Peters Brauhaus

We had spicy Goulash and pork medallions, both dishes were delicious. The Goulash had cumin, which is a spice we are familiar with and love, it’s a good portion too. The medallions had a “gamey” taste to it, which I like as well but not so much by my wife. Veggies on the side were well cooked. Kölsch beer is refreshing but it’s small, especially we just spent last few nights drinking at Bavarian beer halls. I like the beer but not something I would crave for. The outside of the restaurant is beautifully decorated, the stain glass ceiling is nice and classic. But I must admit I already started missing the beer halls.

Read about the restaurant and was recommended. Really appreciate the fast serving as we had only one hour to catch the train. Pork knuckles were so good and tasty, although the skin is not as crispy but we still love it!

its actually impressively good! i really liked the food and the atmosphere is quite cool. all deserts are literally magnificent and the main dishes that my family ordered were really good:) the sausages are also very good!! really recommend.

The first time we went the service was incredible. All the food is excellent, especially the pork (I have no idea about vegan or vegetarian), but the Kolsch beer is great. You must must must must must try the Beer Tiramisu. It is the greatest thing ever. On our second visit, the service was rather ordinary. The tradition is the waiter keeps filling your beer until you place your coaster on top of your glass. If my waiter had bothered to turn up every now and again, it would have been great. So great food, great Kolsch beer, but hit and miss service. Try to get there mid afternoon so you aren't eating beer food without any beer.

A restaurant in the center of Cologne near the Dom. I had the authentic "Rheinischer Sauerbraten," which was a delight: the marinated meat saturated my taste buds, not at all acidic. The cabbage had an overwhelming and tasty flavor. All washed down with rivers of Kölsch beer. The elderly waiter, who speaks very good English (and Italian), was extremely kind and had amusing jokes. You absolutely should pay a visit here, it's inevitable.

Welcoming atmosphere with a less than 10min wait around 1930 on a Monday evening. Service was ok but had an odd interaction with one waiter who seemed to refuse to get me a custard with my apple strudel even though I ordered it along with the ice cream and whipped cream, thought he was joking at first but it did not come. After 10mins managed to get the attention of our main waiter who realised it was missing and got it right away. But not a reason to not give 5 stars as food was very nice with generous portions. Had the halve Hahn for starters, beef with raisin sauce and dumplings and turkey for mains, apple strudel and windbeute for dessert. Very nice decor. Definitely recommend.

Bratwurst: a bit dry and firm (overcooked?) but nice enough Potato salad: very nice Kolsch beer: nice Strudel: a bit dry and bland but ok Service: very good Atmosphere: lovely Price: fair Friday evening, busy, but all staff seemed helpful and in a good mood. Likewise, the diners - everyone pleased with their meals. This was brauhaus number three, for me, and it compared favourably. Recommend.

For lunch prior to exploring the city, I stopped by Peters Brauhaus for lunch. It was a short walk from my apartment. Ambiance (4.5/5): When I'm in Europe, al fresco dining is my go-to. This is an exception to the rule. This traditional German restaurant has a spacious and beautiful interior. Especially the room with stained glass on the ceiling. One of my favorite restaurants, ambiance-wise, on my trip. Service (4/5): The service also exceeded expectations. Service in Europe tends to be a little slow, a little inefficient, and not terribly friendly. This was a departure from that. Our waiter cracked some jokes. I did have to get his attention to get our bill, but overall, solid. Drinks (N/A): When in Germany, beer is the way to go. I wasn't ready to start drinking yet so I had an apple juice with sparkling water---a popular soft drink in Germany. Food (4/5): I started off with the potato soup which is served in a charming bowl with a side of rye bread. It's a hearty soup with potatoes and other veggies, and a creamy one at that. Solid soup. The star of the show was the pork knuckle. Another famous dish in Germany and one that has quite the presentation. One, because it's huge. And two, because they often put a knife through it when they bring it to your table. They have two versions on the menu and the one I selected comes with mashed potatoes. The other option comes with sauerkraut. While it's not my favorite cut of meat, and it was so huge I couldn't finish it, I am happy I tried it. A nice all-around experience.

