Pestana Cidadela Cascais

My first hotel review, even though I have stayed in a dozens of different places across Europe. This is probably the best experience I have ever had for very reasonable 5-star money. First of all, the location. The hotel is located inside the walls of an ancient fortress, right opposite the marina with boats and several excellent restaurants. If you choose a sea view, you get a direct view of the marina right away, it looks amazing. You can drive your car directly into the fortress, unload, bring in all your luggage, and then the staff will tell you where to park and give you a parking ticket. The parking is nearby. Second, the service is simply outstanding. The welcome, help with luggage, check-in, even a welcome pack for your dog, everything is at the highest level. All requests are handled quickly and precisely. The hotel has an indoor pool with a great view and a spa. The breakfasts also deserve special praise for their variety. Overall, I highly recommend it to everyone.

The hotel is in a beautiful location - historic location in the citadel and scenic with sunrise views. The rooms were comfortable well appointed with a mini bar, daily water refills, and turndown service. Breakfast suits all cultural breakfast habits cold cuts, cheeses, yogurt, waffles, bacon, etc. You can also request cooked eggs. Bar is well stocked and many books you can purchase or in one location can swap your book. Lovley boutique but reasonably priced stores right in front. Great restaurants out the backdoor in the marina. Really appreciate Ana Alexandre and Willy. They were attentive and fun in the breakfast room.

Perfect start for your holiday. Stayed here third time, always the first hotel to stay on our Portugal pousada-tours. Rooms are gaining some age, but anyway they are perfectly clean and duly prepared for your arrival. Staff is and has always been amazing, really welcoming you. Breakfast has basically everything you can imagine, except the HP-sauce 🫣 Indoor pool is heated, Finnish sauna decent as well as Turkish bath, all you need for stress relief. Real asset for this hotel, except the superb location and historic facilities is their personnel, a big thank to you all. Hope to be back here soon!

We stayed 30th Sept - 4th Oct 2025 and the most wonderful time. The location is ideal for exploring as well as being a beautiful setting in its own right. For me, the of the hotel amenities was the breakfast service; all the staff were nice, but we were greeted in the morning by Ana(?) and served by an exceedingly pleasant and polite gentleman named Arefin who is a credit to the hotel. For my partner, the highlight was perhaps the decor in the hotel bar which is very pleasant for an evening drink together after a day's exploration. All in all, I can't think of a better place to stay if you plan on visiting Cascais, and I do thoroughly recommend visiting. We fell in love with Cascais in just a few short days and fully intend to visit again. We saw wonderful historic sites, including Cidadela Cascais itself which is also close to several sites of historic and architectural interest (visiting from Ireland, we were keen to see the Jorge O'Neill sites but there are many places of interest nearby, from maritime and political history to stories of espionage, places of tremendous beauty, etc.). We had the benefit of a tour guide (Andre of ShortcutsTourismPortugal) so we got some amazing insights into the local history even as we just strolled along the seafront. Thoroughly recommend. And to top it all, our room had a lovely view of the harbour from the balcony.

Perfect family experience – highly recommended! My wife, our two young daughters, and I travel to different countries every year for our holidays, and this was our first time staying at a hotel in Portugal. We spent one week at the Pestana Hotel, and it was truly an amazing experience. The hotel service was excellent, but what made our stay unforgettable was the warm and professional attitude of the staff—especially Ana Carina. She was always friendly, attentive, and welcoming to every guest. Thanks to her, my daughters, who normally don’t enjoy breakfast, looked forward to it every single morning. On our last day, they even asked if we could stay one more day because of the wonderful breakfast service! Since returning home, they still talk about the hotel and about Ana Carina every day. Her kindness and professionalism made us feel as if she were the host of the entire hotel. We wish the hotel and its amazing staff the very best. Because of this wonderful stay, we are already thinking of returning next year instead of choosing another country. Highly recommended, and many thanks to the entire management team!.

Cascais is a beautiful Portuguese town If you want the best views, comfortable rooms, professional and friendly staff, then the Pestana Cidadela is the hotel for you. We upgraded to a view of the marina, and so pleased we did, even in December it was warm enough to sit outside, we watched the sea crashing against the marina wall, it was spectacular. We enjoyed a really good buffet breakfast, a good selection of fruit, bread, cheese, meats, cakes and a hot selection for a great British breakfast. The bedroom and bathroom are a good size, with a very comfortable bed. The hotel provided a complimentary 24 hour voucher to visit a number of museums, including the lighthouse, the view from the top of the lighthouse of Cascais is amazing. |Hopefully one day we will return for another week at this hotel.

Stayed here for 3 nights and loved it! Had to make a ladt minute change for accomodation and was so happy we did! Had a water view with a balcony (worth it!). Breakfast has so many options and is included with the stay. Service is amazing, thank you Ana, Alexandre and Willy for making our stay wonderful!

We stayed 2 nights. We had a beautiful stay at this hotel located right on the Marina. Not only were we a quick walk from to various shops and restaurants, but we were also able to attend a Christmas night market celebration! The rooms were nice and clean and they even decorated for our honeymoon! The staff were kind and accommodating. We had the best stay!
