Pier French Fries

Michael H

Google
Everyone's been telling me about this place. The fries did not disappoint. Perfect from the first fry till the last. Friendly people at the window. Will definitely be back..

Dan L

Google
This place is awesome. I travel to Old Orchard Beach with my family every year and come here every time. The fries are incredible! I am definitely coming back next year.

Xavier R.

Google
Close to the pier and downtown areas, in a very good spot. The fries here are very good, price has remained consistent for the years I've went to OOB and quality hasn't decreased. With only 2-4 windows open on a given day the wait can be lengthy at times, but there are benches to sit at and wait. Be mindful of the salt, I believe they use sea salt here as a member of my party one year had a reaction to it.

Andy M.

Google
Fries were soggy and most of the cup was bits and pieces, like it was the leftover bits and the bottom. Very disappointing, it was my first visit in many years, I have always remembered these as my favorite. They must have new owner's that don't care about the product or customer satisfaction. The price was reasonable if the product was as expected. Not planning a return visit, there are other places that sell fries...

Jamieson J.

Google
I came on vacation from the Caribbean and visited OOB. The fries were the best fries I had eaten. The rest of my group came for the seafood. I’m not a seafood eater so found myself in line for 15 minutes to get these fries. But, worth the wait

Google
You can't stay in OOB and NOT get yourself some Pier Fries. It's just something you do. Pier Fries is in the heart of OOB so the atmosphere is alive and the epitome of beach side life. Crinkle cut fries that are crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. They're just perfect every time. They are cash only.

Charlie

Google
Been eating these since I was a kid in the 80s, these are not the same fries. In fact, peeking out back, I can see they are frozen fries, but they used to be fresh cut. Will no longer eat these soggy disgusting fries. People reviewing these fries likely are relying on memories they had, like I did, and not realizing they’re not the same or just letting the hype inform their opinion of these fries, probably some fake reviews here too. I hope someone someday opens another fry stand and advertises them as fresh cut and put these cheap owners out of business. Shame to ruin a good thing like that..

Fat T.

Google
Crinkle cut for the win. I never thought I would say this but they do have the best french fries ever. I would take these all day over McDonald's. I would suggest getting the box. It acts as a good appetizer or snack for a family of four. Or if you know you and your partner are hungry you could knock out a big box. CASH ONLY!!
google avatar

Yelp
I dream about this poutine on the daily. This was such a fun experience to get the famous fries and walk along the boardwalk. Everything was closing up for the season so I'll definitely have to come back in the summer!
google avatar

Marc L.

Yelp
Yesterday we had our 1st box of the season. I always ask for well done fries. This time there were lots of little pieces of potato not full length fries like they should be. Hopefully next time they'll be a consistent length. The fries were very dark telling me the oil needed to be changed. A true French fry should be crispy on the outside soft & pillowy on the inside.
google avatar

Tracy E.

Yelp
Recent visit before tourist season starts. Pier fries has been a OOB staple for years. The regulars know and get them piping hot . Always a short wait. Poutine also available but we got them plain and were not disappointed. Best place to get French fries hands down. So hot I always burn my tongue lol. Also have lots of ketchup, vinegar etc available as well. A little pricey 9.00 but worth every cent. Tasted just a good warming them in the air fryer later. Definite must for the French fry lover.
google avatar

Kathleen J.

Yelp
THESE ARE THE BEST FRENCH FRIES EVER!!!!! Have no idea what y'alls secret is, but ohhhhhhh these are so addicting.

CarrieAnn C.

Yelp
Incredibly good and fast. The price you pay is well worth it! They top the box for you! Great friendly service
google avatar

Kristen C.

Yelp
I was expecting to be let down because anything "touristy" in Maine is usually trash but, I gotta say, these fries were pretty darn good.

Meghan M.

Yelp
Every time I'm in town I go here. It's tradition! Been coming here my whole life. It's a staple of OOB :) Tip - they're cash only.
google avatar

A S.

Yelp
Made our first trip to OOB this past Labor Day - and hopefully it won't be our last! We decided right away after trying these fries that this would be a REGULAR part of any future trip here - they are fire! Get a box (maybe two), load them up with vinegar and salt, and wander the town. Doesn't get any better!
google avatar

Michael R.

Yelp
OK, I'm a bit of french fry snob, and these far exceeded my expectation. Is it too much to ask for a perfectly fresh crunchy fry? I don't think so, and yet so many places serve limp, soggy, oliy fries that have been sitting under a heat lamp. Well not here. These were perfection, and crinkle cuts are not even my favorite type of fries, but these were outstanding in every way. Texture, taste and fresh right out of the fryer. What more to say? Just get some if in Old Orchard Beach!