4 Stars for great food and Kolsch in a lively outdoor setting (they also have an indoor restaurant, but we were outside in the plaza). When in Cologne recently, we walked through the city looking for Peeters Brauhaus based on the reviews and recommendations. Luckily, it was a lovely May day and the Alt Markt (Old Market) square was super lively with people standing at high top tables and at picnic tables under shade tents on every side of the square. Peters has a historic indoor restaurant/bar, but we opted for their outdoor area that has its own servers and bar set-up. We ordered Kolsch (when in Cologne...) which came in their traditional small glass, a potato soup, and an apfel strudel. I'm not a beer drinker normally, but wow these beers are light and delicate and perfect for a warm day. Besides the beer, the potato soup was a STAR. It was hearty, had ham in it, and came with a great big piece of bread for dipping. I almost ordered a second one! Finally, the apfel strudel hit the spot. It was big enough for a couple of us to share and it came with cream to pour on top of the icing sugar-dusted top. The only thing that was lacking was the service (it took a while for our server to come back and bring us more beer, and then to get the bill paid), but it was a busy day and that wouldn't have mattered if we weren't in a rush by the end. Overall, a great experience!

I ordered the sauerkraut soup which was unexpectedly delightful. I've never had this type of soup before and I absolutely would order it again.

We ate outside on a hot day. Our table had cold Kolsch beers and we tried the sausage, potato soup, apple strudel, and turkey fillet. Food was good, the server had a large patio to cover so was a bit slow. We were in no hurry. Cool to watch the people of the town in the big square. Our tour guide had recommended this place and we enjoyed it.

Everything was very salty. The schnitzel was pretty well cooked but overall our food was very average. Decent but would not return based on food quality alone. It seemed like a fun place to hangout especially if you have a group. The prices are reasonable and they keep the beer flowing. We got seated quickly and our server was friendly.

I am a sucker for a good German beer experience and this place is a good try while you are in Köln. The space is large with tons of seating. The service was quick and nice! I only came here for the beer and it was a great experience trying Kölsch beer. They serve them in 0.2L sizes and keep refilling your beers unless you put a cup coaster on the top.

Delicious meal and a delightful waiter, plus excellent beer and a super characteristic German restaurant. We ate lunch there today, had a few Kölsche per person, and ordered from the regular menu. I had the little pork chops with vegetables and hollandaise sauce, which came with salad, and it was amazing! My son and husband had Wiener schnitzel which they said was great, and my daughter had chicken and gravy, which she polished off, so it must have been good. All of our entrees came with bratkartoffel that were even better than the usual in Germany. Enjoy it if you go!

Classy restaurant with many rooms to choose from. Service was attentive and polite and several waiters spoke good English. An English menu was available - I had the fried sausage and potato salad which was delicious, especially on a rainy Spring night. Would be good for families, given the space.

We were able to walk in and get a table at lunch on a Sunday. Service was friendly. Food was ok. It was a good stop. The beers kept coming but it didn't feel overwhelming. It was always when I was ready for a new one. Friendly service.

The ceiling in this restaurant is beautiful! I ordered the Peters brewhouse plate - 2 small pork schnitzel with fried bacon potatoes and salad. The schnitzel was great, and the potatoes tasted amazing!!! The Kölsch was very good! They keep bringing Kölsch when your glass is empty, and you have to put your coaster on top of your class to tell them to stop. The service was great! I recommend this place!

Recommended by a local. Authentic type of brew house, nice decor in rooms. Best part was the potato soup & sauerkraut, both the best we've ever had. House beer was good & served in smaller glasses so inexpensive $2.40. The schnitzel was just ok according to my German friend. The potato salad was good but a more of an American creamy type. Service was a bit on slow side but hey it's Europe. Bring a coin because there is a guy sitting in restroom entrance making sure you pay which is really bad considering all the money we spent on food & drink there, it should be free.

We were in cologne and wanted to experience some local food. We stopped in here for lunch. They have a nice lunch menu for a lighter fare. Our table tried the schnitzel, pork knuckle stew and the potato soup. Everyone was happy with their orders and the lunch menu was reasonably priced. This place is popular as it was crowded but we were able to get a table right away. We did have a server who spoke English but many of them do not. They offer a menu in English and German.

Ambience & Service was great. Food was exactly what we were looking for. I wasn't a Kolsch fan until I went there.

Keep 'em coming. I love their Kolsch and I love it even more that they just keep bringing them until you put your coaster over your glass. The Weiner Schnitzel was amazing. I think it's probably the best in the city. I love the decor and the surly servers.

I love Peter's Brahaus! We've been coming here for 30 years. It's the same every time we come. Good food, good service and the staff is phenomenal especially Luis! He has worked here for 17 years. The last time here we were with my dad and he is here with us in spirit now. We will be back again!

Just stopped in for a beer, but it was great and our server was super friendly. The menu looked great, but we were doing a beer sample around town at 5 different places.

