We used Google maps to locate this place close to our hotel. We started with cappuccinos, which were fantastic. We then had the regular coffee that was also outstanding. The atmosphere was great. The service was really great.

Awesome cafe nestled in downtown. After a morning jog, needed a quick cup of coffee and snack to start my day off right. Americano and everything bagel was just what I needed. The coffee was flavorful and smooth, perfectly extracted. Bagel was also perfect, toasty and lightly salted. Ambiance inside was dimly lit and cozy. I'll definitely be back for another cup.

My husband had the rosemary bagel and horseradish cream cheese, which was fantastic. I had the cinnamon muffin. It was fluffy and light, but also moist at the same time. The coffee was great. I hope to get back here before leaving Cleveland!

Some of the best coffee in Cleveland. Nice local coffee shop with great coffee. Nice large area with plenty of seating, and normally not too busy. There is also a case with different food and pastries, half made in house and some from outside. One of the best places to go if you want real coffee drinks with the local coffee house vibe.

Phoenix Coffee Co. in downtown Cleveland is not only a fantastic spot for a warm and cozy cup of coffee, but it is also an employee-owned cooperative coffee company. Gotta say that is unique around here! The ambiance is inviting, with dim lighting, comfortable seating, and rustic decor. A solid 4.8/5 there! The staff are friendly and more than happy to explain menu items. And finally - drumroll - the coffee itself was bold and flavorful with a smooth finish. At on the cappuccino was done well too, for those who like stellar 'gram moments.

The barista here was such a doll! I travel for a living and she gave us great recommendations for things to do in Cleveland. On top of that, they also have gluten free and vegan baked goods! I got a tahini marshmallow cookie (gf/vegan), and they also offer a gf/vegan chocolate oat cookie and a gluten free lemon blueberry muffin (not vegan). It's unfortunate there isn't an option for dine in right now, it's a very cute place too. The gingerbread latte I got was very nice as well. Good to know this is a local chain, I will certainly be back!

Great cafe. The decoration is really cozy and beautiful. as a plant lover I was amazed by the plant wall, it has outdoor sitting as well. On the top of everything, I'm in cl for almost 6 years and this place offered the best hot chocolate so far.

Definitely one of the most underrated coffee houses in northeastern Ohio. All it took was one visit - after that, I was obsessed with the iced mochas at Phoenix coffee! Strangely enough, I usually don't like really rich espresso drinks, but at Phoenix they make theirs so smooth and chocolaty that I simply can't resist them :-) In addition to their game-changing iced mocha, you'll also find a number of seasonal drinks featured here - just ask one uber-friendly baristas and they'll be happy to explain what there is and the ingredigents that go into the beverage in question. My compliments to the owners and staff for creating an outstanding Java experience!

I love the coffee and bagels at phoenix. There is a drink for everyone, even non-coffee or caffeine lovers! Additionally the bagels are from cleveland bagel co. I love how they support other cleveland businesses and it does not stop at bagels. There are many other goods throughout the store you can purchase that are on display from small businesses around Cleveland. It's a great work environment and a spot to chill with friends. At this location there are even outdoor tables.

On our walk to the Hall of Fame. Friendly service, and lovely decor. Most importantly, this place made an incredible latte. There was a guy at a nearby table fully working and conferencing out loud on zoom. If we had stayed longer, this would have been irritating.

I had the pleasure of visiting Phoenix Coffee on my last day in Cleveland. The young lady I spoke to served me a great cup of coffee and I purchased a bag of coffee to enjoy back in Los Angeles. The coffee was spot on delicious! Thank you!

Welcoming coffee shop with great vibe. Had a delicious drip coffee and a solid vegan bagel. Particularly enjoyed the wall of house plants you can buy with specific care instructions on each.

Good coffee! This was my first time at this location, bigger than the one in the warehouse district. Service was fast. The space was big but did not seem open to sit. Wish the cappuccino came in a larger size...American probs.

