Important: reserve your tickets through the website. Otherwise you’ll have to wait much longer. Paintings aside (preferential to each person) the building is very modern, clean and well laid out. The staff are super friendly. You can rent audio tours on your phone. Prices are very reasonable. Great food and old church near by.

The museum has multiple exhibits, not only from Picasso. I enjoyed the visit, Picasso really had a unique way of seeing the world. I honestly didn’t vibe too much with his art. I felt more attracted by the paintings of Oscar Dominguez. I cannot explain, my opinion is that you can only feel art and not explain it. We bought online tickets, were 13 or 14€ per person and you are let inside at the time of appointment - we arrived early and expected to skip the queue but because of appointment the people waiting in line to buy tickets on the spot got inside before us. So I cannot say we had any advantage.

A good but underwhelming visit to the Picasso Museum in Malaga. The location and architecture of the building are fantastic, with a great setting in the city center. However, if you are hoping to see his most famous masterpieces, you will be disappointed as they are not on display here. The collection is interesting nonetheless, as it focuses on the evolution of his artistic style and his inspiration, offering a unique look at his creative process. It was still a worthwhile visit, but set your expectations accordingly.

Well, not everyone can resonate with Picasso's art or style, that is for sure. I advise you to buy tickets online for the start. You cannot bring food or beverage / water into the exhibition. Also must leave your backpack at the garderobe. You can also scan a QR code and gain access to the audio guide of Picasso's creations. ( drawings, paintings, plaster, bronze, wood ) There were two more surrealist artists featured at the same time I visited. After the tour, you can rest in the cafeteria or buy Picasso or art related books or souvenirs. The restroom was also clean.

Magnificent place to take a family on a short museum visit. The exhibits are very linear and from start to finish it only takes about 30-45 minutes if you hustle through. There are hundreds of beautiful paintings, drawings and sculptures from Picasso himself and there was a smaller temporary cubism exhibit from a newer artist. Wonderful gift shop and the indoor areas of the museum are climate controlled. Highly recommend!

We visited the Museo Picasso Málaga yesterday and had a wonderful time. The museum is beautifully organized, with a great selection of Picasso’s works that really show the evolution of his style over the years. It was fascinating to learn more about his life and connection to Málaga. The building itself is also lovely, adding to the overall experience. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the city!

Google
Museo Picasso Málaga is a must-visit, housed in the historic Buenavista Palace. The museum was created to honor Picasso in his birthplace, a wish he held throughout his life. Its permanent collection, generously donated by members of the Picasso family, showcases over 200 works that span his entire career, from early academic studies to Cubism. You can buy tickets on-site, and even if you arrive in the afternoon, you can still easily enter.

I recently had the pleasure of visiting the Museo Picasso Málaga in southern Spain, and it was an unforgettable experience. Nestled in the heart of Picasso’s birthplace, this museum offers a beautifully curated journey through the life and work of one of the most iconic artists of the 20th century. The building itself, the 16th-century Buenavista Palace, is stunning and adds a historic charm to the experience. Inside, the layout is clean and modern, allowing Picasso’s artwork to take center stage. The collection features an impressive range of his styles—spanning early sketches, ceramics, and some of his later abstract pieces—giving visitors a real sense of his evolution as an artist. What I especially appreciated was how the museum didn’t just showcase his most famous works, but also provided insight into his lesser-known pieces and techniques. The audio guide and descriptions were informative without being overwhelming, perfect for both casual visitors and art aficionados. Overall, the Museo Picasso Málaga was a highlight of my time in the city. Whether you're a fan of Picasso or just appreciate art, it’s well worth a visit. The atmosphere is calm and inspiring, and it truly honors the legacy of a creative genius.

Yelp
Recommended. A small comfortable museum. A wide variety of his styles. Lots of seating. Easy to see it all in an hour. It is almost mandatory that you buy your tickets online. Museum is very popular. Clean bathrooms. €10

Yelp
I am not a big fan of modern art, so we went 'cause my husband wanted to go. The good thing is that we saved each 12 euros by going on Sunday after 5pm. It's basically free the last two hours on Sundays. The closing time depends on the season, so please check the museum website for the most updated opening times. I have also posted a picture of the opening times for those wanting to know... The museum has two stories, each one with a exhibition hall. Both show art pieces from Picasso at various stages in his life and career. The building itself is beautiful with a nice open courtyard in the center. There is free WiFi provided inside the museum.

