Bartender JJ and manger JC were extremely accommodating and loving. They went above and beyond and provided excellent customer service. We came here from Maryland and had an amazing experience. The ambience was 10 out of 10. Drinks were amazing! absolutely loved this place.

Total scam! MVM oversold the PhD Rooftop Party — we bought 5 tickets, waited over 2 hours, and they refused entry while letting only their friends in. Staff were rude, unprofessional, and completely disrespectful. Do NOT trust this organizer — they cheat people and ruin the night!”

Took my girlfriend here on a surprise after work date and she was totally amazed with the decor, rooftop view and cozy intimate feel. We ordered appetizers and drinks which delighted our palate. Service all around was great as the server remained attentive at all times. We highly recommend and will be back.

Amazing people work here! A about 4am I was being followed by some random guy, when I saw one of your bouncers heading to the A train. He helped me get away from the random guy, and even made sure I got on my train. He wouldn't give me his name, but he's the 6 ft white bouncer with brown hair and eyes, and he has glasses that are black and wood colored.

Headline: views are spectacular, music has been good both times I’ve been, great space to dance or to just hang out Details: I went during Halloween and during a weekend in June. Both times, the music was good (actual songs that people know, actual songs you can dance to, the crowd is hyped, etc — and you know how hard this can be to find). There’s a side terrace with views of the city that you can stand at and look even without a table. But most of the time I was inside — dancing, sitting at the bar or a table near the bar, it’s a great time. I like that there’s multiple bars and one that’s more quiet / that you can sit at to chill for a bit. Highly recommend.

The rooftop view is excellent. The atmosphere was fun. The staff felt a bit distant. The worst part was the quality of the drinks— a place like this in New York should have top-notch cocktails. The price didn’t match what they offered. I’d give it another chance only because of the view.

I've been here a few times. I brought my homegirl and she had a blast. They have such a cute flower wall that is perfect for pics and video. I got some strawberry margaritas as we ate elsewhere before we came. They do have small bites here too. Will definitely come back again. People love this rooftop so the elevator stays busy

The hotel itself was great, but I was extremely disappointed by the New Year's Eve event at PHD. We purchased "all access" tickets for the event and flew up from Miami specifically for it. After getting ready and heading to the rooftop, we discovered that the elevator to the rooftop had been shut down. We asked the front desk for guidance and were directed outside to wait in the rain in a sloped alleyway. There was no signage or any staff giving clear directions, and many people were standing outside, holding their phones with QR codes, completely confused about where to go. To make matters worse, there were three security guards outside, and instead of being professional, they were making inappropriate comments and catcalling the women. One of the guards even asked me, "Hey man, how did you get that chick?" referring to my fiancée, which was utterly disrespectful. After waiting for some time in a disorganized line, we finally reached the door where the tickets were being scanned. To our surprise, the doorman told us we didn't have "all access" and directed us to another area called the Gallery/Electric Room. I was also informed that we would need to purchase a $5,000 table to access the PHD rooftop. We were completely confused and ended up walking into a ballroom that looked more like a high school prom, decorated with metallic tinsel streamers. The crowd was overwhelmingly young (most likely under 21), and the music was blaring distorted house beats at an unbearable volume. At this point, we were so frustrated that we went to the lobby bar to get cocktails, even though the ticket included access to an open bar. I then spoke with the front desk, and was told that the hotel had no control over the PHD rooftop, as it was managed by The Tao Group. This was incredibly frustrating, especially since we had planned our entire trip around the NYE event. I ended up having to purchase two additional $400 tickets online just to get up to the rooftop. Once we arrived, there was only one bartender, and we couldn't even get a drink. The drink options were limited to well brands like New Amsterdam Vodka and Casamigos tequila, and the promised passed hors d'oeuvres were non-existent--except for one tray of shrimp, where we each got only a single shrimp. The room was overcrowded, the bathroom lines were ridiculous, and as soon as the clock struck midnight, we decided to leave. All in all, the night cost us over $1,400 for two house liquor cocktails and two individual shrimp, not including our hotel stay and flights. This was by far the worst New Year's Eve experience we've ever had. The Tao Group is a complete disappointment, and their customer service is abysmal. The Dream Hotel should seriously reconsider its partnership with Tao or at the very least provide guests with a dedicated concierge for handling PHD events. It was a terrible experience that negatively affected both the hotel and its brand.

