On the Grid : Hanoi Quan

"$50 will bring you scrumptious food for 4, but will buy you no niceties. For the cost of some pretty average take away you will enjoy quick, delicious and reliable vietnamese food with firm yet polite service and no BYO charge to boot. The salt and pepper tofu is crunchy and comes with a generous smattering of chilli and shallots - a must order dish. Definitely worth a visit." - The Laser Co

Not many North Vietnam style Pho can be found in Sydney. This place has a very delicious soup broth. The portion is big. Service was nice. Definitely will try different food menu next time.

A reasonable Vietnamese restaurant with the normal range of pho, soups and rice paper rolls etc. This is one of many Vietnamese restaurants in the area. The combination beef pho was good to above average and likewise with the prawn rice paper roll. On the negative side, it can noisy due to some customers being loud, with little regard to other guests in the small restaurant. Also, the condiments containers are a bit dirty. This is not an upmarket restaurant, and is rather basic, so not ideal if you are looking for a special place to impress someone. Overall however the pho was good and could be worth another try for a quick and inexpensive meal. Thank you.

The food here was pretty average. Many of the dishes were a bit bland for my liking. The service was fast however and staff reasonably friendly. The prices were also pretty cheap which is a plus. Honestly the highlight for me was the sting rays in the many tanks along the wall, which are great to watch.

Not a fancy place! A little dark and messy looking from outside. Do not let it fool you. It offers the cheapest and biggest portion of Pho in the city. Very delicious Pho! I like beef option more than chicken. Vietnamese families come here and chat with the owner. Lots of food options and all taste pretty good. Pho is still the best though! :)

First time trying Hanoi (Northern) style pho and liked it very much. The broth is less sweet than Southern-style, more savoury, and they also like to load it up with herbs. I had the pho tai lan in which the beef is seared in a hot wok with garlic before being added to the bowl - it added another dimension to the dish and was very nice indeed.

☺ THE GOOD: Pho is very tasty with lots of meat. 😐 THE NOT SO GOOD: please change to ceramic instead of plastic cutleries and bowls. The broth can be a bit less salty 😃 THE BEST: their sate sauce is homemade and very well balanced. The fried rice is also the best compared to other restaurants

We visited this old place recently and were quite surprised that the interior is now renovated and look nicer. We ordered two dishes, i.e. steam-rice with shaking beef and their signature dish of stir-fried rice noodle with sliced beef. Both dishes are good but we especially like the rice noodle (pho xao thit bo). The cooking technique is great and the ingredients (e.g. beef) are fresh and good quality. On the next visit, we also ordered the Hanoi-style pho dac biet soup and rice vermicelli bun salad with grilled pork. They're all nice dishes and we love the soup with more scallions and cilantro making it more aromatic to enjoy. The beef meats and meatballs are also nice. Service and ambience are great for a small suburban eatery. We love the fact that they put lots of Vietnamese condiments on the table and especially loved the chilly satay sauce and the chopped chilly with vinegar. The prices on the menu are reasonable and you can pay with credit cards (inc Amex) with no surcharge.

Google
Their pho is one of the best in Sydney. The broth was packed with flavour and had so many layers to it. I loved that the broth had flavours of garlic, shallots and also chicken. They don’t skimp on the bean sprouts, mint or fresh cut chilli either. Tables also have all the chilli condiments you could want, and a container with pickled garlic which goes beautifully in the pho. The fried to order bread sticks are a must have, dunk them in the pho broth and leave them to soften and soak up all the flavours. The fried pork chop was spectacular as well, and came with an unassuming looking, but mind blowing chicken soup.

Yelp
My parents love coming here for some pho and it is the best, delicious food and friendly staff and always love to speak Vietnamese with us. 100% recommend coming here

Yelp
Cheap and yummy food whenever you're in Marrickville. We're very impressed with the phö and vermicelli with grilled pork. I reckon this place has better phö than many shops in Cabramatta. You can tell good Vietnamese food when more than half the customers speak Vietnamese and can order without looking at the menu. Highly recommend the fried spring rolls. They make it fresh everyday. In fact when we were there they were making it at the table behind us... I think they hired the Flash as their chef because we got our meals within 10-15 mins after ordering. We also tried the Hanoi calamaris which were pretty chewy and juicy. Not as oily as salt and pepper calamari, yet retained all of its flavour. It's right next to the station and opposite the Hellenic Bakery (good spot for desserts afterwards - if you can still fit it in) Will be back for more!

Yelp
This place has changed . . . . . a lot. The antiques and bric a brac are all gone and the food is not as good as it once was. Worst of all, the bossy boots, dragon lady maitre'd has gone. " Hurrry up hurry up. Order now. You too slow. Very busy " Now it's no fun at all. Pity.

Yelp
I'm Vietnamese and this is one of the best Pho in Australia. You must have the Wagu Phở it's worth every cent you spend

Yelp
Cheap tasty food, quick service- we visit this place at least a couple of times a month despite the 30 minute plus drive. My pho loving boyfriend says the pho is the best he's had in the entire world (and he's had it in a lot of places). The bun cha is delicious and the deep friend spring rolls are SO good. Plus we get all of these items for $30 total. Huge servings. Everything comes out super quick. One tip: Cash only and there is no ATM anywhere around- Woolies down the road is probably the closest place to get cash so make sure you have some before you arrive! Decor is interesting- the yellow walls and thousands of "treasures" only add to the authenticity... And get in here before the hipsters take over! :-)

Yelp
Stellar pho: Stir Fried Beef Pho. Have to order off menu. I've tried every Pho place in Marrickville. I've had Pho all over Sydney: Cabramatta, Eastwood, wherever and in the US. This place beats them all! Order from Jonny as he knows this off menu item - it's his personal favourite. Other soup like prawn soup is excellent. Cramped. Seats only 36pp, so you share table. It's worth it.
