"They call Porto the Cidade Invicta for its reputation for withstanding any and all invasion throughout its history. That near-mythical sense of permanence resonates with Portugal at large, the country the wars skipped, treating visitors to a wistful glimpse of the Mediterranean Europe that might have been. That old-world appeal reaches its zenith at Ribeira Square, the city’s historic core, an architectural Magnifico fronting the lazy Douro with construction stretching back to the 16th century." - Tablet Hotels

The quaint hotel with its wonderful location directly overlooking the river was absolutely breathtaking. The bar and food staff were really what made this place outstanding. They were friendly. They were knowledgeable and they were very kind. Our two favorite bartenders were Raquel and Michael. My wife taught Michael a wine cork trick so that he can show future guests. Raquel was super helpful if you needed directions to local areas. When it came to the included breakfast each morning, that was fabulous as well. The team down there had bright and sunny dispositions, especially a gentleman by the name of Hugo. He was extremely kind and Friendly.

From the minute we got here we felt at home with their warm hospitality. The views are breathtaking , rooms lovely ( we were in new section), the breakfast buffet delicious, sitting outside having wine on the square was great so fun! A special shout out to Marta, Pedro and goncarlo for all their help, graciousness and hospitality! Can’t wait to come back!

I’ve had a great time while in Porto. The hotel is so nice. My experience has been wonderful. The front staff were very welcoming and special mention for Juan, who took such good care of me every morning at breakfast! He was very accommodating and friendly!

We celebrated our 50th anniversary at a memorable hotel. Our balcony views were amazing. The ambience was special and quiet. The breakfast sumptuous and the staff courteous and caring. Great location.

Located on the river in central location, we had the Junior Suite which was large and well appointed, quiet but no view. Whilst a central location the hotel was very expensive. With hindsight we may have looked further out. Access was difficult, no car access and downhill (staff will transport your luggage). Steep climbs to reach the city or any tourist attractions. Uber is cheap and reliable, we would suggest considering alternative accomodation a little further out and using uber to get around.

Beautiful boutique hotel! Staff are 10/10. Made the experience enjoyable & surpassed expectations. Hugo, Michael, & Raquel were exceptional, to name a few. Never have I ever had a 40-year tawny port for breakfast. Highly recommend this location for an immersive stay on the Duoro River in Porto.

Excellent stay at Pestana Vintage hotel. The staff was wonderful, with great service and professionalism. Their courtesy and responsiveness was truly appreciated, and coupled with a great location on the river made for a very enjoyable stay. There was even a nice gift for us as we were celebrating my wife’s birthday,, which was a nice touch. Highly recommend staying at Pestana Vintage if visiting Porto.

Yelp
When we arrived via bullet train and took a taxi to the hotel I had zero expectations. We usually stay at Marriott properties as I'm a platinum elite for life. But my wife; the curator of magical experiences knew we wanted to be right in the center of the action. Many narrow dark alleys and steep cobbled roads later the taxi stopped about 20 paces from the end of the road where the Doro River flows. I'm looking around.. a student band cloaked in traditional student robes are happily playing instruments singing. There ares white umbrellas like soldiers lined up with tables and chairs nestled underneath. As I gaze left, a very unremarkable looking building appears and a smiling bespectacled gentleman opens my door... "Welcome, Bem Vindo. I am Alex and I'm honored to assist you please". We walk in not all that impressed. Another lady presents us two glasses of port. And we start the check in process. That's when it hits me as I walk out to soak in the view. Holly Francesinha Batman! A million dollar view! But it gets better, the receptionist checking us in mentioned happy anniversary we have upgraded you as you are Pestana club members and it is your anniversary... parabéns! Oh that wife of mine... very sneaky! We go to top floor and have an Amazing view of the plaza, square, street, river promenade...and the bridge! Oh the bridge! Our luggage arrives via Alex who is ukrainian we talk about a bit. He winds up recommending a great dinner spot and many other items during our stay here like where to get Cuban cigars. The complementary breakfast buffet is very solid. The room as the building is old and made of stone is quite drafty. We cranked up the heat to full blast and it wasn't enough. But there are ample blankets down comforters etc. The bed/s however is Ozzie and Harriet style aka separate single beds made individually and are pushed together. Making Whoopi becomes interesting... The room itself, It's a bit small but charming nonetheless and Holly Molly that sunset, or moonlite as well as the sun rise view of the Luís I bridge is spectacular! And in 24 hours we had it all. Most of the staff is friendly, the bar tender, of course Alex is amazing, but the vibe from lady staffers wasn't as warm. Mostly indifferent efficiency. I have have no idea what the other rooms look like but if you can get this one it's worth every €uro