I had the most incredible experience at PHD Rooftop Lounge at Dream! The outstanding view of the New York skyline is simply breathtaking. There's nothing like enjoying a cocktail while taking in the glittering city lights. The DJs were phenomenal, playing a wide range of genres that kept everyone on the dance floor. Whether you're into house, hip-hop, or the latest pop hits, they had it all covered, making sure the vibe was always electric. The staff were exceptionally accommodating, ensuring that we had everything we needed for a perfect night out. Their attentiveness and friendliness added a special touch to the overall experience. The location is absolutely perfect, making it easy to get to and from other hotspots in the city. The "good vibes only" setup truly encapsulates the spirit of PHD. We had an amazing time and can't wait to come back for another unforgettable night!

the drinks and food was delicious! Would love if they opened a little before 5, because right at 5 it got packed! definitely need reservations otherwise you can't sit at one of the tables and there's not much room elsewhere. but definitely a good post work drink spot!

I've been here twice, and it's overall fun. It's a great location and while the outside section isn't large, if you can get out there, it's really nice. The food is surprisingly good too. They do let it get super crowded, but that's all rooftops in NYC.

A night to remember. This was a memorable and extremely generous date that my boyfriend took me on. There was a $200 minimum the night we visited. His card was charged and we had $200 to eat/drink. The view of the city is amazing! Food and drinks were very good. A very upscale experience.

I've never written a yelp review until my experience at PHD. !! SCAM ALERT !! After putting in an order for a few appetizers and some drinks for the table, we were asked to put a card down (our party had over 10 people so this was not surprising or an issue). When we were finally ready to pay (which we had to approach the staff as they did not come to us) we were told that the card we put down was missing, and that they gave it to the wrong party who had already left (mind you there were about 4 parties on our side of the roof... ALSO the card had been missing and they just didn't tell us?) Waitress even told us to "not lock the card because they had the other parties phone number and we could probably get it tomorrow" hello???!!! Why would we not lock a card that went missing in Times Square. There was no urgency, barely any apologies, and the main concern to the waitstaff was not the missing card, but how we were going to pay our bill. We were told the manager was coming about ten times- they never showed up. After a half hour of ignoring us as we panicked rummaging through our bank apps the waitress came to us and said "oops we found the card #lol I was spooked. Here's the bill" WHAT??!!!!? Was reading through other reviews and found a similar story calling out scams that a party put down two cards and was only given one in return-they argued with the waitstaff who said there was no other card. How they did not offer to give the party a discount or offer any urgency blows my mind. Will not be coming back. The singular star is for the Mac n cheese bite which was honestly very tasty.

Experienced extreme racism at PHD rooftop lounge Me and 4 girl friends went to PHD rooftop for clubbing last night, and experienced extreme racist treatment from the promoters. We are a group of 4 East Asians + 1 African girl in early 20s, and all dressed classy. We contacted the promoter on IG & WhatsApp and he said to bring us in at 11:15pm. Not only did he make us wait for an hour at the door, but also ignored us the whole time at the table. We heard the promoters talking to each other "who brought these Asian girls in?" (We were led by 3 promoters) We were sharing the table with another group of Caucasian girls (we were under the same promoters and arrived together), and the promoters were actively pouring them drinks and talking to them. While for us, as we were pouring drinks for ourselves, one promoter was extremely rude and impatient said to me"what do you want??" And snatched the Vodka bottle from my hand. Btw this promoter is East Asian too. This promoter also said to us in the beginning when we first arrived at the table "I will serve them (the Caucasian girl group) drinks first" when we were asking him questions. We felt extremely humiliated, so we decided to leave after like 15mins. As we were getting our coats back from the couch at our table, a Caucasian guy sitting at the table yelled at us "I bought the table!! " Well I had no idea PHD is this racist. I had a great time at TAO another night, so I thought PHD was the same since they're all managed by Tao Group Hospitality. It's insane to experience this level of racism in 2024. (Later I read on Google reviews a lot of other POC experienced similar treatment at PHD. I guess they been doing this for years)

