"Phare Ponleu Circus The Phare Ponleu Circus, inspiring and awe-inducing on many levels, delights kids from 2 to 92. Under the cover of a vintage, dusty big top tent, you're invited to witness thrilling acts that could easilybe part ofa Cirque du Soleil show. The circus evolved froma home for orphaned children, just after the Khmer Rouge fell. In addition to music and dance, the teachers began teaching performance art to the students, and over the decades, schoolprojectstransformed intoafull-blown circus that tours globally. Eachperformance combines whimsy, comedy, reflection, and even hints of dark political satire."

Of all the things you could do, I suggest you put this circus on your list. We are full-time travelers so do not do a lot of " tourist attractions," but this is just plain fun. Not only are the acrobatics impressive, but there is also a story that you can follow even if you do not speak the language. And one of the best things? Be sure you get there early and take advantage of their local food selection! You buy coupons and use those coupons to purchase the variety of food which is very delicious. They also have alcohol and soft drinks too. It might cost you $15 for two people, but it was worth it. On the way in you go through the gift shop, like many gift shops in town, but this one does have some pretty unique items. My wife fell in love with a pair of blue earrings as well as a necklace, and it's good to know that our purchase money goes towards supporting the school to help the kids learn these skills to help them as they get older.

Great, super ethical circus with only human performers! We saw the show Sakha which was so moving and powerful: funny, poignant, thoughtful, and deeply sad. We had an amazing time enjoying the gift shop, food, and the show! The cause is so great and important - by supporting the show, you’re not only supporting local artists but the local school as well. Highly recommend! Touristy, but definitely worth it. I got some great art at the gift shop so definitely go early to give yourself some time to browse - it’s super busy after the show!

We loved the circus! We watched the White Gold show about rice, which had an interesting storyline. Note that you can visit the Calendar section of the website to find descriptions of the shows, which rotate on a weekly basis. The kids were laughing so hard at times. We all were mesmerized by the balancing acts and high flips. Even our baby was captivated by the whole show. The live music was great and really added to the performance. We also enjoyed the traditional dance components of the show. We arrived at 6pm, which was enough time to browse the creative souvenir shop, eat a yummy dinner, and watch the kids dancing show at 7pm. We got tickets in section C and were glad that we were there early - this section is first come first serve (and some seats are more obstructed by a pole). After the show, there was an opportunity to chat and take pictures with the performers. All the staff here are so friendly and welcoming, and we had a wonderful evening overall. Highly recommend!

Great show with lots of impressive feats. As others have mentioned, at least the show 'Sokha' touches on dark themes so be aware of that if you plan on taking young kids. I chose section A and the view was good. Though this section is 'assigned seating' it really is still first come first serve. They give a free drinking bottle with cold water for guests in section A.

Very entertaining, great gymnastics and energy. One thing to be aware of is that the story of the khmer rogue does feature in it. There looked like there were a few scared young kids in the audience. But those scenes are interspersed with happier and upbeat scenes they would enjoy. Not a tourist trip, nice to be supporting a good cause that gives people a decent employment and helps circus talent.

The circus was a great experience. They did an amazing artistic performance and had a nice storyline related to the Cambodian history. It was very moving. I also liked that they had different kinds of arts presented, including painting. The best thing is that the cirus supports the local people through the non-profit school.

Brilliant! I saw the Sokha performance, (for this one some parts could be a bit scary for younger kids), i thought it was very well balanced between the heavy moments and comedic relief. I loved how it was a story unique to Cambodia and their recent history. Having done some physical theatre myself, i understood the complexity of some of the tricks - all of the artists are fantastic performers with incredible tumbling/acrobactic skills. Not sure if it was just this show, but was surprised to only see one female acrobat - hope that more ladies join in the future!

A vegan circus, no animals. What lovely people doing this amazing show! I really enjoyed the show it was super good, funny, surprising, and simply great. They are great performances. I think the 18$ is good enough. Come and support these local people thay are doing an amazing job!
