BLUF: a truly 5-star dining experience in a beautiful setting
We went to Picteau restaurant for our final dinner in Italy, and are glad we did. it is located in the Lungarno hotel. If you are going to dine there, be sure to make a reservation and if the weather is nice request a patio table. The patio is small, but it's a great experience to be out there overlooking the river while you eat.
Service is both friendly and top-notch. Waiter seemed to know the right time to come to the table w/o being obtrusive, and kept the meal flowing all along.
The food was exquisite. One thing to know is that the starters are big enough for two. We didn't know that so we got two. The first was a caprese salad, which came with a chunk of buffalo mozzarella the size of a softball, creamy and delicious. It also had orange and red cherry tomatoes, which were sweet as they were but came in a delicious italian herb dressing. The other starter was beef carpaccio, which came on a bed of arugula and covered with parmesan slices. The meat was perfectly seasoned and tender, the best carpaccio I've ever had.
For the main entree we both got the same thing, burrata ravioli in zuchini and saffron cream. OMG, it was great. If it wasn't such a fine restaurant I would've licked my plate clean. For dessert we shared something called a Bongo, which was custard filled bigne with cocoa and espresso sprinkled on it, along with some ice cream. Really delicious
This place is not cheap, but if you are on a budget and planning one "big dinner" night, do it here.
