On the Grid : Harrington & Squires

"Based in a tiny sliver of a building 1.2 metres wide called The Corridor, Chrissie Charlton & Vicky Fullick run their small design and bespoke letterpress printing business. Here you can buy printed designs, commission a piece or take part in a one day letterpress workshop. Drawers full of an endless variety of type and blocks could keep you busy for days." - Chrissie Macdonald & Andrew Rae

They have an amazing used book selection, including older works like Dickens up through more recently released works, as well as items like music scores. The information is easily available either via signs (when in glass cases) or inside the front covers. Most are quite pricy (£1k+) but one of the best selections of high-end materials we’ve seen.

I love this place and try to stop in every time I'm in London. Context: I'm only a very small book collector (mostly first editions of a handful of my favorite authors) and have never spent more than $1000 for a book. But this place will make you want to consider expanding your collection & upping your budget. They've got tons of great stuff in a wide variety of genres and you can touch/flip through most of it. If I end up near Piccadilly for some crowded touristy stuff I usually try to stop in here afterwards to get a respite from the crowds and let myself feel like a richer person for even having stepped foot in the door. Enjoy!

Was finally able to visit the shop while on our trip to Europe and obviously it was everything I expected. I just started getting into collecting and found exactly what I wanted. From buying and asking questions to their wonderful and knowledgable staff. It was perfect. Anna was great to work with and made everything a breeze. Highly recommend. Excited to empty my wallet to this shop for years to come.

Like walking into another world. If there's a rare book you're looking for, truly rare, this shop might have an original copy. This is an upscale establishment and their craft shines through on that. Polite and the utmost professional crew running the place. I might not have had quite the budget for the things I saw, but I can guarantee you it's worth a look anyways. Books from centuries ago displayed the way I always wanted a museum to display them.

I was a bit intimidated when I walked in but was quickly put at ease by the friendly and welcoming staff. My eyes were delighted to be able to look upon the first editions and printings of some of the most beloved works from the last 400 years. It was moving, in a way.

This is a really intereesting bookshop. It is a bit intimidating when you first go there. For modern first editions, they will only sell the first printing of the first edition, which limits their stock. The stock is very expensive, (if you are a book lover with endless money, this place is a wet dream) but if you are down on your funds, this is a good place to sell to, because they give you around 30% of their selling price so you still get a decent amount. Especially, as selling rare books over the interet is quite difficult.

Fascinating place to have a look around although some of the prices were well beyond my wallet, but I'm sure it's a bit of a Mecca for serious book collectors. When we walked in there was a chap behind an old fashioned desk towards the back of the store which was totally in keeping. He was knowledgeable and obviously in love with his subject. Oh, and there was a first edition hardback of Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone if you're interested. I think it was £15k.