Don't waste your time going to this place. The experience is horrible from beginning to end. Crowded area and security is HORRIBLE. The drinks are horrible. No space to stand in the club. Security guards bump into you and get aggressive. I do not recommend this place. Save yourself the hassle and go somewhere else. We were asked to leave because a female security guard bumped into US!! We had just bought our drinks but they asked a group of 10 to leave. I asked if we can at least stay to finish our drinks or get a refund and they responded with "I can care less, fu**ng relax" beyond disgusted with this place. Calling us "stink a** ho*s". That's how you treat your customers ? ? & as we were walking out another security guard was telling us he loves us and will buy us drinks. Lack of professionalism. DO BETTER!!!

GORGEOUS views of the city all around; We were able to get complimentary drinks upon entry and bought others after. Service was simple nothing special.

If you are black, they will try to exploit you, therefore I do not support this business What's extremely sad is that the bouncers we're black as well. In a group of 6 I walked up behind a group of non minorities, whose IDs were checked and they were let in with no issue, then we were up to enter, we were advised that we would be held to a $600 bar minimum - this was not required of our non minority counterparts. When we questioned the bouncers they said "they came as individuals and you're coming as a group" when we advised we'd all enter separately the bouncer said "goodbye".

Very slow elevator to get to the top and with extra security. This is something new, and makes the wait really long AFTER you get in.

The most disrespectful manager at the main entrance I've ever encountered. Literally never been so insulted before. Upon arriving to this upscale rooftop we were greeted by an asshole doorman who asked us for the name on reservation we said the first name, he began antagonizing us for the last name and impatient that we were trying to get a hold of our friends on the phone. He started laughing and mocking us telling people around us that were dumb that we don't know what a last name is that it comes after a first name. Literally never coming here again it's a shame that it cost $400 to spend just to get in here. Piece of shot staff!!!

I had a table reserved at another Tao property and got bumped for a private event. I accepted a table at PHD instead. Lame music. Lame crowd. Quite possibly it picks up late night but for me it was a waste of money and I didn't stay long.

I visited the club one night and the cover charge was $150 (which was more of a drink minimum rather than a cover). The venue was pretty nice but it was mostly tables and not much of a dance floor. I wasn't a huge fan of the music which was hip hop all night. I guess this club doesn't get famous DJs like with Lavo and Marquee. It was nice to try once but probably wouldn't come back.

I came here for a friend's 40th birthday party this past Tuesday and it was incredible! He rented out the entire venue and it was such a well-run event. Staff were efficient and friendly, the bartenders kept my non-alcoholic ginger beer flowing all night, and the DJ was bumping great tunes all night. I haven't been here on a public night but for private parties, I wouldn't hesitate to book this place. I'm sure it's probably somewhat pricey but from what I can tell, it was certainly worth it!

Cozy rooftop bar with great views of Manhattan, located inside a modern, chic hotel. Unfortunately only one elevator goes up to the lounge so there may be a bit of a wait. Once you're up there, try and snag one of the outdoor table. The outside area is relatively small so it got very packed on a Friday night and service can be a bit slow at times. They have a decent variety of beers, wines, and mixed drinks. The beers are reasonably priced for the area (around $8 - 10), but the mixers can get pretty expensive ($20 for a Tito's and soda). Worth coming for one or two drinks just for the panoramic views.

Spent Saturday evening at PHD. Found about this place on TikTok as I was an out of towner. The views were immaculate and the drinks were worth every dollar. If you come here be sure to ask for the bartender Money Meg! She made the night and drinks worth while .

