I recently visited the Peruvian restaurant **Perú Taypa**, and while the food was flavorful and fresh, the overall experience was marred by poor service, which made my visit less enjoyable.
We ordered **arroz chaufa de pollo**, **tallarines verdes with steak**, and a **jalea de pescado and seafood**. As far as the food goes, I have no complaints – everything was well-prepared and tasted authentic. However, the **jalea de pescado and seafood** was disappointing. There was no fish in the dish, just **calamari**, which made it feel like it lacked the variety of seafood one would expect in such a dish.
The biggest negative was the **customer service**. The waiter only approached us to take our order, bring the food, and hand us the check. In other words, we saw him three times throughout the entire meal. The lack of effort to provide good service was clear. In places like this, one expects a more attentive and engaging experience, especially with such delicious traditional food. But the service was lacking.
We started to think that the **poor service** might be due to the fact that they automatically add a **15% tip**, which seems to reduce their motivation to go the extra mile in providing a pleasant experience. They don’t realize that this hurts the restaurant’s image, and it becomes an important factor when deciding whether or not to return.
To make matters worse, **if you pay with a card, there's a 4% surcharge**, which is an inconvenient detail not mentioned upfront. This, without a doubt, added to the feeling that the restaurant isn't focused on providing a complete and enjoyable experience for its customers.
In summary, the food was good, but the terrible service and additional charges for paying with a card make me hesitant to return. There's a lot of potential in this place, but the service experience needs significant improvement.
