Pianaura Suites, Marano di Valpolicella, near Verona, northern Italy - Explore & Book

"You’ve probably drunk its wine, but chances are you’d struggle to pinpoint Valpolicella on a map. And good thing too, as it means this trio of leafy valleys, tucked away in the hills above Verona, has remained blissfully tourist-free. It’s a well-kept secret that’s worth exploring - not only for its grapes, but for its stunning landscapes, its sleepy medieval villages, and this rather special B&B.Standing sentry over a terraced hillside, it occupies a pair of tall 17th-century farmhouses that have been lovingly restored by owners Mara and Filippo. One is now their dream home; the other, a guest block housing 2 spoiling suites and a lounge. Inside, all is white and bright, with beamed ceilings, shuttered windows and a stylish mish-mash of contemporary furniture and flea-market finds. Outside, lawns burst with lavender, poppies and fragrant herbs, and easy chairs sit under pergolas whose gauzy curtains billow in the breeze. If you want to stay put, find a secluded spot among the flowers and gaze out over the vines to the silvery mountains glinting on the horizon. Head out and you can hike through meadows, picnic by waterfalls or dip into the sights of Verona and Lake Garda. And of course, there are plenty of wineries to visit, too. Highs A rural setting away from the crowds, but well-placed for exploring; Verona is a 20-minute drive in one direction, Lake Garda is a 30-minute drive in the otherA sensitive transformation of beautiful old buildings, with chic interiors, restored stonework and an ingenious new tunnel linking the towersPerfect for romance and relaxation: four-poster beds, a spa room for massages and yoga, and an outdoor hydrotherapy poolMara and Filippo are exceptional hosts - and their golden retriever Seta will quickly become your new best friendEverything has been designed to make you feel special - complimentary carafes of local wine, jars of homemade biscuits... Lows No lunch, dinner or bar (breakfast is served in the lounge area), and the nearest restaurants are a drive away; you'll need a carNo children under 14 are acceptedIt's accessed via a single-track lane with a vertical drop on one side. Be prepared for some careful manoeuvring if you meet a car coming in the other directionCredit cards aren’t accepted, so you’ll have to bring plenty of cash" - Abi Dare

Simply the most beautiful retreat just outside Verona! Two private apartments, beautifully designed and restored. Impressive grounds with gorgeous views of the vineyards. A little pool and several spots to have breakfast, lunch or dinner. The perfect spot for a perfect holiday. What made it the best though was Mara, the host of Pianaura Suites. She was not there herself whilst we were there but she still made it her mission to make our little vacation the best possible. She made all our dinner reservations, had the best recommendations for activities in the area and also arranged for our transfer back to Verona (which is a little tricky - your own car / rental is definitely a recommendation 😅). In the end she had arranged that her wonderful housekeeper took us to the city. That just goes to show how important it is for Mara to adhere to our every need. !!! Recommended - 100/100 !!!

One of our favorite stays--the location is simply beautiful. The grounds are very well kept and you can spend an entire day (or several) soaking in all of the details and views. Mara was an incredibly kind and attentive host, and checked in with us frequently to ask if we needed anything or if she could assist us with making reservations (she had the best suggestions for food, drinks, and activities in Valpolicella and beyond). We stayed in the lower suite and it was lovely; the provided breakfast items were just enough for our time there and the perfect addition to slow mornings spent in the little courtyard/garden. Would absolutely come back again and I highly recommend to anyone considering staying in Valpolicella.

Pianaura suites are set in a beautiful Italian countryside location, in a restored villa with lovely views of the countryside, and lovely grounds to relax and enjoy the surrounding countryside. There is plenty to do in Valpolicella, Lake Garde and Verona only 25 minutes away to each. Mara is also a wonderful hostess, who always makes sure that you have what you need for a wonderful stay. I'd definitely stay again if back in the Valpolicella region.

We inadvertently ended up spending 2 nights at Pianaura suites owing to another BnB falling through at the last minute and Mara was able to accommodate us. I must say we are both delighted the other place fell through as the Pianaura Suites were perfect for us! The setting is idyllic - beautiful views, expertly crafted landscape and gardens to optimise privacy and experiencing the natural environment. The restored houses are stunning and as you go into the apartment, you can just feel how much heart and character has been put into the rooms. Beautiful decor, tastefully done, accentuating the space without ever feeling cluttered. The breakfast room was very cute with antique crockery in the cupboards, very generous food and drinks and everything you need. It's the perfect location to really explore the Valpolicella region, or if you fancy, just sitting in the courtyard with a glass of local Ripasso and enjoying the sound of nature around you. The element that makes this so special though is definitely Mara - she's such a warm and welcoming person and was so helpful during our stay. This is not an ordinary BnB - this is a place that she and her husband have made feel like a second home for visitors. We will definitely be visiting again when we head to the region.

I had high expectations based on all the reviews I had read about Pianaura and my communications with Mara prior to arriving but all of them were exceeded by a long shot after my heavenly 3 night stay. Pianaura is truly a rare treat that is hard to come by these days. It is secluded, stunning, luxurious and homely all at the same time. From the moment we arrived we were greeted by 2 kittens and a gorgeous golden named Seta, we fell in love instantly. ||||The house itself is just incredible, renovated with no detail spared. Modern yet they kept all the right bits of 16th century charm. We stayed in the lower of the two rooms and it was just lovely, the room had all we would need, including a fresh bottle of wine and crackers each day that was such an unexpected, but welcomed, treat! Every aspect of the property from the views, the gardens and peaceful nights are everything you could hope for when trying to escape into the Italian countryside. ||||Last, but not least, I must comment on how welcoming and warm both Mara and her husband are. From the moment we arrived Mara was going above and beyond to ensure our stay was perfect. From dinner reservations, winery tours, to beautiful breakfasts and activity guidance she knew it all and we were extremely grateful. You will instantly feel at home.||||We are still dreaming of our stay at Pianaura and counting down until we find ourselves there again soaking in the sunshine and snugging Seta!

We stayed at Pianaura for 4 nights and loved everything about it - the location (stunning and very peaceful in a beautiful valley and only 25 mins from Verona airport), the room (we were upstairs - spacious, stylish and very cleverly climate controlled using a geothermal system), the hosts (Mara and her daughter Maria are warm, helpful and very hospitable), the massage (first class), the breakfast (spot on). There are several excellent and good value local restaurants within 5 mins drive and Verona city is 30 mins away. We spent a day at Lake Garda and although beautiful, we regretted it as too busy with people and traffic - we were delighted to get back to the peace and quiet of Pianaura. Highly recommended.

What a Beautiful hidden gem! From the first mailcontact with owner Mara we knew we were in good hands. Been to many nice places in the world, but she and her husband put so much effort in the interior and in details, it shows. A perfect place to relax, with a lovely garden and small 'pool' in the garden. Lots to do around, Lago Di Garda, winetasting, cycling, Culture! Verona is only 20 min by car. Every day a nice breakfast and a bottle of wine....loved it! Will def come back (or stay in their other apt in Verona!)!
