This space is really chill. My go-to barber is Thadius. He's friendly, efficient, and my haircut always looks great even after a few weeks. I love the records they play next door, the person at the front desk, and the complimentary refreshments. Highly recommend!

Spencer Geiger

Google
Great place, been going here for 2+ years and bounced between a few different barbers. Finally landed on Thadius, and now I'm seeing him every 2 weeks. Precision fades every time, awesome personality—best part of my week! Can't recommend him highly enough. And shout out to Sam at the front desk for always making it feel so welcoming!

Simon Guzman

Google
Thadius has consistently given me the best haircuts I’ve ever had. At this point he is my go-to. Works quickly and confidently and I always leave the shop happy. The shop itself is also a great vibe/ cool place to be.

Joel Dooling

Google
Really great shop; I’ve been going every 2-3 weeks for over a year. Everyone there is great and Thadius is hands down one of the best barbers I’ve been to in my 10+ years in NYC. Incredibly talented, precise, and a total sweetie.

Jelryk Leon

Google
Tad has been my go to hair specialist for over 4 years now. His attention to detail and profound creativity have allowed me to blindly trust his vision when coming to him for suggestions. Due to his dedication and personal drive, he has progressed expeditiously in his career, and will continue to be my hair specialist (unless he moves or something).

Shawn Caldeira

Google
Thadius does the best cuts here. Love coming to him. He always makes me feel good and I always leave feeling fresh!

Ted Atwood

Google
Great barbershop and great vibes. Thadius consistently gets me right and wouldn’t go anywhere else — highly recommend if you’re in the neighborhood or close by

Jay C

Google
Great barbers and general vibes, but with the price increases it’s hard to justify paying $75 for a haircut from here.

Yelp
Here's the deal: This is a review that starts out by saying "I don't normally write reviews...", and if that type of thing isn't your jam, I'd suggest scrolling on. That being said, I am fairly correct in my general assessments, have exquisite taste, and overall the best opinion. It was November of 2022, and I had just wrapped up my year long stint of growing my hair out. Kind of like no-nut November, but for general self-care and overall esteem. In an effort to impress my mother in law (ugh), I needed to chop off my Manson (Charles, not Marilyn) and reenter society. My normal stylist wasn't available (wait... I thought you spent a year without cutting your lovely locks? yes... but that doesn't mean I was a peasant before hand). Anyway... where was I? Oh yeah. Normal stylist was busy - I googled "hippest place for middle age man to get hipster hair cut" and POI was about 9th down. I looked at other reviews to get the vibe (I'm a sheep, what can I say?) and saw a review for the unshakable Danielle B., so I rolled the dice and boy what a Yahtzee it's been ever since. From the moment you walk in the door you know Danielle is there (primarily because the place is like 200 sq feet). Whether you are introverted or extra, Danielle will bring out explicably the best and the worst in you. The best because my hair (again) is perfection, even more so after she trimmed it up, and the worst, because my best is also my worst. I haven't laughed so hard during a haircut since the Bush administration (the Dad not the 9/11 guy). Kind, eccentric, skilled - Danielle is hands down the best of the best. I didn't know that day I found my new stylist when I walked in that fateful November - but the universe has a funny way of working itself out (don't worry, my previous stylist is alive - he's a friend, so it's okay I don't give him money). Anyway... so where was I going? Oh yeah. Go to POI. Get Danielle (or get someone else, I'm sure they don't hire horrible people), and get ready to get your face blown off (with a hairdryer). End review. xx

Yelp
Danielle B cut my 14 year old son's hair at this crazy cute barber shop with an adjacent record store. The energy in throughout is really good and the cut was great. Son is super happy with the result and had fun chatting! We will be back.

