Perak Cave Temple

My excitement levels were really high coming here as earlier I hired a Grab to take me on a Chinese cave temple expedition round Ipoh (which was to be my highlight of the town). This was the first temple the taxi driver took me to. Immediately entering the drive I was impressed with the large limestone karsk towering above me. Infront, up a flight of steps, stands a beautiful Chinese pagoda entrance. Once inside the wow factor begins. Infront of you stands an impressive sitting golden coloured Buddha, surrounded by impressive cave formations and a colourful murals. The painter of the numerous lovely murals of deities was truly very talented. As you would expect there's a whole pantheon of Chinese protector deity statues scattered throughout (the fat golden smiling Buddha a particular fav) as well as different passages to explore. All tremendous fun! And the cost to your wallet? Absolutely zero ringgit. What's not to like? Btw, within one of the passages there's a ridiculously long flight of steps to a viewing platform which I've read rewards you, if you haven't died of a heart attack, of stunning vistas of Ipoh.

The atmosphere inside was serene. No entrance fee. U can purchase incense sticks and candles for prayers. The cave and the surrounding was so clean and quiet. Wheelchair access available, just that u have to push up to the cave quite far. They also have staircase. Public toilet available aswell.

Visited Perak Cave Temple during my trip to Ipoh, and it truly lived up to its reputation as one of the most iconic and historical cave temples in Perak. One of the best things here is that entrance is free, and even parking is free, which is rare for such a popular attraction. It makes the visit feel even more welcoming for both locals and tourists. For those who love a bit of adventure, the temple also has an additional hiking path that leads all the way up to the peak. The trail can be quite challenging because the steps have different heights and irregular gaps, so some caution is needed. But once you reach the top, you’ll be rewarded with a beautiful full view of Ipoh — a peaceful moment that makes the climb worthwhile. Overall, Perak Cave Temple is a must-visit attraction in Ipoh. Whether you enjoy cultural sites, spiritual places, natural caves, or scenic hikes, this temple offers a bit of everything. I would say this is one of the best Buddhist temples in Ipoh. The moment you enter, you can feel a peaceful atmosphere and very positive vibrations. It’s a wonderful place to calm your mind, pray, and relax from the busy city life. The temple also has many beautiful statues, each with its own unique design and meaning. The surroundings are clean and well-maintained, making it a comfortable place to walk around and take in the spiritual environment. Overall, it’s a meaningful and serene place to visit, whether you’re seeking peace, blessings, or simply a quiet moment.

The cave itself is impressive, with stunning limestone formations and intricate Buddhist statues and murals. The atmosphere is calm and spiritual, making it a great spot to reflect and relax. You can also climb up to the viewpoint for a lovely panoramic view of Ipoh—definitely worth the effort. The temple may not be very modern, but its charm lies in its natural beauty and serene energy. Perak Cave Temple is a fascinating blend of nature and spirituality, with an incredible temple built right into the cliff face. Inside, the cave opens into a warren of shrines, statues, and murals that stretch deep into the rock, creating a truly atmospheric experience. The energetic hike up the well-maintained steps to the top was equally impressive, offering sweeping views of Ipoh and the surrounding limestone hills. However, visitors should be cautious at the summit as the monkeys can be cheeky and bold, especially if you’re carrying food. Overall, it’s a memorable and rewarding visit that balances cultural heritage with natural beauty.

It was easy to get there using the grab from the city. It costs around 15RM. The temple was located in the countryside so there was nothing near there. You can enjoy the temple in the cave without a fee. You can also enjoy the view of the top and can see the whole Ipoh city but it was not huge than I expected. If you visit Ipoh, you have to visit here to enjoy the cave temple and many monkeys.

I thought this place was amazing. There are may cave temples to visit while in Penang, but this one is one of the larger ones. Well worth a visit to she the various shrines within the temple itself. It’s a nice free attraction to visit.