Yelp
Outstanding Hotel in every aspect. The service from the time you arrive until you leave is impeccable & non stop w/every member of the staff ready willing & able to assist you. This hotel is located right alongside the Douro River next door the the plaza in the heart of all the activity. Facing the hotel we had a room on the upper right side of the fifth floor. From this vista we had an awesome view of the Douro River, the walk along the river & the magnificent river walk. For the short time we were there you couldn't have found a more perfect location. We were there for 2 nights. The location was awesome. The breakfast buffet was spectacular. I loved this hotel

Yelp
Tired hotel, now we did not get a very expensive room and they may have been better but our room was very tired, the carpet was not only stretched out causing lumps it was very stained. Just did not feel clean. Same with the carpet on floor 3, stains everywhere! Such a beautiful area just too bad it's kindof run-down.

Yelp
We stayed for 5 nights in December 2024. Nice but old building in a great location with the reception desk set back from the entrance. While in the hotel at the wine bar, my wife's sling bag was stolen off her chair. There was NO SECURITY in the hotel with anyone off the street freely walking in and out of the hotel. The manager said he was going to file an insurance claim but probably never did. The hotel made no attempt to take responsibility or rectify the situation which was the result of the total lack of security. We loved Porto but there is no security for the guests of this hotel on a very busy square. I would never stay here again and you should not either.

Yelp
What a fantastic hotel; we're right by the water. Porto is gorgeously breathtaking, so when you open your window and breathe in the sea air, nothing else is like it. From the front desk to the bartender was terrific. I will also come back to this hotel; mark my words.

Yelp
A perfect location for exploring city of Porto and the port wine drinking experience. Well trained, professional staff both extremely friendly and helpful. The rooms are well appointed and the beds extremely comfortable. Well worth a visit.

Yelp
Gorgeous facilities, wonderful staff, excellent breakfast each morning. Great location and easy to walk to restaurants and shopping. Our upper floor room had a wall of windows and a beautiful view of the port houses across the Duoro. We enjoyed falling asleep each night with the drapes open and the winery lights twinkling in the distance. One of the most romantic rooms I've ever stayed in! Would love to stay there again

Yelp
This hotel lists itself as 5 stars, it is not. It is worn looking and disappointing. We booked our room directly with the hotel. The room we were given looked nothing like the one in the pictures. There is a "pink" carpet in the rooms. The lighting is poor. The bed is not 5 star either! The bathroom is updated but the doors and trim though out show wear. It is clean and the staff members are courteous.

Yelp
This is a great hotel with gorgeous views and at a superb location. Right in the heart of where most tourists congregate for outdoor eating, drinking, entertainment, and people-watching, Pestana Vintage Porto is the place to be. We took the train from Lisboa to Campanha station, and then another short train ride to Sao Bento station, then walked down to the hotel. The staff is friendly and very accommodating. We arrived a bit early, so our room wasn't ready yet, but they stored our luggage in a safe room, and gave each of us a complimentary glass of wine while we sat outside and enjoyed the ambiance of Porto. Our room was on the smaller side, but the fantastic view of the Rio Douro right outside our balcony window more than made up for it. The hotel is a nice juxtaposition of old and new, with WiFi and modern room decor right next to stone walls and masonry that have stood for centuries. The breakfast is really good, with a nice selection of different foods, including fresh fruit, local bread and cakes, and your typical breakfast fare. We even received a small piece of chocolate each day, which was a nice, unexpected treat. We were able to leave our luggage in the safe room near the front desk once again after we checked out, but had to wait a few hours for our train ride back to Lisboa. The concierge made the great suggestion of taking a taxi directly to Campanha train station, which was a relief since we didn't have to lug our heavy ass bags back up the hill to Sao Bento station. Overall, an excellent hotel with wonderful staff. Definitely try to get a room with that awesome view of the river.

