Pho & Roll by Wooden Fish

Wow! I’ve lived in Vancouver over 20 years and eat Vietnamese cuisine once a week. This is nicest atmosphere of most other Vietnamese restaurants. I was also impressed with the array of house made sauces. The pho broth was tasty, and they had fresh menu with variations of menu items not found anywhere else. For example a diverse list of salad rolls with fresh different ingredients. Audrey our server was really nice and experienced with their menu. Looking forward to come back and enjoy exploring the menu.

The food was okay, but for the price and the hype, we expected more. The items we ordered did not standout from other Vietnamese restaurants. The Pho Ga, was pretty good, but the presentation was questionable. The Bun Cha came in a great portion, but didn't taste as good as what we usually get.

Pho & Roll on Cambie is a modern Vietnamese spot with a fun, casual vibe that pairs well with its clean, Northern-style pho and fresh rolls. The broth is clear and flavorful, the rolls are light yet filling, and the menu has a good mix of classics with a few creative twists. Prices are reasonable for the area, and while portions aren’t huge, the quality and presentation make up for it. With friendly service and a lively atmosphere, it’s a great place to drop by for a comforting bowl of noodles or a quick bite with friends.

It's was ok... My pho ga was rather small, overly salted and the noodles got mushy within 5min. The spring roll was tasty but for $14, I would expect more than this. Prices reflect the fancy atmosphere and decoration, if you're in for the food, you better off going to Xin Chào (one block South) or most places on Victoria drive or kingsway.

Food was excellent and server was very good. Prices very reasonable for Vancouver which is a very expensive city. Atmosphere is so-so and if you’re sitting beside a big loud group you will hear everything except the person in front of you. Keep that in mind. Overall the food is so good that I would recommend this place.

Pleasantly impressed by this place! Dishes were very thoughtfully designed, well executed, and artfully plated (look at the colours on that salmon curry!). They gave us a glass of their homemade kombucha on the house, which was very kind. Service was quick and friendly. We got the Lobster Garlic Noodles and Salmon Curry, both very highly recommended! My only note is that a light vinaigrette on the salad would have been nice, as it was entirely plain. Didn’t hate it though!

First time to try Pho & Roll yesterday and we loved it! We honestly had a positive dining experience. Our eyes feasted from the food presentation! The food was good and the staff were friendly and accommodating!

Tried a Vietnamese spot today and ordered both the beef pho and grilled chicken rice — and honestly, the chicken rice totally stole the show! The chicken was perfectly grilled with a nice crisp on the outside, topped with fried shallots that added extra flavor. Super satisfying bite! The sides were really thoughtful too — crisp lettuce, pickled beetroot, radish, and a bit of green dressing that kept things fresh and balanced. Loved how colorful and well-rounded the whole dish felt. Even the rice texture was spot on — not too wet, not too dry. The beef pho had a clean, light broth with a subtle spice aroma — great if you prefer a milder, less heavy soup. Plenty of beef slices, but overall the flavor was more delicate and less memorable. Next time I come back, no doubt I’m getting the chicken rice again!

Plentiful salads and good salad rolls Staff very helpful. I'll bring my friends back.

Came here for a team social and was very impressed by the presentation and quality of food! I got the pho bo, Saigon roll, and extra noodles on the side for $22 (before tax and tips). The salad roll was super fresh and tasted very healthy. I tried it with the dipping sauce that it came with as well as all the chili sauces that were available at our table. It was so good and I liked how the salad roll didn't fall apart when I bit into it! As for the pho, the soup was very flavourful and there was a good amount of meat. I was a bit surprised because it was not served with bean sprouts but I learned that northern-style Vietnamese pho does not come with side garnishes. Overall, I had a really good experience. Good food, nice atmosphere, and the staff was friendly!

In a city with a diverse profile of vietnamese cuisine, Pho & Roll is a new restaurant, although a sister restaurant of the established Wooden Fish, aiming to put its own name into the basket. Themed on a concept of a modern blend of vietnamese cuisine mixed with local Pacific NW ingredients, this somewhat fusion-leaning restaurant is a great place for a casual hangout among friends looking for something a bit more fancier than the average pho. The food is prepared well, as you would expect from something of this caliber, but among a sea of well known viet establishments in Vancouver, the taste does not stand out. While the ingredients are indeed fresh and of good quality, similar values can be found outside. The innovativeness falls a bit short of the best vancouver can offer, but overall still delicious and enjoyable. As an average vietnamese restaurant, Pho and Roll stands tall for its quality, but, especially for its premium price, it has a long way to go rank among the best of Vancouver.

