We have just returned from four nights at the Phidias and it was truly awful.||I booked it in November 2024 for my wife's birthday. I contacted them and told them I wanted to book a double room with a veranda and a view of the Parthenon, we had stayed in 2006 and had a lovely holiday. They wrote back to me requesting a €125 deposit which I sent via bank transfer and they confirmed my booking in writing.||When we arrived at the hotel, the young lady could find no trace of our booking, or our deposit. I showed her the booking which I had printed off and a copy of the bank transfer. For half an hour we stood while she tapped away at the computer. She then told us there was no booking, at that point another member of staff appeared, more discussion, she then offered me a room with no view, I pointed out we had booked and paid for a veranda room with Parthenon view, she then said they had changed our booking. More discussion, she then gave us a room that she said someone else had booked ( I didn't understand it either). Furthermore we were asked to pay the balance, in full and the price, miraculously, had gone up. In hindsight we should have written off the deposit and just gone to a different hotel, of which there are many||When we got to the room, the safe, which was tiny, didn’t work, another trip back to reception. We then went out to eat, determined not to let this spoil our holiday. We have been to Athens several times and will go again but never to this hotel.|The next morning I was approached by another receptionist, asking if I had proof that we paid the deposit, again I showed her the written proof. |At no time were we offered an apology for the inconvenience.||The hotel itself was tired and dirty and it felt as if the staff had just given up. The breakfast was adequate but again, cleanliness was an issue. The rooms were neglected and barely clean, the towels were, well, I can't describe them so have attached pictures.||Avoid this place at all costs, it's awful, the only good thing about it is it's location and it could be a lovely hotel, if the owners cared.