I came here on a Saturday night with two friends at around 11:30/12 midnight (doors open at 11pm), and the party was in full-swing! It's definitely a nightclub at that time--the place had an awesome vibe with a great crowd of attractive people (mainly 20's), and it was packed in a good way (and not in an over-crowded way), you still had space to dance and move around. Lots of birthdays here with bottle service and sparklers! The DJ is amazing and plays a lot of fun hip hop mixes, as well as house, reggaeton, r&b throwbacks, a perfect mix to get you in the dancing/ partying mood. People dancing on the lounge chairs, a fun vibe! Only negative thing is that the drinks are weak and $$$ (but that's what it's like in 90% of rooftop clubs). So pre-game beforehand. PHD rooftop is also very aesthetically pleasing, beautiful rooftop with fantastic views! It has plenty of lounge seating. This is my favorite lounge/nightclub if you compare it to Tao Nightclub (next door) and Electric Room (in the same hotel). Tao Nightclub is way too crowded (can't hardly move) and Electric Room isn't crowded enough...PHD Rooftop strikes that perfect balance! Go there first.

The worst espresso martini I've ever had omg....tasted like the coffee grounds you throw away from a shitty pot of coffee. For a $25 drink, that was the worst money I've ever spent. Nasty AF. Music was pretty good, but the rooftop has a cover all the way around and looks nothing like the pictures advertised. Not to mention the $50 ticket for a lousy Thursday night.

I've been here once before, but this is the first time I've returned since COVID started. I'd say I had a pretty fun time with some friends! The line was pretty short (on a Friday night!) which is pretty surprising. We were there kind of early though I'd say, maybe around 10 or 1030. For a group of 10ish people we didn't have to wait more than 10 minutes on line. They have a really pretty sunflower wall! It's very aesthetic as a great place to take Instagram pictures. Unfortunately, I did not like my pics too much-- which only means I'll have to go back to take some more. The servers here are super nice too! Very friendly. There's seating upstairs is on a first come first serve basis so we had one group go hold down the fort at a table area we were able to snag while the other half went to grab drinks. I highly recommend adopting this strategy if you visit as well! For drinks I got a vodka soda ($15, standard NY rooftop prices). We all also got a "birthday cake" shot. It was a hit all around, so if you're interested in trying something new... I'd recommend asking your bartender for this. Only complaint was I wish the music was a little more vibe-y. It was a very chill tone which kind of offset the vibes. But overall I think it's a great place to stop by for a drink on a night out.

the worst place to go. Not only because of how excessively expensive is, but also because of the poor treatment of the staff. A waiter pushed me and one of the managers came and literally told me to leave the place. and that we were occupying a table that was worth 800 dollars and if we didn't pay that! on top of the 400 that I had already paid , that I was in the wrong place... that in Queens I could find places according to my finances. it was disgusting !

Oh, this place. *throws up* Scroll down for the tea. A few friends and I (mostly women of color) were partying (getting traumatized?) here. I'm going to ignore how the staff, carrying trolleys of something, kept pushing through us quite aggressively. No worries. I'll also ignore how the bouncer at the gate was extremely, extremely rude. No worries again, it's New York? What I CAN'T ignore though is how this bouncer, an extremely tall gentleman (you're a piece of trash, sir. I hope you read this and find help or some God), insulted my lovely Brown people. She and I were sitting, smoking a cigarette, and it was closing time. So, we took our last drag started stubbing it. He says, as we are literally wrapping up, "either you'll leave politely or imma ask you fat ugly b*tches to get the f*ck out." I stared back, like...what? And then he gets aware of what he said and changes up hella quick, saying he meant he will have to call some "fat, ugly female bouncer" to get us out, and not us. Okay, first of all, b*ches was said in plural. Female Bouncer is 1 person, my friend and I are two (the plural). Secondly, the man saying it was a man of color--I can bet money he wouldn't have the audacity to say this to white women. Thirdly, no one deserves to be treated this way. Nobody. This might be "New York" (whatever glorified, nonsensical, stupid justification you tell yourself), but fix your staff. This is harassment, sexism, racism, and a money-drainer. I will keep doing the good work and divert as much business away from y'all as possible. :)

Sunset Saturday 5-9pm Is the way to go to VIP on a budget. Got tix via Tao group app. Got right in with a bracelet for open bar til 6:30. So slam em down. We were able to sit at the "reserve" tables that are bottle service super expensive after 10pm. Gorgeous views. Good music. Good drinks. Nice staff. We chilled outside the whole time but inside got pretty packed and everyone was having a great time. Look sharp, dress it up, nice sneakers are ok. Just dont look like a schlub. Dont act like a jerk and Youll be cool.

