We are big fans of Petite Provence locations and always try and stop by when we're near one. The food here was wonderful, as always. I got the Mediterranean Chicken Salad and a cup of the French Onion Soup. My son got a Jalapeno Mac and Cheese special, and my husband got the Baked Eggs. All of them came out hot and fast and fresh. The waitress forgot our Croissant we had ordered as an app, but brought us THREE to take with us when we mentioned it. Above and beyond, and she was very nice. That raspberry jam they have is worth its weight in gold. They were clearly understaffed, so if I have any feedback it is to staff some additional servers for the floor so your existing staff isn't having to run around so frantically.

I was really excited about trying this restaurant on our trip to Portland but left feeling very disappointed. We ordered take out..Monte Cristo sandwich and corned beef hash breakfast. First thing I noticed was the jam for my sandwich was missing..I didn't want to send my poor husband back in after driving for 2 days from MI..Then I noticed the sandwich was 95% bread! Barley any ham at all... also extremely little corned beef on my husband's breakfast...I honestly saw like 3 tiny strands..this is not acceptable when you fork out $38 for breakfast! The crossaint was good...lol

Apparently this is a chain but I was not aware of this. I was looking for a light breakfast and drove downtown through the Dalles on a Saturday morning. Saw the sign and a parking spot nearby so decided to try it. Lovely small dining room. Not too noisy and I found a quiet table in the anteroom just outside the main dining area. My eggs benedict, fresh orange juice and fruit was very good. And the coffee was strong and black the way I like it. I could have had a more elaborate coffee but just needed a shot of caffeine to get going. My only ding is that I asked the eggs for the dish to be cooked through, not runny. They were very runny. Not my favorate but still delicious. Bonus. I picked up a couple of great Marionberry Cheesecakes for desert at home. Great little find.

Quality of food here is out of this world! What is this place doing in The Dalles? They serve breakfast, lunch, and brunch and have a patisserie and boulangerie in-store. Petite Provence is rated 4.5 out of 5 on Tripadvisor. They are ranked #1 out of 62 restaurants in The Dalles and it's obvious why. The croissants melt in your mouth and come with a delicious raspberry sauce. Corned beef hash was full flavored topped with 2 eggs. Bacon was cooked to perfection in wide, thick strips. Unfortunately, they were out of the chocolate croissants. Quality espresso drinks. Very busy spot. So happy we stopped here and highly recommend!

Chef Review: Top notch! Great care and execution of cuisine. I had the Chefs Omelette for breakfast. Nice crispy hashbrowns, flavorful Omelette. Well presented and executed! Will be coming back on the regular 👍 Highly recommended!

I love Petite Provence, The Dalles location was just as wonderful. I love the branding with the black and gold exterior. It really dresses up the business on 2nd street. The interior is lovely as well with their signature lighting, tile and beautiful tables. I have been to several La Provence and Petite Provence, all have been consistently beautiful, delicious and clean. We visited on a Saturday morning which was expectantly busy. We were greeted kindly as we walked in the door. We thought we were going to grab a savory breakfast sandwich to go but we didn’t see one on the menu. The nice server said she could make us a breakfast type of sandwich to go. The sandwich was incredibly warm and delicious. It came with sliced ham, melted cheese and a fried egg on a buttery fresh croissant. My husband and I devoured the scrumptious sandwich. For a sweet treat my husband surprised me with an apricot pastry. It was of course fresh and scrumptious. The center of the pastry had a delicious egg cream style filling with 4 halved apricots on top. I absolutely loved it!

Google
My family and I have been to The Dalles location many times. It is a great place with good French food and pastries offered at very reasonable prices. This location is a part of a small chain of French-inspired restaurants and bakeries. Due to its popularity, there's often a wait, especially on the weekend, but it is worth it. Generally, it's well run and the food is of good quality most of the time, although I did have to send back an order of Nortwest Salmon Hash a few weeks ago at a different location. They don't take reservations and seat diners on a first come, first served basis. Their bakery items are tasty and of high quality.

