A gem of a good restaurant in a tourist trap ridden San Gimignano’s old town. The pate starter was delicious. And everything we had was actually recommendation worthy. Recommending with a clean conscious.

We loved this restaurant! We went to San Gimignano for our wedding trip, we tried a lot of great restaurants but it was our favorite one. The service is excellent and the food was marvelous. The cinghiale will remain in our memories forever!

I felt so lucky to find this amazing restaurant. You cannot imagine how cozy and athentic this place is before you enter the door. We ordered truffle risotto, pork belly dish and duck steak(?). Everything was so nice! Wine was just perfectly paired with foods. Staffs were welcoming and nice! It was very good memory! Thank you🙏🏻

Best food we had in Tuscany! We had Grandmother Gina's cake, chestnut soup, linguini shrimps, truffle risotto and fagottini with pecorino. Everything was outstanding!

We we were recommended this wonderful intimate restaurant by the place we were staying and hadn’t booked, but thankfully they could fit us in. We chose The Journey, a five course Tuscan experience. Absolutely delicious, every mouthful a delight and all served by the friendly warm team, generously speaking in English due to our terrible Italian. We had one wine flight and I asked for something non alcoholic…to which Gloria suggested a mocktail that she would create just for me. The most sublime I have ever tasted all sweet and sour and called the Pink Annabel…. make sure you ask Gloria to recreate it for you if you are there (and I am sure she can add alcohol if you would like that in there too!!)!! We would go back in a heartbeat. The perfect culinary start to our holiday in the region. Thank you 🙏

Stumbled upon this hidden gem when we were strolling in San Gimignano, peeked inside and it was full of local people just enjoying their food. Instinctively, we just directly reserved a table for the day after, and it was the best decision. The crostini was crispy but soft and airy inside, and the liver pate was velvety without any overpowering smell. The raspberry powder on the pate adds a fresh touch to it. The wild boar was tender & delicious. Be sure to order their risotto, as it was the best we’ve ever had. It has the right texture, and the truffle aroma lasted from the first until the last bite.

Google
Outstanding trattoria … delicious food, service was excellent, we weren’t rushed at all … best risotto I’ve had in years … we shared all the courses, and they played them separately… superb …

Hidden gem of a restaurant! Wonderful dinner. Slow start at first but we were wowwed by the offerings. My beef medallion was better than a US Filet mignon. My wife loved her Faggotini! The deconstructed Cheese Cake is the Best! Recommend it highly!

Yelp
Nice spot in San Gimignano right off one of the main roads into the town. The truffle risotto was amazing with little bits of meat in it (guanciale I think). The pappardelle pasta with a wild boar sauce was fantastic as well! We also had the steak as a second course which was topped with delicious vegetables. Would definitely go back if ever in San Gimignano again.

Yelp
We came here onto mother-in-laws recommendation. She said they had the best gnocchi she has ever had. This being my wife's favorite, decided to make a special trip to San Gimignano just to try them out! We made reservations and I am glad we did because by 8pm, every table was full. The place is very small and dark, but they add a small LED light at each table giving just the right amount of light to read the menu. We reviewed the menu only to find that they no longer have gnocchi. She was disappointed at first, but absolutely loved her entree. We weren't vey hungry so no starters tonight, but they brought bread and some sort of potato fritter that had bits of octopus in it. I loved it, my wife stopped eating it when she found out about the octopus! She was fine before I told her. We order a nice bottle of Pinot Grigio and I went for the wild boar ragu while the wife tried I Fagottini Del Contadino, pasta stuffed with pears & pecorino cheese in a saffron and pecorino sauce. Spectacular! The pear had a little sweet and the pecorino a little salt and the sauce was velvety smooth and delicious! My ragu was very hearty with lots of pork. Simply delicious. They had crème brûlée, which is my wife favorite. We still had a little wine left, so she ordered that and I got the double chocolate cake with orange marmalade. We both enjoyed our deserts very much. While they didn't have gnocchi, we both thoroughly enjoyed our meal and will definitely come back the next time we are in town.

