Perle Oban Hotel (Oban, UK) 6 Verified Reviews | Tablet Hotels

"Oban, on the west coast of Scotland, found fame in the Victorian era as a stop on the way to the Hebrides, where travelers would pause at the end of the rail line before boarding a ship for the Outer Hebrides. But the unofficial capital of the West Highlands has plenty to recommend it as a destination — if it’s dramatic landscapes and seascapes that you’re after, you’re in the right place. And in the Perle Oban Hotel, it’s got the most unexpected thing: a totally modern luxury boutique hotel." - Tablet Hotels

Stayed here one night back in October. As stated by others, super convenient to public transport. We reserved the room with a sea view and it was splendidly appointed. Room was clean and quiet. Bed was comfortable as well. We opted for the breakfast with our stay and were wowed by the beauty of the dining facility. The food was delicious as well, large portion sizes too. Only 'issue' was the repair on the front door to the lobby, requiring residents to use the side door. No big deal for us, and I am assuming it was remedied by now. Hoping to book another night soon.

We have just spent 3 nights bed and breakfast here. Three nights for two discount applied. Our room overlooked the harbour, it was spotless, quality linen and towels, comfortable bed, great TV and housekeeping. All the staff were polite and helpful. It's a fantastic hotel, breakfast was excellent and a great location. Would highly recommend.

What a joke on “luxury”. I chose this place for its spa initially - booked a massage and afternoon tea for my birthday. Came with the whole family. Our room was gorgeous and the hotel itself very beautiful but wow! The service needs a makeover. Reception staff forgot to book my massage. I was lucky and called in advance and they scrambled to find a masseuse last minute for a later appointment. The massage was great but the “spa” was underwhelming. At dinner we waited over an hour for my son’s chicken tenders and chips. Server had clearly forgotten them and his drink but instead of being honest said “they’re just coming out of the frier now”. Husband and I had already finished our starter and entrees. Tenders arrive super spicy - not edible for a 5 year old. “Oysters with mignonette” came with just a lemon wedge, chef had run out of vinegar and tomato mozzarella salad had no cheese as again, chefs had run out. Breakfast was sad: avocado toast = weird green smoosh on soggy toast. The concierge and servers also seem to work incredibly long shifts: we kept seeing the same people at work. When do they rest?! Overall, I would only recommend this hotel for its location and room views. No love, no soul, no attention to detail.

As locals I use the Perle quite a lot and as a tour company we have in the past placed business here. The location is decent opposite the Ferry Terminal, Railway Pier & Taxi Rank (unless you're a light sleeper and it's a weekend , when the noise and craziness happens around midnight). The inside is also nice and comfortable and they recently relaunched the Brasserie which is a nice airy space for dinner (although I've never eaten there). The rooms are also ok but could be better given the hotels 4 star status. Little things like having no fridges in suites and there's a lack of local Scottish design / fabrics. Perhaps the Indian owners could consider that next time they invest in the rooms. My biggest issue with Perle, Oban is the service levels. I've had some very poor experiences here (yet I keep persisting as they've got WiFi and lounge space). Last week I sat in the lounge bar for almost 90 mins and no member of staff engaged with me or offered to make a drink or if I wanted to order anything. There were 2 staff behind the bar and too busy chatting and not actually being directed by anyone to keep the place clean and offer actual 4 star service. There were crisps all under my chair and dirty tables from earlier but these remained as they were. Shortly before I was leave I counted 5 staff in the area (including a mgr ?) and they were also too busy to actually focus on their guests. Personslly I think I prefer Roxy's cafe for the staff , atmosphere a d quality of offering. The Perle needs an enthusiastic leadership team who support and direct the team to deliver great hospitality. It seems unless you go up to the bar and pay for a drink there and then that the hotel operates a 3 star experience. Overall ... nice public spaces very average 3 star service.

On a positive note, the Perle is well situated for exploring Oban or catching the CalMac ferry to nearby islands. The food in the restaurant was good and the dining team were excellent. |However my friends and I both had tiny rooms with unpleasant views. Loud music from the street meant getting to sleep was tricky on our second night. There was a large gap under my door that let in bright light from the corridor and needed blocking with a towel. |The reception service was mixed - some of the team were warm and friendly but one individual came across as not welcoming customer contact. |On the first day there was an issue with strong cigarette smoke in the hotel which affected my room due to the gap at the bottom of the door. Whilst the team agreed it was unacceptable they told me there was nothing they could do. |The following morning there was a flood on the first floor which caused water to pour through the ceiling into the dining room. The restaurant team handled this very well despite being under pressure during the busy breakfast period. |Whilst there are some good points to the hotel, many aspects left a lot to be desired and I am surprised it is rated as luxury. The £425 room only for one person for two nights was very poor value.

The hotel is perfectly located, incredibly close to the train station and lots of restaurants and pubs. The staff were helpful and friendly. Breakfast was very good, perhaps the best of all during our Scotland vacation. The building is old so the floors were not perfectly flat, but that added to the charm.