I am so lucky I live so close to this coffee shop. Their coffee is delicious and they have a wide selection of lattes available. I have a sweet tooth when it comes to lattes and there are definitely many options that satisfy this. I have also had the chai tea latte several times and it is also on point, especially when you have a scratchy throat and may need a little ginger. There is plenty of space inside to hang out or study. The service is warm and the baristas are always chatting up with the customers there.

I've stopped by a few times and have always gone away with the thought that the coffee is okay. Is it great? No. Is it bad? No. It's average. During this particular stop, I was on a desperate mission to caffeinate myself before my lunch break ended. In true me-fashion, I went with a mocha instead of a cold brew or anything dark and bitter. I got the largest size, of course, and it was $5 and maybe some change, not too shabby considering the size. However, the mocha was sort of a disappointment. It was a bit bitter so I added sugar but that honestly wasn't the reason for my impression. The reason I was disappointed is that there was a chalky, powdery taste and texture as I drank it. It sort of reminded me of the mocha from Starbucks and that's not a compliment. I've had their latte before and that was perfectly fine so if you're stopping by...maybe don't go for the mocha. If you do decide to stop by I definitely recommend staying. I love the interior of this place. It's roomy with lots of places to sit without feeling impersonal. It is located in a busy business area and parking will always be a pain but it seems like a great place to get work done if you don't mind the bustle.

Do you like good coffee? Do you want to enjoy your coffee in an extremely chill and welcoming cafe? Do you like to support local & sustainable businesses? If you said yes to all three, you really must try this place. The coffee is great. They have Yerba mate if you are longing for that. They have lovely baked goods, even bagels from Cleveland Bagel Co. Their staff is very nice and will explain almost anything to you about their coffee/baked goods. Next time you are in the area, be sure to stop by. Not open on Sundays at this location! Open until 2 pm on Saturdays.

Pleasant experience. Two baristas working really hard with a line of customers but service was prompt. Drinks all made correctly, from chai to matcha to latte to hot chocolate.

One of my favorite locations! Inside is super cozy and welcoming, makes for a great place to catch up with friends or get working/studying done. There are plenty of tables and seating. Phoenix also is one of the coffee shops with the most reasonably priced specialty espresso drinks! They make their oat milk in house and don't charge extra for it. the coffee is delicious and this has become one of my go-tos for a midday pick me up.

Phoenix Coffee was my morning fire that got me going through my morning meetings out in Cleveland! The ambiance is very much of a hipster laid back joint where you will see people on their laptops working. The coffee here is delicious and strong. From a pastry standpoint I went with the baristas recommendation and got the cinnamon muffin which was really good! In short: - Strong Coffee - Delicious Pastries

Phoenix Coffee never disappoints. Great coffee and tea selection with featured seasonal drinks. There is a pastry case with a decent offering of pastries, bagels, etc. (Gluten-free and Vegan options too!) One of the best aspects of Pheonix is that there is no upcharge for oat-milk! (I think this is because they make it themselves) There are plenty of other dairy alternatives available as well. I am lucky enough to work within walking distance of the East 9th location, and stop in quite often. I love the cute and cozy decor and the welcoming vibe the coffee shop gives off. The staff is very friendly and helpful as far as providing recommendations goes - quick service too!

Super cute space, was a great spot to sit and work for a few hours. Although the WiFi wasn't working for any of us in there with our laptops, it was worth using our hotspots to use the space.

This is a little shop right next to work. I like it. Its comfortable, it has a relaxing atmosphere and a lot of people pass through so you can people watch. The menu is basic, coffee, tea, snacks, and they have a good variety of things. The staff is super friendly and nice. I will be here often. Hey! So why not 5 stars. This is dumb! But the front door facing E 9th street squeaks like a rusty submarine door every time someone walks in and out and it happens A LOT! I want to ask for or bring with me a can of WD-40 to spray the hinges so the squeak goes away. It drives me insane! See? I told you it was dumb!

