Stayed for 10 nights to celebrate our 30th wedding anniversary and overall enjoyed our stay. The staff deserve special mention as they are all very friendly and helpful. Rooms are spacious and clean, we had a lovely ocean view. Room cleaning was good but have never experienced such worn towels, some with holes! |The speciality ‘a la carte’ restaurants serve good quality, well prepared meals, again the staff are worthy of extra praise. The gardens and pool area are well maintained, there are plenty of sun beds and umbrellas, though the pool lining and some tiled areas are in need of refurbishment. The inside bar, reception and atrium are pleasant and comfortable, but expect only ‘ok’ evening entertainment (as with many hotels of this type!).|One of the things that could definitely do with improving is the buffet restaurant. The management are well aware of customer dissatisfaction in this area but seem disinclined to do anything. Eating breakfast on the terrace is a very pleasant experience but the hot food selection and quality are well below what should be expected. The, very average, hot food is served in a cramped and often very busy area, the food is allowed to get cold and isn’t replenished frequently enough. This is also true at evening meal time. There is an annoying tendency at dinner for staff to try to collect plates from your table even before you finish eating and certainly the moment your knife and fork hit the plate! We very soon opted to eat in the speciality restaurants every night. The hotel is in a nice location, about 50mins walk into Funchal. We found the local Bolt taxi service an exceptional service and low cost.
