Petřín Gardens

Incredible nature walk through a place that just keeps on giving! I absolutely love how the entire place is not only vibrant but very intellectual speaking, with not 1 or 2 but 100s of different ways you can explore the gardens, all with beatiful views and things like that. The highest points of the gardens aren't as good as the lower to mid parts in elevation because you are getting closer to normal Prague and it isn't as touristy as lower or mid Petřín gardens.

A peaceful walk behind the Mala Strana. The American Embassy on a hill, uphill but manageable. Has fruit trees and a really nice view of the city. Good for dog walkers, families, runners etc. A good way away from all the tourists. Near to the abbey and streets.

Walking through Petrin Gardens was a wonderful experience on a Sunny Saturday September afternoon. Despite it's urban location, exploring the park felt as though stepping into a rural idyll. The park sits on one of the number of hills which shape ans characterise Prague. This elevation allows for vistas over the city and beyond into the bucolic countryside of Central Bohemia. Many of Prague's most famous tourist spots can be viewed from both the park and especially the tower within it. It is, in my opinion, worth paying the 250czk (or 400 to take the lift) to scale this monster and get a true appreciation of the scale of the city and it's surroundings. You'll likely only be here once so why not. After this experience I would recommend lingering a while in the park. I chose to ameliorate this experience further by drinking a delicious locally brewed coconut hazy ipa and having a few snacks I'd picked up from shops nearby, but there are a number of cafes and other food outlets in the park should the want or need take you. I will note that this park may be difficult to traverse for those with mobility issues due to the number of stairs and uneven surfaces present here. Children may also find this tiring but I imagine that could be a good thing (don't have any so can't say for sure).

initially went for a walk around here, then i wanted to see the tower nearby. I got into a dead end and also got to see the US embassy. there should be signs for directions because my google maps didnt work at that time. it is a great place to escape from the city heat

In Prague, Petřín Gardens — or as we call it, pražská pomsta — is one of those places that always makes you work a little to earn its beauty. The uphill walk can feel endless, and even the cabin often has a long queue or isn’t working, but it’s worth it once you reach the top. The gardens are full of green, laughter, and joy — people everywhere just enjoying the city from above. You can grab a drink, a snack, and take in the view that makes you fall in love with Prague all over again. At least once in life, you have to go here — it’s that kind of place.

It’s a maze of beauty and nature. I highly recommend going all around the area. There are very beautiful views of the city too.

It's a beautiful park. It's free. The gardens are quiet, romantic and very beautiful. If you start down the hill, and follow the path, you'll go across the cherry trees and have beautiful views of Prague. You can then reach the hunger wall and the beautiful gardens up the hill. If you are tired or lazy you can just grab the funicular uphill and walk down the hill and then grab a Gelato at Angelato, not far from there.

Beautiful garden with many trails and paths. A piece of Nature in the city with some fruit trees and many places to sit absorb the atmosphere and relax. The view of the city keeps getting better and better as you climb more up the hill. Super recommended

