Conrad Pezula

"Built on a dramatic headland, Pezula provides an upscale alternative to the quirky guesthouses found up and down this fashionable stretch of the east coast. There are 83 contemporary African-style suites, four to a villa. Thoughtful touches include fireplaces, indigenous tree-trunk side tables (a nod to Knysna’s timber-logging past), and big TVs. Zachary’s, the restaurant, treads a line between classic comfort food and innovative dishes inspired by local ingredients. A sumptuous lounge, a cigar bar, a library, and an impressive if pricey spa are all part of the imposing public areas. What disappoints is the incongruous exterior architecture—this hotel could be anywhere."

The rooms are incredibly old and not maintained. We went during the winter time, and weren’t informed that some rooms don’t have heaters… The property is beautiful due to the rich nature reserve, however, the rooms are well below average. The only saving grace was the staff who were extremely helpful, kind, and supportive. They were extremely accommodating and empathetic towards our feedback - understanding that the property is overlooked and our rooms were below par. The management needs to do a better job in upgrading the property. Breakfast was below average as well as there were barely any options and the coffee machine wasn’t working even though the staff had notified management multiple times. Won’t recommend this property for a stay as the rooms aren’t comfortable nor clean. Stained carpets to malfunctioning AC - absolute nightmare. Again, staff were amazing - blame is on management. Please do better. It’s such a shame to see such a beautiful property be completely mismanaged.

Amazing destination and staff. Rooms are lovely with great attention to detail. Lovely spa, enclosed pool and gym complex. Nearby hike is stunning but moderately difficult. I'd advise packing a jacket, water and possibly a snack if you have kids with you. The staff are really great and very attentive. Note the tennis court is a bit of a distance away and you should bring your own racquets.

We stayed in a two-story villa, and it was truly a luxurious and exceptional experience. The ground floor features a private courtyard with an elegant outdoor seating area and a jacuzzi overlooking nature — offering unforgettable moments of relaxation. The upper floor includes a spacious balcony with a stunning view, and a very luxurious bathroom equipped with every detail, from premium toiletries to bath salts — a clear reflection of their care for guest comfort. The spa experience was absolutely perfect — serene, professional, and deeply rejuvenating. From the soothing ambiance to the skilled therapists, every moment at the spa felt tailored for total relaxation. The sauna and steam room were spotless and inviting, and the treatments left us feeling completely renewed. The response from the reception team was quick and professional, especially when requesting golf carts for getting around the resort. The only thing I wished was available is a guided orientation tour upon arrival to introduce the resort’s facilities and features — especially since the place is spacious and full of beautiful details worth discovering from the beginning.

Very disappointing experience. The hotel service was terrible from the beginning. We had to wait three hours to get our rooms because they couldn’t find our reservation — they had blocked the names in the system. After the delay, we were given the rooms without key cards and without the extra beds we had already paid for. We had booked two suites, each with an extra bed, but neither of them was prepared properly. On top of that, both rooms were located next to loud construction work and noisy staff, with no sea view as we expected — just a view of workers and ongoing maintenance. Completely unacceptable for a hotel of this level.

Extremely Disappointed – Serious Safety & Service Lapses We had an extremely disappointing experience during our recent stay at this resort. One night, we were locked out of our room for several hours with no support whatsoever. Despite repeatedly trying to get help, no one came to assist us. We eventually had to walk all the way to the reception ourselves—late at night and in heels—only to be met with complete indifference from the duty manager. Another staff member, who said he was new, told us that he had informed the manager about our situation, but the manager simply chose to ignore it. After hours of waiting, we were finally given another room but with no amenities provided. We had to sleep in our day clothes, and not a single person from the resort approached us the next day to apologize or even check in on us. We had to go to the manager ourselves to report what had happened—something that should have come from their side. What’s more alarming is that we were told no one from the technical team was available until 6 AM. Thankfully, our toddler wasn’t in the room when this happened. Had they been, the consequences could have been far worse. How can a resort operate without round-the-clock emergency support? We were also informed that buggy drivers do not operate at night. Guests are expected to walk up steep hills to reception in the dark—even though there are visible warnings about baboons in the area. This demonstrates a complete lack of risk assessment, emergency planning, and guest care. This experience not only ruined our stay but also raised serious concerns about safety, staffing, and management responsiveness. For the price and reputation of this resort, we expected far better. We are still awaiting a fair resolution for this unacceptable experience.

As a returning customer, I was extremely disappointed to see how much the standard of the hotel has declined.||Upon our arrival at the standard check-in time, we were taken to our room only to find that it hadn’t been prepared — housekeeping staff were still inside cleaning. We had to return to reception and wait for an hour and a half before we were finally given access to a ready room.||Later that evening, we called reception to report that there was no hot water in the room. After an hour with no response, we had to call again. Eventually, maintenance arrived but was unable to determine the cause and said they would investigate further. Unfortunately, the issue wasn’t resolved that night, and no update was provided, meaning we were unable to shower.||We also informed the maintenance staff that the fridge was not working and that the patio light (which is essential at night, especially with the hot tub outside) wasn’t functioning either. We were told the lights were under renovation, but no further action was taken. Although the hot water issue was resolved the next morning, the fridge and patio light remained broken for the duration of our stay.||On a positive note, the staff at the restaurant, bar, and concierge were all incredibly friendly and welcoming. However, given the issues we experienced with the room — and how far the overall room standards seem to have fallen — it's unlikely we would choose to return, despite how much my daughter enjoys the hotel and its wonderful staff.||

Honestly I don’t even know where to begin, everything was just absolutely perfect! It surpasses many 5 star hotels I have visited in SA and internationally. The staff go above and beyond for every request. The spa facilities are pristine and beautiful. We stayed in the Woodfired hot tub room and it was lovely! Just phone in reception and someone will prep the tub for you, emptied and completely cleaned every morning. Wonderful restaurant and cocktail bar on site. The fireplace in the rooms creates such a cozi atmosphere. I would also like to mention the lovely lady that would do our evening turn down service - she brings such a warm energy, along with all of the other staff at the hotel. I will absolutely be returning.
