Petrified Forest

280 million year old washed away pine trees, no roots, all lying flat some 40 m long, one is 2 m wide and thus probably was 80 m in length or more orignally. Well worth the 30 mins walk. Cost about 400N per person. Guides are friendly and knowledgeable.

It’s a cute little stop albeit quick and over-priced. Our guide was lovely and explained the process of petrification well. The Welwitschia plant was just as interesting to us, it’s unique to this region. The price was 270 and I posted a picture of the fees below. There are several “petrified forests” along this road so I wonder if some folks reviewing here went to a different one?

More than 200 million years ago. Interesting and intriguing at the same time to think about time in that context. If you like that kind of thing. It is worth a visit.

Very interesting and nice place. The guide named Dion was very informative and nice, we had a wonderful tour. Be minded visiting the official NHC site, the area is covered with a lot private and not-professional sites for petrified forest.

I love how seriously they caution and promote heritage conservation. We were not allowed to take any rock samples be it loose or intact, beautiful works of nature.🙏🏽

What an amazing experience this was. To see an old tree that is now a rock. It is a must do if you ever in the area. It's totally amazing. Our guide John was very friendly and helpful.

High price, tourist scam. You can see the pertrified forest wood everywhere for free along the way into Damara land.