!! THIS REVIEW IS ABOUT THE CAFÉ ON THE GROUND FLOOR OF THE TOWER !! Uhh, did not want to be making this review, as I don't want to even think about wasting my time typing out one, but I thought I should give you a warning on the service. Food Quality ~ The dishes we had were 3 cakes and a cappuccino. The cappuccino came out super fast, and so did the cakes as they were refrigerated. The dishes were full of flavour and well-prepared. Service ~ The service was horrendous. The staff were the total opposite of attentive, friendly and efficient. When we first entered the café, there was nobody behind the till. This is because the girl on shift was sitting with a coworker at a table meant of customers eating some of the food that was being sold and drinking a coffee. They were laughing and talking obnoxiously in Czech. While we were ordering, the server was hard to communicate with us due to her struggle with English fluency, which is not her fault but just a warning for my English readers. It was quite a shocking experience as the server was quite rude and snappy with her responses as we ordered, which just made us feel uncomfortable and on edge. After we ordered, the coworker that she was gossiping with went behind the counter and started laughing and talking obnoxiously. It was such a shame to experience this, due to the fact the other staff working on attending the tower were lovely! After we finished, the till worker was sitting there scrolling on her phone, listening to obnoxiously loud videos. Right after she turned off her phone. instead of coming over and taking the dirty plates, the worker and her coworker straight up left the complex, leaving the till unattended. As a waitress/café worker, this behaviour is unexplainably ridiculous. Ambiance ~ It was a cold day, especially because the place is on top of a hill, and the heating inside the establishment was comfortable. The café had cute flower decorations, but other then that I'd describe it as just ordinary. Cleanliness ~ During our meal, the worker poured out the tip-jar and spread the coins along the counter which they were laying out orders on. She then began counting the money, which frankly grossed me out because afterwards she didn't wash her hands or wipe down the counter. On top of that, the tables and chairs surrounding us were drenched in crumbs and throughout our dining, no one cleaned it up. It seems to be a common theme, as our plates were simply left on the tables even though we had clearly finished and the staff were in visibly obvious sight. Value for Money ~ The prices are just meh. They're not too overpriced, not too cheap, just meh. Overall Experience ~ The only memorable part about our dining experience was the horrendous service and delicious cakes. Will NOT be going here again. The server just had an unacceptable attitude and it disgusted me. Do NOT dine here if a short woman with dark eyes and black hair with straight bangs is working, this is a warning! The only reason I'm even giving this place any stars at all is because of the taste of the food, however wouldn't recommend. You can go to a cheaper place with much more comforting and welcoming staff.

This is loosely based off Eiffel Tower. There are great views if the weather is clear. This is quite a walk from Old Town, but you can take the metro or walk if you're going to Charles Bridge anyway. Karmelitska will turn into Ujedtz Street and you'll see the park on the right. You will have to go in to buy tickets for the funicular or you will have a rough time walking that long & steep hill. It is 60 korunas/120 round trip. The lookout tower also costs money & the lift was not working that day so it was a very long and tiring climb up 208 feet. Take lots of pictures on the first level since the top is enclosed. There is a separate staircase for going up and one for coming down.

This became an unexpected highlight for us in Prague. While the park itself is pleasant to be in, the hill has a lot more to it. The main attraction is definitely the Petřín Tower. Be aware that the tower has no elevator, so you must climb stairs to get to the viewing areas. There is a lower one with an outdoor area, and another near the top, following an exhausting climb of several flights of stairs. However, the vista from up there is very rewarding, and worth the exhaustion. You get unparalleled views of just about anywhere in Prague, including Prague Castle, Charles Bridge, Old Town, Lesser Town, and Zizkov Tower. Another attraction is the Mirror Maze. It is fun and whimsical, although the last room, with the varieties of mirror designs, can be really slow-going due to the numerous photo opportunities (selfies?) While these relatively modern attractions are great, there is also the historical St. Lawrence Cathedral, which, despite not being particularly massive in size, looks pretty nice aesthetically. The food options are also good, and importantly much cheaper than in Old Town. Beer, trdelnik, dumplings, and bramboracky are all available in the food stalls next to the base of the tower. While you can climb to the top of the hill, you can also take the funicular, whose station is adjacent to the Ujezd tram stop. The funicular is considered to be part of Prague's transportation network, so day use transport tickets are valid.

I really wanted to skip Petrin Tower, since it was out the way, but I'm glad I didn't. My friend and I walked over from the Charles Bridge one morning. It was a LONG walk, especially with all the hills and stairs. We were already exhausted by the time we got there, so we were a little sad when we found out there was no lift to the top. However, the views were definitely worth the climb. You'll get an amazing view of Prague from a distance, and it's also much higher than the Powder Tower. The best part was probably seeing the Charles Bridge from above. I was able to visualize just how much we walked! Tickets are 150 CZK (or about $7) or if you are 26 and under and have a student ID, you can get a discount. Tip - there are two staircases (one for each direction) so make sure you're on the right one!

it was hard, we were tired but definitely an oasis in the middle of the town! So quiet here, so few people, it was a great moment. Fue duro, estábamos muy cansados pero definitivamente un oasis en el medio de la cuidad! Tan silencioso aquí, muy poca gente, fue un gran momento.