K D.

Yelp
Place has gone downhill a bit. Completely hit or miss on the fries. Some days they are inedible. And the fried dough minis are brutal - don't even taste like fried dough. Giving 3 stars only because of the memories of coming here over the years - but the current crew has no idea how to make the food we all expect from this beloved place.
google avatar

Scott M.

Yelp
Since some people were upset with what I said, I decided to try them again. So these are Pier Fries. The Good: The box deal can't be beat. They usually load up the box pretty high, maybe higher if you leave a tip. I just about dropped mine picking it up, wasn't expecting that much. They seem fresh. The oil seems like they use decent oil or at least change it often. Easy pricing with tax included in the prices. The neutral: Cash only. Don't blame them. Most credit vendors charge at least 3% and who goes to OOB without some cash. The Bad: Sorry but these are average at best. Are they the best at the beach in OOB? Probably. Other stands I am pretty sure use frozen fries. The consistency is WAY all over the place. And the real bad part is often half the box are little tiny pieces, like home fries size pieces. I like a fry, not dry pieces. I would say Three out of Five stars. I just feel there is a lot more nostalgia to these than flavor. But at OOB, the box deal can't be beat. Like I don't even know why they offer anything but the box. To be fair, I consider myself a bit of a potatoes fanatic. I have a French fry cutter. A potatoes ricer. I have a collection of dust seasonings I use. Unchecked, my family of four will go through a 10lb bag in week LOL

John G.

Yelp
I live in Saco so I've been eating Pier Fries for the last decade. Sometimes they're awesome. Picked up a box of them today and they clearly haven't changed the oil in a LONNNNNNG time. Really unfortunate. The flavor is just really off. AVOID until they've fixed this. Today is Sunday, June 15th (2025)

Bobbie Dee R.

Yelp
Quick, prompt, and what is expected of some great crinkle cut fries! Remember that it's cash only!
google avatar

Christina A.

Yelp
Every single time I get up to OOB this is the FiRST stop I make. Meal of the day this day was pier fries and roccos. Can't get better than this. Always perfect and cooked to perfection. A rite of passage on your walk to the pier.
google avatar

Roger T.

Yelp
I lived in OOB for years and legit HATE EVERYTHING about OOB except for pier fries. This place is immaculate. Always crispy crunchy. Get a nice box of salty crispy fries with vinegar and call it a day. Amazing !!
google avatar

Jennifer L.

Yelp
Been coming to Old Orchard for many years and always have to have Pier Fries. The best, especially with vinegar. Forgot to take a picture because I ate them all!
google avatar

Tim M.

Yelp
Can't go to OOB and not get. Pairs well with a slice of Bills Pizza. Make sure to add malt vinegar and ketchup.
google avatar

Todd R.

Yelp
Most of the food in OOB is garbage, but this place is an exception. The fries here are fantastic... super fresh and straight out of the fryer (no stale heat lamp junk here). They have a slight crisp on the outside and fluffy and soft in the middle. My family devours a whole box while arguing whether ketchup or vinegar is the best condiment.
google avatar

Jonathan G.

Yelp
The best french fries you will ever have! Perfectly crispy on the outside and soft in the middle. Plus you get a lot of small crunchy pieces too that are absolutely delicious. The box size for the price is a great deal! They also let you salt the fries so you can decide how much salt you want. They also offer lots of favorings, salt and vinegar, cheese dip, poutine, or just plan ketchup. Service is always friendly and very quick! This is a must stop for anyone heading to OOB!
google avatar

Stacy K.

Yelp
Who does not like OOB Pier Fries? You can get Poutine or vinegar and ketchup. The sizes are a cup or the box. It is an old fashioned counter concession before the pier but over the rail tracks. The line in summer shows how much folks want to taste that nostalgia of the crinkle fry. Not for the dieting or high blood pressure because of salt.
google avatar

Mary Ann C.

Yelp
Pier French Fries is a nostalgic spot for crinkle cut french fries. I enjoyed snacking on their plain salted fries by the fountain. They are good but nothing great. The box is $7.00 and is enough for two people to have plenty. I wouldn't recommend the chili fries, it tends to overpower and make a mess of the fries. The nacho cheese sauce was not even warm and it was boring. If I were here again, I'd get the small cup and save my appetite for a real meal. All they do is french frues. It was fun to do things near the pier but the area is outdated and touristy.
google avatar

Hristos K.

