The Essential Guide to New River Gorge National Park

"After a long day of hiking or rafting, I like grabbing a slice and a cold beer here—the pizzas are made with house-made, hand-tossed dough and standout options include the Cuban Pork and Black Bean, while the Margherita is a reliable classic." - Lydia Mansel Lydia Mansel Lydia Mansel is a writer with more than eight years of experience editing and writing for both brands and online publications—with a particular focus on travel, fashion, and lifestyle. Google
Pizza was great. Chicken, grilled onion and goat cheese. A large 16" pie. 2 of us could only eat half of the pizza. Took home the rest and warmed it in the air fryer. Great!

Bianca S.

Google
Had the caprese sandwich for lunch. Really good for something with no meat! Would come again to try other items, my sandwich was great and the bartender was attentive and friendly.

Google
Pizza was very good. Staff is very friendly. Love trying new places. We will be visiting again soon! Edit: Such consistency in food, quality and service. So much fun and tons of atmosphere.

Google
Always excellent pizzas and wings. We love this place and service is always friendly.

Holy smokes is this place good. Walked in for the first time with our four year old. They had a large beer and wine selection and the menu was beautifully simple yet expansive for all taste. My partner and I split a house salad and a 10" Margherita pizza. It was outstanding. The whole experience was great. Kids menu was reasonably priced. We will definitely be back.

Google
Visited this place almost a year later. Love the food and selection of beers n wine.love their potato skin pie. Jus so yummy, and they have good salads as well. The server was good and loved the casual atmosphere. Will definitely go back. It's my comfort food kinda place.

Google
Pizza dough is amazing, great taste. The sweet and spicy beers were awesome. You are allowed to taste before buying. Time of service was appropriate for pizzas made tomorder. Service was awesome. Recommended based on quality and worth.

We are in town for a volleyball tournament and decided to try the pizza here. It was SO good!! Also, our waitress was amazing!! She was so sweet and talked to our girls about volleyball and wished them good luck the rest of the weekend!! We will definitely come back every time we are in town!

Yelp
Having never tried here, I was pleasantly impressed with my experience here! Our waitress was helpful, friendly and attentive. Quiet casual upscale venue. We got the Peppadew Pie,which had Goat cheese,Peppadew Peppers, Red Onion,Bacon,Grated Parmesan, Honey, and Fresh Herbs. It was delicious! I'll be returning if I'm in the area.

Yelp
Our first time at Pies and Pints. A coworker recommended we go here. When we first arrived they weren't super busy. About the time we left it was packed. I was afraid the covered patio area was going to be cold but the heaters did a really good job. We started with garlic bread with cheese and Caesar Salads. Both really good. The Caesar dressing had lots of flavor and the pizza sauce with the bread was great. We got a pizza with pepperoni and sausage and an Italian Hero to share. The pizza was great. A bit too much crust to topping ratio but we got some dipping sauce for the extra sauce. The sandwich was alright not great. I think pizza sauce would be a great addition to the sandwich. Husband got a the Chicago Brownie Peanut Butter dessert. Ad if this review he hasn't tried it yet. We would definitely be back for the pizza. Our service couldn't have been better. Our server was great.

Yelp
What a selection of pints! My wife has a short list of types of beers she likes. This place has a lot of choices for her! The pizza is very good as well. We had a large half cheese/ half pepperoni and banana peppers along with a small chicken Gouda pie. We added a Caesar salad too. It was all tasty. Service was great. Our server was spot on all night. He made us feel like we made the right choice on where to eat after a family movie. We sat outside on a day that was in the 20s. I was skeptical, my family said it would be okay. They were correct. The outside area doesn't feel like outside at all in the winter weather. The temporary walls go to the ground and don't let wind in at all. The heaters out there make it feel nice and cozy. No coat required. We had a good time and we will be back.