Two months young, this restaurant seems promising. Sister restaurant of Wooden Fish in West Vancouver, this location offers more upscale and unique Vietnamese dishes. We loved all the dishes - taste and presentation alike. TWO-WAY VEGGIE & CRISPY RICE - KHO QUET The dipping sauces incredibly enhanced the dishes. Loved the crispy rice squares that goes very well with pork belly sauce SOFT SHELL CRAB - unlike other soft shell crabs which are fried with thick batter, this one leaves you with a good taste of the crab. The tamarind sauce goes very well with it. VIETNAMESE OSSOBUCCO - took me a few bites to appreciate the taste, but once I did, I liked it very much. LOBSTER PHO - a dry kind of pho with a bowl of soup on the side. A little bit of fish sauce perks up the flavour. PHO BO - delicious soup without the heavy taste of MSG which is common among Vietnamese food. Yummy! This restaurant is elegant and modern. I love the interior. Space is narrow but very creatively decorated. Kitchen is tastefully hidden with a little view when one enters from the main door. Staff are very nice.

I'm in love with this spot for its bold and unique dishes. There's plenty of salad rolls to try and unique pho's. Fresh Off The Boat was my favorite roll, it had very unique and refreshing flavors. The Pho Satay had bold flavors similar to a Dan Dan noodle, which I particularly enjoyed. The incorporation of pineapple into many of the dishes such as the rolls and dessert makes for amazing sweet and tangy flavors. Be sure to try the carpaccio - everything from the texture to flavor made for a very memorable dish. It was the best carpaccio I've ever had, I couldn't stop taking bites of it until it was gone. I'm not usually a fan of octopus but the grilled baby octopus but really pleasant and tender. The soft shell crab was super yummy as well, I liked how I could eat the shell and the sauce went really well with it. Also the cocktails were great, not too sweet, and not too overpowered with alcohol taste. I tried the Deep Soul and Sweet and Psycho. The spot is very bright and spacious and servers were very attentive and kind.

We were on the Cambie corridor and wanted to try this out. First impression was good. Ambience was nice and was seated pretty quickly. Ordered the following dishes: Saigon roll; Spring rolls and Bun Bo Nam Bo (beef with vermicelli). -Saigon roll came pretty quickly so was quite impressed. That's about it .... The roll was pretty thin, not flavorful at all and was highly disappointed. -Spring rolls came next and again was not flavorful. The fish sauce to dip it in was not flavorful at all - Bun Bo Nam Bo - this was a beef with vermicelli dish ... we waited some 20-25 minutes after we finished the spring rolls. When it finally came, the beef was lukewarm warm/cold. Vermicelli was cold; fish sauce was bland and the beef was tasteless. Best part was the fried onions. Service - 1 star Food - 2 star Ambiance - 3 star Overall, underwhelming.

It was our first time and the restaurant blew our expectations. The atmosphoere, service and dishes were fantastic. Min recommended a few highlights and they didn't disappoint. The menu serves up dishes you dont usually see elsewhere. We're huge fans of Vientamese food, and I would say this place is among the better ones.

The Vietnamese food here is authentic and gourmet. They made a poor man's dish I grew up eating so elevated. I do wish the sauce for the Kho Quyệt is thicker and less sweet but overall enjoyable. Their Pho here is super good, the salad rolls are expensive for just one roll but delicious. Vietnamese iced coconut coffee is worth having two LOL, and the com don rice set is filling, and delicious. Service was quick and lovely, ambiance was nice and clean lighting was just right.

Cute restaurant but slightly overpriced food. Vietnamese Ossobucco: The veal shank lacked flavour even though it was tender. Didn't meet my expectations especially if compared to a dish called 'Bo Kho' that I had in other restaurants. Beef carpaccio: Good balance of freshness from the herbs & lime, and richness from the butter. The shallots added a nice fragrance without overpowering the flavour. Yuba salad: Very nice vegetarian salad option (I love mushrooms!) Despite the underwhelming food, the servers were friendly and gave us a canvas tote at the end of the meal.

We went to this modern Vietnamese bistro for lunch this weekend, despite some of the less than stella reviews, and we were glad we did. The deco is modern and the staff is friendly. We had the beef carpacio, soft shell crab, spring rolls and Pho Bo. All the dishes were delicious, and the winner for us was the soft shell crab. It was not over battered, fried lightly and so juicy. The Pho was favourful. We did not detect MSG. The prices, as noted by others, were a bit on the expensive side. Overall we felt the quality of the food and the excellent service justified the price. For the two of us, for lunch, without alcohol, was about $80 in total. We likely will go back soon and tried other items on their menu.