Google
I greatly enjoy their desserts, but for Thanksgiving I purchased this lovely turkey shaped bread that is sure to be a big hit with the family! He is so cute he almost looks like he could hop into my chicken run and live a life of luxury there. I suggest you try their desserts, pastries and other menu items. Very friendly staff and cozy atmosphere, too.

Yelp
To me, nothing feels like a bigger miracle than finding a place with gluten free bread that is dog friendly. We were driving through the Dalles and wanted a quick bite and ended up stopping in here. They have a front section of the restaurant that is dog friendly, since it is technically separate from the main part. They had a peppermint espresso martini on the menu and I had to try it. It was lovely! I got the tuna melt on gluten free with a side salad and loved it! The salad veggies were so fresh and the creamy balsamic was a hit. My boyfriend loved the monte cristo and the berry crepes. Our server was lovely and gave us a few great recs for where to go after our meal. Everyone there was very kind and warm. I will be back next time I pass through!

Yelp
So... we ordered the "Vegan chorizo and tofu scramble" which is described as "A hearty tofu scramble made with vegan chorizo, spinach, red onions and our paprika-roasted potatoes. Finished with vegan sour cream with cilantro. Served with toast or butter croissant." We got: breakfast potatoes with a scrambled EGG to the side, smothered in pasty black beans, and some, maybe vegan, chorizo under the potatoes. No bread/croissant. And even weirder, I can't find any item on their published menu that even has black beans. Because this was to-go and we were 15 minutes away before we looked at the food, we couldn't get it fixed. Wow! After several phone calls the restaurant agreed to fully refund our meal.

Yelp
Old world feel, like you could get slapped by your grandma for saying negative things about your sister. Good food, service was okay, you're not waiting for anything but have low expectations or just be a patient person. Limited options for diet restrictions, however, things like butter and milk (dairy) are so good. It's worth the bubble gut and mutt butt.

Kathleen W.

Yelp
The food was exceptional, really really good! Service was on the slow side but the waitress was super sweet and gave us some yummy macarons as an "I'm sorry"! I hope she is on the slow side again soon haha. Definitely recommend.

Yelp
We came here twice during our stay in Hood River. The first time we came it was simply divine! We had great food, great service, they weren't too busy and we thoroughly enjoyed everything we had. The croissants were fluffy warm and buttery, the raspberry jam is delicious. My husband's chicken chipotle sandwich was also delicious. the drinks were fantastic, and we got extra croissants and a lemon tart to go. On our way out of town, we decided to stop by for a final breakfast. This visit was terrible. There were several tables waiting to be bussed and servers did not see the opportunity to grab dishes as they passed these tables empty-handed. A party of six came in, and they rearranged tables that trapped one woman into the corner, and practically put another customer at the same table as an entirely different party. Just watching this gave me severe anxiety lol. We ordered the daybreak meal and I've had better food at a diner. The scrambled eggs were severely overdone, the hashbrowns lacked any flavor, and the bacon was overcooked. The croissants were still amazing and we still took some home. The coffee was delicious, but the service seemed frantic and disorganized.

Yelp
What a fun place! Cute French cafe with excellent service and food. Our lunch was delicious. We had the Monte Carlo sandwich, the baked eggs a La francaise and the eggs Bennie. So good!

Mike L.

Yelp
If you're looking for taste and classy this is it! The breakfast and lunch have never disappointed with with world class bakery goods. You can substitute a croissant instead of toast to aid that French flair to your meal! The jam and jellies are the best ever tasted in a restaurant! Portions are big enough we split some breakfasts so we can afford to come more often! Little higher priced that some but the quality is so superior in taste it's a treat for a special occasion or date! It's in the same location as the original Johnny's Cafe an icon in The Dalles from 1950-1990's... I moved but am back fifty years later and that location reminds me of a special treat! Jennifer is the friendliest server ever! She brings class to the place!

Amy D.