Yelp
Popped in, sat inside (so many were requested outside but it is too hot for me!) Hubs and I split a plain 'ol large pepperoni pizza, preceded with garlic bread. I also had the small (8oz) of their Fat Head + worth. Pints White Elephant blonde ale, which i love that they serve that small size since I like a little but not what would be a whole bottle's worth. Our server was attentive. Goos was a #yum. #ReviewsByRL

Yelp
Stopped in for lunch we got the wings to share and each a slice. The wings have a very Smokey taste but a little too charred for me. The slices were the usual by the slice pizza. Not a bad price for a lunch.
google avatar

Victor F.

Yelp
Loved the service and a friendly atmosphere. The availability of the gluten free crust is much appreciated and it is definitely in a top 5 places for pizza in Carmel.
google avatar

Jon W.

Yelp
Great spot to grab a slice of pizza and a pint of beer with friends or family. We sat in the patio area over the weekend. We ordered Pine and Swine without red onions. We ordered the large knowing we would have leftovers. I had a couple Hazy IPA's. Service was great as usual. Would recommend if you are looking for something casual.

Yelp
Great pizza place! I am very familiar with the area so I already knew the parking situation. Limited parking in the front on the street if none there just park in the back or the you'll use the roundabouts to keep driving back and forth and hope your timing works out. Only rough part is if it rains you will have to walk in it. I side seating is good. They have a bar side and a restaurant side. I didn't like sitting so close to the kitchen especially since they weren't busy and there were a lot of empty tables that would've made it more enjoyable. Overall the food and service was good which is why they got 5 stars. I won't hold it against the staff because I could've asked to move. Excellent beer selection both bottled and draft.
google avatar

Chris F.

Yelp
Pizza was just not it...... crust was thin and mushy and the marinara was on top of these cheese and drizzled all over like it was put on after the pizza was cooked. Not a fan.... Only gave this 2 stars because the wings were good

Brian H.

Yelp
Hands down my family's favorite place for pizza. Incredibly reasonable prices and wonderful beer selection with several pints under $5.
google avatar

Yelp
My friend and I paid a visit to Pies and Pints to sample their beers and pizzas. It was right before dinner time the venue wasn't busy - score! First up, we selected a flight of draft beers to share to help us change gears from work. It turns out that they've got a really wide selection of drafts available, so we had trouble narrowing it down to four; with a little input from our very helpful server, we pulled the deed off and then proceeded to order dinner. You can order either pies or slices, so we got a pie to share and a slice each. When the pizza arrived, we dug in; The crust was crispy with a decent amount of chew, and the sauce was pretty good; it had a nice blend of both spicy and sweet flavor, and it wasn't too heavy on the tomatoes. For me, the slice turned out to be a much better choice than the street corn pie we picked. Not that there was anything wrong with the street corn pizza, it's just that the flavor profile of the toppings didn't do it for me. That said, the quality of the crust, the sauce, and the toppings was more than satisfactory, and the beers were great - I look forward to a return visit to try something different!

Yelp
Great place to get pizza! They have unique flavors like Chicken Gouda, which I highly recommend. We got a large pizza and did half Chicken Gouda and half Classic Pie. It is expensive for pizza ($29), but the large size is enough for a family of 4-6. We also tried the char-grilled chicken wings. They were good, but again, kind of expensive ($14) for 8 wings. The creamy Gorgonzola sauce it came with was amazing and complemented the chicken wings well. I recommend putting some of the sauce on your pizza! We went on a Friday night, but even though they were busy, we were seated in a reasonable amount of time. The service was great and our waitress was very nice. Even though they do serve alcohol, it's a family friendly restaurant. I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Was in town for a baseball tournament & needed to find a place that would accommodate 30 families and this placed it pulled it off!! So for starters that was awesome; they then separated every bill (correctly) by player number. (Must have been there, done that, before!) Then came the beers and the food. Awesome! Great craft selection of beers, ciders, sours, you name it...the pizza lived up to the hype as well. Had the Classic pie...great crunch, wood fired taste and perfect amount of toppings/sauce. A bit impressed actually. Cool vibe, great bar for before dinner drinks...go check this place out and if ever in town with a large group, give them call, these folks know exactly how to pull this off!!! Thanks P&P's!!!