Yelp
Stopped here mid-day on Wednesday and surprisingly didn't have a wait. Two levels and located in the Buenavista Palace (ground beneath is an Archaeological site). Museum has 285 of Picasso's work. In addition, the Echo Of Picasso-exhibiting works from Artists inspired by Picasso. Took me about 90 minutes with audio tour but could've easily spent more time here. Great selection in the Gift shop and picked up a few items. Since Malaga is his birthplace thought this would be the largest collection-that title goes to Musee Picasso-Paris. A good showing of work from his formative years. Definitely worth the visit!

Yelp
Not a huge museum/ art gallery. Very doable in two hours or so. I learned Picasso was a womanizer and many of his abstract paintings depicted the body parts of his wife and lovers. I also learned Picasso was able to switch to various styles of art, not just cubist. All the photos I've posted here are his work- quite impressive. I've never been a big fan of this artist, yet it was informative. Our tour company scheduled a visit to see this museum while we were in Malaga, as it was his birthplace.

Yelp
I am giving four stars for the quality of the art inside. I can also say that the café and store are good and the arrangement and layout of the exhibits are good, and the audio guide is good. Ticketing however, is very much ungood. To begin with, tickets are very difficult to get, and you must buy them online to have any chance -- for us at least, and another couple we met, their website was not selling tickets even when tickets were available. We had trouble with our credit cards. once you get there, the queue can be more than a block long. If you don't have tickets, you wait in a different queue, and once you have the tickets you must get at the end of the other queue for more waiting. overall, this is a very annoying and a very inefficient system. We've been to two other Picasso museums before this one -- in Barcelona and in Paris -- and I suppose there was less demand in these because in both cases we just walked in, bought the tickets, and entered without any delays or queues. I do understand that there is more demand here in Malaga than in those other locations. Nevertheless, the Museum here needs to make some improvements to the efficiency of its system, as we saw many customers getting frustrated or even angry at the delays and the messed up admission process.

Yelp
Would have loved to ed to give this 5 stars, but this fail is on Yelp. Museum closes at 6:00 not 8:pm.

Yelp
Terrible experience, you get the thing to listen to but Picasso pictures don't have numbers so impossible. No Bueno

Yelp
Picasso baby what else do you need to know. How can you not go see some of the work from one of the greatest artists in the world. You must visit if you have the opportunity.
google avatar

Yelp
A must-see when you're in Malaga. Children 15 and under get in for free so if you have kids, make sure you have their passports or ID cards showing date of birth, there is an additional charge of 1 Euro for the listening device. I don't recall prices for adults, but you can pay for just the Picasso exhibit or a little extra to view any temporary exhibits. For adults, the admission includes the handheld device which talks about various paintings. At the time of visit (July 2018) there was a temporary Warhol exhibit which was phenomenal. Some of the pieces on loan I had seen at their original museum sites. "Clouds" is always an interesting interactive piece with the silver rectangles floating in the air. Picasso was a prolific artist during his time - many of the works were drawings, paintings, but I was impressed with the ceramic pieces. He worked in many different mediums during his time! The building also has an interesting archeological site in the basement which I found fascinating with the original foundation of housing, roads, etc. Definitely check out when visiting Malaga.

Yelp
Bumped into this (free) museum as I was exploring Malaga alone and it was so much fun! Very quite, be careful in taking photos as I was called out a few times but these pieces of art are quite exquisite. Lots of good learning that day!

Yelp
The only thing better than a great Picasso museum with a Calder show is getting to see it all for free. We were lucky to show up on Sunday afternoon when the museum is free fr the last two hours (5-7). They had a great Picasso collection covering all the stages of his artistic development. They also had an exhibition that juxtaposed the works of Calder and Picasso highlighting the influence they had on each other as they changed the art world. This is definitely a "must see" in Malaga.

Yelp
Pro: An absolute must! Being able to say that you visited an exhibit of one of the world's greatest artists IN HIS HOMETOWN is beyond a bragging right, to say the least! The Museo Picasso was the reason I drove back to Malaga from Marbella, and it was worth it. The audio tour offered was available in multiple languages, so chances are that your idiom is represented. As an added bonus, a dual exhibit of Picasso and Alexander Calder was offered. To view the works of two of the 20th century's most seminal artists was definitely with the money! Con: The Sunday I visited Malaga happened to be the day where a half-marathon was being run. It took a while to get around the race traffic. Bottom Line: If you're already in the south of Spain during touristy things, then you need this in your life!

