Phú Quốc International Airport

Despite being the only airport that serves a major tourist destination in Vietnam with a lot of international travellers coming in, Phu Quoc (International) Airport is basically a joke where efficiency is something really left to be desired. The lines at check-in counter are incredibly long and that crowded situation is in no small part due to the chaotic way of even showing flights on departure board, as it can be very confusing (or maybe even impossible) to find your flight. Furthermore, there are often only one or two working counters at security check, which in turns leads to very long lines (pictured). And the standard delaying time here is 30 minutes, which means a scheduled, let's say, 10.00 am flight would take off no earlier than 10.30. To make it worse, there are often no annoucement at all and travellers are left to navigate in their own self, without any clear guidance in (even) Vietnamese or English. So... avoid this airport if you don't really need it.

Had a really pleasant experience at Phu Quoc International Airport. The entire process, right from arrival to immigration, was smooth and well-organized. The immigration staff were polite, efficient, and helpful, ensuring that everything moved quickly and without confusion. The airport itself is clean, modern, and easy to navigate, which made the whole experience quite comfortable. What stood out was the variety of shops and eateries inside — from souvenirs to snacks and local specialties, everything was reasonably priced compared to many other international airports. It was refreshing to see that shopping here didn’t feel overpriced or overly touristy. The staff at the stores and counters were equally courteous and approachable, adding to the overall pleasant experience. Overall, Phu Quoc International Airport left a great impression — well-managed, traveler-friendly, and the perfect start or end to a tropical island getaway. 🌴🇻🇳

Phu Quoc International Airport is a small, modern facility that handles crowds reasonably well most of the time, but it definitely needs improvements in several areas. The immigration process is extremely slow, with long queues that can take forever— it feels like they’re deliberately understaffed to push everyone toward paid fast-track/VIP services (heavily promoted everywhere) to make extra money. Check-in is chaotic and unorganized, packed with self-service kiosks and endless lines. Plan to arrive at least 4 hours early for international flights to avoid stress. There are no proper lounge facilities for most passengers (only a basic paid business lounge), and shockingly, no free WiFi at all—unlike almost every other international airport that offers at least 15-30 minutes complimentary. I relied on an eSIM but couldn’t activate it until landing, ending up overpaying massively for a taxi due to no connectivity. During a transit, I lost my phone, and the staff were not helpful at all in assisting with lost & found. Overall, it’s functional for a growing tourist hub, but these issues made my experience frustrating. Hope they add free WiFi and streamline processes soon! Clean modern airport, but too small for traffic and poorly managed. Arrival on domestic flight was fine. Used grab for transfer - they meet guests near the flagpoles. Watch your messages to coordinate with driver. Departure was horrible: only 1 check-in line (VietJet Air),no line Management, lots of people cutting in, utter chaos. Long line at immigration - I was able to use priority line, so that was quick. But single security screening, long wait, general chaos... Airport needs to invest in separation bands, like every other airport; distribute check ins better: 3 flights checking in next to each other, neighboring counters unused; implement online check-in or kiosks - I had no baggage, still had to wait 90min to check-in! Plus 30min for immigration/security - and that's with priority! If you don't have priority, I'd arrive at least 3h before departure. I'd avoid VietJet and other budget airlines, it adds to the chaos... I'd happily pay for priority check in and FastTrack security to avoid this chaos, but it wasn't offered. I did see tauts take customers to the front of the various lines, I guess you can pay if you know the right people... Only one staircase used for bus boarding, so again unnecessarily slow... There is a sens lounge with access for Dragonpass, Priority pass, etc - it's quiet, has food, drinks, wifi - a peaceful retreat from the mayhem... The airport experience alone will stop me from returning to Phu Quoc, until they drastically improve the airport...

is a relatively small airport but gets extremely busy, especially during the Tet holiday. Expect long lines at check-in and a crowded terminal. Good side is the airport is very clean. One confusing point is the security check area — there are two directions: the left side is for domestic flights and the right side is for international flights, but there are no clear signs showing this. It can easily cause delays and frustration for passengers. That said, if you’re flying to Phu Quoc, you don’t really have many alternatives, so you just have to plan extra time. I flew with , which is quite popular but also known for delays. So it wasn’t a surprise when my flight was delayed. However, the departure board didn’t even update the delay information, leaving passengers waiting without clear communication.

This airport is very small and cannot handle both arriving and departing passengers well. It takes at least 1.5 hours to get through immigration. However, if you pay extra money, you can go first - the staff will offer this option while you’re waiting in line. For check-in, each airline only has 1-2 counters, so you need to arrive at least 3-4 hours early. The worst part is there’s only 1 baggage scanning lane open. The best thing about this airport is that you can bring drinking water through security. Everything else needs improvement. Hopefully the new airport they’re building in the future will be better for tourists. As for the tourist attractions, it feels like visiting a miniature/replica town. If you like that kind of thing, it’s okay.​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

The airport is small. It was late when our flight landed so not many stores or cafes were open. Since you do not need a visa it wasn't much of a hassle . The baggage came in quickly . When we departed too we did not have any tassels. Very few shops r there for purchase. When exiting I exchanged my remaining VND at one of the stores for a good price. The staff is polite n helpful

The arrival process took a long time, especially at immigration. It was quite slow despite not being very crowded. However, the airport layout is very straightforward, so there’s no confusion in finding your way. Everything is well-signed and easy to navigate. On the other hand, the departure process was fast and efficient. Check-in and security were smooth and didn’t take much time at all. Overall, a mixed experience — slow arrival, but quick and easy departure.
