"Rare and Out-of-Print Photography Books In 1979, what started as a mail order book business has grown into an impressive storefront and gallery. Spend ample time in this smartly-curated, stellar photography bookstore with rare and unusual finds devoted to contemporary photography. The gallery also presents fine photography."

Ok ok ok- we love books! We love photography- so a bookstore dedicated to photography books- it was a wonderful way to spend a few hours. Staff was friendly too. I mentioned liking a particular photographer and the woman found not one -but two of that artist’s books and let be review them. I had one already and bought the other. That’s crazy good service. There was also a very nice gallery area showing some stunning photographs from several different photographers. Really well done. I’d say this place is well worth a trip when ever you are visiting and want to see some great photography.

A must stop. Wish I had more time to browse their extensive collection. Out of prints available.

If you love books, go browse the library at Photo Eye Books. If you love picture books, photography and creative design, then you will be rewarded handsomely. The large format photo graphics, art and atmosphere are worth a visit. The new location is spacious and co temporary, filled with indirect natural light. And, the clientele is the cream of the crop for devoted people watchers. Books are highly collectible and high value, but worth every dollar!

One of the great photography bookstores in the country. It's not a huge space with a vast comprehensive collection. Rather, the densely stocked shelves represent an elegantly curated selection of the most essential and remarkable photography books in print (and out of print). Significantly, reflective of influence and appreciation, many of the books are signed by the artists. There is the welcome and rare atmosphere of a sort of Borgesian library of photography, where what is more important is the physical presence of the book as an almost mystical technology to collect and display art. Owing to online sales and a well-respected mail-order business, you enter into the beautiful space of photo-eye without feeling like you are the consumer in a commodified environment. What is most important are the books and the beauty within them. Of course, you should buy these books and do whatever you can to support photo-eye. Bookstores like this have become precious places in the post-Amazon environment. For me, there is a sense of making a pilgrimage to photo-eye. After many years of working in bookstores, there is welcome sense of surprise to discover a plethora of titles I've never seen before, to open up so many books that inspire breathtaking wonder. Sublime collections of Wynn Bullock's work, an amazing work called The Last Testament by James Bendiksen, right beside it is The Disappearance of Joseph Plummer, stunning photos and collections of Karl Blossfeldt, Salgado and Saudek, beautifully made-by-hand pamphlets along with the subway photos of Helen Levitt and the evocative almost-lost-to-obscurity collections of Vivian Maier. There are also tantalizing shelves of Out of Print books towards the back. As with all great bookstores, you feel as if you could spend ages here and never exhaust your wonder. photo-eye is such a rare gift of a place, go experience it, open yourself up the the mysteries of the image, buy something, enrich your life.

Yelp
Ordered a signed copy of Gregory Halpern's latest book quite some time ago. I was just informed that they had no more signed copies and they were very sorry, but they did have an unsigned copy though they were sold out too. Not sure how that works. Why is something marketed if it's not actually available? I wouldn't be surprised to see a signed, pristine copy of the same book for sale for a much higher price in a year through their site.

Yelp
Best bookstore for photographers!! I can spend all day here...wait. maybe a week? Not just this particular book store. The nice little coffee shop few doors down sell sandwiches and little desserts also have some cool magazines. I will come here weekly if I am live in Santa Fe! Some of the limited prints are pretty reasonable priced!

Yelp
This review is strictly for their mail-order service, and I only wish I'd discovered their store during our last visit to Santa Fe. Anyway; I wanted a very heavy out-of-print book that was priced better here than anywhere else, and particularly since Photo-Eye's copy was in "new" condition. I ordered the book online, but I had a question and called them the next morning. The woman I spoke to - who was actually located in the store - was very pleasant and helpful. The book arrived today and it's in perfect condition, plus it was incredibly well-packed. (Update on 3/2/16): It's four years later and their mail order service is still *outstanding*. Occasionally I order books from them and all aspects are always terrific. Today I called to ask a question about a pending order, and the young guy I spoke to (Christian) was *incredibly* friendly. (Update on 6/1/17): More outstanding service, as always; today I spoke to someone in the bookstore (Laura) re: an order, and she was also incredibly friendly & helpful.

Yelp
This was a great photography bookstore with some unusual finds. If you're interested in southwestern artists or interesting work, you will definitely find something worth buying here.

Yelp
This place is densely packed with photography books. You walk in and you're eye is quickly drawn to the tall walls full of books, from floor to ceiling - easy to overlook the prints. I've never seen some of these books, some from local photographers as well as from photography teachers at the Santa Fe Workshops. I spent a couple hours pouring through some interesting ones on underground Japanese cultures and India landscape. The staff is very helpful in finding specific titles on their database and in the shop. Arguably, one of the best and largest selections of monographs, limited editions and other photo books in the country. How can you walk out empty-handed? Too heavy for my suitcase, I had a few books shipped. They were perfectly packed and arrived within a few days. It was so nice to come home and find a little bit of Santa Fe waiting for me.