Tour guide suggested this spot for lunch. We arrived when they opened at 11:30 and the place was packed by noon. Enjoyed the shnitzel which came with a salad and the kolsch of course! Lots of locals - young and old sat near us. Fun atmosphere!

We stopped in here for lunch midweek. The entrance can be wheelchair accessible. The service was great. The beer was cold and tasty. The lunch menu was under 10 Euro. They had a fish, meat and vegetarian choice. My husband got the fish and enjoyed it. I got the classic sausage with sides. All were very good. The building is beautiful and exactly what you would expect. We will be returning for dinner tomorrow.

While visiting Cologne Germany, we took time to have meal here. Wonderful outdoor seating in the plaza. The service was great - while we spoke German to them, they spoke English to us! Great food and wonderful Gaffel Kolsch beer!!!! Loved everything about it.

I love German brewhouses and this was my favorite on my recent trip to Western Germany. If not apparent to you yet, Kölsch beer is all the rage in the beautiful city of Cologne and Peter's brew is on point. They have lots of tasty traditional food too so you can indulge in all sorts of German goodies. The service, food, and atmosphere were all superb and I highly recommend checking this joint out. Be warned that it could be very crowded so try to make an appointment or come at an off-time.

Ate super and drank Kolsch beer, exc lady servers kept our Kolsch beer cold by constantly changing glasses. All for a set price that went with the meal which was good but the beer experience was great, we went with a group of Aussie couples and a beer guide, an American expat provided by our Viking ship. He also took us to other pubs but Peter's was the best!

Service very very slow. Beer and food okay. Don't come unless you have a LOT of time to wait to order, wait to get beer, wait to pay.

Enjoyed this brauhaus during a quick visit to Cologne. It was a nice break from all the walking we had done in the morning. Place was packed but we eventually got seated. Wood panels, wood tables/chairs/benches all over. A bustling brew house frequented even by the locals. Great sign! Started off with the Kolsch, the local pale ale and we enjoyed that. Refills took longer than we were told by our guide but that's okay. We tried the schnitzel and seasonal white asparagus with hollandaise, Ham and cheese with potato rosti, white asparagus and hollandaise, several orders of the Crispy Pork Knuckles with sauerkraut. Delicious, memorable and hope to visit again someday. Service was the downside. Very impatient woman server with poor attitude who sighed and rolled her eyes at us.

I've tried German food many times before and this place was the best the German food place I have ever tried. I tried many dishes and all tasted fresh and authentic.

Lovely visit here. Came specifically for the kolsch. Fantastically refreshing on a hot, hot day. I had the cheese, butter, onion, and roll. Simple fare that was wonderful in every aspect. My wife and friend ordered the minced pork on roll. Known as Mett in Germany. We weren't aware this is raw ground and seasoned pork. We tried it, and it tasted fine, we just couldn't get past our own cultural biases on this one. Our server was great and I would highly recommend popping in.

I would love to rate this restaurant a 5 because of the ambiance and service. It is a really cool place, the kind one expects when visiting Germany. My husband commented that he felt like we were in Epcot, LOL, which until this trip was the closest we had gotten you visiting Germany. My grandmother is from Cologne and I really expected the best German food. Well, we were so disappointed and honestly could not even eat the sauerbraten because the meat had a funky taste and the gravy was sooooo salty, too salty to eat. The red cabbage, sauerkraut and dumplings were ok. But dumplings need gravy, and since we couldn't ear tfw gravy.... Also they no longer serve potato pancakes at all. I did not realize that i was reading a 12 year old review about them, which was why we chose this restaurant. HOWEVER, as I said, the staff was unusually helpful and cheerful unlike most of our experiences in German restaurants over the last week. Because if that and the ambiance, i would definitely give this place a try and assume that maybe it was just an off night for food.

Came here after walking aroung Köln's Christmas markets. It was cold and Yelp steered me here. The place looked familiar which is why it caught my eye, like Rick Steves himself had been there before. There was a bit of a wait, but it was well worth it. We were seated picnic style with some very nice locals. They were very gracious and despite the language barrier helped us pick out the Kolsch beer and for the entree, one of the specialties, the roast leg of pork. The beer is absolutely delicious... crisp and refreshing. Exactly what I need after a long day of walking and drinking that mulled wine. Our roast pork was delicious and served alongside potatoes with onions and mushrooms. The meat was flavorful tender and cooked perfectly. Highly recommend this place... Very authentic Köln experience.

The food was amazing. Our server Louis was wonderful. The potato soup was awesome. If we didn't live so far away, we would be back!