Yelp
Love this pizza place. The service is consistently good. The vibe is industrial casual and perfect for families of all ages. The indoor/ outdoor space is comfortable. I am sure timing can make the difference for patrons when considering ambiance. Food. That's why we are here. No complaints about the wings. Seriously good. Salads: heck yeah. Don't pass on them. They are generous and well done. Pizza. Hmmmm. Pies and Pints.... This is what it's all about. There are standard options as well as some delicious (and maybe strange) opportunities on the menu. Or go to your standard fave. Pies and Pints delivers. On to Pints. The list is generous.

Yelp
Delicious margarita pizza and they allow dogs on the porch area, will definitely go back!

Yelp
Went back after a year to celebrate a birthday and the ambience was excellent with lovely weather. Hannah took real good care of us and we had a fabulous time. The Sriracha Shrimp pie was the show stealer with the garlic aioli dressing drizzled on top. The spinach salad was delicious with red onions and blue cheese, a combo that I personally tried for the first time. Service took reasonable time giving us a while to talk. The outdoor patio is covered with open space at the bottom giving my pet full view of the outside ongoings yet was enough privacy for all of us. Just a good day and great dinner!

Yelp
Pies & Pints is so good. Their specialty pies are incredible. We got 2 appetizers. The rosemary and garlic flatbread and the char grilled chicken wings. The chicken wings were MY FAVE. They were so so good. I am usually not a bone in wing person but I would 100% get these again. The goat cheese that comes with the flatbread is the MVP. It was delicious. We got a large pie with half Nashville hot chicken and the other half with Thai. Kinda out there for pizza options but both were so good. I love pickles so the Nashville hot chicken was my favorite. Got a slice of cheesecake also and loved it. Seriously one of the best cheesecakes I have ever had and it was so so good. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Great lunch stop when in Clay Terrace. Great selection of beers on tap as well as ciders. Pizzas are very unique; nearly every one makes you say, "I would never thought to pair these flavors"! Pizza we ordered (Street Corn) was delicious; the 10" easily served the two of us. Service was good and ambience was casual, with plenty of room between tables. Looking forward to coming back!

R W.

Yelp
We have drove by here many times. Decided to stop in tonight and try it. Honestly, from all the pizza restaurants that we've been to, this one hits the bottom of the list. I don't know what people are talking about. We also had the wings, and wife and I split a Cesar salad. The pizza tastes so nasty that none of us grabbed a second slice. The Cesar salad hardly had dressing. The crust on the pizza tasted like it was frozen crust. The hot wings were nothing to write home about. The waitress was far and few between coming to the table. We Won't be back. Seriously hope you find something good here if you come try it. As far as the looks of a restaurant, it's not bad looking. Other than that, they don't have much going for this place.

Yelp
What year was my son this evening for pizza and a couple beers the service was good and the pizza and Colbert was good. Just a waitress kept coming back and asking us multiple multiple times our estimation was a bit much You would certainly go here again, but one large and one small pizza with salads and two drinks our bill was almost $89.00!!
google avatar

Ice C.

Yelp
I got an ice shaped like Texas it's also very fun to eat as well very good pizza as well
google avatar

Eliana R.

Yelp
Our waitress was very available and checked on us often. The atmosphere wasn't too loud- we came around 5:30 so might be because of time we came. There was music playing in the background but not too loud to where you couldn't have a conversation. The pizza was DELICIOUS! I don't normally eat crust but theirs is so good. The jalapeños were not overpowering and trust me pineapple haters- it works on this pizza. Will definitely be returning here for another date night or bring a friend!
google avatar

Julia G.