Yelp
These guys are way to greedy for their own good. There are way better barbers for the price - avoid at all costs. I had an appointment booked for 2:30pm that I had to cancel 20 minutes prior for work related reasons. I booked online with no one in particular thinking it would be a small step up from a walk in. The guy on the phone informed me that there's a cancelation fee that I will have to pay when I come in. Realistically, a haircut and a beard trim from this place is going to cost me $100 after tax and tip (which I don't mind paying if it's excellent). But they've got a lot of nerve thinking that price doesn't already cover a small amount of flakiness from their customer base. I was even nice enough to call ahead and cancel, so they can be free to take a walk in instead of waiting for me. What a bunch of a**holes. There a lot of other barbers who would love to cut my hair for $100 and who have factored in some amount of flakiness in their clients as the cost of doing business.

Ina T.

Yelp
Saw they had an open slot on their site and walked in, 10/06/, I needed a simple straight across trim in a hurry. The guy refused me because of my gender, insisting I needed a "salon". I said I understood they do men's hair and that was fine. The shop was empty. He practically chased me out the door. I went down the street to Georges' barber shop. I was told they usually do men's hair. I said,ok, I understand. Just cut straight across the bottom, he did it, looks decent, half the price of the fancy, sexist place.

Yelp
I really like this joint. It's got a great vibe and the barbers/stylists have always been punctual (held true to the appointment time) affable and professional. I have received 2 bad cuts here (hence the 4/5 stars) but they were more than happy to fit me in almost immediately to "fix" the haircut (which is subjective anyway... I never know if I'm conveying my desired cut sufficiently through words) for free. Not perfect but pretty damn close and always a pleasant experience.

Yelp
I received the worst haircut of my life here. I asked for a gentle fade in back and to keep some length on top. I specifically said that I did not want to look like a Nazi--not too short on the top or the sides. Like another reviewer here on Yelp, Kunal S, the barber faced my chair away from the mirror so I couldn't see what he was doing. There was no communication during the cut to see if things were going in the right direction. I didn't think much of these things at the time, but I realize now they were warning signs. I received a tight buzz all around the head (no fade) at least twice as high as the barber indicated he was going to go, which now ends abruptly a rectangular patch of hair on the top of my head that was cut to a uniform length. I look like Beeker from the Muppets/a middle school gym teacher/Richard Spencer constantly getting punched in the face. It is an extremely bad haircut. I now have to wear a hat until my hair grows out enough that I can get it fixed. It felt as though the barber had a formula which he applied without regard to the preferences or head shape of the person receiving the cut. Service, atmosphere, etc., were all fine, but the quality of the haircut was significantly worse than e.g., Supercuts. I strongly caution against going here.

Yelp
I stumbled across this barber shop while roaming around Fort Greene. After trying out a few different places across Brooklyn and Manhattan, I'd become disillusioned, but I scheduled an appointment anyways. The haircut I received from Carmelo has been complimented numerous times as the best haircut I've had in years. I will be going back.
google avatar

Thomaz N.

Yelp
Reasonable quality, very rude treatment. During my first time here, I was told to wait and eventually got the undercut I was looking for - but it wasn't nearly as smooth and suave as the haircut I usually get at their other store in Williamsburg. Second time here, I was unceremoniously expelled for being a few minutes late, even if I was still within my time slot and the place was nearly empty. That's the kind of unnecessary meanness that gets you a negative Yelp review. By all means, ditch Persons of Interest Fort Greene and go instead to their Williamsburg franchise on Havmeyer Street, where you'll be well treated and get the stylish haircut you want.

Yelp
Just received one of the best haircuts I've ever gotten from Hailey at Person of Interest in FT Greene.Cannot recommend this place enough!!!