Yelp
Excellent dessert pastries! We had the pistachio cheesecake, lemon tart, mango dome (not sure on the exact name) - all were delicious. Surprisingly, our favorite item was the coffee! A 12oz two shot americano and it was the best coffee I've had in the gorge area.

Dave B.

Yelp
Petit has THE BEST latte in town! I don't know how they do it, but it's consistently magic in a cup-luscious foam in every sip & a deep, deliciously flavored espresso! For food, we ordered the Triple Berry Crepes & Corned Beef Hash & aside of bacon. Our only slight critique is that the hash could've had more corned beef. Petit has great service & ambiance!

Sandra L.

Yelp
Yummy food, excellent service, and cozy atmosphere. Will definitely make this a regular stop on our trips through the Dalles!

Bill C.

Yelp
Their food is always good, I enjoy the feeling that it's not a fast food restaurant or a chain even though it is I look for one when I'm on the road since there's not one in my town

Dylan T.

Yelp
What a treat! I ordered a latte and baked eggs a la Francois. Both were fantastic. The baked eggs were cheesy, creamy and stayed hot the whole meal in their little cast iron pot. They came with toast sticks and some amazing hot sauce and raspberry jam. Service and ambiance were also delightful.

Marsha H.

Yelp
Food was good service was good. Ambiance & decor were good, especially for being in a small town. However my latte was lukewarm and the strength of the coffee was weak. I had to find another coffee later.

Joel B.

Yelp
Very good food! And it's rare to find an authentic French bakery with legit French pastries! I had the chipotle chicken sandwich, and tiramisu, both were excellent! I'll definitely be back!

Bianca R.

Yelp
While visiting family in The Dalles, I found Petite Provence online and HAD to go there. The ambiance is wonderful and the employees are friendly and helpful. There are seven of us and they seated us quickly and made us feel at home. The food is amazing! The bakery is awesome!! The drinks are excellent! I want to come back and try everything on the menu. I purchased gift cards so my son and his family can come back often. If you live in The Dalles or are just visiting, you have to come here!

Selena N.

Yelp
We stopped here to get some coffee and a bite. We had to wait quite awhile. Their service was pretty slow. To me it was a resource issue. Only two people working their butts off. I was patient and kind, but it was a long wait for a coffee or croissant. I wouldn't go back to be honest

Matt M.

Yelp
Loved everything ive ever eaten here and the Bloody Marys are great

John C.

Yelp
Great lunch. Flew in to the airport with my daughter who just received her pilot license and came by here for lunch. Did not realize it was the same restaurant that we enjoy in Lake Oswego, just more petite. Ha. I get it now. I had the Risotto Cakes and Eggs. Great flavor and the perfect serving size. The risotto had a great flavor with the bacon, asparagus, mushrooms onions and basil. They were fried up with the perfect crunch outside. The eggs were cooked just fine on top of the cakes. My wife and daughter split the chipotle chicken sandwich. That was a great call as it was more than enough for both of them. They really enjoyed it. The service was good and we must have hit a good window cause we got a table right away. We've waited well over an hour for the one on Lake Oswego on the weekend.

Ellen W.

Yelp
I have never had a bad service experience at this place. The food always tastes fresh, the baked goods/bread/pastries are delicious. Whenever I have visitors from out of town I bring them here because they have the best service in town in my opinion. Highly recommend!

Terrene R.

Yelp
Such a wonderful little find in The Dalles! Stopped in for a bite before we headed back home to Idaho. We were thrilled that the lunch sandwiches were available for breakfast. Husband and I split the Monte Carlo with potato salad, and thank goodness we did because it was a HUGE sandwich! Our lattes were perfect, and service impeccable. Couldn't resist taking a loaf of French bread, some almond and chocolate croissants, and a fancy Pink Lady dessert to take home. Take the time to stop by this gem......you won't be disappointed!

Chris W.

