Phil's BBQ

For a restaurant to boast about being the most reviewed, they surely have to stand behind that and have full confidence that they actually are that good. That being said, their food was amazing. They give you large portions that you can eat family style or share. The service was a friendly and took about 10 minutes to get my food. This place is very popular And it could prove difficult to find a seat, however, there are a lot of seats available. You can order to go if you want to just call ahead and place an order. The food is very flavorful and definitely worth every penny. Highly recommended, and I will return when I am back in the area

Of course there's a line out the door, but don't let it deter you. It's the line to place your order. Find a table and your food is ready fairly quick. This place definitely met expectations. Friendly staff throughout, like Alyanah who is very kind, helpful and patient. We tried as much as possible. Half rack of baby back with sweet baked beans and macaroni salad. The ribs are a bit charred on the surface, they're tender, but not necessarily "fall off the bone." Ordered ribs and chicken meal with 2 small sides: crunchy coleslaw and creamy potato salad. Chicken leg was a bit dry but I guess that's why you have that tangy and sweet BBQ sauce. Ordered loaded Broham fries: a plentiful portion of pulled pork over cheesy fries. Side order of sausage had that great snap when you bit into it and ever so slight kick. We opted for sauce on the side for all items to properly taste the meat then added sauce to compliment or assist dryness. The best accompaniment to all was the cornbread. Its like a dense cake with corn kernels and sweetness (maybe made with creamed corn). The maple butter is a nice touch. Everything was delicious!!

From start to finish, our experience at Phil's BBQ was nothing short of amazing. The service was top-notch, with a staff that was not only friendly but extremely helpful. They went above and beyond, ensuring that we felt welcomed and cared for throughout our meal. The portions were generous—so much so that we had to get a to-go order for leftovers because we simply didn’t want the incredible food to end! And let’s not forget the drink prices—they’re unbeatable, adding even more value to an already outstanding experience. The atmosphere, while lively and bustling, somehow managed to be electric rather than chaotic, creating a fun and energetic vibe. It’s the perfect place to enjoy great food with a positive and upbeat environment. As Canadians, we’re thrilled to have discovered Phil’s BBQ, and we’ll definitely be bringing our family back on our next trip to San Diego. The cherry on top was the warm, personal well-wishes from the staff as we left. It’s those little touches that make a huge difference, and Phil's does them all. Had a great experience at Phil’s BBQ! We ordered the beef ribs and onion rings — the ribs were tender, smoky, and packed with flavor, while the onion rings were crispy and perfectly seasoned. Portion sizes were generous, and the food came out hot and fresh. The atmosphere was casual and welcoming, and the service was quick and friendly. It's definitely one of the best BBQ spots I’ve tried — I’d gladly come back for more!

First timer here, I must say this place is busy and for good reason. The food is so good. The menu has more items than I could ever try. I ordered the El Toro, half with BBQ sauce and the other half without, I had to try it both ways. The french fries were crispy, fresh and LARGE! The BBQ sauce.. What can I say, I wish I could buy a bottle of this stuff. The staff are happy and helpful. The restaurant was clean and inviting. I will definitely return when I am in town again.

This place is a must-try BBQ spot in SD! You’ve gotta try it! But be warned—during peak hours, the line will make you question your life choices! No worries, though! Just head inside, turn left to the room with the bar, grab an empty table, and the server will take your order right at your seat! Food delivered to your table! I specifically asked about the difference, and the staff said there’s none—except you skip the crazy long line here! Barely anyone knows about it! So you’ve gotta go for it! After all, it’s the same amazing food without the wait!

We are from Germany, and this restaurant was so incredible that I’d consider moving here just to experience it again! The service and food were absolutely outstanding. Roxy was exceptionally kind and attentive. I had a hard time deciding what to eat, but she took the time to explain everything in detail, making the decision much easier. Her service was impeccable, and we truly appreciate her effort as well as the work of the kitchen team and the chef. I have never had such amazing beef ribs in my entire life! The whole experience felt like heaven. We are currently on a road trip along the entire West Coast, and this was by far the BEST experience we’ve had. We got one of the sandwiches, the small rack, and onion rings. All were really good! Super busy, but a nice, homey atmosphere and a lot of workers there to help out. The food was really good, and super filling! I liked that there was an entire roll of paper towels on the table and a hand washing station, and a little arm hook on the bathroom doors so you don’t have to touch the handle! Fun little hygiene things I’ve never seen anywhere else.