Lovely hotel. The staff was friendly and helpful. The rooms were quite nice. The breakfast was delicious. The location cannot be beat - across the street from the train station and in the middle of the tourist area. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Perle Oban has a perfect location, as it's a 2 min walk away from the train station and everything you would want to do in town is less than a 5 min walk away. Checking in was very easy and the front desk staff was extremely friendly and hospitable. They made sure to give us a lot of information and made it easy to book breakfasts in the morning (which even though it came with our room, we only ate 1 out of the 2 times). Breakfast is good but they don't replenish the continental portion if you come later in the day, FYI. The room was gorgeous and fairly clean, with the exception of a few details. I think it's odd hotels don't clean the top décor blanket on the bed. I had to strip that immediately as there was what looked to be pepperoni pizza mushed into it. Very large and noticeable by the way. The drapes were also covered in schmutz, so the luxury level kind of drops when you see things like this. We got a junior suite and the room was very large with an incredible view of the harbor. I mean the view alone was worth the money. The bathroom however, was not large. All the reviews I read said the bathrooms are big and great. Mine was not. It was cramped and the door to the shower made no sense at all. My 5'2" 120 pound mother would have a hard time entering this shower. It feels super gross to wash yourself and then have to rub your body against a wall to get out of the shower. Also, another thing people really seem to fail to mention is that this hotel had NO air conditioning. I read a lot of reviews before I stay at a place and was shocked that people don't mention it. There is a small fan in the closet though and you can get ice from the bar to makeshift your own a/c.

Yelp
There is no air conditioning and the windows don't open sufficiently cool the room. For $500 per night the temperature in the room should be comfortable. No onsite parking.

Yelp
Stayed here with my wife for two nights. Loved it! Conveniently close to town and the train station. Rooms were clean, staff friendly and the bar area was great. Recommended.

Yelp
Awesome! This hotel is a luxury hotel & spa located in the center of Oban that boasts beautiful views over the harbour. With Oban train station and Oban ferry nearby it is conveniently located. Plush rooms with large bathrooms this hotel is the perfect place to stay for an Oban getaway. Full breakfast in the morning was the silver lining on this hotel.

Yelp
We were in Oban for just one night as we were road tripping across Scotland. I booked the Perle Oban Hotel based on the positive tripadvisor reviews, and was not disappointed. I made sure to book a room with a bay view, and I felt the extra cost was totally worth it. We were in room 205 and the view was amazing. The room was so well appointed. It felt upscale but still cozy at the same time. The room was a good size, we had room to stretch out a bit and fit all our luggage. They even included a yoga mat in the closet! Bathroom was also a good size, and looked upgraded and clean. They did have a towel rack, but I found it to be quite small are hard to fit towels onto. The floor was also a bit cold on my feet due to the tile, although I did like the look of it. The shower had a rainfall and standard shower head, which works out perfectly for my husband and I since we have opposite preferences there! The shower had a pivoting piece of glass that was very shallow and I'm not sure exactly how it was supposed to keep water in, but I found that some water did splash out of the shower onto the floor. We stopped in the bar after we got back from exploring and found it spacious and inviting. They even had some board games that we played as we were enjoying a drink. We did not eat in the restaurant for dinner because it was tapas style (and we were not in the mood for that) however we did have breakfast there in the morning. I was very pleased to find several vegetarian options, including a full Vegetarian Scottish Breakfast (yum!). The food came out promptly, although because it was busy it was a little hard to get the waiter's attention for more coffee/tea. The most inconvenient part of the trip was certainly the parking. Because the hotel is in a prime location downtown, the parking is only paid for street parking (2 hour max). I didn't see a super convenient garage to park at that was near the hotel, but luckily we came in after 6pm at night and were leaving the next day, so we ended up just paying to park on the street for a couple hours. I could see this being a problem for those with disabilities or lots of luggage though. Overall was thrilled with our stay, and would come back again. Room - 5/5 Bathroom - 4/5 Service - 5/5 Location - 5/5 Parking - 2/5 Bar - 5/5 Restaurant (only had breakfast) - 4/5

Yelp
We stayed at the Perle Oban in August for 1 night traveling through the Highlands. Check-in was easy and the woman at the front desk actually walked us to our room which was helpful. The room was down some stairs and through another door so it would have been hard to locate otherwise. Our room was nice but faced the town, not the bay. The shower was decent-sized for Europe. The TV was a good size although my boyfriend felt they needed more sports channels. There was an easily accessible outlet by the bedstand to charge devices. The hotel is very centrally located within the city of Oban. It's directly across from the harbor and a quick walk to bars, restaurants and shops. Breakfast was included and they had a selection of eggs, sausage, mushrooms and tomatoes. Plenty of fruit, yogurt, breads and pastries. They also have a menu from which you can order a few specialty items. The eggs were runny but the rest of the food very good, especially the mushrooms. Checkout was simple. We were lucky to have found parking on the street after 6 pm. Most parking is metered from 9-6 and I believe the street parking nearest to the hotel has a 2 hr limit. Overall we enjoyed our night at the Perle Oban.

Yelp
The reception staff are wonderful and the food in the restaurant is magnificent. The wait staff are friendly and attentive. The view of the harbor is spectacular. So why one lonely star? This historical building is being left to disrepair. The rooms are not dirty but instead filthy and housekeeping is non existent . There are drunks howling till 3 am under the windows every night. The management does nothing about it. Very sad because with the right management this could have been a five star experience.

Yelp
We had a one night stay in Oban, as I imagine a lot of travelers do. Everyone at the Perle was fantastic and helpful first off - so thank you! It was the perfect place to stay if you take the train in as it's directly across the street from the station. The room was posh and lovely - very clean! It was kind of small, but who cares when you have a perfect view of Oban harbor. We enjoyed our time here very much, highly recommended! They were kind enough to hold our luggage after we checked out and wanted to explore Oban before moving on to our next destination.

Yelp
Great hotel, but I had to laugh that their wifi has GunLearn.com's website "blacklisted". Wouldn't want anyone learning about firearms on their computer...someone could get hurt! lol Liberals are hilarious.

Yelp
This hotel and the restaurant within, 1882, were absolutely amazing. The food came quick and our waiter at 1882, Connor was polite and provided a quick, attentive service that made the experience one to remember. Even if you are not staying in the hotel, be sure to check out the restaurant.