Yelp
I'm a frequent flyer of this place as they have earned my love. Service is usually a notch above for the price point and this New York gal loves their pizza crust. Last nightI had their heirloom pizza nicely embellished with pesto - excellent!
google avatar

Julie M.

Yelp
Stopped in to give this place a try while we were on the north side. The place has a nice vibe. It was kinda warm and humid inside. I'm always freezing, and I ended up breaking a sweat. Maybe their AC needed service or something. We ordered the wings, pizza skins, and antipasto salad to split. The picture of the salad by the owner on Google is what drew me in and made my decision to eat there tonight. Sadly, the salad that came out did not look like the picture at all. The one in Google had more iceberg or romaine lettuce and the one that came out tonight was a spring mix which I absolutely cannot stand. I did ask for some romaine lettuce and the server brought me a small plate out. I was hoping she just took the salad back to be remade, but we made due. The wings needed some kind of sauce or something. Not sure what. My husband ate one and we took the rest home. We tried one piece of the pizza skins and weren't too impressed with those either. They needed more mashed potatoes on them. I ended up dropping them off for my son to eat. We were kind of surprised the waitress didn't ask how the food was even when we asked for boxes after eating one small slice of the pizza skins, about a quarter of the salad and one chicken wing between both of us. Sadly, this won't be on our list to return. The overall experience was "meh."

Randol S.

Yelp
Food and service were outstanding. The rustic feel is just what a pizza restaurant needs.
google avatar

Yelp
I know this place has been there for a while, but I didn't have for the first time until last weekend. In the past week, I've eaten from here 4 times. They have the best and most plentiful Greek salad I've ever had. Additionally, the best pizza, particularly the crust, I've had around Carmel. I'm not sure why I haven't been sooner, but I'm going to be making up for it. By far the best pizza place in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
If you are looking for unique pizza's then I would have to recommend Pies and Pints. I went on a Saturday night with a friend and her kids and we were seated right away. Our waitress was very attentive. There was also an extensive drink menu. Both food and drinks provided a detailed explanation of the flavors that allowed us the have a better understanding of our order. Everyone ordered something different so we could try a different flavor. We ordered the Mushroom garlic feta, Sriracha Shrimp and steak and mushroom. I would order each one again. The most surprising was the Sriracha Shrimp! It was the perfect amount of spice and sweetness from the pineapple. I would never have thought to put this combo together, but it was amazing. Pies and Pints is also able to accommodate large parties! There is an area towards the front with larger picnic like tables. I had been here once with a large party and was so impressed with the staff that did a great job accommodating us. I would recommend calling ahead though for a larger group
google avatar

Emily G.

Yelp
The flatbread starter was the best. The garlicky bottom of each triangle smeared with the cheese was phenomenal!!!! The pizza was also good. But the flatbread was crispy all around. We sat at the bar and our waitress was so kind when we had to leave quickly. She boxed our pizza up and gave me a to-go tea and was just awesome the way the pizza cooks is amazing. You can watch it cook through the glass. Neat
google avatar

Blaine W.

Yelp
I'm a big pizza guy and in my opinion, Pies and Pints and Bazbeaux are the best in town. I first had Pies and Pints in WV so I was really glad to have one close to my house in Carmel. They have great service and load the toppings on their pizzas. We enjoyed the Chipotle Chicken and Classic. There's nice outdoor seating with a good view of the Clay Terrace court.
google avatar

Lisa C.

Yelp
I went here with my mom on a Friday night to grab pizza, and it was a beautiful day, so we wanted to go somewhere we could take our little furry friend too. We called ahead to make sure the outdoor dining was dog friendly, and it was, so out we went! We got the Margherita pizza which was delicious and the service was nice and fast despite it being a busy time. Would highly recommend this dog friendly place! The outdoor dining is covered so if it rains, you'll be fine

Tom H.

Yelp
Outstanding food, service and cost!!! Highly recommended. Great atmosphere, can't wait to go back.
google avatar

Brooke B.