It's been over a year since I last went to a rooftop bar, so I was frankly already happy to have gotten a spot at PHD. We ordered a pinot grigio and the specialty cocktail Wet Dream, which was tasty but abundantly sweet, and a side order of parmesan herb fries in order to be COVID-compliant. My friend and I arrived around 7 pm without a reservation, and we were lucky to have snagged an open table so long as we left around 9 pm. Each seating area had heat lamps, so we were perfectly comfortable on a chilly spring evening. PHD is on the 12th floor in Midtown, so the views were adequate, but I loved the overall ambiance of the lounge.

What a crazy night! The crowd here is a little bit more upscale but you are still able to meet people from different walks of life. Plus, it's situated in a hotel so you get a bit of international mixed in. Definitely dress to impress just in case. You don't want to come all the way and be turned down at the door. Also, security here is no joke. You get checked at the entrance and again before you step into the elevator. The music was good and included mostly pop, some rap, and throwbacks. There is seating outside where you are allowed to smoke, but my party and I had a table inside. Service was good and our table was often refilled with drinks, ice, and wiped clean. The dance floor is a bit small so you see people just dancing anywhere really, even on top of the sofas. The crowd is generally mid 20s-30s. A note to the ladies, the bathroom only has 3 stalls and there were no towels or dryers to dry your hand from what I can see. You'll most likely have to get it from the lady selling stuff in the bathroom.

I came here for a networking event. To get there, you enter the Dream Hotel and take the elevator to the penthouse, which the security guard guides you to. It's really spacious, has a pretty sick view facing uptown, and the loungey seats are sexy. I do think that 230 5th has a nicer view of the city, but PHD is a well-known one, so worth checking out. The decor has got this modern, trendy vibe, and has both an inside and outdoor space - great for events or after-work drinks. They do offer food, along with their cocktail menu, and the guacamole is a good item to order, but so ridiculously expensive. Make sure to eat beforehand! I wouldn't return here - it's a pretty forgettable place, and there is nothing that stands out about this lounge to me - but if you have an event taking place at PHD, it's worth checking out.

I want to give 0000000 stars but this app requires me to give at least 1. This is a trash establishment. The white bouncer said that they will NOT allow "fat girls". We were 6 black girls, dressed very nicely and they would not allow us in. This is a horrible establishment. It is 2023, we were going out to have a good time just like everyone else but were denied. Establishments that perpetuate these ideas should not be in business! Terrible.

Worst service for a POC. Glad to meet the bartender of Latin decent that treated us like people but that's the last time I come to this place as POC. I've never paid $500 to be told to stand to a corner and regardless of Color and financial standing.

This reminded me of clubbing in Dubai. The crowd was diverse, eclectic, international and vibrant! The DJ was also pretty good and the drinks were standard overpriced Manhattan cocktails with more ice and juice than alcohol. I'd definitely suggest ordering bottle service or shots if you plan on drinking. I had a great time at the club-- I was just surprised that the security didn't check vaccination cards and some of the hotel employees weren't wearing masks.

It a great lounge with good music and food option but they need to get rid of their bouncer!!! Few of my friends went their to celebrate my engagement. The tall guy at the front said I can't wear my bride hair piece and I asked why? He said he doesn't know, he will not let me go in with my hair piece. My friend said, she paid for it and we are here to celebrate my wedding and the guy said he gets married ALL THE TIME!!! And he was like if you don't give it to me, I have to let you out after we waited in line. Totally abusing his power! (So sad) It made me think, if someone were to tell him you can't let certain race or if the hair piece was a scarf, would he not let those people in ? He needs to get educated and know why!! And don't say you get married all the time!! Also, in the lounge we saw people with hair piece that says 21bitches!!! Like that's totally okay with them but hairpiece says bride is omg so offensive!!! I would not come back for any celebration!

