I’m not a massive pie person, in fact I really do not enjoy them, but I’d heard glowing reviews of their vegan pies and the This Isn’t Chicken & Bacon one sounded tempting.
First of all, the service was impeccable. The man who served us (he had lived in Bristol for 5 years, not sure of his name) was lovely and took the time to speak to us and actually engage in normal conversation. There was also a woman who came across when they were sold out of the parsnip fritters that came with my food, helping me find something else to go with my pie as I didn’t like the other option of peppers (I’m fussy!).
We were in and out quickly, which was fantastic as we had a coach to catch, and couldn’t recommend this enough (if you like pies).
On the pie itself: it was very filling in every sense of the word, my only notes are that I think the gravy and mash massively let it down – the mash was too dry, like it was missing vegan butter, and the gravy needed to be thicker to give that more homely feel.
Overall, don’t knock it until you try it and, if you love pies, you’ll love this.
