A hidden gem that truly lives up to the hype!
Pickles Eatery had been on my radar for months. Friends kept raving about it, so I finally decided it was time to see what all the fuss was about. What a find! A cozy, French-style bistro with a welcoming team and charming ambience that instantly makes you feel at home.
We started with the cheesy cauliflower (with a yumm-o blend of bitey cheese), one of their signature bone marrow dishes (we chose beef tartare), and the salmon tartare with avocado cream on crispy nori, which had just the right kick of wasabi and a great textural mix of cream-meets-crunch.
For mains, we opted for both specials: the cod in clam sauce and the striploin with Robert sauce. The cod was beautifully cooked, and the clam sauce didn't go to waste: we ended up mopping every drop with bread. The steak was spot on, but honestly, the sauces stole the show — bold, rich, and unforgettable.
We wrapped up with the chocolate lava cake. A small miscommunication meant no vanilla ice cream, but the staff were quick to improvise and saved the day with coconut paddle pops; a gesture that was both thoughtful and hilarious.
Each plate felt lovingly crafted, down to every fine detail, and I caught myself mentally bookmarking nearly every dish to order again. As for value: I’ve spent far more elsewhere for food that didn’t come close in terms of flavour, service, or atmosphere.
If you haven’t been to Pickles yet, go. You’ll leave full and happy,
