22 Free (Or Cheap) Things to Do in Reykjavik in 2025

"I explored Perlan’s dome — home to Iceland’s largest nature museum, an ice cave and a planetarium — and enjoyed the views from the dome; you can pay 890 ISK for the 360° Observation Deck or buy food/drinks in the restaurant/café to enjoy the view, while full admission to the complex is 4,990 ISK." - Matthew Kepnes

Great place to spend a few hours learning more about this fabulous country!!! The exhibits are very nice. The lava and glacier exhibits are fun! The restaurant has delicious food and the dining area rotates slowly! The views from the observation deck are breathtakingly beautiful. Love from Kentucky! Get tickets early!!!

Very nice museum with a variety of exhibits. The ice cave was interesting and up close to a volcano was amazing. Good way to spend a few hours in the city.

Worth a visit, with some highlights and some meh sections, with underwhelming indications/navigation. The videos/shows are actually quite impressive and elaborate, and not that long. The ice cave is a super nice touch, but it’s a bit of a pity you don’t hear about it sufficiently before entering the museum (otherwise we would have brought extra jackets for the -15degrees inside…).

Worth the wait and price with this impressive museum. The staff were very friendly and what you get with the ticket is amazing. The Aurora Borealis and the erupting volcano clips were awesome to start out with. The rest of the geological history was fun to learn about and to interact with. I was super impressed with their ice cave exhibit. It was literally ice caves with some parts with volcanic ash inside, which was awesome. Overall, highly recommend checking this museum out!

A wonderful quiet evening visit on a Wednesday. Got to browse the galleries, sit through the video shows, and explore the ice cave in relative peace and quiet. Incredible views from the observation deck around the top. Walked on foot from the town centre.

Great visit. Lots of staff to help you on arrival and as you go through the museum. Gave us good suggestions to make our day flow. We loved the Volcano show and the Aurora show - really well put together. The ice cave was fun too. The exhibits were interesting and interactive. The views from the observation deck were very good. We really enjoyed the day and would recommend a visit.

Interesting place for all ages. Family friendly. I especially liked the Volcano experience and movie. They have a new version that is a 360 experience that was great. Ice cave was a welcome break from the heat. And the Northern Lights show was nice as well, although be careful, it is not hard to fall asleep to the music of rhe show. Very tranquil and soothing. On the 4th floor is a nice little walkway that circles all the way around the building. You can see for miles in any direction there. Ice cream Cafe and food café both open around 12, but it was mentioned that it may change hours seasonally so call ahead.

Perlan is incredible. The exhibits are well laid out and informative. I enjoyed the ice tunnel. The planetarium show about the Northern Lights was really well done. The movie about Iceland's last volcanic eruption in 2021 was really interesting. The 360 degree view from the top floor is stunning. The staff was friendly and helpful. I walked right with a ticket I purchased online the night before. I really enjoyed my visit to Perlan.