Yelp
Cosy and authentic, off the Main Street and away from the crowds. Yummy homemade pastas and decent selection of wine

Andrew S.

Yelp
SO. GOOD. My wife and I stumbled in here while trying to avoid the crowds and WOW. The ambience is incredible, the service was wonderful, and the food was delicious. We cannot stop talking about it.

Susan A.

Yelp
Amazing food and great service! The inside of the restaurant is packed with historical charm, but they also have an outdoor terrace where the same excellent service is offered. The chef sent a complimentary traditional thick Tuscan tomato sauce with bread. My companion had the wild boar ragu with pecorino cheese foam and laurel powder; just wow! And I had the Fagottini with pears and pecorino; it was fantastic! We also tried the desserts: one Tre in Uno, the traditional take on panna cotta, and the chocolate cake with fresh raspberry and hazelnut cream. This was our last night in Tuscany and we almost gave into fatigue and settled for a quick tourist bite before bed. So glad we made the effort to walk the short distance from our hotel to have this wonderful meal under the stars!

Yelp
This is a true magic shop hidden away in one of the most magical cities in the world. My wife and I stopped in and had an amazing time with Andrea and his sister. They were so friendly, showing us some wonderful magic tricks, but also recommended some amazing sights to see and places to eat during our time in Roma. My wife is also into puppetry, and they had some wonderful puppets there that she got to try out. Oh...and the cutest doggy!!

Linda P.

Yelp
We had a lovely lunch here. This restaurant is off the main street and doesn't feel touristy. The staff was friendly, the food was delicious, and the wine was local. We will definitely eat here the next time we are in San Gimignano!

Yelp
The most memorable dish was the smoked mackerel fish marinated in soy and balsamic vinegar. It was served with a zucchini and carrot salad and was presented under a dome that had smoke trapped inside and delivered an amazing aroma when the dome was opened. The Florentine steak was delicious and the smallest portion was more than enough for four women to share. Served rare atop a bed of arugula it was simple and satisfying. I was excited about the pasta stuffed with sheep cheese and pears and served with saffron cream and pine nuts. Although it was tasty, I felt the description was more exciting than the actual taste, so somewhat disappointing by comparison to the other dishes. Service was accommodating during our meal, but the check was inaccurate at the end and then was still inaccurate after it had been adjusted. They were kind in fixing the total each time, but having an error more than once was not reasonable.

Yelp
Amazing and delicious dinner in San Gimigiano. So many delicious food options in this town. We showed up on Friday night without reservations and they seated us immediately. Cozy space with terrific service and an extensive food and wine menu. Take some time to take it all in. I ordered the eggplant dish which was spectacular. We paired our meals with a bottle of local Chianti Colli Senesi that totally enhanced the meal. I highly recommend this place and would certainly go back again.

Kathy F.

Yelp
We loved this family owned restaurant. The meal was fantastic! The staff amazing! We were fortunate to get a table at the last minute. A highly recommend a reservation!!

Yelp
Super cute restaurant, almost everything seems to be perfect, the ambiance, the wine, the food looks delicious ...we were so excited to go eat here, spent a good amount of money on a great Tuscan meal....but ...the male server kind of ruined it for us. He developed an attitude from the minute we asked questions about the wine, the food ...etc during ordering he suddenly stepped away and we were confused because I only told him about the Florentine bistecca for my husband and not my food...? After a few minutes he came back and we had to start over with our order. He seemed to be very friendly, laughing and joking with other tables but very short and no service for ours. So we did not get desert or anything else there, we ate our food and left. I had the pork belly which was AMAZING! But the Florentine Bistecca was just ok. For a $72 steak I would have expected something flavorful with charred notes but we've noticed that the beef in Europe does not come close to flavor as the steaks in USA. It's too bad because I wanted to love this place.

Ken S.