Yelp
I've had my hair cut here four times by three different fellows, and I couldn't be happier. Case in point - I used to request a 5 on the sides/back because I was worried my previous (cheap, $17) barber might mess up and need some wiggle room. Not true here - quickly went down to a 4, and considering a 3 (whelp!) for august, we'll see. Never got a holier than thou vibe, every time was super thorough and thoughtful, barbers are nice. But yes, if you want a $125 haircut, by all means, go get one. But if you want that next step up from your buddy's girl cutting your hair, this is the place. Additionally, the last time I was there, we specifically talked about yelp and reviews and resultant psychoanalysis, etc. So is this really a review of yelp reviews inside a yelp review? You think that's really air you're breathing? Did I just mix two cult scifi references like a well made cocktail? https://i.ytimg.com/vi/66TuSJo4dZM/hqdefault.jpg

Yelp
I won't go anywhere else! For the past few years I've been traveling a ton for work, getting haircuts in different cities from different shops every time, and wishing I had a regular spot so I wouldn't need to try to describe what I want to someone new every time, with mixed results. Persons of Interest is a little pricey (cut and beard trim was $63 plus tip) but it was lovely, exactly what I wanted. Ross really took his time, and I left looking better than I can remember after any recent cut.
google avatar

Bryan L.

Yelp
The cut is $45. At this price (And, fortunately, skill level of the barber), you are making easily the most worthwhile investment that will pay its dividends personally, socially and in the workplace. I've had the pleasure of having a man named Gary cut my hair twice now. Without getting into the long history of my battle with my hair, I'll say that, once I shared said history with Gary he instantly understood the type of hair, the cut I was looking for and then he set to work... Only to finish like 15 minutes later. I accepted, paid, left.. Thinking the whole process was a bit quick compared to my last shop, I took a look and thought about it. Then I began to realize why getting my haircut at Persons of Interest is the best decision I could have made. You know when you're exploring the world of wine and you find that very subtle, delicate, expressive balance, hidden at first but deep in its finish, personal return and overall enjoyment? This is the winemaker who understands nuances, delicacies and finesse. Someone who digs into their craft with passion and integrity. Or, for the less wine-centric folk, you know when you drink a lemonade fresh made by the right person and you think "Why doesn't all lemonade sing like this?" It's like that. Only for haircuts. They assess your needs, analyze your hair type and set to work as masters of their craft. 10/10. Keep up the great work, guys. I've found my barber.

Andreas B.

Yelp
I have been twice there, and both times the result was mediocre. The salon has a nice atmosphere but the employees do not possess any hair cutting skills. I wonder where some of them did their apprenticeship. I can confirm the remark from some other users that they do not follow the clear instructions given and turn the chair away from the mirror so that the client cannot observe the progress. For the prices they are charging, their service quality is an insult! You guys have to become way better!

Yelp
best haircut I've gotten in New York and I've lived and worked here for 21 years. Williamsburg location. ask for the gent who is from Cali and worked in music blanking on his name rn, so good so chill.
google avatar

Tony H.

Yelp
I've gotten my haircut by two different ladies here, and both have done an outstanding job. They listened to what I was looking to do with my hair and made it a reality. They walked me through styling that I would need to do for different looks. The atmosphere is chill, and I highly recommend this place. I only wish they were more flexible with walk-ins. An appointment is highly encouraged.

Yelp
I don't agree with other reviews they are rude - I found them nice and professional enough. And I don't agree with the review saying worst hair cut ever - the cuts are ok. But the cuts are not great. It's a cliche of the new Brooklyn hip barber shop with Booz in a old style cooler and art magazine. The design is woody and minimalist. Sharing the space but with its own door is a rotation of pop up stores selling records / cloths / whatever that clearly could not stay in business on their own. I get it, the pop up store help the barber shop stay fresh and cool. But the cuts are just ok. Shaves are a little less than ok. And it's not so cool it makes up for what you go there for.

Svanur P.

Yelp
I've had Gary cut my hair for years now and even with my changing styles, he always understands exactly what I am looking for. He is also always more than happy to make changes if I am not totally sold on the look after the first round. This means that I always leave happy and looking great. I followed him to this place from Truman's on the Upper East Side which is a fancier and a lot pricier barbershop. Thankfully, Persons of Interest is closer to where I live, and also a lot cheaper. So from Gary you are getting a a high end cut for half the price. Can't recommend him enough.

Andy K.