Yelp
Very good pizza!! We had the street corn pizza and it was so good. We have been here a few times and never had a bad experience. Beer is good as well. Great location for kids!

Hillary R.

Yelp
The absolute worst gluten free pizza I've ever tasted. It honestly tasted like a frozen pizza. Half of the toppings offered are considered "premium" and come with an up charge... including many basics like pineapple and mushrooms. Insanely overpriced garbage.
google avatar

Chris W.

Yelp
Best pizza in Indy. Always cooked perfect. Nice crisp on the bottom, ingredients always taste fresh. Crazy that more people don't know about it but not many around. Good vibe inside as well.

Kevin F.

Yelp
Char-grilled wing pie was fire! Love coming here. Perfect location. Jaylynn gave amazing service!
google avatar

Melissa T.

Yelp
I would definitely go back again!!! The atmosphere was amazing with exposed brick walls! The service was excellent, I truly haven't had such great service in awhile! The beer selection was amazing and the amount of beer on tap was insane!! For the food the pizza was excellent! We did also have the salsa and chips... I will say not may favorite as the salsa was heavy on garlic and I love garlic but it was not the worse salsa that I've ever had and of course this is a pizza place (just saying) . Pizza? Wow excellent!!! We ordered the 16" half and half, half cheese and half black bean. Both were excellent!!! Restrooms were clean and modern, plenty of parking!
google avatar

Shruti P.

Yelp
Great place for beers and pizza. What else do you need to chill and chat with friends on a warm summer day or rainy weekends. Really like their collection of beer. Quite a lot to pick from. Wish they had a location around downtown Indy also.
google avatar

Chris W.

Yelp
I've been eating pies and pints across the country and have always raced about it. This is the first time I've eaten from the Carmel location. To say it was an disappointing is an understatement. I ordered a delivery of small hot momma, a small gluten free with bacon, pepperoni, and bacon along with an order of wings. They arrived to the house cold. When I asked what my mom thought, she said "it tastes like I am eating leftover pizza". I won't be giving my patronage to this location again.

Veronica R.

Yelp
I had dinner there last night and ordered two small pizzas; the Thai and the Hot Mama and a caesar salad. I was not happy with the Hot Mama. It had no flavor, too much tomato sauce and it was too salty. At first I thought it was the Parmesan cheese I sprinkled on it. I took the Thai Pizza home for my son and he said his was too salty as well and wasn't a good pizza. He only had one slice and couldn't eat anymore. So it must have been the pizza dough. I have been to this place a few times and enjoyed the food. I dont know what has changed there but it was a disappointment this time around.
google avatar

B P.

Yelp
For a pizza place , they have the best veggie sandwich.... The garden grinder. Each time I order it, I swear it gets better . Their pizza and salads are delicious too! I frequently eat here and have never been disappointed!

Michael T.

Yelp
Phenomenal!!!! Pizza was legit! First, provolone is soooo underrated on pizza. Sooo good! Their sauce was the star of the show. On the seeet side but in the absolute best way. Seriously ... some of the best pizza I've had (and I'm a fat guy from Chicago).
google avatar

Betsy M.

Yelp
Took a well needed break from Christmas shopping to enjoy pizza and a beer and watch some football. Unfortunately my team lost but I had great beer and pizza at Pies and Pints in Clay Terrace. They have an extensive selection of beers on tap from all of the local breweries and have a nice single-serve pizza as well. The menu also has some yummy sandwiches and salads that I didn't get a chance to test! The bar staff were very attentive, and I love the fact that they were all friends! It makes for a jovial setting.! I will definitely be back.