Yelp
KenScale: 8.0/10 Italian wine, particularly from Tuscany, is the first wine that I've fallen in love with. The deep flavor of chianti and other sangiovese varieties has long been one of my favorite sensations to my taste bud and, not surprisingly, I made a point to spend at least a full day visiting the wine country of Tuscany after a couple of nights in Florence. My girlfriend and I decided to stay one night in San Gimignano after the wine tasting tours, which turned out to be the right choice as I was a huge fan of the lovely town with old castle walls still very much intact from which you can view the absolutely beautiful scenery of the countryside. Our way to San Gimignano was, however, very rough as we went through the thunderstorm on a rental car before finally making it to the hotel we were staying at. Obviously, we were starving by then and a dinner nearby the hotel would've been a nice break. Luck has it there was a charming restaurant nearby the hotel and we went through the rain to check it out. Peruca's cuisine is classic Tuscan from top to bottom. There is no fancy ingredient or technique; everything is just straightforward rustic cuisine from the region. I've always been pleasantly surprised with how moderate the kitchen is when it comes to seasoning, instead focusing on the freshness of ingredients and consistent execution. A simple dish of burrata with caramelized cherry tomatoes, extra virgin olive oil and basil was such a welcome start to the meal after our ordeal that we started zoning into the food. Pici (a type of thick, spaghetti-like pasta) came with sauce of wild boar, which seems to be the staple in the Tuscany region everywhere (on the stroll around San Gimignano the next day, I've spotted at least a half dozen places displaying wild boar-based paninis and other food). It was delicious without any heavy seasoning, allowing the wild boar sauce to really shine as it is. But the better dish was the risotto with black truffles, ham and zucchini flowers. Maybe I was being generous at the time due to my hunger from long drives, but I really struggled to remember a better risotto dish at that time. It was creamy in the most delightful way without overwhelming your palate, and the combination of ingredients made for a very rustic dish that you just can't drop your fork off of. After splitting the dish in half, I ended up stealing most of my girlfriend's portion too. Dining in the Tuscany region, we knew we had to try the famed Florentine steak. To this day, I'm still very shocked that the steak was the weak point at this otherwise enjoyable restaurant. Yes, I saw the meat was cooked more or less perfect medium rare, and the judicious use of salt or other seasoning meant that the meat's texture really had the opportunity to shine. The biggest issue, however, was the temperature. My girlfriend and I almost felt that the kitchen was bringing a steak dish that was left outside for an hour instead of one that was just grilled. Had the steak dish been more memorable, I would've given a lot higher score to Peruca. Maybe, our sense of food's temperature became dull after freezing in the thunderstorm, but we wished we ordered a different secondi dish, even though we were hungry enough so that we still devoured most of the giant meat. I really loved the dining space of Peruca that makes you feel like you're dining at a basement cellar of a charming winery. If you're looking for a romantic dinner after wine tasting tours, Peruca's vibe is exactly what you should be looking for. Make sure to complement your meal with a bottle of wine (there are so many solid choices at affordable prices starting at approximately 20 euros); I would suggest trying one from the Tuscany region and there are also San Gimignano selections. Other than the steak, Peruca offered pleasant dining experience that makes you feel good; I'll remember to try other secondi dishes on my next visit in the Tuscany countryside.

Yelp
Not sure what the hype was about with this place. We have had some amazing meals in italy and this was not one of them. We ordered the gnocchi which had a very gummy taste to it and got caught on the top of our mouths. The sauce coming with it was also not great. Overall not a good dish. We are 0 for 2 on gnocchi dishes in italy. The steak peruca was pretty good. It was tender and cooked nicely. This came with tuscan wine beans which was a nice touch. We also ordered the cheese plate with marmalades. The marmalades were very nice and cheese was ok. Just couldnt get over how bad the gnocchi was. Maybe it was one bad dish.

Yelp
Delicious food and great service This food was delicious and the service was great. We shared a few different dishes. The wild boar, pear and saffron ravioli, risotto with truffles, the filet, and for dessert the pear in chianti with chocolate mousse.

Fabio Y.

Yelp
Little hidden treasure in the streets of San Gimignano! Following all other advices, we ordered wild boar and pasta with sausage. Both dishes were great! Service is OK with few people serving many tables.

Russell S.