Yelp
The atmosphere in the shop is great, and the record store that shares the space plays fantastic music. Super conveniently located - a quick walk from Atlantic terminal and the A/C/G. It's not easy to see from the street, but it's a gem, incredibly affordable. Both times I've gone to this location I've been in and out quickly with great haircuts. You can also make appointments online, which has been very convenient for me. The front desk guys are always friendly and attentive. I've only gotten my hair cut here by Scott, and he's extremely talented and nice to talk to. This last cut he gave me is easily the best haircut I've ever gotten in my life. If you're looking for an affordable and excellent haircut, look no further.

Yelp
I'm a big fan of Persons of Interest in Fort Greene. Always a great cut, good music playing, drinks in the cooler, and friendly service. Definitely call ahead and make an appointment- not really a walk-in type of place. I've been going here for over a year and I wouldn't go anywhere else. The hot shaving cream and straight razor at the end is a great touch. I've had cuts with everyone there but usually try to go to Gary or Carmelo. Both are great guys and true professionals.

Davis W.

Yelp
Decent haircut. Good atmosphere and location. Very much not worth the price. Found another spot nearby that is half the price and more consistent.
google avatar

Eddie B.

Yelp
Wouldn't go back. Why set appointment times if you're going to have a 25 minute wait? Also, the barber managed to slice the back of my neck when he went to shave it.
google avatar

Soren D.

Yelp
I never thought I'd frequent this spot..for nothing other than I live in upper west Manhattan. I now have to admit my only journey to Brooklyn ever is to go to Gary to get it all tightened up. The dude knows how to give you the classic men's haircut with that thing that makes it modern. What thing? I don't know but when you figure it out let me know because I try and describe it to other stylists and they just don't know what I'm talking about. I even show them photos of it freshly cut by Gary and they say "oh I got it" and then proceed to make me look like A old Navy cargo pants cookie cutter dad. Fuck outta here. Lao tsu said "the five colors make a man blind..the five tones make a man deaf" well the five basic cuts they must teach in haircutting school make a man boring. Gary sees and hears the colors and sounds between my follicles and captures what's trying to come thru. Artist. Throw in his lively banter and you see why I make the trek every few weeks to a spot where I feel amongst the hipness but like a pro Gary sets me apart from it. Holla.

Yelp
I got what seemed like a decent-enough haircut here a few months ago, but the stylist was so rude to me that I immediately knew I would never return. A month later I found a new barber who actually knows how to communicate -- without attitude. He pointed out how badly the Persons of Interest stylist had cut my hair. This place is a joke.

Kunal S.

Yelp
Terrible experience. I left looking like beeker from the Muppets. I came back for a fix, and receptionist could not have cared less nor did he try to be accommodating at all. I left and came back a minute later when I realized the original barber who'd cut my hair was their and unoccupied as his appointment did not show up, perhaps unsurprisingly. So I asked him to fix mine which he begrudgingly did. But he did the same thing he did last time which was position my chair towards the center of the room so that I couldn't see what was happening in the mirror and when I called him out on it he gave me some lame line about how not to tell him how to do his job. I pointed out that every other barber had their client facing the mirror and he told me they are cosmetologists not barbers. Seriously? Then I told him perhaps you should give me some leeway since I was returning for a fix. I gave this guy a great tip on my original visit so I really don't understand why people at this barbershop would treat me with such contempt. I will definitely never ever ever be back.

Walt W.

Yelp
Had a bad cut, and was offered a complimentary cut to make up for it. If possible, the second was worse with the stylist telling me that we should just quit when I told her I wasn't happy with what she did, leaving me with half a cut and no beard styling. Outrageously disgusted with this place. Avoid at all costs. Overpriced, zero talent, and pretentious sense of "cool" for zero results. One of the worst experiences at a barber I've ever had.

Jason G.

Yelp
Gabe is solid. Every time. Shaved my head for a while and now that's done I need someone to set me straight and to contain my do. Gabe gets my challenge and keeps it tight.

Benjamin T.