Good coffee, great baked goods. The coffee and tea selections are great - but you can get those anywhere. The baked good (bagels; muffins; scones etc.) are all amazing. They carry enough of a variety to cover various diets (Gluten Free; Vegetarian; Vegan) but not too much that you feel overwhelmed and can't decide. I have a coworker from Manhattan that craves the Gluten Free scones - they are that scrumptious.

Stopped in here this morning for coffee based on the large number of favorable Yelp reviews. First off, as others have noted, it's downtown, so there is not a parking lot you can pull into. You might be able to find some parking meters on the side street across East 9th on Walnut Avenue - which is where I parked. Very cozy coffee shop - smelled amazing from the moment I opened the door - you know, that rich, aromatic, delicious, full-bodied earthy, smoky funk in the air that tells you that high quality bean mud is roasted and served here! I inquired about different types of coffee - they had their standard coffee which is already brewed, I asked about their bold - I was told it was a dark Italian roast - and that if I wanted it - I'd have to wait for 4 minutes, as they would make it to order via French Press. My reaction? Hell yes - let's do this! So I waited my four minutes - was worth the wait too. Coffee was absolutely rich, dark, and delicious! Nice place to sit with your notebook or iPad and get some work done - as a number of people were doing while enjoying their bean juice. Sadly, I had to get mine to go, but I'd love to hang here some time! Folks are nice here, service is good. Check 'em out!

Was walking home from getting my COVID vaccine (woo hoo!) and decided to grab some coffee! I was warmly greeted by the woman at the counter and decided to check out their plants they have before I went to the counter to order. They have lots of other goodies too from locally sourced vendors. The woman at the counter was super sweet and recommended to me one of their seasonal drinks, which did not disappoint. She also told me that they make their oat milk in house, which was a huge plus! They had some baked goods in the window, but I am sure they had sold out of a lot of their inventory as I was there late morning. Definitely check them out and I will definitely be going back!

Came here almost everyday while I was in Cleveland. They made my coffees perfect every time. I'm super fussy about the temperature of my drinks (hot coffee 120 to 125 degrees) and a lot of places get annoyed when I mention about the temperature, but this place made it perfect!! The girls were so kind, too. Thanks Phoenix coffee!

I occasionally travel to Clelvand for work, and was looking for a coffee shop for my morning brew. I saw this place right on the corner of my office's block, so I gave it a shot. It's a really cool, comfy little spot, plenty of seating in and out doors. Both members of staff were welcoming and kind. I ordered a fall spice latte, and I loved it... tasted like a hybrid of a chai and a pumpkin. HIGHLY recommend it. Drink was ready in about a minute. For my first impression, I'm definitely satisfied.... I'll be back in the am!

Phoenix Coffee = YES. I mean really, Cleveland is so lucky to have many awesome local roasters, Phoenix Coffee included. Phoenix is reasonably priced, high quality, and never lets you down. Of their four locations, this one ties as my favorite (with the Ohio City location). For being in the bustling metropolis of East 4th Street in downtown Cleveland, this location is remarkably cozy. They have the most adorable vintage-inspired faux fireplace, and an abundance of green terrariums, regardless of season. There's no shortage of tables inside, and I love having meetings of all types in this location. Keep in mind: all four locations carry different hours. The Ohio City location tends to be open until 7pm, and I have found myself almost scheduling meetings on East 9th in the evening, when they actually close at 5pm. Oops...check those hours on Yelp!

Good vibe. Horrible dirty chai.. watered down. Jasmine tea was also too potent as if they didn't cut the concentrate

Just okay. Latte was one size and not 16 ounces. Too small for the price. Also coffee was not hot enough and cup was not filled up. Coffee tasted average. Desserts were nothing special. Selection was ok but dessert wasn't tasty. Place was cold and not cozy. Wouldn't come back.

