I really wanted to love this place. The interior is great and it’s clear they’re aiming to do something thoughtful with the menu, but overall I left feeling disappointed.
The highlights were the wontons, which were genuinely good, and the classic fried wheat noodles — both dishes I’d happily return for.
Unfortunately, some of the other dishes really fell short. The fried chicken was extremely oily, and I ended up biting into a lot of cartilage, to the point where I had to spit out several pieces. I appreciate that this can happen with more authentic, street-style fried chicken, but at this price point I expected a better cut and cleaner eating experience. Perhaps I was just unlucky, but it did detract from the meal.
The steamed bao were the biggest disappointment: flat, barely filled, and not hot enough. Given how simple bao can be when done well, this was quite gutting. The cucumber salad was fine, but fairly unremarkable.
Overall, I’d say this is worth a visit if you’re less familiar with this style of food, or if you’re specifically craving good wontons and fried noodles. However, if you’ve had genuinely good bao and similar dishes elsewhere, it may not quite meet expectations.