I hate to say I never made it to the top of Petrin Hill...BUT I did spend a considerable amount of time in the park itself. I was wandering solo and it started to get dark, so I headed back into the town to be safe. Other visits never culminated into anything, unfortunately. From what I saw, Petrin is a really nice, serene hill that overlooks the city. You can see plenty even if you don't hike all the way up to the top. I had awesome views of both Old Town and of the Castle. Plus, walking through the trails is really peaceful and nice...especially in the fall. I'd bet it's nice in springtime too! I'd love to return one day to get the full experience.

Petrin is an absolutely great park complete with tons of greeneries, a bunch of tables, play grounds and absolutely stunning views of Prague once you make the hike up. The park itself is fairly substantial in size and is very centrally located right across the river. Overall, definitely worthy of a visit and maybe even a picnic should weather permit. Pros- Large Well maintained Spectacular views Fairly clean Location Relaxation point Cons- Very dark at night Certain parts aren't so great

A must do when in Prague! Stunning views, a nice walk through the park, and a great climb. Once at the top, you'll be rewarded with stunning views. Loved every minute. Also, once you're done, enjoy a beer or two at the bar on the ground floor!

Ujezd ulice (street) has a tramvaj that easily goes up and down it. We arrived that way and grabbed something at Panera, and then started our fun jaunt. If one walks the entire length of Petřín hill, very very fun things can be spied upon...such as when Mozart lived during his visits to Bertramka hill *cable aerial to get there*, or the Memorial to the victims of Communism... Keep on going, use those muscles and go toward the other side of the hill, which sports the backside of all the foreign embassies. Somewhere around there, too, Beethoven once performed; guy used to live on 11 Lazenska. The classical nut I am... had to go visit! Petrin Hill is almost most famous for its funicular....ride it!! Unforgettable. Goes up to Nebožížek Restaurace. One side of the Petrin actually almost brushes against the Strahovsky Klaster with its famous library (Strahov monastery). Awesome for those who love history and hiking!

Picturesque view on all corners there are plenty of activities to do up here. It's a nice park over looking the castle and the city itself. Look out tower worth the visit at 120 crowns. Two platforms on the towers it is 350+ steps up. So tread lightly for those that aren't in marathon shape. Once up there you'll have a nice view of the whole city from all angles. Once you trek back down. Walk about 50m to your left for the mirror labyrinth.

We took the tram up to Petrin Hill, hoping for a brief respite from the crowds that seemed to clog the streets of Praha. Nope. The funicular was full to bursting on the way up. Thank goodness it's a short ride. I don't know how many loud conversations were going on over our heads the entirety of the trip, but there were a ton. Exiting the funicular station, you see the gardens in front of you (though the flowers weren't in bloom), and a path to your right that leads to the tower, cafe, park and paths. As the aforementioned group had exited to the right, we decided to check out the garden, which was blessedly quiet and mostly empty at that point. Walking the paths towards the garden, we stumbled upon an Observatory. It's right outside, but you can't really see it from the exit of the funicular. There are walking paths within the garden itself (but beware the tours on Segways), as well as several benches dotted around the perimeter, which allows visitors to relax while soaking up the sun. We did a brief tour of the gardens before making or way towards the tower and the park. The park certainly is gorgeous, and people know it. I would love to be able to lounge in the sun up there! While the garden and park were both fairly empty, the area in front of the tower (the base with the dessert shop and ticket booth) were full of people. There must have been several field trip groups that day - there were far too many children for it to be anything else. In fact, there were so many groups of children crawling up and down the steps of the tower that it stopped us from buying tickets to get up there ourselves. We settled on lounging on one of the many benches that faced out over the city below. It was quite lovely. At some point, we decided we wanted something sweet, so we went inside to the gelato cart. The hubs got himself a scoop of gelato, while I opted to go with what looked like a hazelnut tart from the counter around the corner. Bad idea. Not only was it bland, there was also a hair embedded in the hazelnut/caramel topping. GROSS. Oh, and speaking of gross - the only water closets up there are pay-to-use, and they are not clean. Keep that in mind if you have issues with public restrooms (I can't be the ONLY one out there, can I?!) When we finally decided to leave the hill, we chose to forgo the funicular and take the paths back down. I'm so glad we did. The paths - while a bit steep in places - are a beautiful way to get back down to the city. There are several different options that fork off the main path, but they all lead back to the bottom eventually. We made it a point of taking different forks as we went, and ended up stumbling upon a pond with a couple fountains, and then a resting area with a really spectacular view of the city. It's an easy and beautiful walk down - I highly recommend it (though I can't imagine making the climb up - it'd take three times as long for me to get up there!)