Yelp
What an awesome spot! I live in California and am used to fantastic food culture, and often when I visit family in The Dalles, I struggle to find decent food. My brother-in-law recommended Petite Provence and we absolutely loved it! We came in on Christmas Eve and it was festive and they had a great seasonal menu. I especially loved the hot toddy. The whole staff chatted with us at one point or another and everyone was SO friendly. The food was delicious and came out really quick. We loved it so much we even ended up getting last minute gift cards from there for our family. This will be our "go-to" spot for future visits.

Susan C.

Yelp
Busy downtown bakery with ample foodie choices for lunch. Great wait staff and generous portion sizes influenced my four star posting. I ordered the salad with salmon and my girlfriend the checken. The greens were fresh and crisp accompanied with a great dressing. The salmon was too dry, old (maybe reheated) and the chicken a little dry. We did t opt for dessert but that is I visibly their specialty. Yummy cases of all kinds of colorful delectable s. I wish my diet could afford them-all of them! The place is small, thus petite and Covid rules are reinforced. Lovely little downtown Dalles spot.

Kelcy D.

Yelp
Stopped in around 11am, right before the lunch rush. Got a table right away. They have outside and indoor seating. Ordered the Smoked Salmon Hash, Risotto  cakes and eggs, and a Bloody Mary flight. Each entree came with your choice of an English muffin or croissant and house made raspberry jam. Get the flakey, buttery croissant! Yum!  Both dishes were delicious.  The risotto was so flavorful! Would definitely make the drive for that.  We really liked the spicy Bloody Mary. The restaurant also has baked bread and pastries. Got a baguette and danish to go.  Our server was friendly and we loved our breakfast.  Definitely worth a stop!

Rachelle K.

Yelp
The food was amazing! We had the Bloody Mary, White chocolate Carmel espresso, baked eggs, corn beef hash, chef omelette, and kids pancakes. Everything was delish and we all left over full! Our server was attentive and great in answering questions about the menu. We sat inside on a Sunday mid morning and the place was consistent but it did not feel crowded nor uncomfortable. It was very inviting!

Carmen S.

Yelp
If all you eat here are the croissants, you are still ahead of the game. I tried their clam chowder for the first time today, though, and Oh, My. Speaking as one who makes it at home, from scratch, on a regular basis: I have a new gold standard. To die for. Now - the Hillsboro location does better coffee. But The Dalles has AMAZING chowder. We arrived just before the lunch rush, and they were understaffed, so service was slow or non-existent, but still super-friendly when they did come by, so no deduction in stars; just go before noon. Also, the whiskey sauce for the seasonal French toast is mighty tasty! Worth a visit.

Qui-Gon G.

Yelp
Stopped here on our way to Yakima from Portland. Saw the reviews and decided to try it. So glad we did! Excellent customer service. You feel like you're at home - in Provence. The staff was very friendly. The food was awesome as well. Best orange juice I ever had.

Kristina W.

Yelp
Cute tiny place! Great coffee, the food was great and the pastry is always delicious at petite Provence! We got food to go as we were driving through the states. The service was fast too

Kim G.

Yelp
A fan of the various Petite Provence restaurants in and around Portland, I was thrilled to discover one in The Dalles. Whether you want an excellent cup of coffee, a legit croissant or delicious desert, or a satisfying meal, you can get it all right here. Oh, and they offer Bloody Mary and Mimosa flights! The Monte Crisco sandwich is a hearty lunch! The hame and cheese sandwiches between two slices of bread, dipped in egg, fried and dusted with powdered sugar. Yum! Their scrambles are also fabulous and they come with a side of toast or croissant, which is what I always choose. Buttery and crisp on the outside, light and fluffy inside, they are legit. As good as croissants I've had in France and I don't offer that compliment lightly. The French onion soup is to die for! The Greek salad with grilled chicken, fresh and crisp, is alway satisfying. The quiche is baked perfectly and so delicious served with a side of greens. I could go on and on! Highly recommendation picking up bread, pastries and desert to go. The fig walnut loaf is my favorite of the breads. For pastries I like the flower shaped croissant with sweet strawberries in the center. And for dessert, the chocolate ganache covered mini Opera Cake always satisfies. The cafe is small and has the quaint French charm with black & cream drapes and rattan chairs. With warm and inviting service to match! Located downtown, this is where you should stop if you are passing through The Dalles. And if I lived here, this would be my weekly brunch and treat spot!