We came here on a weekday for lunch and it wasn't that busy. I can see it getting more packed for lunch. So glad they have an English menu here because we don't speak a lick of German. We got items off the lunch menu: the sausage and the knuckle. They were really big portions for the price. The sausage was okay. I didn't find it that special compared to your average sausage. The potatoes on the side were really good though. On the other hand, the knuckle was really tender and I liked that way more. Not a big fan of mashed potatoes in general so they were okay. Everything was super salty though; I'm not sure if it was meant to be that way so that your beer would cut the salt. Their house beer is super cheap so definitely give that a go just for the experience. Side note: our waiter was really nice and attentive.

It is exactly what it should be. Cold beer in a small glass, liver sausage and bread, mettwurst , and leberkase is amazing. Very fine service and ambiance as well.

Tasty food served by lovely people in a central location. What's not to love? Oh and they have beer. So. Much. Beer. I had water but those around me seemed to really, really really enjoy the beer. Oh and watch out for the mustard. It's tasty but spicy. Proceed with caution!

My favorite Brauhaus in Cologne! Our favorite waiter, Kai gave us recommendations of what to do while in town and made us feel at home. Great schnitzel, wurst, cabbage, kolsch, and potatoes!

Great location and exceptional food! I got the Minced pork with roll and onions (Metthappen) and the Himmel un Äd. Get it. Don't overthink it. It is truly delicious! The service is a bit slow, but it is worth every minute.

Peters Brauhaus in Cologne Germany offers the cities's famous Kolsch beer. Kolsch beer is produced by a special brewing process by which ale yeast is fermented in a warm medium and then it is conditioned at cold temperatures like a lager. The result is a light refreshing lager. I enjoyed several with my university friend. Peters Brauhaus is located only a few blocks from Cologne Cathedral. It is a restaurant with a tented exterior sitting area. The restaurant has several rooms with a rustic ambiance mostly due to the bulky wood tables and chairs. The beautiful roof stained glass is an offsetting ambiance. It can best be described as an upscale beer hall. What sets it apart are the 2 Euro beer offerings and sociability a beer hall can generate. They have an extensive German food menu which is written in English and German. I had the potato soup (7 Euros) and it was hearty and tasty. The brats were good but not extraordinary, although the mustard was exceptional. It was the Kolsch beer that kept us there for several hours. Peters is open Mon-Thurs. from 11 am- Midnight, Fri & Sat 11 am-2:30 am and Sunday 11 am-Midnight. I was there on a Friday night. The practice of "keep them coming without the customer asking" is observed at Peters.

Really nicely laid out restaurant but definitely a tourist destination. The table we were given, with a reservation, was so small that our legs wouldn't fit under it. Even though it's their brewery, they only served small glasses of their beer. Food was OK but nothing special. Service was good but when it was time to pay, the just gave the amount not an itemized bill. Wouldn't go back.

It's a Cologne legend, and I'm glad I tried it. I watched Anthony Bourdaine and ordered everything that he did: Metthappen for appetizer and Himmel and Aud. Both were new to me, both were unique flavors that I'm glad I tried. And lots of beer in an old German bier haus atmosphere.

Excellent place to eat & have a Great Cologne Kolsch! I was last there in 2012 during a trip to Europe I would HIGHLY recommend the experience if you are near Cologne.

Fantastic experience here. Sat down in a fun comfortable environment. Staff was exceptional. Food was delivered before we could finish a single beer. Ate amazing food and stayed for more beer. Do not pass this place up while in Cologne.

Alright, let's get weird with it. Just came in from 3 days in Belgium. Basically, the best meal I had there was a bag of potatoes chips I found in the gutter outside my Novotel. I've had better meals made by toddlers out of Play-Doh than the food I had in Belgium. So as you can assume.... I'm starving. I roll in to Peters Brauhaus. My Uber driver swears this place delivers so I pop through the door like Bieber and immediately fist bump the owner- who turns out to be a tourist from Norway. Whoops. Doesn't matter. Nobody saw. Here for the food. Let's go baby. I don't speak German so it's basically throwing darts at a menu for me and I randomly select the "Topf Schweiemedaillion mit Chaampignons , Gitmüse" "Oh hell ya- I order this ALL THE TIME in The States!" - I say to a disappointed waitress. 10 minutes later... I'm an emotional mess... like Taylor Swift dropped an album on my birthday emotional. Best food I've ever had. Hands down. Cant stop crying. So happy. PS. If you're going to Belgium, pack a sandwich.