Great coffee, friendly staff, free internet, and cool decor. What else do you need? I got a mocha and mint tea (there for a few hours), both were good. I'd come back for sure.

BEST beans in town in my opinion! I come here every couple weeks to stock up on their roasted beans, and I've never been disappointed in the quality or flavor of the coffee I've made with their beans. I have tried many varieties and I appreciate that they include flavor notes on the packaging making it easier for me to select based on my preference. I like that their coffee beans aren't burned or over roasted like many other coffee roasters. If you're sensitive to tannic or bitter notes in your coffee, I think you'll really like Phoenix as theirs tend to hover on the more nutty/smooth side. Highly recommended for the picky coffee drinker!

I love this place. The Phoenix and I have a long and sordid history, but not at this location. The @PhoenixCoffeeCo on East 9th is like an oasis of civilization in downtown Cleveland. I first became hooked on Phoenix (sounds like hooked on phonics) when I lived in Lakewood. (The location has since expanded, changed ownership and changed to The Root Cafe, but the toddy remained!) Back then a nice guy named Phil owned it and another nice guy named Mark ran it. I was there every morning and often later in the day. I was such a regular customer that when I asked why they changed the Sunday opening time from 7 to 8 (I used to take early walks and get there before 8) the first thing Phil said was, "Do you want us to open at 7 again?". You see, the Phoenix takes coffee seriously and is one of few coffeehouses that uses toddy (cold brewed) coffee. A mocha made with toddy instead of espresso is the $#*t, straight up. Since leaving Cleveland I search for coffeehouses that make toddy. Most don't even know what it is...amateurs. Boulder, CO? No toddy. Denver, CO? No toddy. Boston, MA? No toddy. Phoenix, AZ? I actually found a couple places! And sunny SoCal? So far I've found one place... Like so many things, I didn't appreciate how great it was in Cleveland.

Really great tasting maple latte, perfect for a chilly afternoon. Not to sweet and very smooth espresso. Would for sure return! Great atmosphere to come and meet up with a friend or sit and get some work done.

This is my favorite "coffee" shop around because it seems to be the only one that acknowledges the tea lovers among us. They have so many delicious varieties of tea - and are informed about all of them - and can make a mean cup! My personal favorite is the Dragon Well green tea - perfectly balanced (and they make the tea bags from fresh tea in the store, no pre-packaging!) Don't get me wrong - the husband says the coffee is amazing, too! I just have to appreciate anyone who can serve me a good cup of tea!

Espresso was very good. Barista is friendly and knowledgeable. Even found a gluten free chocolate muffin. Atmosphere is mediocre but worth the visit because they will make your drink right and treat you with respect.

If you work downtown, this is the number one place for a cup of coffee. They obviously cater to the business crowd. The hours are 7am - 5pm Monday through Friday only. Unlike some of their other locations, there is no food here; but it's not a problem as there are plenty of good lunch option downtown. They do a lot of takeout business, so the cafe usually has plenty of open seats. I usually see people in suits having business meetings or bike messengers hanging out in between deliveries. The coffee is consistently good. I'm been coming here regularly since I started working downtown two years ago. The one caveat is that I don't come in between 8am and 9am anymore. That's their "rush" period and the line can get annoyingly long (especially when people are ordering fancy drinks that take forever to make).

Everything that I look for in my local coffee shop is at Phoenix. Great coffee? Check. Wonderful tea selection? Check. Friendly staff? Double check. Tables and WiFi for work? Yes! Phoenix is great. I love their standard iced coffee and regular drip coffee. Plus, on occasions when I like to stay uncaffeinated, their tea selection can't be beat. I love a cup of their Ruthie's Tea with honey.