Denise Downs ..

Yelp
Chocolate Hazelnut eclairs. They are heavenly, and absolutely NOTHING compares Sometimes I'll be running errands, and it's like there's a beacon sounding, just for me, coming straight from the bakery display counter. Mmm, so beautiful! You have to try this place for breakfast though. I'm telling you, it's a must just for that eclair alone....im drooling now..... ;)

Patty B.

Yelp
The ambiance at this little gem was wonderful! Service was gracious, excellent and attentive to our needs. Petite Provence in The Dalles just served us the best breakfast we can remember in a very long time. Thinking we should change our future travel plans from Scotland to France! The best eggs Benedict I remember ever having! They use a freshly made croissant rather than the heavier English muffin. They make their own Hollandaise which was simply divine, cream-based, very light and delicious. Eggs were poached to perfection - creamy yolks!. And Jim rates his corned beef hash a 10! It was served with a wonderful sauce - I am guessing made with creme fraiche with a delightful hint of horseradish. For fun, we picked up some croissants and macaroons for the road. So glad we discovered this gem - we usually stop at PFriem Brewery on our way through but today we were too early for that or for the Double Mountain Brewery, whose pizzas are fun. P. S. French Connection cocktail was delicious though a bit on the sweet side. Jim was designated driver so had decaf coffee!

J S.

Yelp
Very good! Our breakfast was so good. Our server was friendly and fast. The COFFEE yes!!!! Perfect flavor and strength. Our only disappointment was that the daily offering of baked goods was very slim pickings, we were not locals so sadly lots of things we weren't able to try. Many things had sold out. The croissants... hands down the best we've had (even beats our go to favorite- Costco) Kids meals were even above par!

S L.

Yelp
I pulled off the interstate looking for a cup of coffee. I wasn't expecting anything fancy just a 12 ounce coffee. But then I found Petite Provence. They have exceptional cappuccino, and the baked goods were exceptionally good; I liked the bagel so much I went back for seconds with a almond crescent. Worth every calorie. This will be a regular stop from now on.

Gregory S.

Yelp
We picked Petite Provence for lunch basically because of the name. The ambiance is of a nice storefront bakery with maybe a dozen tables. We were directed to sit anywhere. The choice of seating was complicated by the fact the there we dirty dishes on several tables. Customers who arrived after us had to wait for tables to be cleaned. On the recommendation of our waiter, my wife ordered Baked Eggs a la Francaise. I ordered Chef's Omelet with Provençal Potatoes and Butternut Squash. My wife noted that in other restaurants the Chef's Omelet would be called a California Omelet. It was very good. Potatoes and squash combination is something that I will order every time. The potatoes were perfectly cooked and the squash was melt in your mouth delicious. I tried some of my wife's baked eggs. If we ever get back to Petite Provence, I will order the baked eggs. We took home some of the individual desserts. They were good but not good enough to buy again.

Michelle O.

Yelp
On a recent trip to Oregon we were staying in Hood River and looking for a place to get breakfast. Not far away we found this treasure! I went to France a few years ago so any decent French place brings me right back and I find my happy place. So we started with a Croissant which was absolutely amazing! Just the perfect crunch to the outside layer and wonderful buttery layers inside. It also comes with this amazing house made jam. We also had a tasty Bloody Mary and I had the Mimosa flight and I just loved that! Fantastic choice of juices which was fun :). Also had a Cafe Au Lait which was perfectly prepared. For breakfast we did the Corned Beef Hash and another dish that I cannot remember but it was delicious (see pic). If you get the chance to try this place you should. Very tasty, nice atmosphere, and great service. If you just want some delicious croissants, bread, or Danish they have those types of things for takeout as well.