Yelp
What an awesome location and fabulous hotel! It is right on the water, and on Ribeira Plaza. We decided to upgrade for a room with a view, which we are glad we did. Such a lovely view looking at the bridges and water. All the rooms here are unique, as they are dozens of interconnected buildings. The staff all speaks perfect English and are very helpful and accommodating. The room was clean, the bed was comfortable, and they had some extras we didn't use, like some kind of radio that looked like maybe it connected up with an iPhone. I do wish they had a mirror in the bedroom between the closets--that way I could have put on my makeup while hubby was in the shower, but nope, just a big empty space. Love the fun decor--our wallpaper was like a bunch of postcards all layered on top of each other. The common spaces are fun and quirky. Loved the little bar area at the entrance, as well as the tables outside the front door, set up to people watch the people in the plaza. Driving up to it was an adventure, but luckily parking was only a block and a half away, under the market. We would love to find a reason to get here again. This also had our favorite breakfast buffet of our entire vacation. Tons of breads, cheeses, meats, juices, fruits, pastel de nata, and even an organic honeycomb station, where they cut it right off (I'm allergic, so can't have it, but hubby did, and darn it, forgot to snap a pic of that). Lots of Americans here and a few other cultures represented.

Yelp
Charming hotel. Excellent location by the main pedestrian square filled with outdoor cafes and music as well as being along side the water. Helpful and knowledgeable staff. Tasty bar drinks and delicious breakfast with lots of variety to choose. Loved opening the big windows in my room and bathroom and seeing the Porto surround me. Taxis easily accessible

Yelp
My friends and I were scheduled to stay at the above mentioned hotel. Neither the website for the hotel nor the hotel staff explained the difficulty in accessing the hotel. Parking is public and 2 blocks from the hotel. The guests are responsible for carrying their luggage to the hotel traveling over cobblestone streets. There was no valet or bellhop service. This was particularly difficult for our group as we were three elderly ladies. After being told (by traffic control officials)that we were not allowed to drive to the hotel entrance we attempted to call the hotel and no one answered the phone. After calling the Pestana main number it still took an hour to get a response from the hotel. We had no choice but to find another hotel. So beware that the Pestana hotels are not accommodating and definitely not five star as advertised. We are very disappointed in the Pestana hotel group.

Yelp
Nice location and setting, just ok rooms. Poor customer service: promised but failed to make 2 dinner reservations on day of checkin. Day later, they got around to making one rez, and other was fully booked, called too late. No apologies, just excuses: changing shifts, noone bothered to do it. 4 star prices, 2 star service. Book your own meal reservations, and anything else. Staff is pretty useless in this regard.

Yelp
This hotel has truly exceptional customer service. Our dinner at Rib and beef restaurant for my group of 12 was absolutely divine. Patricia took excellent care of us and each item served was beautifully presented, extremely delicious, and we were deliriously Delighted with every aspect of our time there. Everyone was so pleased with our experience of being at Pistah on a vintage. I am very enthused to return to you again with another group. Your service has been so outstanding!

Yelp
Great location, extremely friendly and helpful staff. In a country where AC is spotty at best, you can crank it down in the rooms and get them frigid. It was awesome. Very accommodating of preferences at the restaurant and even let us sit and watch the women's World Cup soccer game - even though they were closed. It is at the bottom next to the river, so most of the sights were uphill (and it's a HILLY city), but the good part of that is that it was all downhill at the end of the day when you're tired. You can't park close, and the garage is a little tricky to find, but call them and they'll talk you through it and meet you at the main road to help with luggage. Very pleasant stay in a really beautiful old city. Highly recommend

Pam R.

Yelp
This is a lovely hotel, right on the water and across from the wineries. Or, as I say, the Port Authorities. It had recently been redone and the accommodations were very nice, as was everyone we came in contact with. Don't overlook the restaurant while you're here. I had one of the best steaks ever there, and being from Texas, eat my fair share of them. And, if you're lucky and he's still there, ask for Rui Pedro to be your server. He took great care of us and when we dined there the next evening, he made sure to come over, say hi, and ask how everything was.