Not even one star. This bar took my friends ID. And wouldn't let her in. She said they had her ID and they denied it. We had to go inside and ask the bartender and found her ID. Terrible service, terrible values. Do not recommend.

This is a cute rooftop! Not the most affordable place but really lovely. Great aesthetic. Not particularly rememberable food or drinks but a nice place for a date or girls night.

I don't know about other people experience but every time I go here with my friends it's amazing. I love the set ups the food and drinks. Every time it gets better. Getting drunk and dancing meeting new people and smoking in the rooftop it is an amazing view and experience. One of the best places in NYC. I would always take my friends here when ever they visit from outside.

My favorite rooftop in NYC. Not just because it's huge and has both a nice outdoor and indoor area, but because the unobstructed view is amazing, especially during sunset. And I also like the fact that the bouncers and door staff are always friendly, never rude like at other places. Drinks are good at the bar upstairs, music has also been great on several occasions. I recommend you come for after work drinks or off-peak hours to really enjoy this beautiful space and take in the view.

Just eww. I tried to get in wearing a crop top and jeans with rips in them and they turned me down but everybody else was walking in with crop tops and jeans. I have a sneaking suspicion it's not about my outfit but the person and body wearing it. Fuck this place.

This nightclub is dangerous. The bartenders overserve and do not pay attention to their customers. A man asked to buy me a drink and I obliged. We walked up to the bar and ordered two drinks. I watched the bartender make them. This was my second drink TOTAL for the entire night. Within a few minutes, I could tell that I had been drugged. As the man was dragging me out of the bar, my friends caught up to me and pulled me away from him. After the fact, my friends let me know that the man tried sneaking me out of the bar through the balcony to avoid security. If you go to this nightclub, please be careful!

Wildly expensive Rooftop with an incredible demographic of well-dressed and attractive people with first come first serve outdoor lounge tables. $20 a drink. 4/5 stars as a rooftop.

This is the worst club in New York City. I spent $800 on a vip package and stood up all night. The bottle girl was really sketchy, she wanted to hold my platinum American Express and my I'd. She said she needed to take a picture on her iPhone for the club records. I seen weird charges on my card the following day, i reached out to PhD. They never responded, my next step is the better business bureau and having my social media friends tweeet them. I don't recommend this place unless you like to get fraudulent charges on your card, and be mistreated. Attached is the payment made for bottle, this company does not appreciate good business The manager Nick also told me " F*ck off "

This location is gorgeous and very Insta-worthy for pics. We go there late, but they were very accommodating. The drink were delicious. I would definitely recommend.

I visited the PHD Lounge at Dream Downtown last Friday and it immediately became one of my favorite rooftop bars, and I was planning on bringing several visiting friends back there soon. However, one of the employees was racist and ruined my experience there. I had seen several people on Instagram posing for photos beneath a gorgeous flower arch (see attached screenshot) and I asked the employee where I might be able to find it while showing him the screenshot on my phone. He said it was at the midtown location, then groaned and said "can you read English?!" in a really spiteful and insulting way, before walking away. If you refer to the screenshot, you'll see that it actually says "Downtown" in the location tag. I know that it has obviously been incorrectly tagged, which is not the issue here... but the way in which he responded and behaved was just rude and uncalled for, so I wanted to share this negative experience here with everyone. Needless to say, I will not be returning ever again. p.s. I have only used a cropped screenshot and deliberately hidden the person's Instagram handle and her face in the photo because I don't know her personally. But that was the screenshot I used when I asked the employee.

My castmates and I had a celebration here the other day. While the spot was nice, the staff certainly left a lot to be desired. Perhaps it wasn't all of the wait staff, but certainly the young lady who was servicing the two cabanas we rented. I asked her multiple times to order, and she kept coming back to our table without taking my order. Perhaps, she was overwhelmed by the number of people. I don't know. However, I do know that her service was far from top tier. The pool is nice but quite small, and Bc it's down town Manhattan, you're only going to get direct sunlight for certain parts of the day. I likely would not return there on my own, but I would come back if something was being hosted there by a friend or something. I highly recommend the shishito peppers. Prob the best I've ever had.
