and hassle free stay. No restaurant onsite but do have a bar and offer room service . Parking overpriced and off site .Wilsons parking was actually cheaper and closer but didn’t notice until leaving.

My room was well appointed and had great light and a spacious bathroom. The staff were accommodating and friendly with great service in the bar and restaurant as well. The heritage part of the building does lend itself to being a bit of a 'rabbit warren' of sorts with corridors, levels and numbers not always making sense - be sure to let them know if stairs are not a possibility for you with or without your luggage. Recommended stay with some great sustainability options in place.

The hotel itself feels old, tired, and in need of serious refurbishment. Unfortunately, the on-site restaurant was just as underwhelming. The experience was made worse by the manager’s attitude. When I placed my order, I asked for a glass of orange juice. I could not see the buffet as it is hidden behind a wall, so I had no way of knowing it was self-serve. Instead of simply explaining that, the manager brusquely pointed me in the general direction of the buffet. Moments later, the next couple walked in. He proactively asked them if they would like orange juice, they said yes, and he personally went to the buffet and fetched it for them. I want to be very clear that I had no issue getting my own drink. The issue was the obvious contrast in how I was treated versus how they were treated. Things went downhill further when I presented my Accor Explorer card. He visibly rolled his eyes and behaved as though my membership was a personal inconvenience, which is completely unprofessional. I will not be returning. The only positive was the reception staff, who were genuinely friendly and very helpful when I realised I had left something behind.

Choosing Peppers was only because we had read that the original building was built to accommodate VIP guests arriving to Canberra for the grand opening of the first Parliament house. That interested us. We aren’t disappointed by our choice, but the hotel did not call us to return. |It felt a bit ‘homely’, yet that probably isn’t the vibe they are aiming for. It might have been ‘arty’ 20+ years ago when they obviously did an art hotel type renovation, but now, decor wise, it seems a bit ‘off’ - dated and clumsy feeling. We certainly hope never to encounter such awful wall paper again … on the roof of our room !!!!??? Weird. ||The good: espresso cups in the room alongside the coffee machine - a detail that 9/10 hotels overlook when they supply only big cups or mugs. So thank you! A decent bath. Thank you again! Importantly, it is a good location and the ‘precinct’ feels good, like you can sort of imagine living there. Onsite parking, if booked with your room, is great - convenient and secure. ||The bad: the music pumping out from the lounge area (where the piano is) was so loud in morning!!!! Completely ridiculous. |The room had an impossibly heavy blind on the window that without my husband I absolutely would not have been able to roll up. The light switches are seriously scratched up - perhaps replace and choose different ones! And the step from the bathroom into the bedroom was/is dangerous - it needs an ‘indicator’ or just a small ramp to join the ‘rooms’ better so you don’t continually stub your toes. ||We arrived back to our room in the afternoon to find there’d been no servicing and the receptionist told us we’d chosen a rate without servicing. We would not have done so voluntarily but we accept we must not have read the fine print. But how hard is it to remind guests at check in that they won’t have their towels changed or beds made, so they are conscious of it. The receptionist was understanding and swift to bring us some new towels. | |Finally, if you receive a free drink voucher do not ‘spend’ it on a glass of bubbles from the bar - the house bubbles are awful. Get a coffee or tea!!

Peppers is an outstanding hotel offering an excellent location and high-quality service. The property is aesthetically pleasing, and the breakfast options are well-prepared and varied. I would particularly like to commend Holly at reception for her exceptional professionalism. She efficiently resolved maintenance issues and promptly arranged a room change, demonstrating a level of service that is truly exceptional. Overall, a highly enjoyable and well-managed stay.

This hotel would benefit from renovation, as the rooms appear dated and in need of improvement. The overall service could also be enhanced. In the restaurant, the manager seemed to treat guests differently, which gave the impression that some people were less welcome than others, despite everyone being paying customers. This was quite disappointing and should be addressed.

What a lovely place to stay. The location is peaceful and quiet, yet still close to everything you need. The bed was nice & comfortable, and the amenities were excellent. I’ll definitely be making Peppers my go-to whenever I’m in Canberra.