Yelp
The "Big salad" was so good and perfect size ! What a nice family run business - great atmosphere. After ordering, the food comes very fast :)

Courtney M.

Yelp
Peruca was pretty fantastic. I docked one star because of the service. We didn't have a chance to make a reservation, but due to the incredible reviews we wanted to see if we could get a table. We got there right when it opened and as soon as we mentioned we did not have a reservation; the hostess and servers attitude completely changed. They put us in (what we think) their only non-reservation table in the corner. We didn't mind the placement, we just wanted to try the food. We waited a good 20 minutes before they came over to the table. The server was pretty rude to us and acted as if we shouldn't be there. But we ordered traditional ristorante style and were very pleased with the food. The thing I remember most was the tiramisu. It was the best I had all throughout France and Italy. Incredible. Typically in Europe, the tip is built into the meal, but I think they tried to take advantage of Americans by specifically placing a sticker on the receipt to as for tips. I thought that was a bit odd. Come for the food, not the service.... Unless you make a reservation ahead of time. :)

Kelly C.

Yelp
I had a delicious lunch with outstanding service- thank you for a memorable meal! Absolutely beautiful!

Catherine W.

Yelp
What an incredible find...the only thing that was better than the atmosphere was the cuisine! Wonderful wine list also. Our servers were friendly, helpful and very welcoming!

Matthias S.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere and nice staff. Food was good too. Had florentine steak. To the point. Good experience.

Matthew K.

Yelp
Incredible atmosphere and amazing food. This should be your stop if you are in town for one night. The waiter was busy and forgot a few of the items we asked for but the food quality made up for it.

Tim S.

Yelp
Not just the best meal we had in Tuscany, but one of the best two meals we had in all of Italy. I cannot recommend it highly enough. My wife and I came here during our honeymoon, and had high expectations based on recommendations from locals and their trip advisor reviews. Right off the bat, I was mesmorized by our waitress' 5 min wine decanting routine. I've no idea how effective it was at decanting the wine (which was fairly young anyway), however it did hypnotize me into a furious state of wanting that first sip of wine more than ever. The food, wine, ambiance, and service were all outstanding. We had such a fantastic time, and it appeared that the entire restaurant was having such a fantastic time, that it became a precious memory of our entire 2 week Italy trip. We debated about whether to go back again, and risk tarnishing that memory, and eventually we couldn't resist, and came back 2 days later. They remembered us, sat us at the exact same table, with the same waitress, who started us off with free prosecco this time, and we were blown away all over again.

Yelp
One of the best meals we had in Rome!! The pizza was amazing and pasta was so fresh! Burrata was divine! We also tried this chicory salad with anchovies and that was really great as well. The line was really long but I can see why. Servers were very friendly and helpful with picking out our dishes.

Yelp
During our short trip to San Gimignano, my Italian foodie friend and I were determined to try the restaurant that offers local cuisine. We drove all the way from Parma (and I came all the way from NY!!), we didn't want to just settle for any normal food that's available anywhere. Unfortunately, we didn't find any Yelp reviews of the restaurants in San Gimignano and therefore I made my friend to search Tripadvisor with his iPhone to find a decent place that has high ratings. After reading a few positive reviews and consulting our budget (we didn't want to spend more than 30 Euros), we settled for Peruca. However, it was a bit hard to find this place.... it's well hidden in the back street. As we entered Peruca, we noticed the walls adorned with numerous gastronomic awards and the beautiful ambiance created by the medieval vaulted ceiling. Everything looked quite promising based on the first look so we looked at each other and nodded in silent agreement. All three of us loved the setting, it was very romantic, cozy, and charming. However, we were somewhat disappointed with the food itself, I have to say that the food was not as fabulous as the reviews led us to believe. Antipasti of zucchini was a bit too salty, we didn't even finish it. Crostone al lardo di Colonnata e fagioli bianchi was pretty good, it was nicely seasoned. Risotto Peruca which contained tartufo, prosciutto di cinta senese & fiori di zucca was 3 stars for me, it lacked the depth of flavor and wasn't memorable enough. Fagottini del contadino (square pasta filled with vegetables and ricotta) was better, it was well executed and simply delicious. For meat, I opted for Tagliata di manzo con rucola & lardo di Colonnata which was marinated in scrumptious sauce but the meat itself had too much gristle to fight with. Dessert was the best part of the meal, I enjoyed the semifreddo more than the chocolate cake. For the price and the ambiance, I'd give Peruca 3.5 stars. I wanted to like this place but it failed to win my heart. It's not a bad option but I expected more.