Yelp
First time eating in at pies and pints and didn't have the highest expectations to begin. We started out with the wings and antipasto salad. The wings had a nice char to them and were very tasty, wish they came with some sauce as they need just a little something else. The antipasto salad was an amazing choice though. Very well put together including plenty of meats and cheeses, definitely a must get for anyone coming here. We tried three different pizza toppings. The margarita was the first and absolute best option, very garlic and basil heavy which I love. We also got the hot mama which was our second favorite. It was a nice spicier pie with sweet peppers to cut the fat of the hot capicola topping. Last we got the chicken Gouda.. or chipotle chicken I can't remember. It was good just a little too much sauce on the pizza and generally I am not the biggest fan of chicken on my pizza. However, if you gave this to me hungry and a couple beers in. I would have no complaints. Overall great pizza, crispy crust. Will come back for the antipasto salad and margarita pizza!
google avatar

Isabelle M.

Yelp
I love pies and pints, but have never reviewed this location. I've had a large group so it was fun to be able to order a few of the different 10 inch pizzas so everyone could try their delicious combinations. We tried the chicken Gouda pizza which is amazing, I get that one every time we go to pies and pints. We tried the pine and swine, which might have been my favorite this time (yes, I do enjoy pineapple in pizza). Then we had the Cuban Pork pizza. It was really good, but it's one a probably wouldn't order again. But the combination of jalapeño and pineapple was really interesting. Then we got the classic pepperoni which was a hit. We also tried their garlic bread, which was good but nothing that stood out to me. Overall great pizzas and atmosphere!
google avatar

Katie L.

Yelp
Our delivery order tonight was absolutely delicious! We got a few pizzas, starters, and a dessert for the family to sample- everything was spectacular! The pies are creative and perfectly cooked. Well worth the upcharge. The small salad was big enough for 3 to have a decent sized side. My only qualm was that we did not receive our wings which may have been a DoorDash issue. It may be no fault of the restaurant whatsoever, but their choice to partner exclusively with a service that has a reputation for such issues is not excellent. Plus, DoorDash gives a credit instead of refund which means now I have to use their subpar service again. It's a trap! Overall, would go again happily and probably choose to carryout myself.
google avatar

Ahna L.

Yelp
Saw this place and knew that it was a place to try. I have a gluten allergy and know that whenever I eat out there is always a risk of cross contamination. The pizza that was gluten free was not very tasty. I have had good gluten-free and this was not it. It was kinda pricy for the piazza that was not good. Would not recommend for anyone that is gluten free.
google avatar

Katie U.

Yelp
One of the best pizzas in Indy! My husband has an obsession with pizza so he is always wanting to go somewhere new. You get what you see with the name - pizza and beer. They have a very expansive beer list with some screens at the bar with everything they are currently tapping with what's coming up. Since it's a franchise they have beers from all over the country but try to focus on local breweries. We ordered the Hot mama which is spicy ham, mozzarella and red peppers. We decided to add pepperoni to make it more of a meat lovers. It was a really solid order. The mozzarella had sweeter flavors with the spicy and savory capicola. It was a perfect flavor combo. They also have a decent amount of non-pizza foods like salad and sandwiches. The people next to us got nachos that smelled amazing. Overall I loved the food and beer however the service was a bit crazy. The waiters and waitresses seemed stressed with how busy it was which always stresses our customers too. That is the main reason I'm giving this 4 stars instead of 5.

Mary M.

Yelp
How about getting my order out to me when promised and not an hour late and not stone cold. What a rip off. You could improve that way.
google avatar

Donald B.

Yelp
This was our second visit ... But probably our last. The food is so-so. And they appeared to be severely understaffed tonight, so the service suffered. Some guests who has apparently gotten tired of waiting for a table started bussing tables. (Good on them for helping out, but it's a testament to how understated this place was tonight.) After we were seated, we ordered. The wait for food wasn't crazy long, but it wasn't fast either. I'd ordered a drink to go along with the pizza. It didn't come out until we were almost done with the dinner. I told them that at that point I wasn't interested in the drink. We were almost done for dinner. They took it back and the drink didn't appear on the bill. (Thanks!) I was really hoping that our first experience here was a fluke and that it was a solid place. We left disappointed ... again.