Jennifer W.

Yelp
My favorite is the corned beef hash, bloody Marys for breakfast and french onion soup for lunch! Small place and always busy. Love the decor and pastry counter.

Corey L.

Yelp
Chicken Mediterranean Salad was delicious! My croissant was as big as my head!! Perfectly flaky and buttery!

Sara F.

Yelp
Great food and friendly service. Tuna melt and BLT were very delicious and satisfying

Joni P.

Yelp
Oh my gosh we found a new gem (to us) at The Dalles in the Columbia Gorge. Billy was suppose to take Hood River exit on way home from Skamania Lodge. I was distracted on my phone & looked up as we passed the last exit. Anyway back to review. We had a great breakfast

Melodie D.

Yelp
Super yummy, the staff are nice but always rushing. I wish they could hire another person to take some pressure off. They also need a bigger location. The macarons are yum but sometimes taste freezer burnt. And the worst part?? They run out of chocolate croissants all the time - so make sure you get there before 9:30 if you want one!

Pennie P.

Yelp
The food was absolutely incredible! Service was perfect, even though there was just the one person there ( I believe may have been one of the owners) Got busy, but he took care of everyone like they were the only ones there. The atmosphere... recalls a few little bistros in France that I have been in. I cannot ask for more. Wish I lived closer to be able to enjoy this wonderful place on more regular basis.

Marjorie H.

Yelp
Food fresh, well prepared. Service was friendly. Very French modern bakery. Loved the Napoleon!

Paula F.

Yelp
Delicious food, good and friendly service. A great place for Breakfast or lunch. You can dine in or take out.

Alexa D.

Yelp
We drove out to The Dalles from Portland for my DMV appointment that I booked two months ago (this was actually the closest appointment that I was able to book at the time). Petit Provence was a treat to find before returning home. Ramy and I agree that these were the best croissants that either of us have had in at least years, if not ever. I think it is worth mentioning that the two of us have been to France several times. We feel Petite Provence really lives up to its name. We enjoyed our food and the atmosphere of this sweet cafe. Our food was delicious: everything tasted fresh, buttery, and warm. The cafe itself is welcoming and cozy, decorated with cute black-and-white drapes, beautiful paintings, and well, the food display case with all of those delicious-looking treats. We stepped into another world if only for just an hour. If I ever find myself in The Dalles again, I will certainly make an effort to visit Petit Provence and next time I will pick up some macarons, which I regretted not buying before leaving. :-)

Janet K.

Yelp
Decided to give this one a try and doubt we'll return. The place is clean, neat, and interesting, the staff are fine, my complaint stems from the price of a sandwich which wasn't that great to begin with. My partner and I each had a sandwich, glass of wine, and brought 3 pastries home to the tune of $70 (not including the $14 tip which we did NOT leave). Pastries were fine-ish but the sandwiches were definitely not worth their price. Have no plans to return -

Kathleen M.

Yelp
My husband and I enjoyed a special lunch at this delightful restaurant. We were looking for a place for lunch when passing through The Dalles, Oregon. We were delighted with our choice. I enjoyed the Tuna melt-made with absolutely great bread and prepared perfectly. My husband enjoyed the Northwest salmon hash. We added a Napoleon pastry to go-it was exquisite.

Brad L.

Yelp
Great food, especially the croissant (it's my favorite with the jam that they serve with it). I have tried several of their breakfast offerings and all have not been a disappointment. Service was way above par and the coffee is hot and has a lot of flavor. The dining area is nicely done and the atmosphere is quite pleasing.

Lily P.

Yelp
These prices are insane for a sandwich almost ranging to $16-20 like geez it wasn't even that good

Emily C.

Yelp
Had terrible service from their male server. Super rude person who has zero patients and should not be in the customer service business. I like the food but will never eat there if he is my server.
