Perak Museum

19/10/2025 First visit after having our brekkie at a nearby, famous stall. I didn't know we needed to pay + the fee was reasonably cheap for the price of your experience! Unfortunately, it was 💯 CASH 😅 The museum was huge + has 2 floors altogether where most of the exhibitions were located at the ground floor. Similar to other tourist attraction places, visitors gotta take a photo at its dedicated wallpaper. During our visit, it was less crowded (as we came early), the weather was nice + it was having additional exhibition related to dragon. To sum up: - Need to pay to enter the museum (RM 2 for Malaysian adults) + NO CASHLESS. Please opt for cashless for convenience of others 😭 - Has limited parking lot - Great experiences as it encompassed of (land + sea) animals, Perak cultures, traditional outfits, prehistoric artefacts, exposure to Perak indigenous tribes + cultures. - Visitors could see replica of 60's sculptures outdoor. - There was only stairs to get to the second floor. Hence, golden-aged visitors would have difficulty to climb up the stairs. - There was a stall after exiting the museum. However, during our visit, I was unsure it was open / not - The ladies toilets were clean - Kids could enjoy themselves at the playground if the weather permitted - Hope the museum could restock their fridge magnet as it was sold out 😭 Overall, recommended spot to visit. Hope the museum management will opt for CASHLESS payment

RM2.00 for Adult Admission, RM1.00 for Child Entry — easily one of the cheapest stops you can make while touring Perak. If you’re moving around Perak, the Perak Museum is one of those places that really should be on the list. It’s not a massive museum that drains your legs and patience, but sized just right for a relaxed visit while still learning something along the way. The exhibits cover a wide range of Malaysian history and culture. From traditional ceremonies and food customs to animal skeletons and wildlife displays, there’s enough variety to keep things interesting without feeling overwhelming. One section that stood out was the glimpse into kampung life from long ago — river living, sampan building, and carved tools that once doubled as daily survival gear. My personal favourite, though, was the display of old vehicles. Seeing classic jeeps, Rolls-Royce cars, and even the old “Kereta Kuda” up close gave the visit a nice nostalgic twist and broke up the usual museum flow. Despite being around for many years in Taiping, the museum is still well maintained, organised, and clean. It’s an easy, affordable stop that fits nicely into a Perak itinerary — educational without trying too hard, and definitely worth an hour or two of your time.

The Perak Museum is a fantastic stop, not just for the history but for the architecture. The white colonial building with its Moorish design is so nice against the blue sky and makes for a great backdrop. The outdoor exhibits are incredibly photogenic, especially the vintage cars, the black fighter jet, and the old Perak State Railway carriage. Everything is well-maintained and clean. If you enjoy capturing historical machinery and classic architecture, this is a must-visit spot in Taiping.

What a world class museum set in a beautiful historic building, with a stunning backdrop of mist covered limestone mountains, incongruously opposite a prison! Set aside at least a couple of hours here as the collection is superb, covering topics about the importance of dragon iconography in SE Asia, a large taxidermy natural history gallery covering practically every animal found in the region (displayed beautifully in their natural environments), the crafts, skills and culture of Perak to the upper floor focusing on the minority group Orang Asli. Each room is tastefully decorated, fully aircon and modern, with world class displays and information boards (dual Malaysian/Eng)—the taxidermy room even plays sounds of the animals in their natural habitat making you feel you've been transported to their environment. At only RM5 (less than £1) ringgit to enter, a very comfortable set of buildings to explore and friendly staff (there's also a little cafe serving hot/cold drinks) you won't be disappointed if you visit.

For a Malaysian Citizen, this Museum ticket of RM2 per person is well worth spent. The building and display cupboard itself is already a display itself, since it started operation as Museum from 1886. The internal and external displays are well kept. Properly featured. The collections of cannons, transportations, artifacts, are varied and informative.

The best natural museum in Malaysia! The displays are well curated, and every single artifact is clearly labeled with its historical context. Highly recommended for anyone interested in learning about wildlife species and the overall development of humanity in this region

The ticket price is only rm2 for adults. They accept cash only. So, prepared cash before you come here. No video recording allowed. But you can take photos. I went there on weekend and it opened as usual. A lot of tourists and school students came here for a visit too.

Today, we visited Muzium Perak in Taiping , the oldest museum in Malaysia, founded back in 1883. It’s packed with fascinating history, from Perak’s royal heritage and archaeology to traditional culture, wildlife, and colonial-era artifacts.