Ordered take out to try la vong roll which I thought would taste more fresh as I was excited to try a salad roll with fish instead of shrimp yet all I tasted was the massive piece of lettuce. It consisted of disproportionate amount of lettuce as I could not taste the lingcod or the fresh herbs, and if it was there, would have thought the lingcod would be the prominent ingredient of this roll but would not order this again.

PHOrgetful...(by Fish Memory?!) I had visited Wooden Fish a handful of times before whenever I am at the Park Royal area but last 2 visits there weren't so memorable ( hence the irony in memorable lol). After hearing they opened a sister company in Vancouver along Cambie on the Westside, I was a bit excited cause it's in my hood. So decided to check it out. There were pay parking along the side streets or in the parkades (roughly about $5-$6/hr). Once inside; the counter and bar to the left of the entrance followed by the kitchen, one strip of tables all along the right side. And I do see a flight of stairs to a 2nd level and a couple of tables there? Overall it's quite a compact little place, almost like a Ramen joint layout. Here were the food I ordered; 1. Egg coffee & can of coke. Egg coffee was a bit off and weak compared to a few other places. (They forgot to add this to the bill, I informed the waiter that so I can pay for it which I did and he wasn't too happy?!? Sorry me trying to be honest lol). 2. Soft shell crab. It's deep fried the way I like but the crab was a bit small and the dish was quite plain for $15?? 3. La Vong roll (ling cod). It was okay and refreshing but the fish was overcooked. Btw, I didn't realized they forgot to add this to the bill until I am looking at the bill to write this review. lol (guess my $18 tip covered this $7 dish? lol) 4. Jumbo tiger prawns. 2 pieces of tiger prawns grilled with a sprinkle of salt and chilli pepper for $16, that works out to $8/pc. That's a bit overpriced for a very generic dish?!? 5. Pho Bo. It was okay, nothing too special. The first server totally forgot this order until I asked for it 40mins later, he came to apologize and another server took the order and I asked to add an egg, but forgot about the egg. However, was given a complimentary side of bone marrow (not necessary but thank you). Taste wise it was pretty basic. 6. Lobster pho. Same scenario, this dish was forgotten. And no egg when I asked to add one especially when I asked twice and were confirmed with an, "okay no problem". Or maybe I misheard it and he said, "NO it's a problem"? (Lol) anyways, the 3 little midget pieces of deep fried lobsters were too dry and tasteless and the dry mixed noodle was not very pleasant? Wayyyyyy too basic (rice noodles with a bit of diced herbs, onions, cooked bean sprouts and hoisin soy sauce). Honestly it's a failed $30 dish imho. Overall, I was quite disappointed especially I was excited to check this place out with all the talks. The service was indeed for the better word, weird? There was only my table and two other tables; one table of two was almost done eating and another table by the windows who seemed to be friends and were done already too. Yet my entire order was one big MESS!? First my drinks were forgotten until I asked for it. Then my two bowls of phos were forgot until I asked for it. And then forgot my eggs I asked to add when the 2nd server came to retake my order of phos. When the bill came, I had to inform them they forgot to put my drinks on the bill and the server looked confused and not happy when I told him that. And like I said when I am writing this, they also forgot to charge me for the roll too. (Yeah I am one of those who don't always go through the whole bill, I just pay lol). Anyways, as for the food; they all definitely needed to be better in terms of quality and taste wise. The food just didn't match the price. The food needed to be redefined for this place to compete and survive. Lastly, all the staffs needed to be trained properly. What I experienced should've never happened especially when the restaurant wasn't even busy and fresh to the scene. Plus how did it became so disorganized and the staffs sooooo PHOrgetful when they took my order with the iPads in their hands? Fish Memory?!? (Facepalm). AND DON'T give almost empty sauce bowls, to some culture that's a sign of disrespect?

Ordered the " Pho Bo" The broth is pretty delicious, The Pho only comes in medium thick sized noodles. Not traditional thinner noodles. Didn't have options to choose. This place has all sorts of sauces except for Hoisin Sauce or Sirracha. Also the Pho doesn't come with any bean sprouts, mint leafs or lemon and limes on the side. Good but could be better.

Big fan of their West Vancouver location. Great northern-style Vietnamese food. People complaining about the lack of bean sprouts do not understand that this is not that style of Viet food.

The pho satay had a delicious peanut soup base which I really enjoyed! The Nam Bo roll was also quite good and very refreshing. Service was great. Just a heads up, the menu is not large and they do not offer hoisin or bean sprouts.