Yelp
Great experience. Really nice staff with great advice. I came in new to the art of growing a beard and they have me a lot of great tips. I highly recommend Carmelo Ferro. He was great. Also, cool ambiance, shared record store, and free beer, soda, or seltzer.

Parker M.

Yelp
I rarely leave reviews, but the combination of cut and rudeness was disappointing. I asked for a straightforward cut, and at first was ok with the job eli was doing, but any time I asked for any slight changes, he basically explained to me why I was wrong. It wasn't terrible, but I have had much better cuts elsewhere, and he seemed to have a "barber knows best" attitude. It was at best dismissive and bordering on rude. I certainly won't be coming back.

Gregor P.

Yelp
Just got a haircut here, not only does it look shitty it's actually really badly done. As others have noted before, the dude faced my chair away from the mirror so I couldn't see what he was doing at all until it was of course too late. Pretty bad practice and pretty ridiculous to charge $50 bucks for that.

Daylan H.

Yelp
I feel like the experience could be amazing. Staff seemed very friendly and they offer free amenities while you wait. But when I got my cut I told the barber 4-5 times exactly how I wanted it and he seemed to acknowledge that he knew how I wanted it done, didn't ask To see a single reference picture (which I brought plenty of) and proceeded with the confidence he knew. Turns out I was wrong and I left looking like hitlers youth, 6 months of hair growth down the drain. I will not be returning...

Nana P.

Yelp
Desperately seeking Ross for my 9 year old who isn't comfortable with many people. If anyone knows where we might find him, please let me know. Thanks!!!

charles l.

Yelp
I've been going to Persons of Interest for two years now, and have only had a great haircuts with Carmelo. Always professional and on schedule. The atmosphere is relaxed, they use great products and know how to cut a short cut without fail, giving advice that you can trust regarding how the cut with grow out etc. They finish with clean up with a straight razor and hot towel, then rinse and style. I couldn't be happier with the service here and am happy they are in the neighborhood.

alex b.

Yelp
Not cheap . But It's hard to get a good haircut these days so these guys hit the spot . Nice guys also.

David G.

Yelp
I love it here, primarily because of Eli. He's the best barber I've ever had, a great listener, a kind friend, and a bastion of knowledge when it comes to music and insane life experiences. Beyond that, he does a mean fade. Book him! You're about to be in love.

Peter P.

Yelp
I don't often leave reviews. At first I thought I was lucky to get a walk-in at this apparently busy place. I was even offered soda while I wait, which was very nice. When it comes to the actual haircut I sometimes show a picture for reference but this time assumed the barber at such a highly reviewed place would be adequate. Famous last words! Jesus, was I wrong! I didn't come in for anything crazy - just to give my hair a slight refreshing trim. But for some reason I got a very rough and not even straight cut. When I asked to smoothen the edges with texturization, the barber Scott just gave the edges a nearly saw tooth shape. Asked whether he thought that looked like texturization to him, he apathetically stated he simply did what he was told, but assured me he could keep going (having no problem with making it even worse?), at which point, shocked, I just asked to let me go.

Matthew F.

Yelp
I just visited this barber shop for the first time day and I will never get my hair cut anyplace else in NYC. This is the first time I've left after a haircut appointment and LOVED the cut. It was exactly what I wanted. Carmelo was very attentive and listened to what I wanted and paid close attention to detail. The desk staff was also very friendly and relaxed. 10/10 would recommend.

Ivin B.

Yelp
Receptionist in Fort Greene was very rude today. Making fun of people before they walk in... My barber was nice, but messed up my part. I called to come back in to fix it - shouldn't have taken more than 5 minutes. The receptionist was less than accommodating, and could not squeeze me in for a fix for four days and was a jerk about the whole thing. Maybe they were really booked... but I think if someone isn't satisfied with their cut and they are polite, you should probably try to fix it as soon as you can. There are too many good businesses in nyc to behave this way, so I'll take my business elsewhere and recommend to any one else who asks to do the same.