Hike up was really tiring... I found out you can actually just take the bus around to the top. That might be a better way to go up the hill and then walk down. There's a tower at the top where you can go up for a nice view of the city.

For some fresh air, ride the funicular from Ujezd to the top of Petrin Hill. One of Prague's greenest spaces, it includes landscaped gardens, a mini version of the Eiffel Tower, mirror maze and the church of St. Michael -- 17th century wooden building relocated here from a village in Ukraine for national enlightenment. How's that for a city park?

A gorgeous big park area in Prague that extends up the hills and down. We walked around this park a fair bit and our dog loves it here. We probably spent a good few hours walking around this park and at the top is the tower with stunning views and many other sections down below with different flora and fauna. Tons of people come here with their dogs and they can roam free. I loved it and I hope you do too.

A great place to get away from the tourist hordes and enjoy nature. I'd suggest taking the funicular up (only 24kc, and included if you have time on your bus pass) and walking down because the path is fairly steep. There are rose gardens at the top and even pony rides on the Sunday that we visited. A meal at the Nebozizek Restaurant half way up the hill is very reasonably priced. Even if you don't eat there, stop for a reasonably priced drink (a beer was only around 40kc, about $2usd). The views fom Nebozizek are tremendous. There are panoramic views of Prague and of Prague castle.

Petřín Hill is a green park that's great for letting the kids run around, or just for taking some quiet time out from the business of downtown Prague. The park is on a hill and there are paths, but there's also a funicular that stops halfway up and at the top. At the summit is the Petřín Tower, a 5:1 model of the Eiffel Tower. There's also a maze and an observatory. It's not unusual to find concerts taking place in the lower parts of the hill. Can get busy on the weekends, and so it might require strolling to the farther corners to find a peaceful spot.

It's always interesting when traveling to see what gets tons of promotion as the "thing to do" and then what ends up being the thing that completely blows you away, despite the lack of promotion. On a recent trip to Prague, Petřín was completely and utterly my favorite sight, and the most enchantingly romantic park I've ever been in (this is coming from someone who really enjoys parks). After my visit I re-read my guidebook just to confirm how much they undersold this amazing space and I want to make sure no one on Yelp has any doubt that visiting Petřín in a must. In an entertaining twist, the reason I was drawn to Petřín was to take a ride on the funicular but it is down for repairs until Spring 2016. I was initially annoyed but this turned out for the best as climbing up the steep hills of the park are really the best way to explore this amazing space. I recommend taking at least two hours to wander, more if you have it, and a picnic to enjoy as you do. The Tower (900 feet u,p eeek!) is definitely worth a visit (and you can get discounted tickets to the nearby mirror maze when you visit both) but be warned it's kind of terrifying on the walk up/down as it's very open to the wind. The views of the entire city are more than worth the climb and it makes for a great photo opportunity.

Still my favorite park in Prague. There's not much more I can say that I didn't cover in my last review, so read that, and then enjoy! This is a fantastic place to visit, and when the leaves are changing, full of beautiful colors as well. I highly recommend it!

