For any visiting birder the Picos de Europa is the best place in Spain to see Wallcreeper, Snowfinch, Alpine Accentor and Alpine Chough in the summer, plus other birds such as Rock Thrush, Water Pipit and maybe even a Lammergeier.
The Fuente Dé cable car takes you up to over 1,900 m in altitude in just a 4-minute ride. It gets busy in the summer, so don't leave it until too late in the morning, but once you get away from the entrance the crowds thin out and you are left with amazing scenery and a good chance at some of the best high-altitude birds that you get in Spain.
It's great for hiking, and in fact if you can't or don't hike it's a bit of a shame, because you'll be missing out on the best of the park. Down in the green valleys there are hay meadows, small villages and forested slopes, good for Black Woodpecker and Middle Spotted Woodpecker, and high passes with Citril Finches in the vicinity.