I do love Phoenix coffee. From the laid back vibe to the drip coffee, I'm all about heading to Phoenix for my afternoon caffeine fix. The baristas are really nice... Probably the nicest I've seen in Cle. Coffee is excellent. When I'm feeling like I need to indulge, I get the mocha. Heaven in a cup, I tell you! Extra indulgence is the selection of pastries provided by Bon Bon Cleveland. *yes please!*

During the search for my favorite coffee shop in Cleveland, I decided to visit Phoenix Coffee (per the recommendation of a local Cleveland-er). I was welcomed by a quirky and cute interior with plants and coffee mugs hanging from the ceiling and wall, and a nice fireplace behind some chairs. After admiring all the interior, I finally went to the front and ordered the coconut water latte ($3.50). I'm usually someone who orders plain old black coffee (iced - $2.50 for small, $3.50 for large), but after trying some of my friend's latte, I knew I had to order one for myself. The coconut water latte is perfect for someone who wants a latte, but not something too sweet. You can definitely taste the coconut flavor without it being too overwhelming - it was the perfect drink. I have yet to try their pastries or other drinks, but I'll definitely be returning to try everything else!

Considering how often I visit Phoenix Coffee, I feel that it would be an injustice not to give a review. The shop is easily accessible, lying slightly diagonal from the intersection of Walnut and 9th street. Despite its prominent position right in the heart of downtown, my inner hipster was instantly appealed to from the moment I started becoming a patron. The interior felt rustic and earthy. Furnishing felt second-hand (in a good way) and the tiny, potted plants lining the walls made it feel homely. The most notable thing that caught my attention is how friendly and personable the staff was/is, which for me goes a long way. Obviously, since I stated that I'm a regular, they and I have built a rapport over time, but they have consistently displayed an eagerness for friendly, open conversation with everyone who enters, day in and day out. Now, let's discuss product. I'll let it be known that I am typically a very simple man when it comes to coffee. That is to say, black: no sugar, definitely no cream. This is what I order 99.9% of the time at any coffee establishment. With that said, even I can find the drip coffee here a bit on the strong side. When I first started visiting Phoenix, it didn't seem that strong. Either the water to coffee grounds ratio has changed, or my taste buds have. As it stands right now, the bitterness is almost overwhelming at times, and I rarely finish an entire medium-sized dose of kick-in-the-face coffee as it stands right now. If you're a fellow "purist", proceed with caution, as even the heartiest will be tested. It should be stated that there is also a manual pour option, but I have yet to sample it. Outside of the standard fare, there is a host of espresso, mixed espresso drinks, and tea options available. Tastes range from mocha lovers (recommend the Speedball) to the lighter side. Seasonal blends are available as well, and if you are visiting during the summer months, I highly recommend the Iced Coconut Water Latte. It is most certainly one of my favorites. A host of bottled juices and water, as well as Phoenix merchandise and take-home coffee beans are available for purchase. As is common with coffee bars, a wealth of pastries and bagels are available, and though this is not typically my area of expertise, I highly recommend the Peanut Butter and Jelly cookie. High in sugar and a guilty conscience, you'll love every bite. I swear. Between the low cost (by comparison to competitors in the surrounding area), friendly staff, and laid-back atmosphere, this is the perfect location for a wealth of occasions. Whether it is for business, hanging out with friends, sight-seeing, or simply grabbing a hot cop of Joe, I'm sure you'll find a new favorite at Phoenix Coffee.

A great coffee place to relax and unwind! Quick service from an extremely friendly staff - my large cold brew coffee was excellent. I'll definitely be back the next time I'm wandering around downtown.

Phoenix coffee is my Monday-Friday coffee addiction. The baristas give a ritz Carlton experience every morning I come in for coffee. They have a great rewards program as well, for every ten coffees you buy you get 4.99 worth of product for free.

We are in town for a convention and happened upon this little gem. Food items are limited but delicious (we had cheese scones and ginger scones), and the espresso was super smooth and not bitter. They also had ice teas and coffees.... overall, worth the short walk from the convention center!

