Pestana Grand

It was one of the best vacations I have ever had and the most wonderful Christmas I have experienced while traveling. The hotel facilities were modern, new, and very clean. The special Christmas offers, such as the two dinner buffets, were very well organized. The reception staff were kind, helpful, and friendly, especially Roberto Ramos, with his welcoming smile and great sense of humor. The young cleaning lady on the ground floor was also very kind. Although she could not communicate in English, she used body language very skillfully to help and serve us. Her speed was unbelievable; our room was always neat and perfectly clean after breakfast. The breakfast buffet was amazing, offering everything you could wish for; cold or warm, sweet or savory. In addition, there were several à la carte restaurants that we could book instead of the dinner buffet. We tried the Madeiran and Moroccan restaurants and were more than satisfied. The grilled beef and other Portuguese dishes were very tasty and delicious, and the tajine was exactly as expected: well cooked and flavorful. Side dishes, starters, and desserts also fully met our expectations. The only point that could be improved was the coffee quality. The only good coffee was the one ordered at the bar, which was overpriced at €5 for an Americano. The wellness facilities were quite small, and the area felt tight even when not many guests were visiting; however, they were clean and acceptable. The outdoor pool area was very neat and clean, and the green areas were also very nice and well equipped. All in all, it was a perfect experience at Hotel Pestana. We will definitely return and highly recommend it to everyone.

We came here as a family group and we could not have been made more welcome. A superb hotel in every way; great rooms, fabulous food, great facilities and excellent staff who could not have done any more for us. Quiet, ultra clean with sea views. We wanted some days together without any distractions and it was so nice to relax in the indoor pools or the outside pool.

I don't really write reviews but this is not a 5Star hotel and like many have already said that this hotel is all about how to make more money from guests.. ||We went as a couple for our 25th anniversary- most hotels usually ask occasion but nothing.||The hotels is getting dated - the room we stayed in was large. Dining area is small i think as we went this time of year it was fine. but if peak summer or holidays then i don't understand how they would fit guest in. Breakfast is ok.. the station for omelettes is manned sometimes .. or you have to go looking for someone - probably because understaffed and the employee has to do at least 3 people job . Hot drinks and juices are included in breakfast. Dinner you are expected to pay for water.. which I honestly feel is tap water refilled in posh bottles.. ||There are no waterfilling stations.. only in the gym which again is wrong.. luckily there is a shopping centre i a 5 min walk - this has a supermarket there too so you can buy bottles of water relatively cheap.||When we bought drinks at the bar pre dinner- we are not allowed tap water either we have to pay for water if we want this !||Reception i feel are cold and unfriendly.. I saw a couple of times members snapping at guests.. i get it can be frustrating when guests may be asking for too much an i myself work in customer service but feel there is a way to come across which reception fail to do so.||All in all i would return to Madeira.. it is really a beautiful place but i would not return to this hotel.

I stayed here for one night due to my flight being cancelled. The room was nice and the sea views were fantastic. However, the food options were very limited and not what I would expect from a 4-star hotel. The location is around a 10–15 minute bus or taxi journey to the town centre, which wasn’t ideal for me. Overall, I wouldn’t choose to stay here again as a paying guest.

Our 2nd stay here. We got our room early which was a nice surprise. Always get a nice glass of Madeira on arrival too. Most of the staff are friendly and helpful. Rooms are given a once over every day (except Sunday I think). Everything you could possibly need in the rooms. The room decor is a little dated but clean and functional with amazing views. This year, unfortunately, our bed was extremely uncomfortable. After the first night we received a call from reception asking how everything was and we mentioned the bed and by that night they had fitted a mattress topper. It was improved, not the best, but not dreadful, and we were grateful, however I do think some new mattresses are needed. The pool and pool area is lovely BUT, and this was the only other issue, the sun loungers are old and saggy, so are very uncomfortable. All in all. A lovely place/location and I'm sure we will be back again.

Great hotel, close to the town. The rooms are comfortable and well maintained. The decor is a bit dated but overall nice. The food at the buffet is good with quite a few options. The only negative thing to say is that you have to pay for water (4.5€!) at dinner despite it being half board. It seems a bit excessive and even more expensive than the beer. Other than that, it’s a great place to stay with the family and comfortable

We spent in this hotel two lovely weeks in July. The stuff was really helpful and friendly. We had a comfortable room with a sea view which was absolutely wonderful! The food was very good, great fish and meat, plenty of vegetables and fruit. It’s a very quiet and peaceful hotel without loud animation program. The swimming pools were really big, however, the water was slightly too cold for us. The location was great near restaurants, cafes, a taxi rank, a shopping mall and a bus stop. Almost every day we took a walk to the Funchal city centre. We would come back to this hotel with pleasure.

Just concluded our 4 night stay at Pestana Grand and had the loveliest time. Exemplary customer service — they were so helpful, kind, and even went out of their way to help me celebrate my birthday with a personalized note and a bottle of bubbly. The location is not exactly walking distance from Funchal city centre but there is a bus stop located convenient right outside of the hotel, making getting around a breeze. Food was actually pretty good considering it’s hotel food. Above all else, I don’t think anything could beat the pool here — huge, clear, and clean. Sad to be leaving but looking forward to coming back to enjoy the sunset from this hotel’s pool again.