Patrick G.

Yelp
An amazing experience - faggotini with pear and sheep cheese was unreal Picci with tomato and basil for my wife which was really good Service was nice and quick, and the place wasn't overly busy despite a very busy day in the town

Jerry W.

Yelp
Overpriced and undercooked. Slow service. Eggplant parmigiana was inedible. Nice atmosphere but that's it. Felt like we ate Mama Leone's

Anthony N.

Yelp
Good restaurant in the heart of San Gimignano. They were able to work a group of six in without a reservation which was remarkable. Wait staff was quite attentive and friendly by Italian standards. The Veal Steak and Cinghiale were excellent. The best Wild Boar (Chinghiale) I had in multiple days of trying it in all forms across Chianti. Excellent wine selection and good recommendations on the local white wine specialty of San Gimignano, Vernaccia.

Ken K.

Yelp
Great intimate setting with great food. Strongly recommend. Only seats about 24 so make a reservation.

Kaśka M.

Yelp
This was the Best restaurant I've eaten during my whole trip to Tuscany. The Best risotto with truffle and zucchini and panna cotta with prosciutto and gorgonzola. Wonderful experience in gorgeous Little Town.

Alex D.

Yelp
Best restaurant we have been to yet. As an organic farm owner, I was craving vegetables, not a big pasta or pork eater. This place had beautiful sautéed spinach and roasted potatoes that were out of this world. My husband had the filet with truffles and pecorino cheese- so delicious, made me a little envious. Sure to please!

pavel p.

Yelp
The food was not great and service also below expectations. Was surprised at the high reviews. Also the food is not really 100% Italian!

John M.

Yelp
Again. Another 4 1/2 star rating but yelp won't give me that option. Anyway the food and the setting you are eating in is awesome. Had the antipasti recommended by the waiter. Prosciutto, cheese and truffles.... It's a winner evertime. Gnocchi in a cream sauce with .... Yes u guessed it, truffles. And finished the meal with a wonderful filet wrapped in pancetta. The only let down was the gnocchi wasn't homemade. And they r so easy to make. But everything else was top notch. And yes they have plenty of Brunello and a great wait staff to pour it.

Blue B.

Yelp
A phenomenal family-run restaurant with a Escoffier-trained chef who uses only locally sourced ingredients. It is a few steps off the tourist track in atmospheric and romantic San Gimignano, situated in a cave-like cellar. Order what you like, but get the saffron and pear ravioli; it is world-class. Great wine list. Best restaurant in town. Check out their second restaurant around the corner, as it is equally superb.

SR M.

Yelp
We ate here our first night in San G. because Cum Quibis couldn't take us. Well the food was delicious and service was nice.

Kris P.

Yelp
One of the best experiences I had in Italy. The food was fantastic and so was the atmosphere. The service exceeded expectations as well. The pear ravioli or risotto are a must try. You must visit this place- book reservation in advance.

Ross W.

Yelp
Quaint place located in what appears to be an old wine cellar. Must have the ravioli and the bolognese. Remember that most bread in Italy is not salted and very bland. They do charge for service which is a little annoying.

Teri S.

Yelp
Delicious dinner, excellent service. More food than we could possibly eat. The price was VERY reasonable.

Nicole F.

Yelp
Lovely little restaurant in a quiet lane. Great service and the pasta was superb. Highly recommend stopping by for lunch or dinner.

brett p.

Yelp
Wonderful restaurant with great ambiance. Superior food and service. Especially loved the ravioli with pear and pecorino and cream saffron sauce. Went back twice in 2 days!!