Wanted to try this location since I thought maybe it'd be different than the Ohio city location with the barista. Nope the mocha was too milky. I do like the fact they have a golden milk chai option I'd like to try it with soy

Super cool coffee house. The woman behind the counter and I got into a 45 second debate that was playing. Short but fun debate. I don't think I've ever been to a coffee house that even though it was designed for patrons to stay the maximum time of 1.5 hours, it still was a place I could see myself staying for hours. The patrons were cool too; professional yet laid back. Now the food. I would have preferred a larger, less stocked food selection and maybe a breakfast sandwich of the day, but the croissant I have was tasty nonetheless. The coffee was STEE_RONG. Like...kung fu in the face strong (hiiii-YAH!!!). Not a big coffee guy, but I tell you what...it definitely worked as far as waking me up. The nosy man in me noticed that the lattes were pretty popular here. I defintely will be returning when I get back to Cleveland.

This place is great for coffee enthusiasts, but very sad for the tea fanatic. For a place that boasts of their brewing methods for coffee, it's pretty heartbreaking to have them dump even the frailest of green & white teas into boiling water, hopelessly burning the cup before I can even attempt to rescue the poor leaves. The sad part is, it seems like the loose leaf teas they have are probably pretty decent. But unless you like your tea burnt & bitter, this is sadly the wrong place to go. Go to Vintage around the block, delicious tea brewed right. But, the coffee is really good.

I loved the atmosphere of this coffee shop! It's very rustic and calm, which is what I love in a coffee shop. I got the cold brew and it was a little sweeter than I would have liked, but it was still very strong. The scones are also amazing! They also have paper straws! This is something that's very important to me, as I am constantly trying to find ways to reduce my plastic use! I would definitely recommend this place!

I've been by this place for years thinking it was some old place past it's prime. Then I stumbled into the OH City one, enjoyed myself, and figured I'd try this one. Even walking up to it today though, I wasn't even sure it was open. The inside thankfully is much brighter and more lively than the storefront. There are varied seating options for groups, couples and solo visitors. It's really spacious and honestly a nicer setting than downtown's largest Starbucks (that being the 14th St one I think). This is definitely the nicest downtown coffee shop to sit and work in. (It's just as nice as Pour but perhaps more cozy). I didn't do anything fancy here, just a drip coffee as the line was pretty long (but they moved it along a lot faster than Starbucks' baristas). The coffee I really enjoyed. Not sure which one I actually got as the signage was poor and there weren't any options to pick from, but it was good - definitely worthy of competition with Cleveland's newest coffee shops. There's a big bakery case as well. Next time I'll have to get something and also next time I'll have to try an espresso....the dirty cup bin was full of 5 espresso cups which seemed a lot to me so they must be tasty.

Cozy local coffee shop located in the heart of Downtown Cleveland. Phoenix coffee in one word is AMAZING! They serve high quality coffee, teas, snacks and pastries all from local purveyors and shops. Great place to stop for your afternoon caffeine fix. The East 9th location has been recently updated with a fresh coat of paint and large modern reclaimed wood communal tables and comfy armchairs which lend to having quick meetings or just some alone time with your hot cup o'joe. I normally order their basic latte's however if I really need an afternoon pick me up/sugar rush I'll go for the speedball or stuporball. They are basically cold brew mocha coffees with an added shot of espresso in the stuporball. Try one if you dare! Also good to note they carry bagels from Cleveland Bagel Co.!

The thing about Phoenix is that it's consistently amazing across all locations and it still keeps it's vibe. Who else can do that? I'm not really sure. But E9th is no exception. They still have high quality brews, teas and service. Awesome!! Just be aware that the CLE Police are on those meters like white on rice. Even the owner herself carries rolls of quarters with her because she knows how bad the cops are. Smart lady :-D Also, this location has hours that cater more to the downtown business crowds, which makes sense. Just keep that in mind if you're thinking about grabbing a late coffee.