Yelp
Not much to report. They are just French fries and the only thing that makes them worth while is the cheese sauce. We got them as a side while taste testing 3 different pizza places nearby. They are ok fries. Not bad but also nothing exceptional to say you must try them when In the area. If your are in the mood for fries get them (and the line is short). That's all.

Tiffany A.

Yelp
Great service and super friendly too. The fries were perfectly crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. They let you add your own salt so you get the perfect amount. It's a little take out window, so there's no seating, but perfect food to munch on while you walk the Main Street.
google avatar

Olivia W.

Yelp
Best fries anywhere near the pier. End of story. The box is more than enough for 2 or 3 people and the sides of cheese and gravy are huge - you definitely get your money's worth here. Grab some fries, hang out by the fountain and arcade, I highly recommend Pier Fries :)
google avatar

Monica L.

Yelp
GREAT fries. Eat them with white vinegar and salt!! They are hot and nicely potato-y -- crisp on the outside and tender inside. French fry perfection.
google avatar

Jennifer V.

Yelp
I don't know what it is about this place but I don't like it. The fries have a taste about them that's not good, like they've been fried in the same oil for days. I don't know if it's normally like that or maybe it was just this time but either way not impressed
google avatar

Fat T.

Yelp
Gramps wasn't lying when he said this was the best French Fry place he's been to in his lifetime. Not gonna lie I thought crinkle cut would be horrible. They were way better than McDonald's!
google avatar

Crystal C.

Yelp
If you're going to get fries while visiting Old Orchard Beach, you need to know that Pier Fries are hands-down the local favorite. There's a cup portion (for a little kid) for $2, a larger cup for $4, or a box for $7. The onion rings aren't the cheap breadcrumb type that you can get at the grocery store. They're the delicious beer-battered kind. There are a hundred places to grab fries around the strip. Don't waste your time. Go straight here. Don't let the line intimidate you. It moves fast and solidifies that everyone wants these fries. My personal favorite way to eat them is with salt and vinegar.
google avatar

Lauren P.

Yelp
Best French fries!! Always served hot! I recommend getting a side of cheese sauce to dip in!
google avatar

Lance C.

Yelp
The fries to get when in OOB. They are super crispy. Do to the (COVID world) the ketchup, salt an vinegar are not out like usually, and I missed out on my last trip . If your in OOB an looking for fries, look no further.
google avatar

Sandra L.

Yelp
Without a doubt, the best fries around. Crispy on the outside, soft on the inside. Then you add the salt and pepper and vinegar, and you've got yourself a meal! I'm always sad when they close for the winter. They recently took over Bills Pizza next door and it's great, too. So get one slice of pizza and a box of fries, and you'll be a happy camper!!
google avatar

Megan J.

Yelp
I'd have to say that anyone who is raving about these French fries might have had their taste buds clouded with a bit of nostalgia. This place is a staple in Old Orchard Beach. The fries will be made fresh and they'll be hot af. They're your basic crinkle fries. Add salt and there you go. I'd say maybe I'm spoiled with Thrashers and the like, but these are average and if you don't add salt and vinegar to these, then you'll be disappointed.
google avatar

Kelly K.

Yelp
Still the absolute best fries around. This place is cash only and a box is $8, so worth it. Good with just salt or a little vinegar. A must when at old orchard beach! Bills pizza is right next to it so pick up a slice too!
google avatar

Robert L.

Yelp
Been going here for twenty years. Always always great fries almost a traditional thing
google avatar

Alicia E.

Yelp
I love their fries i think they're so delicious and I don't think they're super badly priced either. I love that you can get gravy with them. I think they are definitely a staple in old orchard Beach
google avatar

Cherry L.

Yelp
I rarely stop by stores that look like tourist traps because, well, we've all fallen for a few too many in our lifetimes. However, my family and I went to go get lobster rolls next door and it's just not the same without french fries. These fries are some of the best fries I've ever had. Perfectly crunchy and warm and somehow taste really fresh. I'm even more impressed by the hand cut nature of the fries. A box was enough for the five of us to have as a side to our meal and service was super quick. Really wish we added vinegar, so don't forget! Unfortunately, I am not from the area, so I can't get these all the time, but I will be dreaming about these for a while! Getting to Old Orchard Beach at 11am has its perks of less tourists and easy parking. We had metered parking two blocks away for $2/hour.

Karl J.

