A complete spur of the moment stop turned out to be a real big treat. Absolutely amazing wood creations. Volunteers are delightful, Betty especially. I saw things I'd never imagine existed made from wood. Free admission. Fun gift shop. Be sure to go in when you're going through Ogallala.

Very polite and helpful curators, neat little gift shop, and so, so many amazing artifacts to enjoy.

Not to be missed! This is not a "rock shop" or souvenir store (although they do have very reasonably priced items in the gift shop); rather, this is a legitimate museum of one of the best collections of petrified wood imaginable. Also an immense collection of native American tools, artwork, and arrowheads. Free to enter and photos are encouraged. My grandkids (8 and 10) were very impressed!

Google
The Petrified Wood Gallery was a 2024 Nebraska Passport Stop for us...number 49 I believe. We were warmly greeted coming into the Gallery and given an overview of how it was laid out. We spent a fair amount of time looking at the different displays as there were some very unique items to view -- some native to the area, and others gathered from all over the world.

Fabulous! Most amazing petrified wood we've ever seen, gorgeous geodes, wonderful Indian artifacts. A hidden gem!

if you are driving to Colorado or visiting Lake Mac, this is the place you need to visit. And if you have kids, you don't want to miss this place. It would blow your expectations. I did not expect to visit a place like this in the middle of nowhere. A gentleman who was volunteering that day know a lot about the museum and have a love for it. They would take their time to show you around and explain. I have felt like I am more wiser after i have visited that place (not kidding). Tried to take some nice pictures, but they are more beautiful in the real life.

This place is amazing!!!!. I went to the city just to visit this gallery. Owned by twin brothers. I have never seen such a great collection anywhere else in the region. They also showcase their own works. Absolute must to visit this gallery. They also have a shop with some great gift ideas.

Yelp
Wow!! If you are into this sort of thing or even curious. You have come to the right spot!! Amazing what these brothers have collected and built with petrified wood. Great collection. Just wish some of the items were up for sale. Donations accepted but otherwise free so definitely a great value. Greeted with a friendly smile and felt very welcome.

Yelp
Hidden gem! Beautiful, pictures cannot capture the beauty. It's been over a year and I still think about this place and tell all my friends passing through! Absorb all the beauty it's truly one of a kind

Yelp
The brothers are sweet and greet you when you walk in. They take turns showing you around. It's absolutely lovely and has petrified wood, local artists, a Native American collection, and other assorted rocks and art. It's a great stop off I-80 if you're going across it. Stop for half an hour to stretch your legs, teach your children, and look at a collection they've been amassing since the mid-1950s. These Korean Veterans are doing good for the local community by keeping this open to the public. Now they only need to make some petrified wood drink coasters!

Yelp
What a fascinating place to visit! We wouldn't have learned about this place if we weren't participating in the Nebraska Passport program. Very friendly staff and interesting displays. Very educational. We bought a handful of petrified wood in the gift shop as souvenirs.

Yelp
We found this little gem of a place on our trip out west from Wisconsin. We really enjoyed looking at all the rocks, fossils, arrowheads, and especially the carved petrified wood. The manager was very helpful and knowledgeable.

Yelp
Occupies a store front on Front Street, an "old-cowboy" feeling area in downtown Ogallala. It's a great quick stop if you like to look at rocks and petrified wood. It's FREE, donations accepted, and the people the greet you usually ask you to put a pin in their map for your hometown. The thing I love about this gallery isn't really the gallery, though-- it's the gift shop. A bit on the pricey side, you can get anything from candle holders to goblets to vases. Again, expensive, but everything is just so darned cool. I am a local and take all of my guests here if we have some free time, and no one ever leaves without buying something. I myself did a lot of Christmas shopping here.

Yelp
Great place to visit when in Ogalalla. Nancy at the reception desk is very nice and the specimens were from all over the world!

Yelp
If you even get near Ogallala, NE, you absolutely must stop to see Howard and Harvey Kenfield @ their Petrified Wood and Art Gallery. The twin bros were in the Korean War, so thank them for their service first, then be prepared to take in all they have to offer. If they happen to be busy with other visitors, watch them on the telly, look for the "steps" they have posted to tell you how they do their work, and don't leave before you talk to them in person. This gallery is an extraordinary treat of natural treasures (the petrified wood and art) and national treasures (the twins). Allow enough visiting time to do it justice.

Yelp
Amazing place. So friendly and amazing things to see! Very cool gift shop as well. Will definitely go again.

Gary W.

Yelp
One of the best art galleries I've ever visited. This is a gem! ...and the staff is great. ...and only 2 minutes off interstate 80. Thank you to the twin brothers Howard and Harvey Kenfield for sharing your work with the world.

Sara C.

Yelp
If you are passing through or in town to visit the lake go visit this sweet little place. The brothers are very nice and so proud (as they should be) of this establishment and what they have created. A lot of interesting things to see and a nice piece of preserved history. Donations are highly appreciated and I would recommend as this is a non-profit that runs with the help of volunteers and donations.

Yelp
I took my very first trip to Nebraska over the holidays and one of my stops included visiting the Petrified Wood Gallery in Ogallala, NE. For me this was an incredible visit. I had never seen so many different types of Petrified Wood from all over the world. I got to meet and tour with Harvey and Howard Kenfield, and it only enhanced the experience. They have so much knowledge and talent when it comes to the work shown in the gallery. Featured in the gallery were some carefully crafted designs by the twins themselves as well as collections from local artists and petrified wood from all over the world. I HIGHLY recommend making this a MUST SEE when staying in Ogallala or even just passing through Nebraska on Route 80.
