The hyper-realistic canvases of Hawaii artists, Peter and Madeline Powell capture life's treats and play things from both the past and today. My dad took me when I was younger on a family vacation to check out the exhibit and I was blown away, actually we both were. Their painting of candy is so realistic it is unbelievable. Almost too photo realistic. I am a heavy pez collector, therefore, it was natural for me to fall in love with the Pez paintings. It wasn't until I was in my early 30's that I had enough money to buy one of these paintings, however, by then their popularity had grown both locally and internationally, therefore, paid a good penny for their work. When people see it, it still gives them the WTF? reaction. I actually had a chance to interview them for my 'zine decades ago and they were such awesome lovely people.
