Searching for the Perfect Dram on Islay

"I had my car and accommodation provided by Visit Islay, and Rosemary and Don from Persabus were incredible hosts — Don cooks a mean breakfast — which made logistics on the island especially easy and pleasant." - Matthew Kepnes

We are at the end of our stay on Persabus and we are so sad to be leaving. 😭 From start to finish it has been amazing, Rosemary and Donald are wonderful hosts, the room is spacious and clean, the bed is comfortable and I can honestly say I feel rested for the first time in months. Our room was attached to the main property but we had our own access through a separate entrance, Islay is amazing and Persabus is right en route to Bunnahabhain, Caol Ila and Ardnahoe distilleries that are over this side of the island. The Persabus Pottery is beautiful and we picked up a number of pieces to gift family and friends. We cannot wait to return!

We had the pleasure of staying at this fabulous accommodation last September. It was the most relaxing and quiet place ever. The hosts Rosemary and Donald were very accommodating and helpful. When they say there is no fast food they mean it. Donald’s breakfast’s are amazing. The island of Islay is very clean. No fluorescent lights, no sirens, no traffic, no trash, no noise and no industrial pollution. The distilleries are all worth the visit. We found the people were very down to earth. Driving was a pleasure. Everybody waves in passing. Restaurants were superb. Seafood was amazing. Lamb was a specialty. In general a great place to stay and explore. Will be back.

Donald and Rosemary could not have been more wonderful hosts. The farmhouse is enchanting and the setting is perfect. My wife and I spent 10 days in Scotland with two other friends, and all four of us agreed Persabus was our favorite place we stayed the whole trip. It's convenient to the ferry and a short drive to restaurants, distilleries, and other things on the island. We were able to walk from Caol Ila our first night there. We had a wonderful time, and definitely will be back when we return to Islay.

So the rooming was a bit of a mix up so we got the Persabus Millhouse. They were so nice despite the mix-up and gave us a discount because of the confusion. Donald was absolutely adorable and each day he came with breakfast with freshly pressed coffee and the best breakfast sandwiches I have ever had! He also knew the best places to visit during our stay and exactly where to eat. We also had a change to our ferry leaving the island and Donald was on it! He not only knew about the change but where the new ferry was leaving from and when. The rooms were so warm and welcoming and there is a small farm with a super cute horse nearby. We would 100% stay again. Donald if you read this review it is Cole and Jess, the honeymooners, and we can't thank you enough for the best honeymoon ever!

The most beautiful location and family at this B&B. Beautiful views of Islay and Jura and situated perfectly to get around the island.

We stayed in the upstairs bedroom of the main house. The room was super basic. There was mold, spider webs, and dust, but bedding was clean. Carpet and chairs were old. Room wasn’t actually finished (bad paint and unfinished molding etc). The WiFi DOES NOT WORK. The location is as expected but walking to restaurants as described in the website is a stretch. The owners are friendly. The breakfast is a homemade sandwich brought to you on the owners schedule. The website looks much better than the actual place. The cottage may be perfect as we were only in the room upstairs. We wouldn’t return and were so sad we booked 3 nights.

Don and Rosemary were amazing hosts. We spent the night here after we got off the ferry. The accommodations were fantastic. We were so comfortable after a long journey. Don made sure we felt super comfortable. We would absolutely stay here again.

Just come back from a wonderful long weekend on Islay (our first visit) and so pleased we chose to stay at Persabus in the B&B suite. Rosemary and Donald are lovely owners and were extremely helpful with suggestions on places to eat which was particularly helpful with us staying off season! Location perfect for walking to Ardnahoe and Bunnahabhain distilleries. Absolutely delicious bacon (and tattie scone!) rolls and coffee every morning. Very comfy bed. I can’t fault it. Will be our base for inevitable future visits. Thank you so much.