Petrin Hill is one of my favorite places in Prague because it offers such a lovely view of the city. It's a fairly easy walk up to the top, although if you're lazy, you can also just cheat and take the funicular. It does get very steep at points, but it really depends on how you want to walk it--when I came with some friends, we kept taking steep routes even though there were plenty of flatter pathways up. There's a little beer garden part way up if you need to parch your thirst or anything. The top of Petrin Hill makes any agonizing hike worth it though--beautiful views of Prague's red rooftops and spires, it's really quite wonderful. There's a maze i believe on top as well as the pseudo Eiffel Tower which you can also go up. tldr; really a lovely place in Prague, I'd recommend it

This is a gorgeous park in Prague that gives you the best views of the city. Although I wouldn't prioritize this over some of the more historical attractions if you're a tourist, I still think the pictures here are absolutely stunning. We saw this park in Eyewitness, which also included the top ten things to see in the park before you leave. Trust me, you don't have to see everything it's not that critical and you won't miss out. The best way to enjoy this park is just to have a leisurely stroll threw the entire gardens. Some of the best pictures we took were right by the Church of Saint Michael's (which is a moved to Prague in 1929 and is no longer in service). It is on this peak and the views of the city, Prague Castle, and the bridge are breath taking. If you're in the area, here are a few things you might want to check out, but don't strain yourself trying to get to one of these places. In order from the most exciting to the least: 1)Strahov Monastery - quick view, right next to the hunger walls. You might be able to get here quickly. Also, it's a really nice spot to sit and catch your breath. 2) Stephanik's Observatory - It's the building that kind of looks like the Eiffel Tower, but is about a third the size. 3) Hunger Wall - A long wall that was built in the 14th century by Charles IV 4) Rose Garden - perfect for a nice light stroll 5) Church of Saint Michael's - it took us forever to find this church (GPS's wouldn't work, locals didn't know where it was, etc.) But we FINALLY got here. Based on the effort we put in (i.e. thirty minutes walking up a steep hill), I probably wouldn't recommend going out of your way to find this church. But, if you're within a ten minute walk, you can get the most gorgeous pictures both of the church and also of the entire city of Prague here. Of course, there are many other things in the park, but I didn't get a chance to see a lot of them. I just listed the things that stood out to me.

"Climbing up Petrin: stair master on level 20" It was a great hike, but a little dangerous if you're going at night or when the ground is muddy. Make sure you wear proper shoes or you will definitely slip, as the paths are very narrow and not paved. Once you're at the top of the hill, you can pay to go up the tower for a view of Prague. It's only 60czk for students. Honestly, however, the view from the tower at the Prague castle is much better just because I prefer a closer view of the town. And you get a bird's eye view of the cathedral from this tower!

This area is a great place for locals or tourists alike. As long as you have an open card or valid metro ticket you can ride the funicular for free to the top of Petrin hill. At the top there is tons to see and do, many statues, special buildings, a mirror maze (more enjoyable for kids but adults can also go in) if you have an open card you can get a discount on the observation tower and the mirror maze together. They have packages for families as well, so if you can't/don't speak czech ask for it because they can speak a bit of english here. If spending money is not your goal, you can walk up for free to the top, admire all the statues, walking paths, the rose garden, the view from the bridge near the middle, and this will all be for free. If you have children to entertain they provide free playgrounds, two actually and climbing areas with plenty of place for parents to sit and watch. Either way on a nice clear day you can get great views of prague for beautiful pictures, a nice picnic, or a way to be outside all day with endless things to do. Great place! Have your camera out on the funicular! Half way up it stops and it a great vantage point!

Amazing views! We did climb up the path which went straight through the orchard. Stopped midway at a little restaurant for a beer and bathroom (free for patrons). Then on to the top. It's about $7 to go up the tower and was well worth it. As someone else commented, the views from the top are unparalleled. Lots of stairs so be prepared for that, but little benches along the way up to rest. I'm in fairly good shape and it felt like a workout! Afterward we strolled around the rose garden and grounds. There is a pay bathroom at the base and they were charging 20 crown. There are some food and drink options at bottom if you need a snack.

We had a very pleasant time in Petřín Hill. It was a quiet park, but had some great inclines for hill climbing. We decided to forgo the funicular since we wanted to get some exercise. At the top of the hill was the Petřín Tower which is a smaller version of the Eiffel Tower. There was also an observatory and a maze. You can see some amazing views of the city at the top of the hill.