Yelp
Don't drink the koolaid...or bother with high priced fries. I live in O.O.B. Love the area and wonder about town almost every day. But rarely eat local offerings due to tourist pricing. Until one day I was in front of the Pier Fries place watching throngs of tourists buying fries. I asked some of the folks about their tiny cups of food and were they satisfied. All of them went on and on how good they were, so I gave in and paid the $5 for the 2 mouth fulls of potatoes. The fries weren't horrible, but they weren't that great either. Just mediocre every day fries. So I walked over to the window and asked the teenager, who was in the process of pouring frozen fries into a deep fry basket. I said, where do your fries come from? He looked at the generic white plastic bag and replied, don't know. The boss orders them in. I think their from Nebraska...... need I say more?
google avatar

Ron S.

Yelp
This is a family run business is in Maine and the best french fries I've had from Maine .so if you are in Maine you can get a box of fries for a great price I recommend you check it out.
google avatar

David L.

Yelp
The fries have always been great. Fresh and hot. Add plenty of vinegar and salt for an unforgettable Old Orchard Beach experience. They also have very good fried dough. I've been going here for at least a half-century, and I've never been disappointed.
google avatar

Sara K.

Yelp
Best beach fries along the Atlantic! You absolutely have to ensure you stop to get some fries. The fries are fresh potatoes and cooked to Golden buttery color, are lightly crisp, yet soft, hearty, and evenly crinkled. They serve enough that they are always frying more so you are going to get them fresh and hot. Multiple sizes are offered, yet in my opinion, the one true respectable option is THE BOX. The fries come un salted but to the side of the window there are salt shakers and vinegar bottles to add, if you choose, but I would say don't because the fries alone are flavorful! I do, however, dip in ketchup which is in a pump on the side that you can put in the plastic condiment dip cups which I appreciate because I personally am NOT a fan of putting ketchup directly on my fries and then having to eat them. You can also order other fried foods at the window including hot dogs and mozzarella sticks. Once you order you can go walk to the sitting area by the pier and eat your pier fries with views of the ocean and pier! Lastly, the box packaging is perfect- simple yet vintage. Overall, these fries are delicious and perfect and add character to OOB!
google avatar

Danny M.

Yelp
You can't come to OOB without getting Pier Fries! Family-run business for decades that has just what you need after a long day on the beach. Heaping portions and a timeless, quality product. I always opt for salt and vinegar on my fries like the old days. If you visit OOB and don't get Pier Fries, you didn't really come to OOB!
google avatar

Lawrence M.

Yelp
The best fries around, we have been going here for years and they always do a great job. Getting good regular aka not seasoned fries is becoming harder by the year. Most places serve heavily seasoned cheap fries, not here. Always worth a trip.
google avatar

Gregory P.

Yelp
Amazing french fries. As good as you want and need them to be. Take note this is NOT actually on the pier (there's a different place on the pier that tries to trick you into believing that's the famous spot.
google avatar

Tracy B.

Yelp
OMG I love French Fries, WHO DOESNT... And these ones were perfect, somewhat crispy but slightly mushy & almost undercooked - MY ABSOLUTE FAVE WAY... I got a cheese on the side & they gave me enough for a family of 17... I almost want to drive back just for fries... ( I live in Boston) Have been stopping in for years & will continue to stop in whenever up at the beach.. Try the vinegar there is nothing like it!
google avatar

Brian K.

Yelp
If all the fries were cooked nice and crispy like some were, they'd be great. The others were not undercooked, just not really done how I like them. I guess maybe I let myself get too hyped up about this place and so was a bit left down by it.
google avatar

Sabrina A.

Yelp
At first I didn't know I would like pier French fries and I am so glad I went!! I think fries here are very good affordable prices but keep in mind is cash only :)
google avatar

Kim W.

Yelp
Great fries! The box is huge amount of overflowing fries and so frsh and yummy!! Only recommendation is to have mayo available with the condiments. Will definitely be back!
google avatar

Margaret M.

Yelp
If there were a French Frie heaven this would be it. Their fries ooze deliciousness, especially topped with salt & vinegar...I am literally drooling as I write this. In addition to the fries they also whip up a mean fried dough, slather it with butter and powdered sugar and serve it up on a medium pizza sized plate. It's a meal in itself and worth every single calorie going down. If you come to OOB you must stop here, if you don't you are insane and totally missing out on a staple East Coast snack.
google avatar

Nick A.

Yelp
Ordered a box of French fries. Fresh. Ultra hot. Right out of the fryer. Crinkle cut. It was $7, which is a little pricey for fries, but I realize I'm at a touristy area. Added the white vinegar and salt and gave them a shake...just as remembered! Great! Recommended!