Yelp
Loved it, from the welcome at the front desk , to the minute I walked into my room, just loved it, was just what I needed for a 2 day business trip. The rooms are a good size for one, the bed is to die for, just melted into it, it was so good first morning I slept in, I don't sleep in so I must have been comfortable all night, get the $14 bacon and eggs , was the better of the 2 choices, same spot for dinner 2 nights running , menus need to be up dated, mine was n 2 bits ripped down the middle but that's no big guy, the food is really good, the staff are brilliant, would I stay there again, yes, without arguments But the 1960s wallpaper needs to go from the ceilings in the rooms, and a easier remote control for a old fart like me lol , but the showers made up for everything,,,, Only thing against it was lack of power points and light in hallways

Yelp
This hotel is quite nice. I arrived around 4pm on a Saturday and the very, very friendly receptionist got me situated immediately. She was even able to turn my Australian coins in to larger denominations (about $11, not much), which was great. Awesome service by her! My room was not large, but was certainly comfortable. It had all of the standard comforts - good sized bed, desk, decently sized TV with good channel selection. The bathroom was quite large, and the shower was heavenly. On a cool winter visit, this was a big plus. Also, free WiFi that was fast and reliable! No view to speak of, though - I looked across a courtyard to another building. So be it. Location wise, you're less than 10 minutes walk from the bars and restaurants of London Circle, at most. You're right off of a great path for running/biking/walking. There are a few cafes in the area, and they use one of them (A. Baker) for breakfast. If breakfast is included, you'll get a special menu at A. Baker with 5 or so choices, plus coffee/tea/juice. All of the choices tend to be pretty inventive, so if you're looking for a simple breakfast I might recommend looking elsewhere. But it was good. The in-house restaurant, Bicicletta, is okay - not great, not bad. With tons of other choices nearby, it's worth skipping. I would certainly stay at the Peppers Gallery hotel again when in Canberra.

Yelp
This hotel is clean and feels like it has been recently remodeled, even if it still has some quirks that perhaps are part of the Canberra retro look. A DVD player in the room? bathrooms that are stylish but not functional? It is worth the stay if you find a good deal and the staff are nice and friendly. But I really wonder who in their right mind contracted the interior designer in this new millennium.

Yelp
Small but luxurious rooms. Amazing bed and a huge shower head made our stay fantastic. We had brilliant service from Shae (hope that's her name as my wife want sure) who was friendly and super helpful we only stayed 1 night (25/9/16) but will hopefully come back soon

Yelp
Location not the best unless you are driving or hiring a bike - hike to the buses or a store of any kind. Canberra is spread out ... way out. Super coffee place next door and the Pepper food and staff is top rate, but no bargain. The hotel should be studied by all design students to show why the basics are so important. Whom ever did the remodel and interior design slept thru the first year - especially the part about Form Follows Function. The intended use of a hotel end product is to provide a home-away-from-home for paying travelers. It should NOT be first a canvas for artistic or interior design fantasy. Make it work first, then have a go at artistic flare. There are thousands of hotels to observe without experimenting. Allow me ... Light switches should be visible from the place one needs to light. Doors should open out of the way - even if cute cupboard styles look arty - and should not prevent turning on the light for the room you open the door to enter. Shower controls should be close to the shower head so that adjustments can be made during the same hour you take your shower. Hip door-less showers are great in Mexico or Morocco - but in a humid area they just pump more steam into the living space. Black dark halls and stairwells do nothing to help your clientele find their way. Furnishings need to fit into the space allotted for them regardless of how hip they look. A desk without an electrical outlet at hand is useless in this century - or the next. Phones placed in the corner behind the bed are not useful unless in that bed. Lights placed in the middle of a mirror prevent the mirror from performing its intended function unless serving as an art piece replicating being a deer in the headlights. Toilet paper is used by one sitting on the loo - test the location prior to installation. But the beds are great, room 211 at least was stone quiet. The towels magnificent - if only there was a place to hang them to dry.