Yelp
Wonderful exhibition space, we saw three great shows. Picasso, picasso y Los Antigua's and Paola Rego, whose works stole the limelight, with their whimsy and humor.

Yelp
Excellent museum with VERY long lines - make sure you buy your tickets on-line ahead of time. It is a wonderful museum with many rooms. It is well done & informative on his personal & professional life which almost always got enmeshed in his works. Whether or not you're a fan, this is a MUST to visit & learn about this extraordinary artist.

Yelp
Glad we stopped by In our mind this museum is a must see attraction in Malaga, the birth place of the famous artist. The museum is a short walk from our hotel, easy to find with clear street directional signs. Admission is 9 euros and comes with audio guide. The museum is in a serene two story building. Absolutely no picture taking is allowed. The display includes the artist's 80 years of work. I was impressed with the somewhat bizarre Woman with Foliage sculpture. I have previously seen his masterpieces in Madrid and MOMA. This visit just added another viewing check mark. A long line already formed by the time we exited.

Yelp
Space is smartly planned and easy to navigate through. They date Picasso's work in a series of styles by time period in clearly marked wings. Courtyard is well shaded and museum cafe is the perfect respite from a busy day in the city. Their Picasso collection is a must but they also offer other temporary exhibitions which you can bundle up with.

Yelp
Driving here is problematic; best to park well away because the two nearby parking structures were allready full. So, just walk in or take a taxi. Be sure to ask for a discount, if you qualify. Professors or pensioners are not listed, but recognized with proper ID. I didn't realize his father was an artist as well as curator of the local art museum. Maybe the paintings aren't his best, but the audioguide is absolutely splendid mixing commentary with his own words. Well done! And while the new building is controversial because it replaced two historical buildings, don't miss the basement archeological ruins which were uncovered. I'd skip the cafe and the gift shop. Great museum to learn more about his lesser appreciated works...

Yelp
Incredible museum in a breathtaking town. Since Picasso was born here, this felt like a must see place, and it was. It houses a unique collection of his work that was donated by friends and family of Picasso. Very unique pieces! It's a great way to learn more about the man and his art. You get headphones to wear so you can get more information on various pieces and time periods as you move throughout the museum. I can't recommend this museum enough. Go see it!
google avatar

Emily M.

Yelp
Super fun museum with a lot of Picasso's work throughout his life. The museum does a good job of describing how his life influences his work. Also, for students, there is a student discount! Make sure to show your ID at the front counter. The extra exhibits in my opinion are definitely worth it. The one we saw was about Olga Picasso and I found it the most intriguing exhibit. It was also very large.

Yelp
Great exhibit of Pablo Picasso's birthplace. Unfortunately, I was not able to take photos( museum policy). Price was 10 euros which included Pablo Picasso exhibits and audio guide as well as Jackson Pollock. Must see if you come to Malaga.
google avatar

Abbie O.

Yelp
Of course this museum houses mainly Picassos, but it also contains several works by up-and-coming Spanish artists, plus pieces by artists from other areas of the world.

Yelp
Pablo Picasso was born in Malaga on the 25th of October 1881 and this museum celebrates the work of this visionary artist. The museum was inaugurated mainly due to the efforts of his grandson and daughter-in-law who donated a lot of pieces to the permanent exhibition The museum is located in the old town and has a conventional entrance for such an unconventional artist. The galleries are divided into permanent and temporary galleries with separate admission fees to both but there's a discounted joint entry ticket if you want to visit both The musuem is well laid out and though modern art isn't really my favourite genre of art, it was interesting to see the development of his style There is a comprehensive bookshop attached to the museum, selling everything Picasso A nice way to while some time away in Malaga

Yelp
7.00€ entrance with student ID and then you get an audio guide as you enter! I enjoyed the way it took you through the timeline of the development of his style. Not too crowded when we went (during Semana Santa). The quotes on the walls really brought a personal touch to the different stages of his work. The audio guide had great commentary which makes up for the fact that this exhibit doesn't hold many of his most famous pieces. You really shouldn't miss the opportunity; If you are in his birthplace, you should go for it!! Find out how Pablo became the Picasso we know and love!:

Yelp
Nicely housed and presented. We visited here in March and in July 2017. In March, the visit was much more enjoyable. We could stand and enjoy Picasso's work and there were very few others in the museum. In July, it was packed with tours and tourists, so much that with some paintings, we had to wait for others to move on in order to view them. If you possibly can schedule your visit for other than the summer months, I would recommend it. Currently, there are around 50 paintings on display, plus the dishes and linoleums. These had been added since March. The inside of the building is completely modern and everything is spaciously displayed. When you buy your ticket (6€ owner 65, 10€ regular for both Picasso + special exhibit), if you are carrying a backpack or bag ( not purse), you must check it. There is a gift shop immediately upon entering and there is a pleasant cafe in the courtyard. The restrooms are one level down and are very clean and modern. I am assuming because of so many visitors yesterday, the monitors were trying to make everyone follow the 'route' and not just wander around enjoying the art. We had monitors stop us 3 times and check our tickets. It is definitely better to plan a visit during a less busy month. Oh, and parking nearby is non existent. We always park at the very nice, clean garage at the port. It is about a 10-15 minute walk from the port parking garage, past the Roman theater, to the. Picasso Museum (tucked down a tiny street so easy to miss).

Yelp
Not a bad visit, but too much walking and stairs. This would not be fine for the people with knee issues.

Yelp
Lovely building in a lovely area. It's worth coming here so don't think my 3 stars reflect that you shouldn't visit. You should! I've been saving coming here till I had visitors from abroad. And when I did, we paid a visit. The 3 stars is because the collection of Picasso is small. It's a Picasso museum, so I was expecting heaps of Picasso art. Most of the art is by other artists. Barcelona has his better work.

Yelp
Our group went to the Picasso museum and had a nice visit. I really enjoyed the film by an American that spent several months with Picasso. He explained a lot about the artist and gave us an insight into his world.

Linda F.

Yelp
Malaga is the birthplace of Picasso and the museum highlights many of his significant works as well as items from private collections. The exhibit of Picasso's work comes from a private collection. Picasso wanted to share his work with his home city. Through the efforts of his daughter-in-law and grandson and the donation of their collection. The museum was constructed by an Andalusian authorities' political decision. Seeing this beautiful building itself is a special experience. Entry fee is 7,00Euros. A reduced fee of 5Euros for seniors and free entrance for handicapped and children under 18 (under 13 must be accompanied by an adult). An audio guide is available in 10 different languages, the 1Euro fee is well worth the cost. Check the hours on line since they change according to seasons and holidays.
google avatar

Peter M.

Yelp
If you've never been to a gallery dedicated to Picasso's work this is OK but not great. The collection is limited and doesn't convey the amazing development of one of the greatest and most important painters/artists of the 20th century. If you can, go to the Museo Picasso in Barcelona instead, which guides you much better and has a much richer collection too.
google avatar

Nick D.

Yelp
A little underwhelming. A lovely building, and the works are well displayed, but the collection is not very inspiring. A pleasant enough 45 minutes, but it's not going to give Tate Modern any nightmares.

Qype User (kristi…)

Yelp
My favourite newer venue in the city is the Picasso museum. On indefinite loan from the Picasso family, the exhibits are some of his rarer and more personal work, displayed in a fantastic old Palacio that has been painstakingly modernised. In addition to the galleries, there is an open courtyard, a reading room for small meetings of 40 and an auditorium for 172 people. The cool hidden garden at the rear of the café is also a lovely setting for evading the Malaga heat. Finding Roman ruins under the foundations surely doesn't hurt either as an interest point, and it's amazingly easy to get to in the heart of the old town.

Yelp
This is one of the 'must sees' when you get to Malaga. Yes, there are various Picasso museums in Spain and even throughout the world, but Picasso was born in Malaga. The museum is clean, uncrowded, and next to the historic part of town in close walking distance to cafes, restaurants, shops, and more tourist destinations. Another reviewer mentioned the museum is not going to blow you away, but it's not meant to. It is a solid piece of artistic history, though and pleasant though modestly sized. Also, the gift shop is a great place to pick up souvenirs.

Qype User (missy…)

Yelp
The Picasso museum in Malaga houses a real rare mix of Picasso's work and is a must for any Picasso fan but also for a less committed art fan. The variety of work on display here means there really is something for everyone. Whilst it isn't the biggest collection, the building itself and its impeccable renovation make this venue worth visiting. Take a moment to savour the interior of this lovely structure and make sure you visit the basement where they have preserved all the secrets of the buidling .
